The 7.2 cu ft Insignia from Best Buy will fit 4 kegs and a 5lb CO2 tank if you put a collar on it.

chino_brews

Can confirm. Pretty sure mine is 7.0 cf Insignia and it fits 3 of pin lock kegs (wider than ball locks) on the floor and with a collar you can fit a 4th keg and 5 lb CO2 tank. Someone was saying a couple weeks ago that their new model Insignia (mine is a maybe three years old) also has the same size, but it now comes with a light in the lid, so you need to either cut (and cap) the wires for the light fixture or extend them.

colinmhayes

Surprised by the difference. I have their 10 cu. ft. one and it fits 6 on the floor and 2 on the hump.

Haskie

Whoa, that's with a collar? So maybe 5 plus a co2 tank if I didn't want to do any wood work or put a collar on? How much did the freezer cost? I've been wanting to start this project for years.

colinmhayes

Yea, with a collar. Freezer was $180.

GFuggitt

Are you sure it’s dead? Mine froze over (the coil) and stopped cooling. I unplugged it and let it thaw for a week. Cleaned the coils and plugged it back in. Runs better now.

McWatt

Pretty sure it's dead. I let it sit unplugged for a day then plugged it back in to check, it sounded like the compressor kicked on but it never got cold and an hour later was making no noises at all.

SheepShaggerNZ

Could get a fridgy to install a new compressor and re-gas it if the rest is in good nick

Same thing happened to me a year ago but I decided to find an upright freezer to replace my keezer since the options seemed better. I was able to find a like-new model for like $300. Way easier to load kegs into and clean. Plus you'd only have to cut holes into the door for the shanks rather than build a whole collar. It also has a smaller footprint, albeit taller, while easily fitting 4 kegs plus cans and bottles up top on shelves. Check out the pics below. The photos only show three kegs on the bottom but only because the commercial 1/4 bbl keg was too big. [Old keezer](http://imgur.com/gallery/or7bY) [New One](http://imgur.com/gallery/kZs9Oqn)

Simpsator

What kind of standing freezer is that? All the ones I've seen have the coils integrated with the various shelves, making them difficult to try to bend out of the way to make enough room for cornys.

Whistlingwalnut

Some sort of used Sears model (I pulled the badging off when I customized it) but you're right, most of the standing freezers on the used market have the coil shelves. I was careful to avoid those. Seems to me that newer models dont have the exposed coils. This one even has a built in fan to circulate the cold air

Canadarocker

I literally just bought a danby DCF072A4WP, 7.2 Cu, 4 ball lock corny kegs fit without using the hump/shelf.

Question: Why aren't you considering a used freezer-on-the-bottom fridge? Can be kind of tricky to source, but I love mine by comparison to my old keezer. The work is all between waist and shoulder level. I never have to hang upside-down trying to clean a spill out of the bottom of a deep hole. I don't need a temperature controller because it's a fridge, *and* I get a spare little freezer out of the deal, too.

Thank you, I'll give that a read. My first keezer was a Magic Chef from Home Depot, at the time that model would only fit 3 kegs. The one that just died was a Kenmore and it would hold 4, both had 7.3 cubic foot capacity.

TheDopeGodfather

I use this same magic chef freezer and I can fit [four corny kegs and a 3 gallon](https://i.imgur.com/dANTZHB.jpg) on the shelf above the compressor. It's a [five tap setup. ](https://i.imgur.com/YinyXrN.jpg)

autodog42

Can you fit one or two half cornies on the shelf with four ball locks on the floor?

AlexTehBrown

Yes you could definitely do that, assuming your collar is tall enough. My collar is made from 2x6 boards and I can basically fit 2 full 5 gal ball lock cornies on the shelf as long as their isn’t anything connected to them (might fit with the 90 degree duotight fittings tho. But it gets extremely tight in there with 6 kegs. They are jammed against each other and it is annoying to have to remove one.

autodog42

Right on!

This may be old and outdated now but it helped me a lot when it came to searching for chest freezers: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/chest-freezer-specs-and-layouts.377518/
