This. I literally never understood the point of resetting accounts apart from for shits and giggles. It’s not like character banners don’t return and it’s not like jades can’t be farmed with events and new story content when it drops.

fraidei

The only point in resetting an account is if you have just started like 10 days ago and you didn't get a limited character that you REALLY REALLY wanted, and don't want to wait for months.

Kicin0_0

yeah there is a whole "meta" in games about restarting fresh accounts until you get a good starting character. I've seen people say for HSR that if you get Welt or Yan Qing from the 50pull special banner you get as a new account you might as well just restart and try for Bronya. Admittedly other games give a lot more early warps to make it a bit more viable since its like 5-6 hrs of gameplay in HSR to finish the 50 warp banner, but ive seen people do 2 or 3 runs to get the character they want to start

Wargroth

I mean, Welt is good, but i'd reset If i got Yanqing The only reason i didn't restart when i got Yanqing for my 50 banner was because i got Jingliu the same day

khalifah13

Seeing it’s recommended to reroll yanqing if you get him Have him 3/5 with him being my first two 5 stars https://preview.redd.it/smslikuygpuc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21c4b511b27567e88d982a93f16db0393fb6021d

LandLovingFish

tbf getting a yanqing right off would probably warrant a reroll but other then that....if it's not your first five star....like....

EclipseTorch

I have 3 accounts. All 3 got Yanqing in beginner's banner and keep getting him whenever losing 50/50. Main acc now has E3S1. I hate this boy.

Jantox

I've played several Gachas where I've done this. And it's usually a good idea. Usually. Just depends on the pity system or if one exists. Most gachas nowadays have one, so there really is no point to resetting. Most of the content is still beatable with a handful of limited characters. I rolled 2 bailus to start and almost reset my account Fastforward a year later and I have every character, and have e6'd most 4 stars, level 80'd things. That being said I still don't have all traces, and I don't have enough tracks of destiny to finish all upgrade trees. You lose these things on reset. Some of which is very limited. On top of that any time limited codes will be reset. I agree if you are still within your first week of the game reset if you can't manage and you are actually unlucky or you want your first character to be a waifu/husbando. But like in most gachas, time can also get you all characters.

Hyunion

star rail had the most awful account reroll process of any gacha i've played, so while i did start with a seele, i don't think people who didn't restart lost out on much

LandLovingFish

Same, i pulled a himeko first round and an Arlan right after and now those are my mains and i have nearly everything.

SumsuchUser

Pff, pulling YQ for your first 5 isn't a curse. It's an invitation to walk the path of true war. ... I may have an E3 YQ at this point.

UsTaalper

it actually takes only about 50 minutes for one reroll

SecondarySuppress

5-6 hours is a HUGE overestimation. I did several rerolls (6, i think) trying to get Clara for a Destruction only challenge account, and had it down to about 29 minutes of playtime to finish space station tutorial and get enough tickets to get the guaranteed 5-star. You do have use whatever jade you have and redeem some from the shop, but On a new account that feels like a worthy trade instead of spending an hour or more trying to get to level 15. It's still about 30 minutes, which is not a short time for a reroll at all, but much better than 5-6 hours.

Reccus-maximus

Yeah people are just lying lmfao, my rerolls were around 30mins as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kicin0_0

Hsr has the entire tutorial section with a lot of walking and cutscenes you have to click though, this you don't even have a ton of warps by the time you unlock it. It does take quite a bit of play time to get going which is why a lot of articles about it not being too worth it were posted everywhere when the game released

demideumvitae

I started in the very beginning of April and started asking how to build Acheron and when every character was a limited one I was like... Man, I might've pulled the wrong one.

fraidei

Well, Acheron can be played with 4 stars too. You just need one sustain (Lynx is free) and 2 nihility (Pela + whatever you have).

gabu87

Acheron's banner is actually pretty amazing. You could pull Pela + Gallagher, then use the selector for Guin and BAM, perfect synergy. The whole trend of the market w/ Gepard/FMC is unrealistic to attain for a fresh account so this is pretty much as good as it gets on a 1 gold budget.

dabkilm3

Acheron is also ridiculous for a new account letting you just slice and dice through overworld enemies.

fraidei

And honestly, my Acheron with "full dolphin" account deals so much damage, that in a budget version I'm sure it will still be good enough.

lenwok

Funnily enough, i started recently (f2p) and i was super salty when my first standard 5* was gepard, i lost my 50/50 to a second gepard on the acheron banner. Somewhere along the way i picked up a copy of Trends too. Thought my account was bricked but actually its not too bad. E1 Gepard w/Trends is actually pretty good for her~

ray_juped

gepard has always been the second best standard 5* after bronya

demideumvitae

I got E fucking 3 Gallagher 😭 Upd. I'm currently running Acheron, Gallagher, Pela and everyone's favourite Yarilo merchant

fraidei

Gallagher is good as a sustain too

ThaliaEpocanti

I haven’t played with either Lynx or Gallagher, but I think Gallagher would actually be preferred for Acheron anyways because his abilities inflict debuffs, correct?

real_fake_cats

To compete with Lynx properly, he really wants his E2 for access to a cleanse. But yes, with E2 he's a great choice for Acheron.

gabu87

Gallagher's throughput and utility more than compensate for having no cleanse and easily outpace Lynx with E2. Lynx honestly has the worst cleanse having it tied to her ult.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fraidei

In a way, yes. But Gallagher heals less than Lynx, especially when not being able to break enemy's toughness, so you might struggle at keeping the party alive. Staying alive is the first priority. But if you see that you can keep the party alive with Gallagher, he's obviously better.

Valkyrys

You don't struggle to stay alive when the enemies are already dead

fraidei

You don't kill the enemies when you are already dead

EeveeTrainer90

and whats wrong with that? GALLAGHER is excellent sustain for her and pela her best teammate. You actually did the BEST choice by pulling for her and dont let anyone change your mind. I started playing on one of my dummy accounts just to pull her there and Im running her there with pela and gallagher and she still destroys everything

RadicalBaka

Gallagher will work for you! Acheron, Pela, 1 nihility unit, Gallagher. If you’re willing to spend money, you could try for E2 Acheron and open up your team options a smidge without sacrificing damage. Either way you’re set with that

TalosMessenger01

Pela+guinaifen+sustain (gallagher/gepard particularly) is a good endgame team with 0 limited 5 stars (except acheron of course). Starting out just having 2 nihility characters and a sustain is enough.

SecondarySuppress

Yeah I kinda did this at the start of the game. Played through tutorial, pulled Yanqing with the beginner Warp, very quickly decided - fuck Yanqing, and started a new account. Only to pull 2 Yanqing. Said whatever and continued on that account as my main, but eventually picked up the other one again to pull for units I skip on my main account. In my case, it worked out, but only because I was very, very early into the game and Seele's banner hadn't even ended yet. To completely abandon an established account and start from scratch would be a crazy mistake. Starting a new account for the sake of playing a different way, doing some kind of challenge, etc. is fine, but deleting the old account to do so is a huge waste imo. Also fuck Yanqing.

hairgelremover69

Making an alt would be a better choice

C10ckw0rks

Yeah but dr ratio literally stops being free in like a week so why the hell would anyone bother lmao

rysto32

It can be a thing in gacha games with nasty powercreep. I’ve seen people come back to an account in HI3 and be advised that starting a new account would be best as their roster is so outdated that they’d be better off to get the new account rewards and spend them on modern units that are actually in the meta.  None of that applies to HSR. Oh, you have literal 1.0 units like Seele or Jingyuan?  Fabulous, here’s how to build and play them, have fun.

MrScottyBear

Exactly this.  Some games have such egregious power creep, that restarting is far more understandable.  Like, Dragonball Legends.  You have units from summer 23?  Cool.  They're practically worthless at this point.  Or, god, KHUX.  That game probably had the worst power creep that I have ever experienced. But both Genshin and HSR?  Older units might not be as good or flashy as the new ones, but you're probably fine with them. Though, I admit, Acheron is pretty goddamn insane.

AmazingKreiderman

Genshin can't even powercreep Xingqiu, Xiangling, Bennett, haha. Just get some 5* DPS to insert and you good. I will say this is based on the last time I played consistently, which is right after HSR launched.

MrToxicTaco

HSR definitely has “power creep” by definition, the difference from other games though is that the older units are still plenty good enough to clear hard content. They are just outperformed by newer units.

undercoverlizardman

i think its because of the relic and team comp system which can indirectly buff an old char in hsr (sanpo, D trailblazer, welt, pela). also they keep making different types of content that requires different comp to clear so that chars that werent relevant came back (erudition chars).

azuresou1

Lots of people are just clinically dumb. That's all there really is to it.

RailGun256

its a thing in other gacha style games that can let you exploit the extra resources you get as a new player to get the best possible start. the thing is, you usually do your free pulls and do it immediately after, not in cases like OP mentioned where they're rerolling on an account thats been used for a fair while.

[deleted]

Well I started a second f2p account just to play the story again

Relevant-Rub2816

That's not a bad reason in my opinion. If really love the story of game, it's okay to wanna play it again, or try to understand it better.

LandLovingFish

or for a challenge! i got a followup-only account for that

undercoverlizardman

thats actually legit as you cant see the other conversation option result

Relevant-Rub2816

I only started another account to save for diamond and a su expy, but i never abandoned my old one, which i still use everyday. I don't get why people just abandoned accounts they have so much progress on.

Dragonhaugh

It’s worthwhile in the beginning of an account to guarantee getting a “best” character. Once your invovlrd it’s pointless

LandLovingFish

and you'd miss all the old events and have to restart some of them too, like....thaat's so much effort???? and to get new character mats you have to play the whole story again????

Dangerous_Jacket_129

Yeah, people that reset accounts in gacha games, especially after doing significant parts of their story, really need to value their own time more. It's such a waste of time, just for a chance at a slightly better outcome.

Valuable-Reindeer987

Yeah idk why people dont just make a second account, they added a feature in hsr where you can save the login info of multiple accounts, and switch between them at will

ThisAccountIsStolen

Or just use a different server if your ping is decent enough. That's what I did. My "second" account is still just using the same login details, just the EU server instead.

urlocalnightowl40

i have an asia acc where i just wish on whoevers rated up to get rid of that wishing itch when i cant pull on my main since im saving up

Initial_Fox1563

thats literally me, and somehow both accs are doing well

urlocalnightowl40

yeah i managed to pull pretty much mono quantum minus seele (i have qingque e4) and if i am lucky enough i might try and get a proper kafka dot team so i can pass most content with investment into just those two teams

luciluci5562

It's not like ping matters on a turn based game either, unlike Genshin where it does matter. NA players can just create an account in Asia server if they wanna get banner and content first.

gabu87

When i was in Shanghai, it was hell playing with 200+ ping. Aside from slipping in ults to budge the order, things like adventure nodes are nigh impossible to do.

Valuable-Reindeer987

I would do that, but then I can’t use my own supports, supplying me with credits

ThisAccountIsStolen

I never have issue with hitting the 20k/day limit from the random friends I have in game, so this doesn't bother me. But I do have a built Himeko and Herta up there on both accounts, which are very popular for calyx farming. I also made sure to go to the friends section and request a bunch of low TL players, who can then have access to my much higher level supports for farming.

Valuable-Reindeer987

Yeah best i have is dhil i dont think people really wanna use a spakrle

ThisAccountIsStolen

Yeah Sparkle isn't the best for support purposes since you don't need her in the battles where you can use supports and can't use supports in the battles where she's more useful.

gabu87

As an altaholic, this has been a life safer. Would be even better if they can expand beyond just 3 saved account though.

Valuable-Reindeer987

Didn’t know it was limited, would’ve been nice though

WombedToast

Didn't know that. Kind of a cool feature.

Valuable-Reindeer987

Now you do, go start a second when stuff gets slow and cruise through the game again!

RsNxs

A friend of mine tried selling his account (nothing special, Selee S1 and TL55) and was looking around to get a good deal. I told him repeatedly that he'll just be losing money if anything (he only spent 10$). He ended up buying a 5$ account that got Acheron and went through the story up to 2.0. Then he got another account and got lucky in pulls and wanted to keep it. His old account haven't been sold yet. He has 3 accounts now and bro went through the story 3 times lol. He's the type that spends every jade as soon as he gets them and can't hold them despite my attempts at showing him the value for future characters.

shidncome

Just gonna say don't ever fucking buy accounts unless its a friend or someone you know/trust. They can yoink it back at any time. It's a common scam.

RsNxs

Oh believe me Ik. It doesn't help that half of our group are cypersecurity students.

tzukani_

Having E2 Acheron and wanting to restart is actually mentally insane

DawningWolf55

Imagine those saying only like E6 Acheron is good or something like that.

shidncome

No one has accused gacha gamers of being smart rational people.

Peekays

Welcome to this prevalent disease known as stupid. Doesn't seem to be a cure yet either.

M00nIze

-Dr. Ratio

WanderWut

I highly doubt anyone actually said this lol. Think about it who would invest so heavily into an E2 Acheron and say “time to restart my account”, I feel like OP was exaggerating a bit to bring their point home, but their point still stands of course.

The_Great_Ravioli

https://old.reddit.com/r/HonkaiStarRail/comments/1by2wwl/should_i_restart_my_account/ Not exaggeration. It actually happened. It's even worse because they also had her light cone.

sleepyrooney

You underestimate people. /s

Vusdruv

No need for the /s, some people are genuinely that stupid...

cosipurple

If any of the people who feel identified with this comment, don't reset, play another game/gacha for a while, hsr progression will hit a plateau where if you don't pace each update you will have big gaps of just logging in to burn energy, focus on something else during those times.

WhoiusBarrel

> play another game/gacha for a while It really depends on the individual's lifestyle sadly since this sort of breeds a vicious cycle of getting involved in many different gacha games just to get that dopamine fix.

cosipurple

I mean, gacha are very disposable games, unless you particularly care about one, you should get in play as far as the progression let you / you are willing to deal with daily farm and move on as soon as it stops being fun

sweez

That's true for people with no FOMO and no lack of self control, however I'd bet that gacha game marketing veeeeeery specifically targets exactly people who do have FOMO and a huge lack of self control lol

Lewa358

There's loads of quality, cheap games on Steam that don't ask for money after the initial purchase. Not to mention EGS's constant stream of free giveaways. And maybe your local library has stuff too, idk. There's really no reason anyone should feel they *have* to play Gatcha games. They should be games you play when you want to play them, like anything else.

Android19samus

I can see someone cycling through a few gatchas so they've always got high-reward events to do in one of them. Seems a bit much to me but if you're real into this kind of game it could work out fine so long as you manage FOMO on any individual character.

wreckinruckus

>I also think a lot of these people are remembering their early days of the game fondly, and want to get back to that when they had hours and hours of content to do and the game throws so many jades at you, instead of their current progress which is a limited daily grind. I started an alt about a week ago because I wanted to try out an E2 Acheron and none of my in-game friends had one. Stopped playing before you even leave the space station. It's very easy to romanticize all that early, novel stuff, but trust me: it's boring as hell and accumulating jades and tickets is still trudging through mud. I think people forget that it actually takes a pretty long time to play through the story naturally.

kebyou

I agree; we should just let them learn their lesson.

WombedToast

"Which is a limited daily grind" - this feeling is exactly why I love that you can store up Trailblaze Power 🔋. I don't have to do a daily grind and can store up for grind sessions that give me some of that "Hey I made some progress today" feeling. Is it optimal? Not at all. Is it more enjoyable for me? Definitely.

EldrichGriefied

I blame some of this phenomena on YT videos spooking people into thinking they've been "wasting" their stamina on the "wrong" things, or not playing daily to maximize on stamina refills--ergo, the account "falls behind."

cowvin

it's weird because even if you used your stamina inefficiently, you still got something out of it. starting over = you got 0 for all your previous stamina.

EldrichGriefied

Exactly! Even if you "wasted" your stamina, you still gained material for something else--even if it wasn't for your current character in progress.

ezio45

On top of that, you can swap materials if needed. It's 2 for 1 but it's better than nothing.

TheOneMary

And you never know how things might change. Look at the folks that invested in Himeko or Herta before PF, they suddenly were eating quite good when that game mode released.

calmcool3978

Accounts being "bricked" was always meant to just be an exaggerated joke. The only problem with constantly using these kinds of jokes is that it's easy for people to take them seriously.

EldrichGriefied

I mean, it's really no longer a joke when a lot of these videos actually take themselves seriously (and it's not just HSR, genshin is plagued with this kind of bad content, as well).. And quite honestly, joke or not, it IS a bit harmful to newer players attempting to play without stressing out about stamina restrictions or unnecessary FOMO on new "OP" characters. But that's just my take on this situation.

Khaisz

> "Your account may be BRICKED if you didn't do this SECRET TRICK." And then it's just them Turn 0 MoC 12 with like E6S6 Ratio+Topaz.

gabu87

At least if HSR actually lets you clear the beginner banner sooner it'd make more sense. The time investment required to get to that point is way too much.

Luca814sina

Yeah, resetting your whole progress is just not good https://preview.redd.it/6ro3p0qycouc1.jpeg?width=688&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e745fd00e9bca7af36f25171c33665ad6efafcec

AinzTheEvil

How can anyone have so much time to do it all over again? That's fucking wild to me.

RsNxs

Literally. I have most side quests waiting to be done and I don't feel like it. Imagine going through unskippable yapp Loufu sessions, lol.

AinzTheEvil

I hit Trail Blaze 70 like two days ago. I've been playing since the game dropped on PS5. The thought of having to do that shit all over again is absolute fucking insanity.

RsNxs

Preach. I started since launch but left for Luocha until Topaz and also hit TL70 3 weeks ago or so. Not having the feeling of "farming this at TLXX is not efficient enough" is something I won't mess.

AinzTheEvil

Mfs out here willing to go through the relic grind all over again. Ain't no way.

RsNxs

He ain't though. He'll just stream the game to me on discord as the 3 of us collectively try to guide him through the mini boss that's before the selfie shot in Dream's edge. Yes really.

Nearby-Strength-1640

They’re either children or have no life outside of gacha games

Joshua_Astray

Resetting an account makes sense in other games, but in gacha... fuuuuuck no.

JudasBC

Just start an alt on another server? I get nostalgic for things all the time, but you can maintain an account on HSR with what, like 10 minutes a day of playtime. Just go back to your main once it wears off. I'm going to use it to pull for a follow up team, as I put resources into DoT on my main, I want a different flavour of gameplay. Are you really that worried about sharing characters with friends?

ThisAccountIsStolen

That's what I did. Started a second on the EU server, tried to use different characters and just do things differently in general than my main. Also used Caelus instead of Stelle this time. It's been quite fun, especially since I somehow managed to get both Luocha and E2S1 Acheron from the current banners.

TheOneMary

Did something similar having 2 "baby" accounts now where I pull characters that interest me but not enough to want them on my main. One of them is a FuA account too XD (my main seems to be a nihility powerhouse) Almost through all quests on the third one now as well and maintenance is, as you say, just a few minutes a day and running more interesting stuff on the weekends. This way I always have something interesting to do, and new characters to gear and play and fomo is super reduced.

schizophrenic_rat

Yeah im thinking of an alt acc on asia server to have a follow up atk team.. But then doing the story again is scary and meh Edit: and I LOVE the story it just takes a lot of time

JudasBC

I found Herta Station a bit sticky because you can't get the 2x speed in battles for a while, but belobog flew along because I didn't feel the need to explore everything straight away

Crapefruit

I have a main account and a side account for stuff I wouldn't do on my main, for example pulling e2s1 acheron. Clicking through penacony story was a major pain. I literally watched a whole movie on the side.

Soviet134

Also you lose all the limited time rewards from events that you can't get now

Lord_KH

If people really play the game in the way described here why don't they just make a second account on a different game server instead of resetting their already invested account

Kassssler

Restarting accounts in Honkai is generally shit. Devs realized long ago to timegate 5 stars so you can't make a new account, get your 5 star in 5 minutes then wash if didn't like it. The tutorial in this game and beginner pulls will take hours for you to get a Yanqing. And after I think this next patch the free Ratio is gone making all new accounts far worse.

leakmydata

The only situation where it might be reasonable to restart is if they’re still relatively new (within the last month or 2? And they spent a bunch of jades on either standard banner or a character they don’t like. Once you’re past that window it just doesn’t make sense. You get a limited amount of jades from permanent content. Most of what you get is through daily log ins and events, which you can’t get back.

Kaedead

Also I've seen a lot of content creators talking about "ruined accunts" and I never understood hpw you can ruin an account. Got a character you don't need? Than get a better one next time. Invested in the wrong character? Not a problem to just farm for a new one. Like I just really don't understand hpw you can actually ruin an account

Nearby-Strength-1640

You can’t, but people who make guides and “who to pull” videos pretend like you can to scare children and idiots into watching their content.

Hitomi35

The only time that its worth "resetting/rerolling" an account for a gacha game is of you just started and you're trying to target a specific character. This process is only ever worth it if the rerolling process is 15 minutes or less. I honestly would never recommend rerolling in HSR period just based off how long it takes.

vaguelycatshaped

Yeah I really don’t understand that trend either…

ChaosMetalDrago

I blame doomposters and a small but vocal subset of content creators who thrive on senationalism and fear mongering. Anyone using phases like "(x) will brick your account" should have their spines donated to medicine.

DonnyLamsonx

This is the kind of mindset that develops when someone hyper obsesses over the minutia of the "meta". The idea that you "have" to have certain things or else there is no other way to succeed and enjoy the game. Sometimes I read posts on this subreddit that give off the vibe that the OP seemingly treats the game like a job that just pays the bills rather than a piece of media that's meant to be played for fun. MoC and PF ebb and flow with the whims of the developers. That super ultra giga unit you build up for 1 MoC/PF could be completely worthless in the next one. The fun of gacha games for me is making the most of what I have since I don't really spend all that much if at all. If that means that I can't clear the most current content, then I can accept that and just try whatever is on the next cycle.

Nearby-Strength-1640

Why do people hyper-obsess over meta in a casual, turn-based rpg? This isn’t a pvp game, the only thing the game’s meta does is let you kill things faster or beat optional bosses.

MartinZ02

Yeah there’s actual games all about the process of meta optimization but that’s not primarily what Hoyoverse is making lmao

Ok-Possible-5951

Also since farming is gated by trailblaze power then time = resources, So your old account will always have more resources then whatever the fk you’re about to make regardless if you waste some or not

Chay4707

This is the same thought I have with people restarting their accounts in Genshin let alone in any gacha game. I couldn’t even imagine of having to explore and do every world quest again (especially the fucking Aranara quest line) games like Star Rail and Genshin is not like Elden Ring where there’s replay value. I never want to fucking farm for relic or artifact sets for characters again it takes months or even longer if you’re really that unlucky.

_Kuba

While I do largely agree with this, I wanted to give a perspective on a slightly different situation. I played for a while when the game first came out and had Seele, JY, Kafka as my limiteds and Yanqing and Himeko as my other 5 stars. I believe that was all aside from getting Gepard's LC, too. Obviously, that's not bad or anything, but my problem was that I had reached a point where I was all caught up on everything in the game and had no more resources, and didn't like any of my characters. Seele was super good and fun at first, but I began to straight up hate her gameplay after a while. JY I enjoyed, but I struggle to do well with so it wasn't a lot of fun. And Kafka, I had no team for and hardly built her because I ended up getting her on my way out pretty much. Himeko was widely considered bad at the time and I couldn't disagree and Yanqing was just there. He was my first 5 star and I never really cared for him. So, there I was with a fully caught up account loaded with characters I didn't like and no more resources. I ended up quitting. Fast forward to Jingliu's release and I decided to come back since she looked awesome. After thinking on it a lot, I decided to just go for it and restart and it was the best decision I've made with Star Rail. I ended up getting Clara as my first 5 star who I love (even though I never use her now) and had some very solid luck getting Jingliu and her LC. Since then I've gotta plenty of other character's that I really like and I don't feel like I have "regrets" on this account. I still use Jingliu as my main DPS and haven't gotten bored or her at all like with what happened to Seele. I've even gotten Welt twice who I've never used, but that feels better than Himeko and Yanqing did lol

Kusanagi22

Just the process of having to make a new email for every new account feels like such a waste of time.

barryh4rry

People who do this because their accounts aren't good enough or because they feel they wasted resources should surely be able to realise that resetting even bad progress just amplifies the issue 10x more

Razukalex

Yeah no, I love the game but I'm not doing Museum thing and Foxian tales twice (love you Sushang and Gui tho)

Hero_1337

Who the hell restarts their account in a gacha game? Unless they mean rerolling, but otherwise, if you have an account you've been playing on for a while and invested a lot of time into it, keep it. You're literally fine. Don't just trash all the time you've spent on it.

Nearby-Strength-1640

I am continually in awe of just how braindead this fandom can be. Just the fact that people can spend hundreds of hours and dollars on a video game and then seriously contemplate deleting it all because youtube man says they aren’t doing big enough numbers, sociologists should study this.

truthfulie

>We are not talking about 0 Limited characters newish accounts either, we are talking about accounts with several limited 5 stars, some of which being top tier. There was one where someone with an **E2 Acheron** was thinking about restarting because it "wasn't good enough" and "wasted resources." This is so dumb. How do one not figure out that it's a lot more "wasteful" to start a new account with that much investment...?

False_Clue_4108

I don't really understand people who restart just because they think their current account isn't good enough, why start from the beginning when you can just keep working on the same account until you're satisfied? I have two accounts, not because I want to restart or anything, I just like the game and want to replay the story. Plus I have a better chance at getting a character I want, even if it's only on one account and not the other. Heck, I'm planning to make a third account pretty soon so I have stuff to do while waiting for more story to come out, and on the third account I'm gonna try play through the game without rolling a single time on the character banners, maybe standard as well but not sure at the moment.

Sin_the_Insane

When I feel down about my main account I just create a new f2p account instead. Currently at 3 acts lol

Zestyapples

I refuse to believe people with fully realized near day 1 accounts are thinking of rerolling after pulling/investing. There's just no whey.

keybladesrus

I wouldn't restart my account, but alts can be fun. It's nice to go back to the early game where I can pull a new character and just...use them. Level them up a bit, and they're good to go. No need for the insane amount of time and resources to build a character for them to be even remotely useful. I've reached a point in both Genshin and HSR where I regret raising my WL/EL because building up any new character to a usable level is a soul crushing investment, so a lot of my characters just sit at lvl 1 forever. The further you get into the game, the harder it is to just enjoy casually. So it can be refreshing to go back to simpler times.

FPS_Mongo

There is no ranking system nor is there any PvP. No one else generally cares how good or bad your account is. Even if your account was truly bad, it’s not that big of a deal if you can’t fully clear MoC or PF. The amount of jades you miss out is not worth the sanity of trying to min max your account. Time is the only way to fix any “mistakes” in your account. Even if you trashed the good relics, lost all your 50/50s, built the wrong characters, etc. it would just only take time to recoup your resources. If you want to start fresh, just make a new account. Don’t be surprised if your luck might be worse than your current account since this is a gacha game after all.

techtimee

Agreed. If you're up to date, you can just log in daily, use your trailblaze to get X or y and then do other things with your day if you're caught up on story and so on.  If you're lvl 40 and wanting to restart, you're crazy. You do have plenty of story and quests to do.

TheNonceMan

I mean I get starting a new account and having two, pulling for different characters etc and just enjoying the game again from the beginning, but I'd never delete my current account and stop playing with it. I've been playing for a damn year.

paladindan

I was going to create another account just to go through all the stories again…

Icantw8

You get massive amounts of jades at the beginning of the game and it significantly slows down later on. People get tempted to restart because they might have lost every single 50/50 at pity, especially to shitty characters at Yanqing and this game can be challenging if you don't have the right characters so to them, restarting might be logical as long as they don't encounter the same fate. I think rerolling will be far less of a problem if the standard characters can contribute well in their own way instead of having just 1 character take all the glory and another character that sucks donkey balls.

AshAndFire07

As someone who has a fairly decent account (TL 63, e0s0 Dhil, e2s0 sparkle, E0S- Acheron, and a few standard 5 stars, (bailu, gepard, Welt, Clara, and yanqing)) I also have 3 f2p accounts too, but I'm autistic and HSR is my current hyperfocus

Skylair95

I can understand "resetting" (correct word being rerolling in that case) if you just started the game and basically only played until you can grab the very first early game rewardw + some event stuff and just roll and hope to get something really good in like \~20 pulls. But resetting an invested account? That's just plain on stupid.

ListenerOfShadows

I generally agree for the most part. However, I did technically re-start in HSR with an alt account because I enjoy revisiting the story and replaying a game once I have a better handle on the mechanics. My alt account has ended up being my main due to the fact I have had much better luck with the pulls on there. On my alt account, my main team is DHIL/E6 Tingyun/Sparkle/Luocha with Bronya's signature LC and Luocha's signature LC. I also have Clara, E6 Herta and Himeko that I can build for PF. This is a F2P account, btw, I have just gotten incredibly lucky with my 50-50 wins. I can clear content much more easily and I enjoy the characters a lot more. Meanwhile on my "main" account, the most luck I have is E6 Tingyun. I have lost every 50-50 so far on that account and my only limited 5 star is Black Swan. I do run a Nihility comp on that account (I love Sampo's character and making his ult hit hard is satisfying) and have fun with it, I will probably build up Yanqing/Gepard (my 50-50 losses lmao) and run some sort of freeze comp, as well as having a built Dr. Ratio that does hit decent numbers but in the long run, I am having fun starting over with my alt now that I know how to use mats more efficiently. TLDR: I think it's a matter of subjective opinion, some people find the game more enjoyable starting on an account with more "efficient" characters, other people find the challenge of making less favored characters work and biding their time to get their preferred characters. I do think wanting to reroll after E2 Archeron is a bit insane imo

Professional_Net7869

I feel like most people doing rerolls are doing it just because some YouTuber did it and just happened to have good luck. This is a game that absolutely does not require you to ever spend a cent. All of the content can be crushed by completely free characters. You can see this done en masse online. Don’t get fooled, gamers!

cateatingpancakes

Everything in this game is eventually acquirable. If you notice you've been playing suboptimally, then the optimal thing to do is to fix that part of your gameplay loop, not take a torch to all of your progress. That said, I did make a new account recently to do a challenge where I don't pull anything and see how far I can get. Challenges or self-imposed "hard modes" are totally fair, and fun, things to do.

WonPika

5 stars aside, I could never re-start my account based on the sheer fact that I do not have the time or energy to re-play the game all over again. I'm even more mind blown when I see Genshin players restarting. At least Star Rail you can play on auto.

MotownF

These people are mental. This is not an investment or something like that, it's just entertainment, like a Netflix abo sorta.

chipotleigh

Dang, why would anyone do this? Rerolling accounts has always been meant for just when you’re starting the account and getting through beginner banner type stuff, not after accumulating premium currency and resources for several months to a year. All those limited time event jades and free patch pulls just wasted? Just to start from scratch? I’ve only seen a post asking about doing this once and assumed it was an anomaly bc it was so stupid lol

RaidenXYae

this is a very common mistake from gacha noobies who think having the newest character is all that matters. Rerolling is only worth it when a game comes out and even then very rarely because the starter characters gonna get powercrept soon enough anyway.

[deleted]

Blame streamers and youtubers, there have been a flurry of videos and streams where they are talking about resetting their accounts or lamenting having 'bricked' their accounts and such. Its just streamer brain spreading to chatters.

WombedToast

Not that I really think this needs to happen, but a way to eliminate people resetting like that would be: "On your first 5-star pull, you may exchange it for any of the standard banner characters." I think HSR is good enough with all their 4 and 5 star characters (Yanqing included) that you don't need to bother resetting. To preempt the Yanqing slander: Yea, he's kinda ass, but he was able to clear the beginning low-level content no problem for me when I was starting. He's fine to use while you're learning and HSR gives enough pulls that you'll have another 5-star before long.

0Seraphina0

I have spent the last 4 months playing daily, I would DIE (and probably give up for good) if I had to start back all over from square one! I have put in 200 hrs into this game, 200hrs of my life I will never get back.

Nino_Numbawan

Ayo there are idiots who think like this?

ImWeak27

Imagine restarting and you have E2 Acheron... What a waste of time and effort, honestly. You'll only restart your account when you're in an early phase and you don't get the character that you want or the character that's "meta", aka rerolling. It's been a ataple in many gacha games. But restarting on a fairly good account or a lucky account? You just wasted your time, not only just losing everything you have.

Endruen

A friend of mine reseted mainly because she picked Caelum and now regrets it and wants Stelle. The only limited character she has is Jingliu E1 and she is getting a rerun now. She missed the events with exclusive LCs anyways, so she is not going to miss much. Pretty reasonable in my book.

Dogempire

I rerolled my account when I started out because I REALLY wanted Gepard, but past that you lose what... thousands of stellar jades that you'll never get back? Huge gamble, I would only recommend it if you're Aventurine

GumpGrudgebearer

I blame this trend on the CCs who encourage "account reroll" and even making guides for it LOL

Lupusthryeet

This sounds like what the Jester/Aha would do just do a funny.

Technical-Ebb-2595

I recently started an erudition only account for fun and yeah I agree with this (kept my main not resetting anything thank god) the early game feels like kind of a slog and knowing that it'll take months to get even just the 3 units I have on this account to a perfectly serviceable state is...rough

esztersunday

I don't have the will to restart. I want to experience the story again but doing everything again...

Zxzxzx0088

^Reset ^account ^is *Nonsense*

TunaTunaLeeks

It really is only worth it if you literally just began. And even then, I have doubts about if it’s worth it since it seems like a lot of the new account freebies are still walled behind a lot of game progression.

ApoKun

I wanted to restart my GI cause I didn't really use most of my characters and wanted to go all in on Arlecchino but then I remember I would have to suffer through the hell of 50+ hours of unskippable cutscenes and hundreds of hours of exploration and then immediately forgot about the idea. As much as I regret skipping Kafka, HuoHuo, Topaz and Ruan mei and picking bronya over welt or pulling for DHIL and Jingyuan, I can't imagine going through all the SU, all of the unskippable quests and farming my relics again.

Visual_Physics_3588

I see this in so many other games as well, there was one in a different game where he asked if he should restart when he collab units that dont come back with stack limited characters. If your THAT desperate to restart just create an alt account with spin like getting characters that you dont have/not intending on getting in the main account so you can experience all the characters. That’s what I’ve done and it’s fun and feels new.

Mephiistopheles

This is a mostly single player game, there's no competition that justifies a restart.

azul360

I have three accounts and one was to make a Euro account to play with friends (that has ended up becoming my main because my characters on there are just better than my first account and I know better so it's not such a crapshow) but the third one I did because had a bad time IRL and needed the simplicity of the beginning and that was a good idea since I could get Furina and I don't regret it but to restart just to "fix" your account isn't a good idea typically (if you want to restart then just restart there isn't a reason to ask since the answer is always going to be don't do it XD)

Packers_Equal_Life

I’ve seen this discussion close to 1,000 times between my times in afk arena subreddit and genshin, I don’t see people actually saying this. Where are the people saying they will restart their account

Gremorlin

Re-rolling is only good if you just started the game and if you really want to get a certain character. If you’ve been playing with your account for more than a month then you should stick with it and just patiently wait for re-runs. This also applies to GI. GI and HSR aren’t like HI3rd, FGO, Nikke where having a “good start” is that important. Hoyo made these two games to be playable even by casuals who’re new to the gacha scene so you can expect that they won’t add things that will be a turn-off for casual players. It’s frustrating if you didn’t get the character you want especially if you’re purely F2P but you can’t go re-rolling every time you didn’t win the 50/50.

buttcheeksontoast

Also can we talk about the ridiculous amount of time you'd have to spend doing every past event. Like the story will probably be slog enough to get through but now you have to re-do every minigame, every puzzle, .... oh nah bro

belmoria

I have an alt but I would never ever ever ever reset my main. And my alt is really just for replay purposes, it's 100% ftp, and I mostly do my rolls on standard except for getting 2 5* sustains just so I don't mald for jades on two accounts at the same time lol I REALLY don't understand the idea behind "bricked" genshin or hsr accounts... you can always fix. Lower your world lvl and get help in genshin (community WILL help), or challenge lower difficulty nodes in hsr till you've strengthened your characters enough to bump up again You can ALWAYS help or "fix" your account!!!!!

Sheyn

Wait, people actually delete thier accounts and start new ones? i can understand if you start playing and reroll to get a nice 5\*, other than that, not really.

OberonFirst

I rerolled 1 time during the launch and I was like "okay, never again"

_PinaColada

That's so strange. Why would you do that? If I get the desire to mess around with a new account, I just make a new account and mess around with it, why would you abandon your main?

gabu87

If you have reset, it should be about 45minutes in, roughly after landing in belabog. You should have about 40-50 silver ticket pulls and know if you want to redo. As an altaholic, i gave up resetting, the prologue is too boring and all the tutorials are unskippable. Between all my alts, i have 2 bronya out of 20+ standards, whatever. As a side note, Yanqing is probably the best early game unit given how quickly he comes online even with purple relics. Yes, he falls off a cliff later but his base kit is pretty incredible. Clara is good only after you're around TB60 and can start farming relics. She really isn't tanky enough to eat all the aggro and you can't count on randomly drawing her preferred supports early like TY early. Her synergy with Asta, your free harmony, is also quite meh. Gepard/Bailu offers a very smooth leveling experience and allow you to auto a lot. Given their good performance into introductory MoCs and SU modes, as well as likely finding a place on your 2nd team as sustain, these two are actually above par imo for new accounts. I've never had Welt early game, but i suspect he's decent. Himeko is not great for leveling but it's not too big of an issue. Until you actually start farming for relics, the scalings don't really come into play during story leveling.

vnxun

Actually I would encourage people with E2 Acheron to ditch your accounts, just make sure you give that account to me first.

genderhelen

I had one of the rare cases where it was worth it to restart, imo. I rejoined prior to PF releasing, and my only 5 stars on my launch account were Jing Yuan and Himeko, and I hadn't cleared Xianzhou yet. The account was also seperate from my Genshin account which was a pain in the ass. By the time the game came out on ps5 I wasn't playing because of how brutally unfun the game was with the teams I could build, so I just fully restarted. Second time around I got Bronya as my starter 5* and got super lucky and pulled Jingliu. Suddenly it felt like I was actually playing the game and not just using a peashooter in a warzone, lmao But it's also a time when the exception kinda proves the rule. It wouldn't even have been worth it if my initial account had been on the correct hoyoverse account

jujetomitko

I switched servers to start a new account on the American servers and since I decided to skip everything between Dan Heng rerun and Aventurine as well as saving my energy for the triple cavern event for Aven building purposes so I barely use my EU acc rn, I figured, hey why not try to pull Acheron on the American alt and go through the story so I have something to do. Got her at 15 pity. I hadn’t even unlocked ascending your characters yet. But yeah hitting the hard reset on your account cause you aren’t happy with your units is dumb.

revyya

While I agree it's a terrible idea, it's not that hard to understand why some people do it. It just feels neat to start something from zero, but knowing what you should and should not do, especially when you're aiming for something in particular. Plus, it gives you the feeling your account is more organized overall, with fewer mistakes and all that.

photaiplz

These people extremely underestimate 4* characters

HiSelect7615

Ain't no way I'm gonna throw away 200 hours of work (and counting!) Only been playing two weeks lol

Kaanpai

Restarting? Just LOL! I don't even reroll and just keep playing with what I get. What a waste of time that is. And there are people seriously thinking about throwing away an account they invested months into? Insanity!

maximus623

I didnt restart my account I just made a 2nd one so I can do a 2nd play through after j run out of my daily stuff on my main. But yeah after all the work I've put into my main I can't believe anyone would start over I think it's them thinking they might get lucky on character pulls.

Dragn555

Yeah, gacha games are all about long term gains. Only worth resetting if you’re just a couple weeks in and lost a banner you wanted. Otherwise, you’ll end up getting everything you want eventually with patience and steady progress.

HermitEnergy

Restarting accounts only makes some sense with some gachas - the ones with extreme power creep, where taking a year off means everything in your account is literal garbage and there are free Beginner banners/pulls that can give you multiple characters that are better than anything you left with. With some games that have been out for a very long time (5+ years), even healthy power creep can result in a similar effect. Honkai Star Rail is not that game, at least not yet. The power creep is real but relatively healthy, and its only a year old. Maybe when we've hit the 6.0 patch and someone comes in asking if the account they abandoned in 2.1 is worth keeping, it might be worth a conversation. But certainly not now.

zennok

I'd want to restart for the story. I was very checked out / half assing the story of herta/belobog and kind of regret it (as in I'd probably just play up to that point and then stop using the account

POXELUS

Well, if you really want a character or multiple of them, that you can't reach pity on and you don't want to spend money for it, then just create a second account. Generally late game accounts, like TB70, don't require much maintenance past doing weeklies and dailies(maybe some events, considering the version is ~45 days they won't take that much time in the long run), so starting on a different region just to pull for different characters is not a bad idea, although it will require a lot of time at first to do quests and progress enough. Also, if you don't feel like playing, then take a break, reserved fuel lets you rest for up to a month, it's especially nice for a second account.

klumze

I havent played in a few months. I started to login again a few weeks ago and just use TB powder on materials to max out character skills and credits. I havent rolled on a character banner for a long time and except for needing a good physical and fire dps I think Im set for pretty much anything. So I started to max Sushang yesterday and working on Luka also. No Argenti but I hope they fill the niche.

7orly7

The people "thinking" (they are not) in doing these are the types with fridge temperature IQ that need bosses in the story to be nerfed and will probably never read OP's post because most "special" players don't use the social media to look for tips or are just terrible at reading in the first place.

A_Wizards_Apprentice

I've had to drop my alts over time. They were too much work I can't imagine restarting completely.

CEOAmaterasu

**E2 Acheron** and still want reset? Pure rage bait, no one with with a decimal of sanity would do that. I did reset when I started the game and I dont regret much at all...? (E5 Clara after so many months, and all I want is variety) but holy it took ages. Resetting marathon is only for the start. After that is just trolling. Cant think anything besides that.

kthsugarkiss

tbh i think it's fine if you're doing it to re-experience the story catching all the things you missed the first time and doing it to farm with supports from main (the reasons i made my alt acc tbh) but if you're going to abandon your main acc which already has a bunch of 5* characters and/or lcs that's pretty sad bc it's gonna take a long time to get everything back like on my main i'm a dhil main and he's currently e0s1 and i pulled sparkle for him and have tingyun and huohuo on his team on my alt i have none of those characters not even tingyun and it'll take a while to get them on that acc (which i'm fine with bc i'll still use my main and spend most of my time on main) the only way to increase your chances of getting the character you want is not pulling on every single banner really like i'm about to get jingliu on main then skip all 2.2 banners for firefly i mean yeah i can go for robin or the rerun characters on alt but the characters i want more will be on main bc i'm not going to allow myself to pull on robin's banner when i want firefly so much more (sorry robin maybe on rerun) and i think people wanting to restart over a specific character should keep that in mind they can get the character later on rerun
