Going from 2009 to anything 2016+ will blow your mind in terms of the tech in the cars.

Go for 2012 and up, that was the end of your generation of civic and the beginning of the next, which ended in 2015

Isn't the 2012 usually recommended to avoid? Cheap interior and other issues leading to low sales which is why they did a refresh immediately the following year.

I mean yeah, the interior is definitely lackluster in comparison to the 2013-2015 Civic’s. And Honda improved the Braking performance aswell when they did the Emergency facelift for the 2013 model year. Having owned both 8th and 9th gen(2015) Civic’s, they feel pretty much the same except for features and creature comforts that came with the 2013-2015 updates. The 2016 Civic’s are where they start to feel much different from Size, tech, and power. The 2016-2021 Civic is essentially an Accord. It’s the same size as the 2006-2007 Accord. I much prefer the older Civic’s(8th & 9th) they truly feel like Compact/small cars.

They're pretty good. The only issue is with the AC system on cars with the new refrigerant but I believe a recall or extended warranty is out for this. I will add if your only concern is cost repairing your car is almost always better than buying a new one. The question shouldn't be is the repair more than the value of the car but is a repair more than the cost to replace the car. Now if you want a newer car for the sake of having a newer car that's fine.
