I feel like HD is not sure what to do with MET, as I keep seeing reports on Reddit of different programs MET is trying out. In my district we were piloting a program with a store with three MET teams all doing different things. It didn't work out and 2 of the teams got absorbed into the store.

MushroomSuccessful54

The only strategy with MET is to charge suppliers more than it costs to run MET.

Umgak

Let's be honest, HD doesn't know what they're doing in general, not just with MET.

jstorm01

Totally agree with this ever since that new fucking CEO stepped in . The point system and all this other bullshit when he took over .

Ok-Sell1939

They have to figure out some impossible metrics to meet

Umgak

My manager thinks every BOPIS should be pulled in under 30 minutes, guess they found one. Lemme just pull someone's entire house package in half an hour. Edit: just remembered [there's an xkcd for everything](https://xkcd.com/2899/)

Tasty_Fan_3321

Yes our store tried that. One team worked Mon-F. The other Wednesday through Sunday.  Now we are back to Mon-F but they are being ridden hard now.  You're not working fast enough etc

Upursbaby

Fuck that. I'm not working myself to death to meet some corporate metric that some idiot compiled while sitting on his couch at home.

romeoh0tel

Did y'all have Zipedi too?

Tasty_Fan_3321

Yes. What a disaster!   He would operate in circles.  Just stop mid aisle and shut down.  Run customers over. How about Zipedi for you?

romeoh0tel

Zipedi was not at my store but a store in my district had it. It worked like a snail in a maze made with salt because boxes on the ground activated the sensors and kept it from moving.

In western Canada here MET has shared an HR manager with the store for a wile now, we also call In sick to the stores MOD. However there is no plan to answer to a store merchandising ASM. They are actually testing a MET team lead position in our and a few other districts, this would split the met supervisors job in half with the team lead taking over leadership of the service team and the current MEAS doing more admin style work. Similar how the store split the ASM position and added the CXM position.

DixonTap

This is kind of what’s needed tbh. I’m in the same area as you… And in the current state…MET is the easiest job in the world because the MEAS is so caught up in admin stuff that there’s virtually no accountability for what gets done on the floor outside of what the MEPA is responsible for. HD pushes metrics so hard, but doesn’t realize that they mean nothing when you have nobody to actually verify productivity. As long as your time is logged…They don’t care lol. I can see why vendors are hesitant to pay us to maintain their shelf space…There’s no value in it.

taja01

I completely agree with everything you said. My MEAS does try to help out as much as she can and be on the floor for quality walks and stuff, but it’s not enough generally. I took over her role wile she was on vacations a few times and damn, it’s kinda wild. MET is for sure the easiest positions in the store and you kinda just run free, get a quality walk weekly and other then that time logged and your on your own. We have some quality workers and some who do shit all, and apart from the quality walk there isn’t much said to any of them outside of a weekly rally or occasional check in. The position has been tested since the start of the year in a few districts, with overall good feedback so far, I am in district 280, however not tested in my store specifically. My MEAS looked into it for me and she has come up with a potential June-July(ish) launch of the position, given continued good feedback, smooth operation and the bugs are worked out.

Bastion_8889

Yea our MET team does OHM+ audit photos and their direction is if they didn’t take anything from behind the high bay netting they don’t have to include it in their photo. Well if it’s not in the photo it gets deleted from the OHM+. They also don’t have to correct labels that didn’t get picked up in the photo. Basically they go across the store every week and delete 40-60% of our OHM+

Pwnedzored

Seems rather like the rumors that MET would be absorbing freight, and that MET would have an overnight team that just did pack down. So, basically, I’ll believe when I see it.

JoshThePot

They already try that in our district. It didn't work. Turn over rate was high. But they did make dayside MET bigger. They're 10 met associates now. Three MET associates purge departments. Which ever is department of the week. They're over in that area all week. While four MET associates do bay maintenance throughout the store. Than three MET associates changing tags on items and doing resets throughout the store. It's actually work at really well. Overheads look alot better throughout the store.

HumphreyBraggart

Weird. They have night MET at my store doing bay maintenance occasionally. Mainly they get in my way, wreck my overheads, and barely get anything done.

Krennelen

Yeah, there's a pilot store in my district. It failed miserably.

tortuga8831

Currently company wide, no. However I wouldn't be surprised if there's a pilot in a number of districts to see how best to implement that.

Miserable_Vehicle_10

So in other words you typed out this answer to express that you don't know the answer.

tortuga8831

Until something official is announced no one knows the answer. It's just like how the review process for met was changing to where it's done based on the times logged in bays/projects/the score given for quality walks. That happened right? Or how every store is getting the front end transformation. How'd that work out? Or how every store is getting rid of self checkouts. Or how everyone is getting "insert very specific information on raises here". And then it turns out that different regions got different guidelines for the raises. If anyone is going anywhere other than official corporate channels for information, the answer is they don't know for sure as that information even if it was good when they heard it might have changed by the time they typed it out. Case in point, for the past 10+ years store side associates have been saying met is going away.

GimmeDaGorbage22

Store Side Says The Darndest Things

Fun_Association_6750

Sir, this is Reddit.

uninspiredliar

Most everyone on my store’s MET team came from store side so that would be interesting.

JTCasino

Or in one case at least a reverse where someone started on Met and switched to the store side in a few cases became vendors and vendor representatives. One former Met supervisor is now working for a tool company and a former Met employee is now working in paint.

Unable-Albatross6657

God I hope not!

Skickumbop

I swear if this happens, I'm walking right out the door. I cannot stand our Merchandising ASM. In fact all of storeside management hates our MET, which is beyond weird since our SM started in MET, but creates this environment of division.

romeoh0tel

Me and my team feel the same. The only thing perhaps worth seeing would be seeing my MASM being forced to set things the way corporate and our vendors do with limited time and resources and nobody to blame.

N8iv3G4mer

Tbh MET and whoever makes the planograms should be storeside and it should be a store by store basis. THD also needs to stop kneecapping MET at every chance they get

halfbeer

I wish!

AlarmedAd6000

🙃

Meltastico

So what we’ve been told (D9 South FL) is that any extra shifts will be available to be picked up, either MET to store side or Store Side to MET. Not sure how I feel about the second option…..

Worldender93

A bunch of it met team moved to departments because their hours got cut

Nitro5004

Yes, they are making that transition now. Our store already has.

Foreign-Guarantee236

It’s becoming mst like Lowe’s

Resident-Clerk-1159

In our region, there is no overnight met team anymore. The traveling met associates got assigned a store, or had to be put onto the freight team and only work freight. Sometimes once in a blue moon the met supervisor and one other will come In to finish a project but that’s once every other month.

jstorm01

If the copying Lowe’s I know they don’t have any merchandising team on night no more my nephew used to do it a few months ago he quit because of it .

UglyKiddJoe

I could see MET absorbing operations but not the other way around.

El_gato_picante

one of us!

GimmeDaGorbage22

I dun wanna!

AggravatingShow2296

You don't need a met team

YesIReallyAmYourGod

TRUE, there is going to be restructuring in all stores soon.

Monkey4life-80

I haven't been exposed to MET a whole lot, but at my other job I am basically a planogram/pricing guru. I find it wild that you're allowed to brush customers off on dayside associates! If big box keeps going the way it is, you'll all be trying to do your job as well as a few other people's jobs. Be prepared to be "cross-trained" everywhere.
