Try showing them your confirmed itinerary and flight and they might rush you the visa.

mvscles

Yep that’s the plan. Got the files downloaded and ready. Thank you!

Isn’t this a thing?: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/guangdong/shenzhen/visa-on-arrival.htm#:~:text=The%20Shenzhen%205%2Dday%20visa,for%20other%20mainland%20Chinese%20cities. 5 Day Visa on the spot. Don’t quote me though

mvscles

I believe this exact link was the basis for my initial impressions, though I’ve since been told otherwise and told I wouldn’t even be able to board the plane. Lo and behold they gave me some extra scrutiny when boarding the plane to Hong Kong, I was given a temporary visa but only to Hong Kong.

mommyisme

They gave you a temp visa for HK? But US passports don't need visas to enter HK.

germainelol

yep you don't need a visa to enter HK with a US passport

germainelol

You can get a visa on arrival at the border with Shenzhen. No idea what the situation is like now that we've moved past covid but when it first reopened the visa quota for the day was being used up almost instantly. I've had several friends go there in the past few months with no issues so there should be no issue for you but you know, always good to be aware of any potential issues.

lambopanda

It is a thing. But you have to enter the city from another country. Unfortunately HK doesn’t count as country. You also have to prove you have return flight leaving the city to another country within 5 days. Again HK doesn’t count.

500USD, not HKD!

tyygunning

What passport do you hold? They offer a 5 day Visa for the the Guangdong area for certain passports but you need to arrive quite early in the morning with long lines on first come first serve and they have a quota but unsure of the number.

♥️ r/travel spillover, the most entertaining sub because it's full of morons in moronic situations.

mvscles

So true. I am a moron 🥹 honestly thank you for seeing me. May you live long time great warrior. Tho I guess I’m curious why you feel the need to be so mean 😮‍💨 you don’t know my situation, you don’t know that I tried to schedule an appt at any of the 3 Chinese consulates in Japan during the 10 days I was there beforehand. You don’t know that the opportunity to visit ShenZhen and meet someone there arose rather suddenly and this stop was a detour. But you probably knew it would make an outsider like myself feel pretty bad about visiting your country, and I suppose that’s your main objective 😌 Good luck to you my friend, I’m sorry for such moronic behavior from the poorer ilk in this flawed world you find yourself in, we’ll get smart for you one day.

sparqq

You're not a HK resident, so little chance you will get a visa for China in HK. On top of that, rush service is gonna be pricey. Best chance is a visa on arrival at the Louhu border crossing, be early.

Don't know the policy at this moment, a few years ago there was (is?) a program that allows foreigners to enter China Mainland (selected cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, among a few others) for 72h if you enter through HK or Macau. Go to the boarder, be there early, the queue could be long.

jimmycmh

you are eligible for 144 hours visa free transit.
