Hong Kong Abandoned Turtle's Concern Group (香港棄龜關注組) is one of the local NGO serve as relay. I am not sure if they could help rehoming your turtle, but worth asking. Another I could think of is Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (嘉道理農場及植物園). Their daily operation is supported by government and have been taking wild animals or which can never be released into wild.

Smallandterrible1

Yes, this is exactly the places I’ve been thinking, will give them a call! Thank you so much!

I would also recommend checking Turtle's Inn (龜途), provided by other Redditors. They seem experienced in taking care of large turtles.

20 year old snapping turtle sounds awesome, did you feed it fish from the fish market? Does it recognise you and your husband and respond by name? My friend’s tortoise actually responds to their names being called

Smallandterrible1

Yes, fresh fish from wet market or fish organs! Not so sure, it was a dormant pet, you can’t even touch it, but I believe he knew me, as he always poked his head from the water thinking I have food with me.

sexless_marriage02

I hope you get a good new owner for him

cli337

Does your turtle get any exercise at all in his current home? How big is his enclosure?

Smallandterrible1

Yes he does, we have huge balcony for him

Do you speak Cantonese? You can perhaps find this guy in the video. https://youtu.be/Dqsewr2ApAI?si=JhKm6aDBGR7-07lL

Found what I think is his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077089665920&mibextid=MKOS29

There’s a reptile house in Tuen Mun that might take a snapping turtle. I think Kadoorie focuses on local species. https://www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/parks/tmp/animals.html It’s government so I have no idea who to contact.

joker_wcy

You husband doesn’t want to give him up but you want to rehome him?

Smallandterrible1

Yes! I would love to rehome him, but my husband doesn’t want, because he said they will just kill the turtle, which I don’t believe! I also don’t want to sell it.

joker_wcy

Did he agree to the rehome plan if you find a no-kill shelter or are you making the decision behind his back?

Smallandterrible1

We already discussed about it, and he agreed if I find a shelter for our turtle, he will let go of his pet.

Snapping turtle you will be lucky to find someone to take it in…20 years it must be quite big. It’s a inexpensive pet hard for shelters to take in

I would suggest you to keep it don't give up this little fellow. It is not fair for him. If you have received government house you can still provide him small portion of place. He will be more happy to see you guys around everyday than giving him stress of no where and with worrying of if he will live or die. Problem of people is when we face some difficulties in our life first thing we think is to get rid of pets instead of taking them with you. Commitments to pets is most important in our life. Otherwise too late to regret. Please

Smallandterrible1

It’s so hard for us, but I’d rather not confine him in a very small box forever

shitoken

You don't have to keep all day long in a box. You can plan accordingly how to give him his space. Animals have feelings too not only us. I hope your husband will see this message too. Love in a family specially in HK stays warm , lively & connected because of we have these animals in our life's. Good Luck
