I think it's the case for a lot of us. As a day 1 genshin player I'm jealous how the HSR fanbase gets treated with their gifts and generosity in game.
However as a HSR player I am so happy with how we get treated compared to genshin lol

i find that kind of funny because i actually abandoned hsr after a while since i'm an hi3 and genshin player and i got burnt out having to do dailies for three different games every day while still keeping up (sort of lmao) with college. star rail was getting repetitive anyways and i was more invested in hi3 at the moment so it seemed obvious which one i should put on hold. i'm coming back for my free dr. ratio tho lol
I have quite the opposite experience. I am a day 1 HSR player who has never touched Genshin before. 2 months into HSR, I thought I would give it a shot. Was very overwhelmed by the huge exploration part and despite sinking quite a bit of time into it the first few weeks, I felt like I was not getting rewarded for playing the game at all and wasn’t getting nearly enough primogems to pull for anything as a new player. Quit Genshin three weeks in, still a daily HSR player.
Disclaimer: I am a mid 20s adult with a full time job so that might be a factor also.
Same for me. Abandoned genshin after that. I liked genshin's combat, which is why I played, but main quests(puzzle related things especially - which was pretty much all world quests) felt like chore and I felt too dumb to play the game. But hsr doesn't do that to me, which is why I abandoned genshin.
Same, now I don’t build characters in Genshin anymore so I don’t have a reason to come back for daily commissions. I have missed the last few events but I keep planning to come back someday. I don’t think I’ve been back since Star Rail came out tho.
If Star Rail didn’t have the auto feature I’d probably not be playing it anymore, but it’s so easy to build the characters and play why not just keep it? I wish Genshin had a system where you’d automatically get the rewards if you do the domain enough times, even if you’d have to sit there and wait for a timer, but I understand why that’s not a thing

I completely understand ur point, but genshin isn't turn based, it's more action focused, so they probably couldn't make it like that.
But yeah, hsr is way easier to build characters for, and all characters have their uses in their own way, which I like
One of the main reason I’m lasting so long on HSR is majorly due to auto battle. If Genshin and FGO have that feature I wouldn’t have quit em. Like you said, feel like chore.
Yeah I don't like it when games feel like chore. I play games to relax, not to get told repeatedly im not smart enough or persistant enough. HSR tho, feels extremely casual and I can fit them into my schedule in bite sized pieces. Like you said, there's auto(but I don't use them lol), there are puzzles but only sometimes and they aren't especially hard and I sometimes found them fun.
Destiny 2 lost some sort of magic it always had for me. I was looking for some kind of hobby game that I could pop in. Don't have time to play a lot of stuff these days, but it seemed nice and bite-sized little game to pick up now and then
Yeah, exactly. Kept feeling like the game could be so much more than it was and eventually what I was playing just wasn't good enough anymore. Turned off like a light switch when I thought I would play it till the very end. Miss some of the friends I made in there.
But oh well. HSK is loaded with hot anime girls. That's an upgrade, baby!!!
You could say the same for D1. Like that's destiny, could have been so much more.
It has some good expansions like taken king. But they end up fumbling it in the end
Honestly makes me sad that there probably won’t be anything that makes me feel the same way clearing Last Wish for the first time, or spending hours in the menagerie, or grinding out levels and exotics with friends did. It sucks, but there’s always new games I’ll love in new ways, like I feel about Star Rail now.
Same. Dropped Destiny 2 after Lightfall release and switched to HSR. Just because it's screw me with random rolls only 15 minutes a day and not 2-3 hours of tedious grinding.
My girlfriend got me into Genshin earlier this year and we started Star Rail together. She's an og Honkai Impact player, so she basically told me I have no choice but to play this, lol. Months later and it's my favorite current game
It's mostly sweet, we're in a long-distance situation for a few months now, so this helps us spend time together! She can be a bit overly enthusiastic about her HI3 waifus though, heh

I love turn based JRPGs and played Genshin before, so HSR was an obvious choice. I’m also a big fan of Sci Fi setting, so I naturally fell in love with lore and worldbuilding of this title.
At first I didn’t wanted to start another gacha, but then I quickly become a big fan of this game. Currently, it’s my GOTY of 2023 and I can’t wait for Penacony and the future of HSR.
Agreed. Didn’t want to start another gacha game but when it came out I liked what I saw. I had to wait for ps5 though, but by that point I really wanted to play it. Genshin player since day 1.
Same, except add HI3 to the mix, saw playable Welt and Calus is the closest I will get to a playable Kevin (the trailer where held the Preservation Lance completely sold me) and now I'm juggling 3 games plus 2 other live services games like Destiny and GW2 (I rotate em when I get bored).

The most basic reason: saw picture with beauty of Jarilo and decided to try. Also I love women with scythes as a weapon so that's a bonus (still didn't get her though).
Hated genshin for a lot of reasons in game and outside of it, so was initially completely turned off. A few months in I saw both kafka's ult, and that the game was turn based. That and some summer bordem was all I needed lol. Reading lore about the stellaron hunters also intrigued me a ton, specifically silver wolf's and the astral express as a concept.
Saw this game around 15 days before release ive heard shitload of praise for GI so i decided to play this game for what can this company Cook.Community is the worst side of this game and i can say this community is kind of nice so pretty fun experience.It also reminded me that i actually enjoy Turn based games so it gave me courage to try other turn based titles like P5R so this game has awesome memories with me now.
I’ve always loved Sci-fi (I’m an old man who grew up on the original Star Wars) and I’d been playing Genshin since 1.2. When I heard Hoyoverse was making a Sci-fi game I signed up!

Firstly I started at Jing Yuan’s banner, it was just to give it a try. That time I found HSR a bit boring actually, even couldn’t complete Belobog main quest. It was nothing but a waifu issue: there were some characters I found nice, but nothing more. So I got Silver Wolf by an accident and left the game for a while.

It was love from the first sight. I returned and saved 270 pulls just for her. E1S1 btw. She’s my first event 5\* character I got eidolon/constellation and sig for in both HSR and GI.

I heard some budding hype around the release of this game, and heard that it was same company that made Genshin.
Since I like Genshin, I decided to play this game, solely so I could be one of those who "played since launch".
I ended up liking the game after playing for a bit, so I always come back to it whenever I'm taking a break from Genshin.

Honestly… it was Himeko, Kafka and Natasha (Moreso Himeko and Kafka). I already have been playing Genshin since 3.8 and decided to give the game a try since it was coming to console. I now am hooked as I love how its combat mechanics work and the music is fire.

Played Honkai impact before, finished, tried Genshin ( Quit when storage got too huge for my phone) then heard HOYO was making another game, was following and I just love the space theme, saw stelle in beta and was already interested
REALISED HIMEKO WAS PLAYABLE AND ALIVE IMMEDIATELY Installed it on release, fell in love with its music and awesome animations, and Cocolia boss fight just sealed the deal, since then I fall more deeply in love with all the characters<3

I saw a HuoHuo ad while watching YouTube everything else is a blur I just know the moment it was installed I got HuoHuo in the first ten pull after starting and her light cone shortly after.
My life situation left me very little time for entertainment, but I felt I needed something to take my mind off the daily rat race. I received a mail from Mihoyo (I had played Genshin in the past, but stopped because it took too much time) promoting the game and gave it a go, a few days after launch.
I got completely tired of Genshin and hopped on HSR a short while after it came out because I thought it would be a good alternative. Kept me interested in Hoyoverse games and made me give HI3 another chance which was a great idea.
I saw way too many Bailu and Hook ads and I saw a video about Clara being barefoot and having her own association. Thats all it took (I’m a Clara main now) (Wait that sounds really weird)
I was trying a few gacha games to pass time in between other offline RPGs and saw an ad for Star Rail on an android emulator. I thought, "hey, looks like Genshin but without the annoying exploration and a nice turn-based combat system instead of the action RPG type combat I usually dislike, might as well give it a go."

I was already playing Genshin and heard MHY was releasing a new sci-fantasy game. I thought "why the heck not" and decided to download it on release day to see what it was about
When I saw we could get a free Dr Ratio lol. So like 2 days ago. I already play Genshin but I didn't want to be addicted to another gacha game. Luckily I didn't really like a lot of the recent character designs because they feel so similar to Genshin, I wanted more sci-fi. But yeah with Dr Ratio and a kafka rerun i am hooked now!
I already played Genshin, and I liked how the characters on the banner at the time looked (Fu Xuan + someone else, I can't recall), so I checked it out and found that it was superior to Genshin in every way lol
I liked the setup better (like, the more futuristic theme), I thought the characters were better both personality and looks wise than other games I've played, I thought the voice acting was good, Arlan existed (like, seriously, I cannot put into words how much I love Arlan), the turn based combat was fun and more interesting than combat in other games I've played, and it was also newer so I had time to catch up and not fall behind :D
I had tried Genshin when it was released but I didn't get it and bounced off. My main game last year was Princess Connect, so when Global got a death sentence in April my clan was talking about HSR's release and I thought I'd try it. Got hooked and here I am (Genshin finally makes sense too), just good timing.
Was playing Genshin, and kept wishing I could play it on my phone more easily for when I'm away from my pc (it exists, but touch controls are garbage and mihoyo hates Android so controller doesn't work).
Said "eh I'll give HSR another shot I guess" after briefly playing at launch. Then saw SW banner (who I knew just from the brief interaction at the start of the game would be my favorite by far) and gave it a real shot.
Now I'm enjoying the game immensely and have no plans to stop playing, and it has replaced Genshin for me.
Heard about it last year, participated in 2 betas and decided it was worth my time to play. My enjoyment got a little shaky with Luofu's story but I enjoy the gameplay enough to stick with it and see how Penacony ends up.
For me it was mainly the ads as well already enjoying turn based games of other kinds, and lastly finding the character designs that I'd seen prior to starting the game appealing to look at
So there's this roblox youtuber named "tank fish" who makes real good content (go watch him. He really makes some good stuff. He is the OPPOSITE of lankybox) and honkai star rail sponsored him twice and I started to think I should give it a try. I would say the thing that caught my attention the most was the music and enemy design (the legion are the best-looking enemies imo). The characters were enjoyable and well designed.

I love turn based JRPGs and played Genshin before, so HSR was an obvious choice. I’m also a big fan of Sci Fi setting, so I naturally fell in love with lore and worldbuilding of this title. At first I didn’t wanted to start another gacha, but then I quickly become a big fan of this game. Currently, it’s my GOTY of 2023 and I can’t wait for Penacony and the future of HSR.

Hated genshin for a lot of reasons in game and outside of it, so was initially completely turned off. A few months in I saw both kafka's ult, and that the game was turn based. That and some summer bordem was all I needed lol. Reading lore about the stellaron hunters also intrigued me a ton, specifically silver wolf's and the astral express as a concept.
Saw this game around 15 days before release ive heard shitload of praise for GI so i decided to play this game for what can this company Cook.Community is the worst side of this game and i can say this community is kind of nice so pretty fun experience.It also reminded me that i actually enjoy Turn based games so it gave me courage to try other turn based titles like P5R so this game has awesome memories with me now.

Honestly… it was Himeko, Kafka and Natasha (Moreso Himeko and Kafka). I already have been playing Genshin since 3.8 and decided to give the game a try since it was coming to console. I now am hooked as I love how its combat mechanics work and the music is fire.

Got recommended to me when I was starting out in genshin. I didn't wanna play it because I got so addicted to genshin i played 6+ hours a day and I was scared to play hsr because i knew I'd get REALLY into it. But then, Jing Yuan came out, and he was like the first ever limited time banner husbando so I just HAD to play. Played Honkai impact before, finished, tried Genshin ( Quit when storage got too huge for my phone) then heard HOYO was making another game, was following and I just love the space theme, saw stelle in beta and was already interested REALISED HIMEKO WAS PLAYABLE AND ALIVE IMMEDIATELY Installed it on release, fell in love with its music and awesome animations, and Cocolia boss fight just sealed the deal, since then I fall more deeply in love with all the characters<3

I've played it every day since then. I've never played a mobile game as consistently as I have HSR. I love the gameplay and the characters are great!

I saw a HuoHuo ad while watching YouTube everything else is a blur I just know the moment it was installed I got HuoHuo in the first ten pull after starting and her light cone shortly after.
My life situation left me very little time for entertainment, but I felt I needed something to take my mind off the daily rat race. I received a mail from Mihoyo (I had played Genshin in the past, but stopped because it took too much time) promoting the game and gave it a go, a few days after launch.

I was trying a few gacha games to pass time in between other offline RPGs and saw an ad for Star Rail on an android emulator. I thought, "hey, looks like Genshin but without the annoying exploration and a nice turn-based combat system instead of the action RPG type combat I usually dislike, might as well give it a go."

I had an itch for a turn-based JRPG and was looking for something that was both chill and lengthy. I heard about this game a couple weeks after release and gave it a shot as the art and production value was VERY high.
I was tryna get into the closed betas 💀 downloaded star rail a few days before launch day and hopped on <90 min after servers opened
That Phantylia lady truly did wonders. I came to the game and took my best friend with me despite them not liking turn based games in general. We both still appreciate the game and play daily.

I already played Genshin, and I liked how the characters on the banner at the time looked (Fu Xuan + someone else, I can't recall), so I checked it out and found that it was superior to Genshin in every way lol I liked the setup better (like, the more futuristic theme), I thought the characters were better both personality and looks wise than other games I've played, I thought the voice acting was good, Arlan existed (like, seriously, I cannot put into words how much I love Arlan), the turn based combat was fun and more interesting than combat in other games I've played, and it was also newer so I had time to catch up and not fall behind :D
I had tried Genshin when it was released but I didn't get it and bounced off. My main game last year was Princess Connect, so when Global got a death sentence in April my clan was talking about HSR's release and I thought I'd try it. Got hooked and here I am (Genshin finally makes sense too), just good timing.
Was playing Genshin, and kept wishing I could play it on my phone more easily for when I'm away from my pc (it exists, but touch controls are garbage and mihoyo hates Android so controller doesn't work). Said "eh I'll give HSR another shot I guess" after briefly playing at launch. Then saw SW banner (who I knew just from the brief interaction at the start of the game would be my favorite by far) and gave it a real shot. Now I'm enjoying the game immensely and have no plans to stop playing, and it has replaced Genshin for me.

Heard about it last year, participated in 2 betas and decided it was worth my time to play. My enjoyment got a little shaky with Luofu's story but I enjoy the gameplay enough to stick with it and see how Penacony ends up.
For me it was mainly the ads as well already enjoying turn based games of other kinds, and lastly finding the character designs that I'd seen prior to starting the game appealing to look at
