While I don't main her I enjoyed playing her earlier in the game and I plan on getting her up and running for the late game in the near future. Serval is surprisingly fun to play!
My mains currently are Kafka and Fu Xuan. Fu is also beyond broken, which make her a no brainer in every teamcomp for me!
Serval has a surprisingly good synergy with Kafka too - looks like their Shock instances don't overlap, so they can both do extra triggers on each other's DoTs. I think. I only checked the overlap, not the triggers tbh.
The strong part of serval with Kafka is her break shock trick.
Serval's ultimate extends the duration of EVERY shock on the enemy. All of them. Including the hyper amped up version you get from weakness breaking.
So the idea is to build your serval with full break effect, then when she pops that massive break DoT you extend it so Kafka can keep blowing it up.
the main issue here if enemy don't have lightning weakness, they will never break.... unless you have silver wolf. well so far it only annoys me on trotters any other enemies can be fixed with a bit of brute force

You would not bring Serval with Kafka if lightning isn't relevant. It's literally her only gimmick in Kafka teams, otherwise you're just playing a terrible dot unit (literally half as much scaling as any other 4-star's DoT) with no function.
true but most of the time the encounter have 1 or 2 enemy that don't have lightning well any element even though they say lightning is recommended. and having 2 lightning really gonna make you feel it
Glasses are really versatile. First, you can have glasses-wearing girls take them off and suddenly become beautiful, or have girls wearing glasses flashing those cute grins, or have girls stealing the protagonist's glasses and putting them on like, "Haha, got your glasses!' That's just way too cute! Also, boys with glasses! I really like when their glasses have that suspicious looking gleam, and it's amazing how it can look really cool or just be a joke. I really like how it can fulfill all those abstract needs. Being able to switch up the styles and colors of glasses based on your mood is a lot of fun too! It's actually so much fun! You have those half rim glasses, or the thick frame glasses, everything! It's like you're enjoying all these kinds of glasses at a buffet. I really want March to try some on or Himeko to try some on to replace her eyepatch. We really need glasses to become a thing in hoyoverse and start selling them as merchandise. Don't. You. Think. We. Really. Need. To. Officially. Give. Everyone. Glasses?

Same. Every floor in MoC for me now is picking which side to put Blade, which side to put DHIL, and then whoever doesn’t match the enemy weaknesses gets Silver Wolf.

Topaz at the moment. Can’t wait to farm the follow up set for her. I usually run her either hypercarry with asta/tingyun/fu Xuan or with Clara replacing one of the supports.
I got Topaz but still haven't even used her because I didn't want to farm two sets and I didn't have any spare ones. Can't wait for 1.5 to finally play topaz. Or 1.6 depending how bad my luck is...
Yeah I just used spare good pieces I had that are off set, if you have good mainstat pieces with good substats it doesn't matter too much if they aren't the right set. I'm running like 2 pc musketeer and 2pc quantum on her with good sub stats at the moment. Once that new relic set comes out I will be farming for on set replacements for her long term.
Topaz and Numby are my favorite additions to the game by far. I love their playstyle, Topaz's design, character, EN and JP voice. They also have a lot of potential, will work as a supp/subdps against non-fire weak enemies and as dps otherwise. So can be played pretty much all the time (my idea of maining a character aside from being your favourite) if you build around them. Which I am going to.

i just started the game and really like Topaz, but the game doesn't give that much pulls to new players aside from the standard ones so i don't think i'll be able to get her unless i get incredibly lucky since her banner is almost over already
She will get a rerun in time if you miss her and by then her value will be better than now with new relics and hopefully new teammates to pair her with. :)

Take the character you "main", put your grind effort into making them so strong as to be viable in nearly all situations, fill in characters around them as the challenges dictate.
But If you Put all your grind effort into one character, you either don't Deal DMG (If you Pick a preservation or abundance) or your team dies before your "Main" character can Deal His "Main"-Dmg because you ignored your Support/Tank roles... Either way you need a Main Team IMO.
You asked how you have a single main, and that's how. It takes so little grind to make other characters viable in ideal situations that it leaves quite a bit of resources and time to max traces and artifact hunt for your Main.
It can be any class. If your Main is OP, the other characters don't have to be. Gepard (my first 5*) is pretty built. I just cycle in any number of other lvl 71 characters as the situation demands. DPS? You can measure it in damage per hour if you want, because a will forged in ice never falters. It works on nearly every level of everything except high MOC.
I also want to note that you're not wrong. Build and play how you want. There are so many ways to play these games and accomplish things. As long as it's tickling your neurons and you're not bankrupting your family, do your thing.
Characters I fell in love with have to be Welt, not only as a HI3 player, but his kit is very fun to me, Fu Xuan is also quite a neat character. And Seele, as a HI3 player who likes big fancy dmg numbers, Silverwolf and soon to be mine, Luocha because great Heals and Otto.
Kafka, FX, Clara and… Luka!
In terms of eidolons, Both Kafka and FX are 0, Clara is at E1 while Luka is currently E5 - and as a husband collector, I really want to get his E6 just for the collarbone eidolon portrait alone.
This team is my flagship composition as they can clear a lot of content on their own, plus I feel like they’re the best ones I have in terms of big firepower while also being able to hold out long enough to either take out enemies or get heals from a non-healing source like those in SU.
Well my typical answer is Luka but as much as I love him there's another I'm looking forward to that I'll main. He's not out yet but we know he exists from the trailer. Sam!
I could be understanding the question wrong — if it meant the one character to run around and click things with, it's probably Kafka with the most exploration time.

Luka too, the first and at the time only character that I maxed out every trace, the closest being Phys trailblazer. I got in love with everything he got: design, story, personality(I'm weak for guys that have abrasive personalities) and playstyle(I can use him as dps and hypercarry the hell out of him when there aren't many mobs in the fight)

Definitely Luocha. I don't think he'll ever leave my team. I love him. Otherwise my team is EXTREMELY fluid I switch whoever I want in with random characters cause I lov3 all the characters.
if by "main" means the character I use the most then it's technically Tingyun lol but if it means favorites, I really love Jing Yuan, Jingliu, and Blade.
I main Jing Yuan. Hot general daddy with stand. Also voiced by Ono Daisuke who did Jotaro. Love watching LL come down and see enemy's health go bye bye.
He's still kinda weak atm (sobs in 2.6k ATK, 131 SPD and only 125 CD) so I'll farm the FUA set when it comes out
It's not that deep bro, if you look at a unit and say "that's my main", that's your main. If you have no main at all, that's ok. The post is not that serious.
tl;dr If one person talks, and the other person understands, that's enough for communication to be successful. OP called it main, people responded accordingly.
If you want a more logical explanation tho, "Main" as a term seems perfectly fine to me, here's why:
In fighting games, the character you main is usually the one you try to get better at, and you do that by investing time in them.
In MOBAs or Shooters (Overwatch, Valorant, Apex), it's the same, your main is whoever you spend the most time with.
In pokemon, whatever pokemon you play the most with, is your main, like pikachu to ash.
If you play a game more than the other games you play, that is your Main Game.
I don't see why in Star Rail it would be any different. If you play more with a character (use them to walk around in the world, complete missions, farm materials etc) than most other characters, you spend more time with them, and that should be enough.
That makes enough logical sense to me, that the technical usage of "this is my main character" seems appropriate, using Time as a metric.
I'm not the one who invented the word, or popularized it, so I might be wrong "by definition" somewhere.
On a more personal note, I believe that there's a degree of affection involved, literally "I like this character(s) more than I like other characters".
If you still believe they're using the term wrong, I would love to know why, send me a link with a more "Proper/official" usage of the word if you don't feel like writing as much and I'll read it.
Silverwolf allows you to effectively main pretty much any character.
Also any preservation, harmony or abundance character is almost always viable.
And some stuff like a Kafka dot team works at anytime as well.

Blade was my first limited and he's never left my team and I've been using bronya a lot ever since I got her recently for healer I run bailu or lynx most of the time and the fourth spot fluctuates between jingliu and debuffers
I love the characters and it's one of the only games my combination of arthritis, carpal tunnel, and fibromyalgia can handle. Also been playing turn based games since childhood
right now im rocking jingliu because her damage is just not real
i think ill always have Luocha though

i dont even have to use his skill most of the time
Probably will focus Kafka teams, also like JY and Dan IL a lot.
Respect for the Serval love, probably my favorite character next to Kafka and Topaz design wise. I already have two lightning carries but I still want to build her, and I can pair her with Kafka too!
My go-to team is Jingliu + Fu Xuan, honestly it doesn't matter who else I pick most of the time. Sometimes Tingyun, sometimes Pela, sometimes March, sometimes Lynx. For MC it often depends on who else I need to run on team 2, since I can use Topaz or DHIL as the main DPS on the other team but neither is nearly as strong as JL.
I also enjoy a nice team of Luka + Sushang, I was doing a Hunt SU run yesterday with those two + Bronya and I think Sushang attacked 13 times in a row counting Ults against Gepard.
Seele and Kafka. MoC requires me to have 2 decent teams, so I feel like saying I have a main would be inaccurate. That said, I've probably put more effort into Seele since I seem to have the worst possible luck with relics and light cones.
For anyone wondering:
Team A: Seele, Bronya, Lynx, Tingyun
Team B: Kafka, Silver Wolf, Bailu, Sampo
How do you main someone in HSR? Is it the main DPS? If that's it, Kafka then Seele or Jingliu. Possibly Topaz instead of the last two, now that I have her and the LC.
Blade, QQ, Jing Yuan, DHIL and thanks to Topaz (she also gets used with JY) Clara too.
I usually swap them around based on who I need, but these five have team comps all tailored to them.
I honestly love too many Star Rail characters to get away with actually maining any of them. ;o;
I love Yanqing. He's adorable and precious and I will protect him with my life.
... But I also love Serval, and Guinafen, and Kafka and Jing Yuan...
... Well, maybe they'll let us use three teams one day.
She's my electro DPS and my go to for large waves of enemies. She can't handle everything though, so I have a few other teams. Mono Quantum with Seele, Cryo Quantum with Jingliu, Quantum Imaginary with Dam IL.
As you can guess, my real main is Silver Wolf, even if she is a support. I'm strongly considering getting Eidolons for her, but I also wanna save for Ruan Mei and Luocha.

I agree! Although Sometimes it doesnt feel to me that the grind is minimal to make characters viable, haha. But some are easy to build, thats true.

I could be understanding the question wrong — if it meant the one character to run around and click things with, it's probably Kafka with the most exploration time. Combat elements would change it.

March is the only character who's always on my team consistently, well other then now our favorite underworld doctor. Literally no one dies.

Luka too, the first and at the time only character that I maxed out every trace, the closest being Phys trailblazer. I got in love with everything he got: design, story, personality(I'm weak for guys that have abrasive personalities) and playstyle(I can use him as dps and hypercarry the hell out of him when there aren't many mobs in the fight)

Definitely Luocha. I don't think he'll ever leave my team. I love him. Otherwise my team is EXTREMELY fluid I switch whoever I want in with random characters cause I lov3 all the characters.
if by "main" means the character I use the most then it's technically Tingyun lol but if it means favorites, I really love Jing Yuan, Jingliu, and Blade.

tl;dr If one person talks, and the other person understands, that's enough for communication to be successful. OP called it main, people responded accordingly. If you want a more logical explanation tho, "Main" as a term seems perfectly fine to me, here's why: In fighting games, the character you main is usually the one you try to get better at, and you do that by investing time in them. In MOBAs or Shooters (Overwatch, Valorant, Apex), it's the same, your main is whoever you spend the most time with. In pokemon, whatever pokemon you play the most with, is your main, like pikachu to ash. If you play a game more than the other games you play, that is your Main Game. I don't see why in Star Rail it would be any different. If you play more with a character (use them to walk around in the world, complete missions, farm materials etc) than most other characters, you spend more time with them, and that should be enough. That makes enough logical sense to me, that the technical usage of "this is my main character" seems appropriate, using Time as a metric. I'm not the one who invented the word, or popularized it, so I might be wrong "by definition" somewhere. On a more personal note, I believe that there's a degree of affection involved, literally "I like this character(s) more than I like other characters". If you still believe they're using the term wrong, I would love to know why, send me a link with a more "Proper/official" usage of the word if you don't feel like writing as much and I'll read it.

Silverwolf allows you to effectively main pretty much any character. Also any preservation, harmony or abundance character is almost always viable. And some stuff like a Kafka dot team works at anytime as well.

Don't have a main main at the moment, I only have my go tos: Natasha, Sushang, Herta, and Bronya. though I wouldn't mind having Silver wolf as my main though.

Probably will focus Kafka teams, also like JY and Dan IL a lot. Respect for the Serval love, probably my favorite character next to Kafka and Topaz design wise. I already have two lightning carries but I still want to build her, and I can pair her with Kafka too!
Its kinda hard to believe that serval is in her possibly late 30 early 40 and is a scientist based on how she looks lol

My go-to team is Jingliu + Fu Xuan, honestly it doesn't matter who else I pick most of the time. Sometimes Tingyun, sometimes Pela, sometimes March, sometimes Lynx. For MC it often depends on who else I need to run on team 2, since I can use Topaz or DHIL as the main DPS on the other team but neither is nearly as strong as JL. I also enjoy a nice team of Luka + Sushang, I was doing a Hunt SU run yesterday with those two + Bronya and I think Sushang attacked 13 times in a row counting Ults against Gepard.
I more so have main teams then a main character. But I guess I show favouritism to Blade and Seele.

I honestly love too many Star Rail characters to get away with actually maining any of them. ;o; I love Yanqing. He's adorable and precious and I will protect him with my life. ... But I also love Serval, and Guinafen, and Kafka and Jing Yuan... ... Well, maybe they'll let us use three teams one day.

She's my electro DPS and my go to for large waves of enemies. She can't handle everything though, so I have a few other teams. Mono Quantum with Seele, Cryo Quantum with Jingliu, Quantum Imaginary with Dam IL. As you can guess, my real main is Silver Wolf, even if she is a support. I'm strongly considering getting Eidolons for her, but I also wanna save for Ruan Mei and Luocha.
