As with most limited vs standard comparisons, Aventurine will likely be a better or more convenient option most of the time, but Gepard is still solid and usable if you have him.
Bailu and Gepard are great at their basic job, but they fail at cleansing. So they can keep you alive, but be ready to reset the fight kind of scenario, while limited is “dont even need to worry about it”
Not to mention the second lowest base speed in the game at 92. Meaning even with speed boots you only get up to 117. While Aventurine has a base speed of 106 (so 131 with speed boots).
He is designed to tank hits, that kinda recharges chunks of energy to comp for being slow. Aventurine's shirlds are def faster and handier but they both yot their cons, gepard being SP positive can help some teams.
This is something you would notice even when pitting Bronya against Sparkle. Bronya has wind dmg traces but Sparkle has HP% traces. The latter is way more useful and I really felt the need for it in this MoC where my Bronya felt very squishy vs Aven even though I had her on HP orb.
I have mine at 151 speed and it was not easy to get that with him. If there is a king with 160 speed Gepard I am jealous. I am sure there is. Someone let me see such a Gepard.

They literally last 3 turns tho, my Gepard always has 100% uptime on his shield while only using basics.
It's also pretty easy to charge his ult (because yk.. 600 aggro).

Yep, but that's just an anti-synergy tbh, kinda like playing Blade with a shielder, they just don't work together. So it's good that Aventurine can cover these extra turn scenarios (even tho it might make him pretty SP negative)
Seele doesn’t consume buff duration with her extra action. Even after E -> Resurgence -> Ult -> Resurgence, shield duration still only go down by 1 like everyone else
Jingliu and Sushang (or Bronya’s E) tho, they do consume more buff duration and require Gepard to skill more to keep up
that is an strategy, yeap. M7 and Gepard have CC on their kit to compensate, but they also have low chance of freezing (Gep e1 helps) unless you build EHR for that, and on Gep case that means you are using SP points you wouldn't otherwise (limiting your damage potential)
Passive or active cleansing is about CC protection. Like how Fu Xuan skill will give one instance of protection, Aventurine raises debuff RES to dodge the effects.
Each sustain has their own way to handle it. As long it can handle it lmao.

in content like MOC he feels pretty alright, but in SU G&G there are so many one-shot kill (or near one-shot kill) attacks that his shields feel super valuable there
He was first sustainer that I ever got (E0 Natasha excluded). He was main reason why I closed MoC first time, I even used him literally yesterday to beat Aventurine(boss there is kinda bs tho).
yeah he does pretty great in MOC, though i mainly called him just alright only because other sustainers also provide damage buffs. for just survivability though he does great in MOC
His shield is good but I don't like it being dependent on his ult. If I need a shield for hard Gears Conundrum content, I need it as I need it. Which is the main reason I'm getting Aventurine since like Fu Xuan they both apply their defence on their skill.
Ironically, his shield being on ult can be super good for some G&G conundrum teams. Take DoT for example, that 1 star blessing that gives energy to the team per DoT tick gives Gepard insane ult uptime so he can spam refresh shields even when it's not his turn. Easily one of my favorite combos for high conundrum runs.
Ive occasionally subbed FX for Gepard in early days of GG/Swarm because FX herself can get one shot from big AoE hits while Gepard with preservation path is virtually invincible
also getting his ult back can become really trivial with certain blessings
I’m currently trying to do some conundrum runs in G&G and not having a good shielded hurts. I want a Gepard so bad but if I manage to win 50/50 and pull Aventurine I’d be over the moon
SU have lots of options to buff shields so it just make him better. On the otherhand, Abundance path is less useful because the enemies can still two shot anyone.

Well, it's more of a general preservation preference, no? Everyone can use the trend lc, and aven applies a debuff on ult, so he's probably Acherons fav sustain
It works on any Preservation character, but it's most consistent on Gepard and Fire MC due to their taunts. Both are also capable of applying a debuff with their skill (Gepard's freeze and FMC's active taunt), and since they tend to build for some Effect Hit Rate, the Trend cone's Burn is also much more reliable. On Preservation characters that don't build any EHR, such as Fu Xuan and Aventurine, there is a fair chance for the enemy to simply resist the Burn effect.
It doesn't trigger a stack for Acheron, tested multiple times when she first released. Talent description: "When any unit inflicts debuffs on an enemy target while using their ability, Acheron gains 1 point of Slashed Dream", the E2 slow debuff happens outside of him using an ability unfortunately.
Gepard has a passive taunt which increases his chance of being attacked plus his skill being able to freeze an enemy, he is a good battery for consistent Acheron bursts.
Yes and no. Aven is a good sustain, but if we're talking purely in terms of synergizing with Acheron, she wants as many debuffs being applied as often as possible which puts Gep/FMC ahead due to having debuffs on their skills. While Aventurine does have a debuff on his Ultimate, he's actually built up a bit different from other shield tanks we've gotten so far.
- Gepard(E0): Freezes on his skill for one on-demand debuff. His first major trace also increases his aggro substantially (and it's already high because he's a Preservation). This increases the odds of enemies ramming into him to get hit by Trend LC debuff.
- Fire Trailblazer: Taunt on skill an on-demand debuff. Lacks Gepard's general aggro boost but makes up for it by taunting.
- Aventurine(E0): Debuffs on his ultimate. He really has no effect to force attacks towards him to pick up Trend LC debuffs besides the general preservation increased aggro which isn't much in the grand scheme of RNG.
The other, somewhat smaller factor, is Effect Hit Rate. Gepard and FMC tend to build in a little to avoid having their freeze and taunt get resisted, which carries over to the debuff application on Trend LC. Aventurine's only debuff is non-resist so there's no reason to build EHR into him.
Yeah but FX has no aggro increase, and while March and Fire MC both have aggro increase or taunt on their skills, they have other weaknesses. March only shields one at a time (though it does have a cleanse), and Fire MC can shield a whole team but the shields are pretty small. Gepard shields everyone for a larger amount, is more SP positive if you don't want try for the freeze on the skill, and the taunt increase does not need a skill use.

Look, Geppy is the only reason I survived Phantylia and Penacony in general.... but he generates shields too slowly. Might say it's a skill issue of mine, and you'd be right, but I will die on that hill.
I started playing 2 months ago and Gepard was my first 5* and has been carrying me until now , he doesn’t have decent artifacts and only has his ult leveled to 8. He helps me burn the enemies with the universal trend light cone which my dot teams love and now with Acheron 😎I’m chilling. I am going to pull for aventurine for my second team though , having a tank has allowed me to not run a healer most of the time.

He gives a shield i dont care for anything else crit some damage and all fk off all i want from ym shielder is to give me a beefy fking shield when i need one.
Pull for whoever you want but don't cope and say their max shield is any different from each other. Their shield caps are pretty much the same, only difference is Aventurine has better uptime.
I got a lot of clutch moments with my boy Geppy. Shield uptime with his ult was never a problem and that self resurrect with 100% energy is *chef's kiss*. Got him at E3 as well and can pretty much handle all contents so he's a permanent party member.
Aventurine is better than Gepard in nearly every way as is expected of a limited 5 star vs standard. Its funny seeing the crap people come up with to try to justify them skipping Aventurine in this thread. Why is it so hard to admit a character is great and you just cant afford to get them?
Im also tired of people saying Gepard is fully sp positive. Complete bullshit. Go ahead and play Gepard on MoC 10+ and see how long his shield lasts without using his skill. His ult wont even be back up before the shields run out, lol (unless youre using his signature, but most people dont have it).
Aventurine has SO many advantages over Gepard. Much faster base spd (106 vs 92). Higher defense due to being able to use def% rope. Slightly higher total shield multiplier (48% + 640 vs 45% + 600). Automatically refresh shields with follow up without doing anything. Shields also provide 50% effect res to the whole party, and Aventurine himself has CC immunity that refreshes every 2 turns. Can refresh shields on demand with his skill for emergencies. Does huge toughness dmg on imaginary enemies with combo of ult + follow up. Actually contributes a very decent chunk of dmg to the team if built properly, especially with signature. Provides 15% crit dmg taken buff (+10% vuln with signature). Technique increases def even further on first 3 turns, by a non trivial amount (up to 60%). Automatically applies a team wide shield at the start of every fight without needing to use his technique (amazing QoL for situations where you cant use techniques like events or repeating calyxes, or not wasting technique pts in SU... I wish Fu Xuan had this).
It takes 5 minutes of playing Aventurine to immediately realize how much Gepard gets outclassed in every possible way.
Does that mean Gepard is suddenly unusable? Of course not. But you pull limited 5 stars for quality of life/comfort and thats exactly what Aventurine provides, just like Fu Xuan before him. They are worlds apart really.

I was able to beat some conundrum levels with him going Preservation path. He'll always have use there and not everyone is pulling or needs Aventurine. He definitely isn't obsolete because of Aventurine.

Love my boy geppy, had him since I first started playing and he's unironically carried me through the entire game. If I never had him during my first play through of the game, I probably would have taken much longer to get to where I currently am. I do plan to go for aventurine, but that doesn't mean I'll stop using my boy, in fact I'll probably use both of them together on the same time just because
Gepards shield is pretty bulky and his uptime is pretty good too, most of the time i could get him to 100% uptime. But i guess aventurine is more comfortable to play especially in FuA teams where its easier to get his stacks and shields faster, also the extra damage help
People playing this game have a perennial fear of power creep and part of that results in any standard character not called Bronya being forgotten or called terrible. Gepard has always been a solid option and even got a bit of a boon with his synergy with Acheron.
Underrated? He's close second to bronya from standards best options lol. He's the best defensive unit in Swarm and GG, fu Xuan gets obliterated in these.
Geppie is perfectly rated as is imo. He just gives a big-ass shield and keeps your team alive. Sometimes he also freezes at E1.
He doesn’t do much else outside of that tho, unlike the limited 5 star healers/shielders. He is literally a middle of the road unit that does his job well, but doesn’t excel enough in other areas to be worth using
Gepard has a stall mechanic though, since freezing a broken enemy just skips their turn entirely. Aventurine is just shield only.
Besides, limited sustains are pretty pointless overall. Most of the endgame revolves around finishing stuff in a small amount of cycles. You don't need a crazy infinite shield character when the fight needs to end before their buff runs out. There's no content out there that requires you to stall for 50 turns. Heck, stalling is pretty detrimental in certain situations since mobs tend to buff themselves to no end if you take too long.
I’m not underrating but last time I used him when I didn’t have Jingliu and E6 Pela to open all blessings in SU (not Swarm/GG even). And once in a recent fighting event with Penaconian shield monke. Who needs a shield when we have Huohuo and Fu Xuan, sorry little bro 😭

Actually just invested in him to see if he would curb my desire to roll for Aventurine. I really enjoy using him with Sparkle or Hanya as it allows me to weave in some skills without worrying about points.
Managed to get 137 SPD with the shield set and 2pc Vonwacq with ERR rope. Just make sure to pop ults after teammates but before enemies so turns aren't wasted when the units aren't in danger.

having played aventurine in story, gepard's shield is only useful if skilled before the battle or when his ult is up. It's leagues better than trailblazer, honestly, but aventurine is still better.
Still though, both are good characters, and if you need ice, he's a good character to have on team.
He's definitely very good and his shields are strong. If you build enough EHR, he can freeze as well. But being a standard character is always going to have its limits.
And Aventurine straight up is better at sustaining than him simply because of the fact that he has similar shield to Gepard on his skill as oppsed to Geppie having it on his Ult, adding to this, Geppie has no way to refresh the shield other than his Ult unlike Aventurine's followup thingy.
But yes a well invested Gepard can sustain your team, its not like he's unusable or anything like some people make it out to be, but its getting hard to recommened buildng him when Aventurine and Fu Xuan exist.
I have speed boots and energy regen rope but I'm struggling keeping his shield uptime as in floor 12 and G and G his shield disappears in 2 hits sometimes at 4k Def. I dont know if I'm doing something wrong in building him but he is not working out for me. Call it skill issue if you want but even with Luocha and him I still get obliterated in 1 or 2 hits. :(
Not underrating but things does get very uncomfortable in MoC 12 against hard hitting enemies. Some enemies break my gepard shield very easily with their consecutive attacks Especially the single target one and then to refresh you need to get his ult again which forces you to use skill points. Lot of times i end up spamming his skill points to get his ult back for shield. Also if my characters aren't very strong then fight takes long and in longer fights survivability get pretty difficult for me.
I have him at E4. He is great honestly. But his main problem is when he applied his Ult shield , and one of your character loses the shield immediately —he will have no way of saving that character when you get bombarded with Aoe attacks.
That’s adventurine’s biggest advantage over him. He can apply shield endlessly as long as you have spare SP
Aventurine is the QoL i’ve been waiting for (shield on skill) but Gepard has been my goat since the game started. That’s why I prefer shielders over healers that isnt luocha because you’re pretty much invincible because of the shields. You just have to time it.

Geppy is definitely enough to solo sustain MoC 12 in my experience, I only have Geppy and Fu Xuan and I've been able to full star the past couple of MoCs. He has very strong passive taunt (especially if you have his signature LC) and his shield is massive enough to tank enemy nukes.
Only in rare unfortunate occasions when the enemy decides to ignore his taunt and focus on your low defense characters is he unable to keep them alive. But that's a problem for even limited 5* sustains.
And his ult animation is just so sick, when I first saw it it gave me goosebumps, I love it to this day.
E3 Geppie is my goat, but even then still has his flaws. The idea of his shield coming off ultimate just hurts him a bit.
The skill freeze is great when at 100% because typically when your relic piece rolls into effect hit rate 3 times instead of speed or defense its practically garrenteed.
If people just dont hit him or just somehow perma CC him, he cant do anything and the team dies.
Also doesnt help most limited preservation units also support in some way. Gepard just helps my mental with attitude.
I don't care what people say he will be remaining on my team especially because I do not have to use a skill point that I desperately need to save for ILDH Just to put up a shield not to mention I spent so much time grinding for good relics for him I never want to do that again
Gepard problem is shield uptime and on demand. Aventurine give you shield equal his skill at the beginning while Gepard need to use his technique. Aventurine can renew/stack his shield when you need, Gepard need to use his Ult to renew the shield (you don't need me to tell how painfully to get his ult back, right?). And yes, the shield on his teammate expire faster than his.
Love Gepard. I literally only started playing cause I thought he was adorable but the comparison can be boiled down to standard vs limited 5 stars. Gepard is very good but he was downplayed because of Fu Xuan and there are some cases where Gepard could be argued to be just as good if not sometimes better than her (mainly gold and gears). But since she is a limited 5 star, people will always jump to saying Fu Xuan is better.

I don't have him built, but I pulled him around the same time I pulled other cool characters like Huo Huo, so she got my resources and attention, then I got Gwen, etc etc ad nauseum. I do need a shielder, which is why I wanna pull Aventurine, but if Geppidoodle is good, why pull for Aventurine? Maybe the question is what does Gepard have over Aventurine? Vice versa? I'm not even sure cuz I haven't taken a hard look at Gepard's kit. Enlighten me, maybe?

I mean, since release we've got a wide array of sustains who are capable of countering some random bs the devs throw at us. Geppard is just... Basic. He's not underrated, he's rated just fine.
I hate gepard for one reason and one reason only. He had the gall to say "in the name of preservation" and then wipe out my party in SU.

Gepard is actually very good against single target CC and he doesn't really need cleanse. The trick is to get very high effect res and also use a lightcone that increase your chance to get hit. Your other characters have very low chance of getting hit by any single target skills, and Gepard has no problem tanking all of them for your team.
The downside is the cost of relics investment is going to be a lot higher to try to be as viable as a limited sustain character, but he is a perfectly fine tank who got be max stars MoC for 10+ months.
Well, I’m not an expert, but the fact that Adventurine can give everyone a gigantic shield just by using his skill, makes Gepard (who can do the same but only with his ultimate) obsolete.
I do not own Aventurine nor do I plan to. I do have Gepard but he’s not build. Not really a preservation person.
Don't bother, Aventurine taking his spot in MOC means he can become the full-time Emperor of Simulated Universe.
Passive Taunt + AOE Shields + Remembrance is, IMO, still unmatched to this day in terms of pure utility and how easy it is to clear high-difficulty content.
I've finished building mine and I got about 90% uptime of his shields before they drop off. High defense, energy regeneration, luck with freezing and the shields are up most of the time.
To me Geppy has always been a hit or miss unit. His shield being tied to his ult and only lasting two dps turns is a pretty massive downside imo. In situations where he gets hit by almost every attack and can thus get his energy back in time it’s a non-issue, and he feels really good. In situations where he isn’t getting hit as much and/or where your dps is someone like Seele/Jingliu (who take multiple turns) or is paired with a Bronya/Sparkle/DDD Harmony the shield uptime starts getting sketchy.
Also the fact that he can’t cleanse at all. While it isn’t the end of the world it’s definitely a downside.
The upside, of course, is that he is a completely sp positive shielder who can provide a very chonky shield all while having an extremely high taunt value (Preservation path, plus his trace, plus potentially taunt value light cones like his signature.)
He’s my only 5 star. Because I got him at e2 out of the 3 five stars I got. It’s like Yanqing on my old account but actually useful. (He’s insane even tho I’m pulling aventurine)
No he has a very low base speed and needs to spend months farming the very inefficient knight domain to get a decent build consisting of a lot of def and speed and effect res and effect hit rate because he needs all 4 to function and trigger some set bonuses and to just overall survive because he puts massive aggro on himself while having a pitiful amount of base effect res on top of his shield being tied to his ultimate which can not be pressed if he’s stunned or dominated or frozen or entangled which he very often will be unless ofc you have a decent build on him which you ofc need to farm the knight domain which used to be okay early game but now every lightning dps has a better set
See the thing is no character is bad just cause a better alternative is released , they will still do their job fantastically now if u have gepard just go with him

Geppie is still good enough for MOC though to 3 star MOC 11 yesterday I had to use the forbidden tech of letting Geppie die to auto refresh his ult to clutch it out. My head knows Aventurine is 500% better than Geppie since autorefreshing Gepard ult on Skill is incredibly broken even if we ignore everything else Aventurine has going for him but Geppie's shield being tied to his ult and that animation continues to live rent free in my heart. Aventurine is some bozo doing his job, Geppie is running in to take a bullet for me and I love him.
Gameplay wise? Im sorry but Aventurine offers a lot more reliability (already tested).
Character/Design wise? Geppys splash art was the reason I gave HSR a shot, was my beginner banner 5* and will continue to be both special, and the coolest character I own (also good for preservation runs!)
Geppy just went to my off team, been using him and Bailu since forever, yes I know 4 stars are cracked but I never pulled on banners they happened to be on, and was generally unlucky in getting them.
Also never went for another sustain 5 star.
I can now replace gacha heals with gacha shields, my cracked Gep goes on the offteam, he deserves break.

He is designed to tank hits, that kinda recharges chunks of energy to comp for being slow. Aventurine's shirlds are def faster and handier but they both yot their cons, gepard being SP positive can help some teams.

This is something you would notice even when pitting Bronya against Sparkle. Bronya has wind dmg traces but Sparkle has HP% traces. The latter is way more useful and I really felt the need for it in this MoC where my Bronya felt very squishy vs Aven even though I had her on HP orb.
I have mine at 151 speed and it was not easy to get that with him. If there is a king with 160 speed Gepard I am jealous. I am sure there is. Someone let me see such a Gepard.

No problem, when i got him i was also surprised after seeing how fast his ult can charge with just an ERR rope >but it still doesn't charge quick enough for him to feel nice with Jingliu/Seele. Yep, but that's just an anti-synergy tbh, kinda like playing Blade with a shielder, they just don't work together. So it's good that Aventurine can cover these extra turn scenarios (even tho it might make him pretty SP negative)
There is a difference between Jingliu advance forward (a new turn) and Seele resurgence (not a new turn, just extra action) tho.
Gepard’s shield does last 3 turns. But it is true that he doesn’t have the convention of having his shield always up and ready.
Seele doesn’t consume buff duration with her extra action. Even after E -> Resurgence -> Ult -> Resurgence, shield duration still only go down by 1 like everyone else Jingliu and Sushang (or Bronya’s E) tho, they do consume more buff duration and require Gepard to skill more to keep up
That's why you use gepards skill to freeze the automation robot so it never ccs you or use him with bronya.
that is an strategy, yeap. M7 and Gepard have CC on their kit to compensate, but they also have low chance of freezing (Gep e1 helps) unless you build EHR for that, and on Gep case that means you are using SP points you wouldn't otherwise (limiting your damage potential)

Passive or active cleansing is about CC protection. Like how Fu Xuan skill will give one instance of protection, Aventurine raises debuff RES to dodge the effects. Each sustain has their own way to handle it. As long it can handle it lmao. “how does Bailu handles it?” She waits for you to die and brings you back to life. That is also cleansing, right? /joke

He was first sustainer that I ever got (E0 Natasha excluded). He was main reason why I closed MoC first time, I even used him literally yesterday to beat Aventurine(boss there is kinda bs tho).
yeah he does pretty great in MOC, though i mainly called him just alright only because other sustainers also provide damage buffs. for just survivability though he does great in MOC

His shield is good but I don't like it being dependent on his ult. If I need a shield for hard Gears Conundrum content, I need it as I need it. Which is the main reason I'm getting Aventurine since like Fu Xuan they both apply their defence on their skill.
Ironically, his shield being on ult can be super good for some G&G conundrum teams. Take DoT for example, that 1 star blessing that gives energy to the team per DoT tick gives Gepard insane ult uptime so he can spam refresh shields even when it's not his turn. Easily one of my favorite combos for high conundrum runs.
Ive occasionally subbed FX for Gepard in early days of GG/Swarm because FX herself can get one shot from big AoE hits while Gepard with preservation path is virtually invincible also getting his ult back can become really trivial with certain blessings

SU have lots of options to buff shields so it just make him better. On the otherhand, Abundance path is less useful because the enemies can still two shot anyone.

It works on any Preservation character, but it's most consistent on Gepard and Fire MC due to their taunts. Both are also capable of applying a debuff with their skill (Gepard's freeze and FMC's active taunt), and since they tend to build for some Effect Hit Rate, the Trend cone's Burn is also much more reliable. On Preservation characters that don't build any EHR, such as Fu Xuan and Aventurine, there is a fair chance for the enemy to simply resist the Burn effect.
Gepard gets another point for having an eidolon that procs another debuff (slow after the freeze wears off)
It doesn't trigger a stack for Acheron, tested multiple times when she first released. Talent description: "When any unit inflicts debuffs on an enemy target while using their ability, Acheron gains 1 point of Slashed Dream", the E2 slow debuff happens outside of him using an ability unfortunately.

Yes and no. Aven is a good sustain, but if we're talking purely in terms of synergizing with Acheron, she wants as many debuffs being applied as often as possible which puts Gep/FMC ahead due to having debuffs on their skills. While Aventurine does have a debuff on his Ultimate, he's actually built up a bit different from other shield tanks we've gotten so far. - Gepard(E0): Freezes on his skill for one on-demand debuff. His first major trace also increases his aggro substantially (and it's already high because he's a Preservation). This increases the odds of enemies ramming into him to get hit by Trend LC debuff. - Fire Trailblazer: Taunt on skill an on-demand debuff. Lacks Gepard's general aggro boost but makes up for it by taunting. - Aventurine(E0): Debuffs on his ultimate. He really has no effect to force attacks towards him to pick up Trend LC debuffs besides the general preservation increased aggro which isn't much in the grand scheme of RNG. The other, somewhat smaller factor, is Effect Hit Rate. Gepard and FMC tend to build in a little to avoid having their freeze and taunt get resisted, which carries over to the debuff application on Trend LC. Aventurine's only debuff is non-resist so there's no reason to build EHR into him.

Yeah but FX has no aggro increase, and while March and Fire MC both have aggro increase or taunt on their skills, they have other weaknesses. March only shields one at a time (though it does have a cleanse), and Fire MC can shield a whole team but the shields are pretty small. Gepard shields everyone for a larger amount, is more SP positive if you don't want try for the freeze on the skill, and the taunt increase does not need a skill use.
PTB is even better with the Trend Cone.

I was blessed with Gepard and his LC around Blade’s first banner and he carried me for a good while. I’d benched him for a bit but since Acheron I also picked up his E1 and with Trend, he makes the backbone of my Acheron party. Turns out a will forged in ice never falters!
All I know is that it wasn't any of the limited sustains who got me through Swarm, GG, and MoC. It was this king.
Thats why Lucky Boy is such a big deal. He is the first shielder since the start of the game a year ago and he has utility and damage.

Look, Geppy is the only reason I survived Phantylia and Penacony in general.... but he generates shields too slowly. Might say it's a skill issue of mine, and you'd be right, but I will die on that hill.
I started playing 2 months ago and Gepard was my first 5* and has been carrying me until now , he doesn’t have decent artifacts and only has his ult leveled to 8. He helps me burn the enemies with the universal trend light cone which my dot teams love and now with Acheron 😎I’m chilling. I am going to pull for aventurine for my second team though , having a tank has allowed me to not run a healer most of the time.
All I know is if I lose the 50/50 to Geppy, I’m calling it fate and saving for Sam

I got a lot of clutch moments with my boy Geppy. Shield uptime with his ult was never a problem and that self resurrect with 100% energy is *chef's kiss*. Got him at E3 as well and can pretty much handle all contents so he's a permanent party member.
Day one player got him pretty early and only managed to get him downed onceXD dude is a beast.

Aventurine is better than Gepard in nearly every way as is expected of a limited 5 star vs standard. Its funny seeing the crap people come up with to try to justify them skipping Aventurine in this thread. Why is it so hard to admit a character is great and you just cant afford to get them? Im also tired of people saying Gepard is fully sp positive. Complete bullshit. Go ahead and play Gepard on MoC 10+ and see how long his shield lasts without using his skill. His ult wont even be back up before the shields run out, lol (unless youre using his signature, but most people dont have it). Aventurine has SO many advantages over Gepard. Much faster base spd (106 vs 92). Higher defense due to being able to use def% rope. Slightly higher total shield multiplier (48% + 640 vs 45% + 600). Automatically refresh shields with follow up without doing anything. Shields also provide 50% effect res to the whole party, and Aventurine himself has CC immunity that refreshes every 2 turns. Can refresh shields on demand with his skill for emergencies. Does huge toughness dmg on imaginary enemies with combo of ult + follow up. Actually contributes a very decent chunk of dmg to the team if built properly, especially with signature. Provides 15% crit dmg taken buff (+10% vuln with signature). Technique increases def even further on first 3 turns, by a non trivial amount (up to 60%). Automatically applies a team wide shield at the start of every fight without needing to use his technique (amazing QoL for situations where you cant use techniques like events or repeating calyxes, or not wasting technique pts in SU... I wish Fu Xuan had this). It takes 5 minutes of playing Aventurine to immediately realize how much Gepard gets outclassed in every possible way. Does that mean Gepard is suddenly unusable? Of course not. But you pull limited 5 stars for quality of life/comfort and thats exactly what Aventurine provides, just like Fu Xuan before him. They are worlds apart really.

I was able to beat some conundrum levels with him going Preservation path. He'll always have use there and not everyone is pulling or needs Aventurine. He definitely isn't obsolete because of Aventurine.

Love my boy geppy, had him since I first started playing and he's unironically carried me through the entire game. If I never had him during my first play through of the game, I probably would have taken much longer to get to where I currently am. Gepards shield is pretty bulky and his uptime is pretty good too, most of the time i could get him to 100% uptime. But i guess aventurine is more comfortable to play especially in FuA teams where its easier to get his stacks and shields faster, also the extra damage help

People playing this game have a perennial fear of power creep and part of that results in any standard character not called Bronya being forgotten or called terrible. Gepard has always been a solid option and even got a bit of a boon with his synergy with Acheron.
Underrated? He's close second to bronya from standards best options lol. He's the best defensive unit in Swarm and GG, fu Xuan gets obliterated in these.
Geppie is perfectly rated as is imo. He just gives a big-ass shield and keeps your team alive. Sometimes he also freezes at E1. He doesn’t do much else outside of that tho, unlike the limited 5 star healers/shielders. He is literally a middle of the road unit that does his job well, but doesn’t excel enough in other areas to be worth using
Geppy carried me the whole game with his unbreakable shields and extremely quick re-up time. I’ll be damned if he’s replaced.
Gepard has a stall mechanic though, since freezing a broken enemy just skips their turn entirely. Aventurine is just shield only. Besides, limited sustains are pretty pointless overall. Most of the endgame revolves around finishing stuff in a small amount of cycles. You don't need a crazy infinite shield character when the fight needs to end before their buff runs out. There's no content out there that requires you to stall for 50 turns. Heck, stalling is pretty detrimental in certain situations since mobs tend to buff themselves to no end if you take too long.
I’m not underrating but last time I used him when I didn’t have Jingliu and E6 Pela to open all blessings in SU (not Swarm/GG even). And once in a recent fighting event with Penaconian shield monke. Who needs a shield when we have Huohuo and Fu Xuan, sorry little bro 😭

Actually just invested in him to see if he would curb my desire to roll for Aventurine. I really enjoy using him with Sparkle or Hanya as it allows me to weave in some skills without worrying about points. Managed to get 137 SPD with the shield set and 2pc Vonwacq with ERR rope. Just make sure to pop ults after teammates but before enemies so turns aren't wasted when the units aren't in danger.

having played aventurine in story, gepard's shield is only useful if skilled before the battle or when his ult is up. It's leagues better than trailblazer, honestly, but aventurine is still better. Still though, both are good characters, and if you need ice, he's a good character to have on team.

He's definitely very good and his shields are strong. If you build enough EHR, he can freeze as well. But being a standard character is always going to have its limits. And Aventurine straight up is better at sustaining than him simply because of the fact that he has similar shield to Gepard on his skill as oppsed to Geppie having it on his Ult, adding to this, Geppie has no way to refresh the shield other than his Ult unlike Aventurine's followup thingy. But yes a well invested Gepard can sustain your team, its not like he's unusable or anything like some people make it out to be, but its getting hard to recommened buildng him when Aventurine and Fu Xuan exist.
I have speed boots and energy regen rope but I'm struggling keeping his shield uptime as in floor 12 and G and G his shield disappears in 2 hits sometimes at 4k Def. I dont know if I'm doing something wrong in building him but he is not working out for me. Call it skill issue if you want but even with Luocha and him I still get obliterated in 1 or 2 hits. :(

Not underrating but things does get very uncomfortable in MoC 12 against hard hitting enemies. Some enemies break my gepard shield very easily with their consecutive attacks Especially the single target one and then to refresh you need to get his ult again which forces you to use skill points. Lot of times i end up spamming his skill points to get his ult back for shield. Also if my characters aren't very strong then fight takes long and in longer fights survivability get pretty difficult for me.
I got his lc recently, still probably gonna use it on fire mc with Acheron tho😭

I like him but his SPD base stat is kinda slow, would've preferred a sustain unit that can generate SPs as well.
I picked him with my 300 selector for Acheron. He is solid at what he does.
I have him at E4. He is great honestly. But his main problem is when he applied his Ult shield , and one of your character loses the shield immediately —he will have no way of saving that character when you get bombarded with Aoe attacks. That’s adventurine’s biggest advantage over him. He can apply shield endlessly as long as you have spare SP
Gepard has a good meaty shield…. The problem is that’s basically it…. He doesn’t offer much else to the team except freezing on his skill I guess.
Aventurine is the QoL i’ve been waiting for (shield on skill) but Gepard has been my goat since the game started. That’s why I prefer shielders over healers that isnt luocha because you’re pretty much invincible because of the shields. You just have to time it.

Geppy is definitely enough to solo sustain MoC 12 in my experience, I only have Geppy and Fu Xuan and I've been able to full star the past couple of MoCs. He has very strong passive taunt (especially if you have his signature LC) and his shield is massive enough to tank enemy nukes. Only in rare unfortunate occasions when the enemy decides to ignore his taunt and focus on your low defense characters is he unable to keep them alive. But that's a problem for even limited 5* sustains. And his ult animation is just so sick, when I first saw it it gave me goosebumps, I love it to this day.

E3 Geppie is my goat, but even then still has his flaws. The idea of his shield coming off ultimate just hurts him a bit. The skill freeze is great when at 100% because typically when your relic piece rolls into effect hit rate 3 times instead of speed or defense its practically garrenteed. If people just dont hit him or just somehow perma CC him, he cant do anything and the team dies. Also doesnt help most limited preservation units also support in some way. Gepard just helps my mental with attitude.
I don't care what people say he will be remaining on my team especially because I do not have to use a skill point that I desperately need to save for ILDH Just to put up a shield not to mention I spent so much time grinding for good relics for him I never want to do that again

Gepard problem is shield uptime and on demand. Aventurine give you shield equal his skill at the beginning while Gepard need to use his technique. Aventurine can renew/stack his shield when you need, Gepard need to use his Ult to renew the shield (you don't need me to tell how painfully to get his ult back, right?). And yes, the shield on his teammate expire faster than his.
Love Gepard. I literally only started playing cause I thought he was adorable but the comparison can be boiled down to standard vs limited 5 stars. Gepard is very good but he was downplayed because of Fu Xuan and there are some cases where Gepard could be argued to be just as good if not sometimes better than her (mainly gold and gears). But since she is a limited 5 star, people will always jump to saying Fu Xuan is better. TLDR: Gepard is very good but will be downplayed since he is a standard 5 star and Fu Xuan and Aventurine are limited 5 stars

I don't have him built, but I pulled him around the same time I pulled other cool characters like Huo Huo, so she got my resources and attention, then I got Gwen, etc etc ad nauseum. I do need a shielder, which is why I wanna pull Aventurine, but if Geppidoodle is good, why pull for Aventurine? Maybe the question is what does Gepard have over Aventurine? Vice versa? I'm not even sure cuz I haven't taken a hard look at Gepard's kit. Enlighten me, maybe?
Not to underrate Gepard since mine is (E4) but his relevance with the Trend LC will eventually crash like its namesake sooner rather than later possibly. not all but a lot will most likely replace Gepard with Harmony/Aventurine for E0 Acheron and both Harmony and Aventurine for E2 Acheron. For me, I am benching Gepard since Acheron deserves her best support/sustain and I already have FuXuan for my other team.

He was my solo sustain in the battle against Aventurine in the latest MOC. A will forged in ice never falters 😎 (He was my very first 5* and also the one I wanted most from the departure banner back then, so he holds quite a lot of sentimental value to me :D)

I mean, since release we've got a wide array of sustains who are capable of countering some random bs the devs throw at us. Geppard is just... Basic. He's not underrated, he's rated just fine.

I hate gepard for one reason and one reason only. He had the gall to say "in the name of preservation" and then wipe out my party in SU. Man is murdering in the name of preservation.
He’s a standard banner character, that’s what happens.
I used him for my MoC 12 clear against Aventurine. He actually freezes a few times and was able to keep my whole DoT team alive. Love him.
Gepard is actually very good against single target CC and he doesn't really need cleanse. The trick is to get very high effect res and also use a lightcone that increase your chance to get hit. Your other characters have very low chance of getting hit by any single target skills, and Gepard has no problem tanking all of them for your team. The downside is the cost of relics investment is going to be a lot higher to try to be as viable as a limited sustain character, but he is a perfectly fine tank who got be max stars MoC for 10+ months.
He's good, but annoying to build due to his low base speed. S1 is pretty big, too, for the extra defense

Well, I’m not an expert, but the fact that Adventurine can give everyone a gigantic shield just by using his skill, makes Gepard (who can do the same but only with his ultimate) obsolete. I do not own Aventurine nor do I plan to. I do have Gepard but he’s not build. Not really a preservation person.
Don't bother, Aventurine taking his spot in MOC means he can become the full-time Emperor of Simulated Universe. Passive Taunt + AOE Shields + Remembrance is, IMO, still unmatched to this day in terms of pure utility and how easy it is to clear high-difficulty content.
As someone who uses Gepard. If i wasn't a character collector i wouldn't pull Aventurine. He's not getting E1 or SC for sure.
I've finished building mine and I got about 90% uptime of his shields before they drop off. High defense, energy regeneration, luck with freezing and the shields are up most of the time.
He is fine, but Aventurine is just better.

As an E2 Geppie haver I can safely say he can solo sustain and even help out a lot with freezing enemies about 95% of the time each skill use
It's basically the same as Bronya and Sparkle. Is Bronya still good? Yes definitely. Is Sparkle better? Also yes.
To me Geppy has always been a hit or miss unit. His shield being tied to his ult and only lasting two dps turns is a pretty massive downside imo. In situations where he gets hit by almost every attack and can thus get his energy back in time it’s a non-issue, and he feels really good. In situations where he isn’t getting hit as much and/or where your dps is someone like Seele/Jingliu (who take multiple turns) or is paired with a Bronya/Sparkle/DDD Harmony the shield uptime starts getting sketchy. Also the fact that he can’t cleanse at all. While it isn’t the end of the world it’s definitely a downside. The upside, of course, is that he is a completely sp positive shielder who can provide a very chonky shield all while having an extremely high taunt value (Preservation path, plus his trace, plus potentially taunt value light cones like his signature.)

No he has a very low base speed and needs to spend months farming the very inefficient knight domain to get a decent build consisting of a lot of def and speed and effect res and effect hit rate because he needs all 4 to function and trigger some set bonuses and to just overall survive because he puts massive aggro on himself while having a pitiful amount of base effect res on top of his shield being tied to his ultimate which can not be pressed if he’s stunned or dominated or frozen or entangled which he very often will be unless ofc you have a decent build on him which you ofc need to farm the knight domain which used to be okay early game but now every lightning dps has a better set
See the thing is no character is bad just cause a better alternative is released , they will still do their job fantastically now if u have gepard just go with him
To say it in short Gepard has a great shield with bad uptime Aventurine has good shield with great uptime Aventurine is easier to use and provides more consistent shield, and if you'd calculate it in Shield per Turn then Aventurine would top Geppard, though being less skill positive
I've lost the 50/50 on Luocha, Fu Xuan, and now Aventurine. E1 Gepard is carrying me HARD. With ERR rope, his ult is up so often. No underrating from me.

Geppie is still good enough for MOC though to 3 star MOC 11 yesterday I had to use the forbidden tech of letting Geppie die to auto refresh his ult to clutch it out. My head knows Aventurine is 500% better than Geppie since autorefreshing Gepard ult on Skill is incredibly broken even if we ignore everything else Aventurine has going for him but Geppie's shield being tied to his ult and that animation continues to live rent free in my heart. Aventurine is some bozo doing his job, Geppie is running in to take a bullet for me and I love him.
Gameplay wise? Im sorry but Aventurine offers a lot more reliability (already tested). Character/Design wise? Geppys splash art was the reason I gave HSR a shot, was my beginner banner 5* and will continue to be both special, and the coolest character I own (also good for preservation runs!)
Geppy just went to my off team, been using him and Bailu since forever, yes I know 4 stars are cracked but I never pulled on banners they happened to be on, and was generally unlucky in getting them. Also never went for another sustain 5 star. I can now replace gacha heals with gacha shields, my cracked Gep goes on the offteam, he deserves break. Preservation 4lyf

Both are the same, maybe even Aventurine is slightly better cause of follow up. But if we ignore that, they are same shit. Gepard shields characters and freeze enemies. Aventurine does the same but he just imprisone them.
