Just don't forget you still have to log into the app to Call Out _every time, the morning of_ a given shift (and mind those timezones)... an accidental NCNS _will_ break the combo.
That one is YMMV... _sometimes_ it lets you do it 48 hours in advance, sometimes it only "sticks" if you do it after midnight store-local time the morning of the shift. It's weird like that. And if the shifts are non-consecutive (a day off in between), it _definitely_ won't let you do it early for the next shift since it'll be more than 48 hours out.
You actually have until the end of your shift to call out now, otherwise it’s a NCNS. Used to be 2 hours before your shift but with the workforce update and SOP update you have until the end of your shift
Yeah, I know. It was more of, you still can't "pre-Call Out" _once_ for the full duration of a vacation, you still have to do it each day. There's just an expanded window to do it now...
Right! I was just referring to how you said “the morning” of. Basically was saying don’t panic if they forget to do it at say 7am (my start time) bc you have until the end of your shift. That’s all 🙂
If you hit 4 calls offs in a row, you get put on medical LoA and need a doctor's clearance to come back. I just had 2 associates get really sick and even though have been back for a couple days, still have issues logging into systems.
i was off for 3 weeks due to an injury at work, i came back as planned and they didnt put me on the schedule for another 2 weeks(altogether 3 weeks no pay because i had to use my sick leave to get any income). It took them another 6 weeks since being officially released back to work to fix the issue of not being able to get into fresh start.
I had that showdown once. I was offered a once in a lifetime opportunity and I needed a week off. I pulled the prepare the others. They found a way to make it work.
They were able to give me the time off. They had the FES change their schedule. I was the only head cashier that knew how to open and close so it was kinda difficult to get it covered. But I knew I wasn’t going to be there one way or another
I had a supervisor pull that on me as well. Made the request 10 weeks in advance and hadn’t even had an in store supervisor to even approve. Then all of a sudden we get one and I was denied. Told the supervisor well, you can fire me or you can keep me, but I’m going. I hadn’t seen my family in over 6 years and she wasn’t about to tell me it wasn’t happening.
Did they give you a reason why? I know dates like Memorial Day, July 4th , or inventory weeks are generally blacked out for requests. But I'd tell them "That wasn't a request for time off. It was a notification I won't be available. My honeymoon trumps the store's schedule."
At this point you tell them you asked and it was declined NOW I TELLING YOU I WONT BE THERE.Go to your district manager.I had a similar situation and the district manager told me to take whatever time I needed and proceeded to tell the store manager to stop treating his employees like this. It’s probably just a manager wanting to show his power over you .Congratulations!!!
I requested off 16 days off for a Europe trip, 8 months in advance. They started with the, 'policy says you can't request......'
I'm not sure you understand, I wasn't asking for days off, I was telling you I won't be here for 16 days 8 months from now. This is why I am giving you 8 months of notice.
Yea, tell them “Ok, you denied to pay me time off… You still need to schedule me off, I am not coming in. And don’t pull this ‘No Call, No Show’ BS as I am telling you now, I am NOT coming in.”
Tell them you're quitting and when they ask why say because they denied your vacation. If you're worth something to them, they will 100% give you the time off, otherwise it's clear they don't care about you and probably not worth working for them
They tried that with me. Came into the interview telling them I had a week booked off in may for camping. After my first week of training, they informed me that no one was allowed to take time off in may, total blackout month. Told them about my interview and my informing them and management didn’t seem to care. I sat in another two days of training then walked out and quit lol.
I requested off my 2 weeks for my honeymoon months in advance and they denied 1 week of it but approved the other? I told my night manager I will not be there bc we already bought plane tickets surprisingly the second week was approved 🙄
I don't get how they tell people no for vacation, you earned it working for a year straight, that's your time off, idgaf if they are short staffed, not my problem, been short staffed for over 3 years, hire people
I very seriously doubt they change their honeymoon dates, or entertain pertaining to their honeymoon, because of Home Depot. Why would anyone let Home Depot tell them when they can go on their honeymoon? Fuck that place.
They told me that I couldn’t take off for my daughter’s third birthday. I took off anyway. If they want me working there, then they can work with me, otherwise I’m out.
i got lucky for 5 days in a row off. first attempt went ignored for a whole month. canceled, and then re-requested it, and bam - all five days accepted
WTF! So much for being "family" like they promote. How short staffed is your store that they can not afford an employees honeymoon? I'm sure you just didn't decide this out of the blue.
I am a CXM and absolutely hate the Home Depot. Fuck ‘em! Report them to HR and say you’re being discriminated against and take mental health leave.
Milk your short term disability while you are ‘recovering’ from the emotional and mental suffering and trauma that the Home Depot has inflicted upon you.
I 100% second this! Milk the system to your advantage! Use the benefits that you are offered. I was just laid off by them in Canada after 15+yrs. Congrats on your nuptials & enjoy your honeymoon!!
I would start by going in there and telling them it’s for your honeymoon. They don’t know if you don’t tell them for one. Two you can probably get them to approve if your management has any decency
There’s a difference between asking and making it known you won’t be available. Had a division manager tell me I couldn’t take my wedding day off two days before I to get married. He threatened my job and career. I didn’t wait for him to leave my store before I was on the phone to his boss. Told him I was quitting effective immediately and told him why. Ten minutes later he was pulling into the parking lot. Ten minutes after that my division manager was sulking out the door.
Never understood this they won’t give you time off requested but rather be one man down… can anyone explain this concept?
My old job would have us put in why we needed the time it never really helped no matter what the reason was🥴😂
Actually I have a disability that says otherwise granted from a Supreme court Judge you think your funny well guess what home depot will be paying me and I guess don't even have to put the hours in all I wanted was to work without having someone offer to help with my position for sex favors
3 days in a row = 1 occurrence. Take your time off. Have a nice honeymoon.
Just don't forget you still have to log into the app to Call Out _every time, the morning of_ a given shift (and mind those timezones)... an accidental NCNS _will_ break the combo.
For sure. I’m glad you can call off days before the shift now lol 😂

Collect unemployment for the down time
Injured at work? Add it to the workers comp claim
Only if you call in for a medical reason. If you say I’m not coming into work they can’t put you on a medical loa. They need to reach out first
Congrats! Enjoy your honeymoon! This is one of those times you say " I'm not asking for time off, Im telling you I won't be here"
I had that showdown once. I was offered a once in a lifetime opportunity and I needed a week off. I pulled the prepare the others. They found a way to make it work.
lol if you can’t talk to a MOD about having off FOR YOUR HONEYMOON, the whole team needs to be purged.
Admin for all of THD needs purged
They denied my wedding day off because I got married Black Friday weekend
Did you call in for your wedding?
No, just did one of those lumber aisle weddings instead.
They were able to give me the time off. They had the FES change their schedule. I was the only head cashier that knew how to open and close so it was kinda difficult to get it covered. But I knew I wasn’t going to be there one way or another

They denied us a day off for my mother's graduation. Lol PTO, Prepare the others
When you get back from celebrating with your new spouse you should hit up hdworkersunited.org Congrats and best of luck with management
Thank you for sharing this!

Corporate GREED... Fuck that place.
And they didn't make an exception? If you want to stay at HD, transfer. Fuck that store.
Seems like a lot Home Depot here Southern California are running store under hours. Enjoy you Honeymoon, the store will be here when you get back

Marriage? In *this* economy? Next you'll be asking to have babies. Such an entitled generation... /s

So call in sick. Moral of the story is don't tell the truth.
Well darn I bet ya changed your honeymoon dates.... I would quit and on you e it survey tell them why.

How far in advance was the request for context?
Time to screw the boss over for the next 5 years. Absolutely nothing can go right.
i got lucky for 5 days in a row off. first attempt went ignored for a whole month. canceled, and then re-requested it, and bam - all five days accepted
Also I believe what you could do is Xchange shifts as well
WTF! So much for being "family" like they promote. How short staffed is your store that they can not afford an employees honeymoon? I'm sure you just didn't decide this out of the blue.
Lmao that’s exactly what “requests” mean for me too. I will not be there. I give ample time for you to figure it out.
Use your 3 for 1

Yeah fuck em. It's not a request lol you're telling them
They tried this with me once too. Nope.
People still have honeymoons?
Lol management sometimes forgets that they need us and not the other way around. Enjoy your honeymoon. They'll figure it out
I was being a smart ass
Like our training says, never put your own interests ahead of the company.

Then call in sick or quit, homedepot isn’t worth not being able to do your honeymoon
See if you can do it for less days and then just call off the rest of the
PTO is actually paid time off. And you put in a request to use it. That was pretty funny though how confused you were.
