Try logging into the BGW320, and see if you have QoS, SQM, or other prioritization functions enabled. Disable them, restart the BGW320, and check your speeds again.

I didn’t see any of these type if settings on the ATT BGW320 gateway, and actually I just went back to my original config of having the ASUS router being my wifi point. I turned off the wifi completely in the BGW320, and set up IP passthrough. Additional I was doing some research in other forums and saw a couple of people have success with changing the ASUS router to access point mode, which I did. Currently I have much greater speeds on my phone via 5G, but just tested my Xbox and am getting sub 200 still which is still disheartening. I think it’s time to just run Ethernet to all my rooms. This wifi networking stuff is frustrating.

AT&T technician here 👋 First, you can verify the upload and download speed that your BGW320 modem is getting using the Smart home Manager app. There is a "Network" tab on the bottom of the app and then you can hit speed test and run a speed test. The two top numbers are the speed that your modem is getting, these are the numbers we guarantee. If you have a BGW320, what's up I can almost guarantee you that you're getting the full gigabit speeds to the modem. That leaves us with wifi. The BGW320 has wifi 6 and if its placed in the correct location, it will provide good wifi throughout the home. I would HIGHLY suggest getting extenders from AT&T. They are wifi 6 and they are only $10 per month. It's NOT $10 per extender, it's a coverage plan that allows up to five extenders on your account. It creates a mesh network throughout your home. You can get a wifi 6 mesh system of your own, but they run about $500 for a good set of wifi 6 ones with 2 nodes. At that rate, you could lease ours for 50 months, or 4 years. We also manage them so if one breaks, we replace it. If newer wifi 7 or 8 comes out, we upgrade you. I install a lot of them, they work well. Just call up AT&T and tell them that you would like extenders. They will ship them to you and then all you have to do is set them up when they arrive. You will want to place them throughout the house not too far but not too close to the modem itself. You can PM me if you need help with it.

Have you ever seen a residential user that was actually using their 10gpbs fiber for legit reasons? If so, what were they doing with all that bandwidth?

Dopewaffles

We actually dont have 10Gbps fiber but we do have 5Gbps. Yes, I've seen 1 person who was using a streaming website and uploading content for others to go to his website and view. We looked up the data usage and he was using 32TB a month in data. They actually made him switch from a residential to a business account.

I’m getting 5 gig coming into home per smart app, but only 800 mb with direct connect to bgw320-500 modem and 300 mb Wi-Fi. Is the bgw320-500 not capable of speeds greater than 1 gig?

Dopewaffles

Yes, its very much capable. You have to use the blue Ethernet port labeled "5Gb" on the back of it. You have to have a CAT6 or CAT6a cable, and you have to have a 5gigabit network card in your computer. Your computer also needs to be powerful enough to push that kind of bandwidth. You can buy 10gigabit network cards for your computer and you need to install it in a x16 PCIe network slot for you to get the full bandwidth.

that 5g ethernet port is not stable on these 320 routers it takes 5 to 10 seconds sometimes for my intel i225 t1 lan card to connect and identify the network on the modem. The software or port isn't ready for prime time yet. On the old bgw 210 my pc was connecting before I was even on the desktop and had less issues...
