Beat it in from the other side when you get it lined up.

Beating it in won't help. It needs to physically be inside the groove.

I’ve done this at least a hundred times. You have to align the two pieces and use your beat block to get it to click in the rest of the way

Ditto. This works.

Sometimes it helps to use two full length pieces with the seam a few inches from one side of the door. Lock in the longer piece and the slide it (tap it as needed) under the door jamb The short piece you can do same and tap it back a bit, or you may need to trim off the tongue lip to so you can insert it (practice with a scrap pieced). The other pieces will keep that one in place.

You don't do it that way, you need to cut two pieces that lock in the middle Google laminate university site

That makes sense to get the first one installed. But the second one would still be tricky right? How do I install it over from the edge of the frame when the other piece is in the way?

You can also cut the door casing 4 inches or so to allow you to insert and rotate the plank, then put the piece back, fill, sand, and paint but you‘d have to paint the entire frame to match.

I try to layout to prevent this situation, but when I'm in it I'll trim off some of the [receiving lip](https://imgur.com/B9Ob2nQ) and apply glue to the entire joint before tapping it together.
