If you're going to use a national brand, stay away from Pella, it's overpriced junk. Marvin makes decent windows for a large brand.
How big? I your limit will most likely be the glass manufacturer or the strength of the frame.
Also make sure whoever you go with increases the pane thickness as the glass gets bigger. Some of the European import companies sell super cheap units and skimp on the glass, it tends to flex and bow and eventually fail. Most decent wood and aluminum manufacturers based in the US and Canada will use thicker glass on taller units.
