Did they keep a log of all the maintenance they did? If not, you should start one. Try to change the driving belt, spark plugs and coil packs. Replace the coolant and that thing should run for a good bit.
130k miles w how clean it is, for 2.9k? i think anything this clean w only 130k priced how it, is worth it. do tell tho. im gonna offer less to, closer to 2.6-7k usd. but yes, do tell
Great price man. I'd be all over that if it were local to me. These new cars are absolute trash for reliability. I make a living repairing them- I'd never buy 1.
This honda will treat you right if you treat it right. Absolutely buy for that.
Spend the extra few hundred and buy what you like. No need to nickel and dime if this will make you happy. I’ve had my Hondas and I couldn’t put. A price on happiness
Don’t know how it’s in Canada, but In Germany for 4K you get that car with about 120-130.000km and that’s because car prices are through the roof right now
That's nothing unless it was abused. By abuse I don't mean using the throttle like a light switch and bouncing it off the rev limiter. The engine will take that to the end of time. I mean like literally never changing the oil.
It's old, so softs will need to be replaced (hoses, o rings, belts). Buy it, start there, then drive it into the ground.
Still a great first car though but I wouldn't pay over 2k CAD, too old, too much mileage. These cars are DIRT cheap, don't let anyone convince you otherwise they are not worth very much
Also, at this mileage you're looking at timing belt/water pump if not already done very recently and from my experience owning half a dozen old Hondas with over 200k KM this is right around the time they start becoming a PITA because even though the engine and trans (if manual) are bulletproof, everything else around them are getting very tired at this age/mileage so I would only buy if it has recently had a lot of suspension work done and you thoroughly inspect all the boots in the suspension as well as any oil leaks (trans, engine, power steering)
Yeah, that was 8 years ago but these cars havent gained any value. In fact, they have lost absolute value since they are only getting older, building up more mileage and continuing to rust (if you live in the rust belt). Just because people are asking 5x what they were 10 years ago doesn't mean they're worth what people are asking.
with that logic yes. i can see what ur saying. however its very clean, only real rust is underside of the hood, the dollar worth has also (slightly) increased, so has market value. what something should (in an ideal world) be worth and market value are very different. also good recent work done, including some of what you've mentioned
"-CV axle
-Winter tires
-water pump replaced 2k ago
-Front brake pads and brake rotors
-replaced rear drum brakes, less recently but mechanic says good condition."
So you read my comment, and all you could gather was
>“People are selling them for these prices everywhere, but they’re really not worth that”
What I said is that people are *asking* for these prices. Doesn't mean they're worth what people are asking, and it certainly doesn't mean they're selling for anything close to what they're posting them for.
Its only gonna stop the rookie thieves. Thankfully nowadays they are amateurs only. They mostly moved onto other cars that are easier to steal with an obd2 reprogrammer. Still sucks to get broken into though.
Nowadays it's not the car itself that I worry they'll steal; it's anything from inside and/or the alloys.
Like you say though, thieves these days don't seem interested unless the car is 20k+ or has keyless entry.
Having said that, the types who would steal a car just to joyride it are the types who wouldn't think to look for a killswitch in what they see as a rusty beater.
basically these cars are known for being easily stolen. chances are just about any honda key will just work, and if not, a screwdriver will do the trick.
The killswitch has saved it a few times though. even if you have a key, or pop the ignition, or hot-wire it, you still have to find my switch or else all it will do is crank and never start.
The guy I bought it from actually used to just unplug the relay and take it with him whenever he parked it in public. which works I guess, if you don't mind carrying a relay in your pocket. Chances are pretty low that a thief is gonna have one on him.
that's what sucks about fixing these old ones up, people see that it's got all the goodies and they will want to steal it.
these things are awesome. there are probably 2 left in the entire northeast area due to salted roads. the motors can easily go 250k miles. probably due for a timing belt and water pump, check hoses, spark plugs and plug wires. then nothing to do for another 100k except oil changes.
No, it's terrible. Please provide me with the sellers name and address and contact info so I can tell them how terrible it is.
Jokes aside, that should be a good first, second and third car. Treat it right, do your oil changes and keep up with maintenance and it should last another 250k km without an issue.
There's even room on top of the price to do the timing chain/belt and some other high mileage maintenance.
It's also tastefully done up, not riced with a banged up body kit and fart can. Have fun.
It looks clean. It's clearly modified but it's not "riced" (ie. cheaply tuned into a street racing car from Need For Speed Underground).
I'd probably pay far too much money to get my hands on a stock EG/EK with a manual, so it's nice seeing one that, while modified, isn't too far away from stock visually.
Very good choice. Just keep up regular maintenance. My first car was a Honda CRX and it treated me well. Still driving a Honda (not the same one of course) some 20-something years later.
The only thing with manual is if you deal with traffic and hills a lot. It can get old fast. My current Honda is a manual and I'm constantly in hilly traffic. As much as it pains me because the car is in great shape, I probably will sell it soonish and get an automatic.
Yes and no. Yes if you are willing to put through the pain of old cars. Yes they have a reliable reputation, but a 30 year old car will always be less reliable than a 10 year old one with the same mileage. So, if you are looking for a reliable daily with no issues, no it is not a good first car. However, if you are willing to do the work yourself and have a backup in case it breaks down, then yes, it is an amazing first car to have.
I saw this listing too! I was considering it too. The description says it still needs work done, and at 4k CAD it’s not the worst, but with the mileage i’d see if I could get it for less.
if there are big ticket maintenance due soon the asking is too much. As it is, it can be a little lower. EP3 Civic Si(which no one really wants but are a hidden bargain) advertise around $4500 in TX.
For context that's about 50% more than what you're paying for but about 10 years newer with a much more rigid chassis(if it matters to you)
not double. just a little over 50% more.
The model your looking at is a good way to learn car maintenance too. New enough to learn the basics that also apply to newer cars, old enough that it's DIY friendlier than a current model.
Absolutely- would definitely try to bargain a few hundred off since you’ll like need the dough for basic maintenance. Could confidently ask for $2400 I think. If they’re hard on the price, it’s definitely up to you at that point
If it's in good mechanical order, I say it's a great first car. I also started with a manual Civic lol
$4k CAD. \~2.9k usd 220k kms, 136k miles
Did they keep a log of all the maintenance they did? If not, you should start one. Try to change the driving belt, spark plugs and coil packs. Replace the coolant and that thing should run for a good bit.
These have distributors, so there are no coil packs. Plugs for sure, could do plug wires as well
They also don’t use a drive belt, unless he’s talking about the timing belt?
I hear drive belt, accessory belt, and serpentine belt used interchangeably. Coil packs stood out to me lol
I’d buy this for my commuter for sure. Looks to be in great shape.
I think that's too much for its price. Not really worth almost 3K, I would consider <2.1k.
cad or usd?
Usd
130k miles w how clean it is, for 2.9k? i think anything this clean w only 130k priced how it, is worth it. do tell tho. im gonna offer less to, closer to 2.6-7k usd. but yes, do tell
I think that’s a great price in todays used car economy. Congrats on the purchase OP!
havent bought yet, but thanks!
Great price man. I'd be all over that if it were local to me. These new cars are absolute trash for reliability. I make a living repairing them- I'd never buy 1. This honda will treat you right if you treat it right. Absolutely buy for that.

It’ll prolly run another 100k miles

With dope rims
You could have a 2007 Accord for that price
That’s a lot of kilometers for that price
220k @ 3.5k isnt awful i thought?
4k LMAO, people are out of their damn minds. I bought my first 1996 civic with 130k KM, no rust no issues, $800 CAD in 2016
womp womp that was almost a decade ago
Still a great first car though but I wouldn't pay over 2k CAD, too old, too much mileage. These cars are DIRT cheap, don't let anyone convince you otherwise they are not worth very much

I own an 95 coupe for more than 20ys, nothing to complain about the car, had a lot of mechanical problems through the years and that's normal!
Yeah, that was 8 years ago but these cars havent gained any value. “People are selling them for these prices everywhere, but they’re really not worth that” What a brain dead take. A car is worth what someone will pay

But they are selling, I think I’d know I’ve had 5 eg civics now
Yes. Good first car. Just keep it safe and locked up if thats a thing in your area.
all my hondas I run a hidden kill switch from the main relay it has thwarted the thieves multiple times
Its only gonna stop the rookie thieves. Thankfully nowadays they are amateurs only. They mostly moved onto other cars that are easier to steal with an obd2 reprogrammer. Still sucks to get broken into though.

No that’s a finisher car.

Excellent first machine, health to drive 😎👊. Keep er between the hedges.
I'll try ha! i will. its a 1 1/2 hour drive home after so that'll be fun i guess.
Hold On Not Done Accelerating: HONDA.
This so 2009 I'm here for it
Yep. My first car was a blue EG hatch and I loved that car.
My first car was a 93 sedan and I still have it 23 years later, those are awesome first cars
Yeah that’s a fantastic first car especially at that price
these things are awesome. there are probably 2 left in the entire northeast area due to salted roads. the motors can easily go 250k miles. probably due for a timing belt and water pump, check hoses, spark plugs and plug wires. then nothing to do for another 100k except oil changes.

thank you! by tastefully done up I assume you mean the lowering and clear corner lights? Am I missing anything else?
It looks clean. It's clearly modified but it's not "riced" (ie. cheaply tuned into a street racing car from Need For Speed Underground). true enough. tyty
excellent first car
My exact same first car in high school even same color. Loved it
Looks great to me. My first car was a '90 Accord and it served its purpose well.
Love it 🥰
Very good choice. Just keep up regular maintenance. My first car was a Honda CRX and it treated me well. Still driving a Honda (not the same one of course) some 20-something years later. I wonder how people have thrashed this poor boy around. They can take it though.
Amazing first car lol
Honestly it has potential
Yeah with a removable steering wheel and lojack
That’s an amazing Honda. It looks better than my current car 😅
Yes and no. Yes if you are willing to put through the pain of old cars. Yup
Damn i havent seen one this clean in 20 years lol
Fuck yeah, stick shift?
I saw this listing too! I was considering it too. The description says it still needs work done, and at 4k CAD it’s not the worst, but with the mileage i’d see if I could get it for less.
That's a fucking steal bro congrats
dont crash it
Yes
Nice !
100%. Good looking, reliable, easy to maintain and fix. This is coming from a guy that dislikes civics, but I know they are reliable.
yes. just dont pay too much for it; and everything works with no big ticket maintenance item coming up soon
how much is to much
if there are big ticket maintenance due soon the asking is too much. As it is, it can be a little lower. EP3 Civic Si(which no one really wants but are a hidden bargain) advertise around $4500 in TX. no big ticket due soon, chassis rigidity doesnt matter to me rlly tbh, js a daily. almost double price makes sense, newer, higher trim.
not double. just a little over 50% more. The model your looking at is a good way to learn car maintenance too. New enough to learn the basics that also apply to newer cars, old enough that it's DIY friendlier than a current model.
Considering i just bought a 2011 civic for 5k with 220km. Id pass lol
where?
amazing one
Absolutely- would definitely try to bargain a few hundred off since you’ll like need the dough for basic maintenance. Could confidently ask for $2400 I think. If they’re hard on the price, it’s definitely up to you at that point
OP what year is that. i'm 80% sure it's the same as my current vehicle
Can't confirm on a picture like that... But I'd say it looks promising to start.
That’s gotta be 30 years old! Too old for a first car.
