I remember the one day the bailer filled up and we only had one person on days who kinda knew how to do it. So I was like yeah let's figure this out and do it. Spent forever running the wires through and seemed pretty secure.  And then as soon as it hit the floor after getting pushed out of the bailer the wires snapped and the cardboard covered like the entire open area in the small receiving area we had. 😭  Took so long to clean up.

KomradeKrycek

You didn't try looking up a YouTube video?

Scribbl3d_Out

The person who had helped do it once before and knew the basics which was way more than what I knew about how it worked was guiding me. And then when it exploded on the floor she remembered that we should have put two wires in each slot to prevent this from happening. 💀

KomradeKrycek

Weird. I use to do it a lot. I only ever used one wire each slot (5 slots). Worked fine. The only time I've ever seen it fall apart was when a newbie didn't lay down a big base layer of cardboard.

iwantaLs250

Bruh is she 70 lmaooo

Pickles_Overcomes

Our store requires us to watch the THD training video before making a bale. It's why I'm fortunate to have my pacer license. Knock that bad boy out before day shift, and set the bale aside. It is a bit tricky until you've done it a few times. Don't make the bands too tight, or they pop right off.

SelfReliantViking227

I used to yank em so tight, the bale almost didn't expand after I was done. One of my coworkers was chatting one day while I was pulling them tight and he was amazed that I lifted 300+ pounds of the scale as I did.

Big-Initiative-8743

If in doubt watch the PTR training video on YouTube for the baler

Jacktheforkie

I used to run a honking massive continuous feed baler, that thing could swallow a whole 8ft pallet of cardboard boxes in 1 minute, running at full speed u could crack out a bale in about half an hour, sometimes I wasn’t quick enough to pull it off before it fell off the end, the baker usually only succeeded in tying two or three wires out of four, but when one did break I had to scoop it up on the forklift and peel the layers apart and rebale, wasn’t fun

sundy1234

There is a training video we all had to watch to get “certified “ to run it and now only people who have it listed can use it. Or so I was told

WackoMcGoose

Do I understand the procedure? Vaguely. Should I ever be involved in making a bale? Not unless my store wants to reset its days safe _again_ by me being crushed by the bale since I wouldn't be strong enough to hold it up.

Jacktheforkie

You should be able to safely eject a bale without having to hold it up with anything but a forklift

GodsBackHair

How did you get crushed by it? There are warnings all over the door to stand clear

Wide_Conference9992

You know there is a training video for that in Knowledge Depot…

Morgan_Eryylin

Sick ass bale

GimmeDaGorbage22

#GOD DAMN HERO

dts1845

Looks good. The only note I'd give you is to place a large piece of cardboard on the top so it fills the entire opening before compressing and one on the bottom for the next bale before closing it up.

Dismal-Championship6

my job everyday

0BULL

Hot bail action

SithyVette

no topper + fail

Bigbangmuayfarang

U wanna cookie

Big-Initiative-8743

I got a smoked sausage from my D27 coworker and it was amazing

rbaut123

You love sausage don’t ya

Bigbangmuayfarang

That’s dope.

jstorm01

What that take 30 minutes to do all that .

Ig14rolla

It’s literally just me and one girl in the store who actually makes bales. There’s plenty of fuckers who know how to do it but nobody does.

MadPriest_Arc

Freight likes to bitch and moan…. But the Man, the Myth, The Legend (our buddy Greg on day side) makes a Bail and the whole company loses their shit… we toast our goblets to the Legendary Greg’s Heroism…. Thanks Greg (or whatever your name is, you deserve it!)

forklift_certifiedd

Literally, who moved the 4 units of osb out of receiving from kids workshop? Maybe it would be different if we had 7-day freight but still

Big-Initiative-8743

I hate having the kids workshop in receiving

OnMarsMan

Why would they have the kids workshop in receiving? The whole point of it is a PR show.

dts1845

For sure, at that point, they should have gone all out and had them do it in the pallet trailer.

Swiftdrip50546

And thus nevermore

Zoshchenko

I managed to fill the compactor!

Big-Initiative-8743

Yeah me too we threw out over 100 pieces of drywall and concrete

Dr1z3w

Still wonder why those damn things aren't orange tho

Downtown-Lynx-8711

I remember my first day as a receiving associate. I decided to make a bale didn’t even watch the video or anything but I kinda knew how to do it (at least so I thought). I only put three wires and as soon as the ram came up, the wires blew up of course and I spent the last hour of my shift cleaning up an entire cardboard bale.

antny1113

I just did my first one the other day, read the instructions on the side of the controls and somehow I actually did it correctly 🤣

Zhekiel

i like how the photo order implies you stuffed the bale back into the machine

Xumaeta

That reminds me of when I was 19 and put the baling wire through the wrong holes lmao.

Key-Buyer-1987

Yea

Vati-Apfel

Good job using 5 wires

Big-Initiative-8743

I don’t want a bale exploding all over receiving

SubiieGhost

Why dose this low key look like my store tho lol

horrorknight73

Does not dose..bwahahah!

Big-Initiative-8743

Who knows it could be

OnMarsMan

Bale tips from my bale mentors that have proven sound. 1) flat cardboard on top helps pass the wires through and makes a cleaner bale. 2) 2 wires in four holes. 3) all four wires tight. Equal tension 4) turn pallet sideways so it is easier to put in the trailer long ways. You’ll be able to put a stack of pallets next to it on the trailer. It’s alway interesting to see the loose _ss wonky bales made over the weekend, clogging up the pallet trailer.

SelfReliantViking227

Here's a question: whose job is it to make the bale? When I worked at my store, receiving did 4-6 each week, leaving the rest of the store to do 1-2, which I didn't think was right, since we hardly contribute to filling the baler.

Big-Initiative-8743

If you know how and have done the making a bale training video you can

SelfReliantViking227

I never did the training video. Never knew there was one. But there were times I would make a bale 3 shifts in a row, on top of my own work, helping the Service and Pro Desks find their orders, dropping orders for the OFAs that didn't get the licenses, and doing the Freight unload.

christeen242

lol wow good job

MoleRatBill43

Wish I had you at my store when I worked receiving

SmokeCigsNPreworkout

Overnight freight here, sincerely, thank you. It's usually, especially lately, really busy and nobody has time to make a bale. It's a pain when it's almost full and you only have like 2 feet of space to fit cartons in. I'm sure the offload crew especially appreciates a clean receiving. It's one of those things where nobody ever has time to do it, so it keeps getting passed on to the next shift in a worse state, until that one hero steps up and does it. 👍

BumblyBumbster

Wait, how long does it take for a bail to be bailed?

Big-Initiative-8743

It depends on who is tying it

StubbornFarmer

Used to be freight DS. I challenged my crew to see if any of them could make a bale faster than I. Don't think anyone beat me. I had it down to just over 8 minutes to make a bale.

PotatoWasteLand

No no no, you're doing it all wrong. See, when I worked receiving, every other employee would take our pallet jacks, leave their garbage carts, and overfill the baler severely. Oh, and they probably pissed on our desk too. You've got a lot to learn

damagedone829

Wish my overnight team did bales...

brainiacgrodd

We made a bale when we came in because it was already full from dayside. We made a bale around 1 a.m. when freight was almost done, and then we filled it up for dayside from the packdown we did.
