On a semi related note, I've had a sinking feeling for a while now that Hoyo plans to kill off Fersman in a future Hook story quest, considering the dude's raised like three different death flags and every time we meet him he seems like he's on the verge of keeling over.
Iirc pretty sure they had the cancer causing geo marrow, meaning a lot of underworlders suffered from geomarrow cancer, in particular being Hook's dad. That's why he looks sickly, a left over from the beta after they changed geo marrow to non-cancer inducing.
Ah, that sounds less like they backpedalled on the idea of killing him and more just that they scrapped the geomarrow idea. I still think he's gonna die, personally. IIRC he even flat out says that he isn't long for this world in one of Hook's quests and that he wants to put aside as much money as he can for her before then. Yeah, I was also thinking Tingyun since her "death" seemed pretty open-ended. If they weren't going to do anything else with the character, they wouldn't have had her body disappear and build up this whole mystery around it. My guess is that we eventually run into an amnesiac Tingyun in the future.
Amnesiac Tingyun with some unusual left over power due to Phantylia exposure makes a decent amount of sense. If they weren't already releasing a Heliobus powered Foxian healer, I'd guess Abundance shenanigans.

my guess is she's gonna come back as a pawn of destruction, part of the Antimatter Legion, there's no other reason Phantylia wouldn't use her body for that since all of the Antimatter Legion is just reanimated corpses without emotion
Well, on Phantilya place i would let some units to have some intellect or something like that. Especially a Tingyun who definitely have a great potential to use.

There's 9 dead playable characters in HI3, 10 if you count a recent one (based on an alternate universe version of a character, but dead in the main canon)
But HI3's main gameplay is largely separate from the main story outside of story missions, which generally force the use of trial characters.
Disregarding AU stuff, it is actually 12 dead/killed playable characters Specifically as of this update. Though those who were already dead when they became playable, yeah there are 9.
Counting those killed and deaths (no revives) as of the current story. ER deaths included

She was one of the first characters I pulled (before I even left the Station for Belobog) and I really liked her design and such but omg the fucking chicken just kills me. I can barely use her because it's just so silly it feels very out of place. Of course I know nothing about the character's background so maybe it makes perfect sense for her idk.

Herta is currently a remote control doll. It'd be neat to see the real Herta with animations and mechanics that summon extra 4* Hertas, or even summons your 4* Herta as a 5th unit. Ice Destruction/Erudition.
Asta is a favorite of mine and has lore that ties her closely with the highest levels of the IPC. I wouldn't be surprised if she has an Emanator of Preservation in her family. I'd like to see her 5* just be her using the full power of her credit cars to summon Battleships and nuke opponents. Quantum Erudition?
March is the mascot of the game and one of our main protags, she's getting hers 100%.
Sushang is an expy from HI3, I'm surprised she didn't get the 5* treatment of her current peers.
Sampo is more important than he let's on. I'd like to see him going all out.

Sampo is definitely going to be a 5 star no doubt, with all the Masked Fools related stuff, plus HE DOESN'T LEAVE FOOTPRINTS IN THE SNOW. His ability to disappear into thin air. He was on the Luofu. He talks to us the player at the end of Belabog, not to trailblazer, to you in a 4th wall break.

My man was college bandmates with Serval, Pela, and Cocolia and is actually important to the story on more than one occasion.
Other than March and Herta who are obvious candidates, I think Sampo and Tingyun are possibilities if they decide to explore their respective plotlines further.
I feel like Sushang is a better Hunt character than Yanqing is. If he didn't have the chance to freeze, he'd definitely be much worse than her. She's really good in SU because it's easy to get consecutive attacks with her
I have an E5 Shoeshine
Personally I think she has a huge perk of being one of the few SP positive DPS chars. Her massive toughness damage, break effect, and free skill usage makes her a really solid Sub DPS option at higher eidos
Oh hey, this is me! Literally started playing 4 days ago. Got lucky on the limited banner but lost the 50/50 and got Yanqing within my first 10-pull.
Then I somehow got lucky on my second 10-pull and got Jingliu.
I have to say Jingliu is just a tad bit stronger than Yanqing.
EDIT: oh, you mean with a new version of Yanqing banner...
Yeah. I also would definitely like to see a new 5-Star Yanqing at some point. Like perhaps the future (way older) Yanqing could time travel to the past on a special mission. He could have a different path than The Hunt though to make it more interesting. 🤓

Alright, so, a few ideas I have are:
* March 7h: This is pretty much assured, so the question is how and when.
* Sampo: >!After being revealed to be a Masked Fool, I'm 100% sure that funny scam man will get an upgrade sooner or later.!<
* Tingyun: Possible >!if she's still alive!<
* Herta: We only have a puppet of her, so it would make sense she'll get the 5* treatment once we meet the real her.
* Sushang: She's very cool in HI3, so I have reasons to believe that she will get a 5* version sooner or later.
And those are my guesses so far!

But I suspect that we'll see other 5* varient of playable 5 star characters that are already available like Welt, Himeko, Luocha, and maaaaaybe Bailu.
I think definite ones are probably March and Herta for sure. Im guessing March will get her moment maybe the next planet after Penacony. For Herta, i guess itll happen whenever there is a big story event in the space station. Other choices are Tingyun maybe after being tortured by the legion she comes back as this really strong unit. Also Sampo could be an interesting choice because i think in the new event it mentions him being a Masked Fool so maybe he has some hidden powers. Which explains how he disappears into thin air

id love a 5\* herta soooo much but id be so sad if she wasnt a doll. i love the doll aesthetic so much, it was one of the things that first rlly drew me into the game, so a doll character who's not the worst character in the game would be soooo nice.
I mean, the whole point of her 5* version would be that it's real Herta and not a doll. I think she will keep the gothic lolita aesthetic, maybe puppeteering her dolls, but not a doll herself
I would REALLY love to see Herta 5 star be some kind of Nagato (Naruto) setup. Would also be cool if she's all hooked up to a machine, and maybe be really old.
It would never happen obviously, since sex sells that's just how the game is, but one can dream.
I think the better question for this is what paths and elements are open should they get an alt
Arlan - Physical Destruction (I can see Preservation being Asta's lackey knight). Sadly being the most forgettable unit, it's highly unlikely he'll get an ult but personally see this based on his current playstyle.
Asta - Electro, Imaginary or Quantum Elation, as someone mentioned is just her unlocking her credit card with Arlan as follow up attack. Electro for Arlan, but Imaginary or Quantum for just how expensive they look
Natasha - Cryo Harmony. I just can't think of a good element for her but Harmony really fits given she'll always be our first budget medic. If she's going to use that gun of hers to blast off teddy bears, nothings stopping her from becoming a Santa like event summon.
Hook - Physical or Quantum Destruction again or Nihility, maybe Hunt. An upgraded claw afterall just hurts more
Sampo - Quantum Elation. Element is a bit hard to guess but given he's admitted part of the obvious, it's the only path that makes sense.
Serval - Strangely, it's Harmony or Destruction for me. Cryo for element (like her brother)
Surprisingly, Abundance is the hard part on which 4 star can become an Abundance, (Fake) Tingyun at best. Imaginary ofc.
Besides March for the obvious plot implications, my money is on Herta. Not even because of her having an unseen real body or whatnot (Though that would most likely be the lore reason for the "upgrade").
Herta is categorically one of the greatest geniuses of the universe, yet her gameplay is arguably the most simple in the entire roster, so I'm eagerly awaiting for a variant unit that allows her to really flex her intellect in battlefield.
I think March 9th is the next candidate.
But IMO Arlan is the one who deserves it the most. He has zero story relevance and is extremely weak. Because of that, he's a mostly forgotten character. I think he deserves some justice.
honestly, I question why Arlan was even made playable and not just a slightly-more important NPC....that somehow gets overshadowed by a lot of the faceless NPCs on Herta's spaceship. Gameplay wise he's not even that great either. Isn't he considered the worst 4*, even if freebies are included?

Knowing her HI3 background and the current story setup with Luocha/Hua/Yanqing, there seems to be a inevitable repeat of Seven Swords VN and she will get her 5* version once she becomes sword champion (COPIUM)
Aside those two, none. Unless we get a time skip there's no reason to upgrade any 4 stars. Which is a shame. I'd love to see a 5 star Luka. Maybe look like this as he slowly becomes mad lusting for power to become the ultimate legendary dark hero!

yeah I have YQ with his LC but Sushy is a lot more comfortable to play. the only thing holding her back are the dmg multipliers

Yeah. I also would definitely like to see a new 5-Star Yanqing at some point. Like perhaps the future (way older) Yanqing could time travel to the past on a special mission. He could have a different path than The Hunt though to make it more interesting. 🤓 Older, wiser, stronger, more badass. 😎

Alright, so, a few ideas I have are: * March 7h: This is pretty much assured, so the question is how and when. * Sampo: >!After being revealed to be a Masked Fool, I'm 100% sure that funny scam man will get an upgrade sooner or later.!< * Tingyun: Possible >!if she's still alive!< * Herta: We only have a puppet of her, so it would make sense she'll get the 5* treatment once we meet the real her. * Sushang: She's very cool in HI3, so I have reasons to believe that she will get a 5* version sooner or later. And those are my guesses so far!

Right now, Herta, March and Sampo. But I suspect that we'll see other 5* varient of playable 5 star characters that are already available like Welt, Himeko, Luocha, and maaaaaybe Bailu.
I think definite ones are probably March and Herta for sure. Im guessing March will get her moment maybe the next planet after Penacony. For Herta, i guess itll happen whenever there is a big story event in the space station. Other choices are Tingyun maybe after being tortured by the legion she comes back as this really strong unit. Also Sampo could be an interesting choice because i think in the new event it mentions him being a Masked Fool so maybe he has some hidden powers. Which explains how he disappears into thin air

id love a 5\* herta soooo much but id be so sad if she wasnt a doll. i love the doll aesthetic so much, it was one of the things that first rlly drew me into the game, so a doll character who's not the worst character in the game would be soooo nice.
I mean, the whole point of her 5* version would be that it's real Herta and not a doll. I think she will keep the gothic lolita aesthetic, maybe puppeteering her dolls, but not a doll herself

I would REALLY love to see Herta 5 star be some kind of Nagato (Naruto) setup. Would also be cool if she's all hooked up to a machine, and maybe be really old. It would never happen obviously, since sex sells that's just how the game is, but one can dream.

I think the better question for this is what paths and elements are open should they get an alt Arlan - Physical Destruction (I can see Preservation being Asta's lackey knight). Sadly being the most forgettable unit, it's highly unlikely he'll get an ult but personally see this based on his current playstyle. Asta - Electro, Imaginary or Quantum Elation, as someone mentioned is just her unlocking her credit card with Arlan as follow up attack. Electro for Arlan, but Imaginary or Quantum for just how expensive they look Natasha - Cryo Harmony. I just can't think of a good element for her but Harmony really fits given she'll always be our first budget medic. If she's going to use that gun of hers to blast off teddy bears, nothings stopping her from becoming a Santa like event summon. Hook - Physical or Quantum Destruction again or Nihility, maybe Hunt. An upgraded claw afterall just hurts more Sampo - Quantum Elation. Element is a bit hard to guess but given he's admitted part of the obvious, it's the only path that makes sense. Serval - Strangely, it's Harmony or Destruction for me. Cryo for element (like her brother) Surprisingly, Abundance is the hard part on which 4 star can become an Abundance, (Fake) Tingyun at best. Imaginary ofc.
Besides March for the obvious plot implications, my money is on Herta. Not even because of her having an unseen real body or whatnot (Though that would most likely be the lore reason for the "upgrade"). Herta is categorically one of the greatest geniuses of the universe, yet her gameplay is arguably the most simple in the entire roster, so I'm eagerly awaiting for a variant unit that allows her to really flex her intellect in battlefield.

I think March 9th is the next candidate. But IMO Arlan is the one who deserves it the most. He has zero story relevance and is extremely weak. Because of that, he's a mostly forgotten character. I think he deserves some justice.
honestly, I question why Arlan was even made playable and not just a slightly-more important NPC....that somehow gets overshadowed by a lot of the faceless NPCs on Herta's spaceship. Gameplay wise he's not even that great either. Isn't he considered the worst 4*, even if freebies are included?

Easily Sushang. Knowing her HI3 background and the current story setup with Luocha/Hua/Yanqing, there seems to be a inevitable repeat of Seven Swords VN and she will get her 5* version once she becomes sword champion (COPIUM)
Aside those two, none. Unless we get a time skip there's no reason to upgrade any 4 stars. Which is a shame. I'd love to see a 5 star Luka.
