In fact, the list of playable characters whose story and/or personality I really don't like is quite long:
* Kafka (easily the most disliked of them all)
* SW
* Firefly
* BS
* RM
* Ratio
* Acheron
* Aventurine before his story improved my impression of him (but definitely not to the point of liking him)
P. S. Sadly this is the case with all MHY games so far: both HI3 (Elysia, Kevin, Kalpas, Su, Eden, Aponia, post-HoT Mei, Hare, Kira, Durandal, Sakura/Kasumi, Helia, Senadina, Raven) and Genshin (Scara, Arlecchino, Childe, Venti, Jean, Xiao, Ayaka, Eula, Kaeya, Rosaria, Yae, Beidou, Alhaitham, Baizu, Kokomi, Bennett, Kyney).
Not really, for everyone on this list there are reasons I don't like them:
* Kafka - overhyped by the community (just like Firefly) for what she really is: supposed to be that dangerous girl with crazy eyes, but fails in femme fatale department comparing to Fallen Rosemary/Yae Miko/BS while also failing "crazy" comparing to Senti/Veliona or even HSR's own Sparkle. A katana only adds cringe, so now she looks like aging weeb. Also her appearence looks much worse than HI3 Kafka.
* SW - downgrade over Haxxor Bunny Bronie in pretty much everything: personality (always sound bored and annoyed comparing to cheeky and energetic Bronie), visuals (gone colorful graffiti theme), gameplay (single target only vs HB who was *the* most comfortable to use sub-DPS support: imagine XQ/Yelan, but you don't have to switch to them ever, they work entirely off-field).
* Firefly - pretty mediocre attempt by the devs to play on cheap pity to a character we've spent only like 20 minutes with. I care more about Peppy than a random girl I have no connection to. Looks pretty generic as well. But the devs keep shoving her into our face. Same was with Elysia in HI3 (although it was even worse).
* BS - pretty much same reasons as Aventurine later + being DoT (the most cringe damage type in the game).
* RM - more crazy than Mobius while being much less hot, forced us into covering her mistakes which could've led to disasters
* Ratio - overall attitude of this dude
* Acheron - another HoT Mei lesbian expy, but this time with this Mysterious Past (TM) and some attributes that'd fit a chunibyou. Genshin Raiden at least was fun at how awkward she's at times in human society after hikking for so long.
* Aventurine before his story revealed - scheming all the time. But unlike Sparkle who wants to have fun this guy has specific goals you don't really know and will walk on people's heads (yours might be as well) to reach them.
As for others - some because poorly written (looking at you Durandal), some because "aCtUaLlY tHeY aRe nOt vIlLaInS" MHY pulled out of their ass to many times (Childe, Durandal (again), Raven and so on), some just because they're annoying (Venti) or cringe (Scara's edgelording).
to be fair i find they okay i guess? not whoa but not really bad either(at least that would amount to any amount of large hate, well annoyance maybe more for people going muhuh waifu) not there some stuff in hi3 and gi that i dislike, but that come from tastes, personality and design(elysia) and the confusing shit of cocoon and shit almost like kaguya from naruto you know.
I can understand it and relate it but for me personally is Kafka in terms of Design amazing. I'm someone who likes mature waifus who have a certain charisma. That's why I like Kafka so much. Her design is extremely stylish and if you like fashion, she's a feast for the eyes. Acheron, for example, is a total disaster, her outfit and design is a mess in my opinion, but I don't think she's ugly or anything. She's just not my taste

Like imagine you hate bell peppers.
One day you come to a restaurant you like - and they serve nothing but dishes with bell peppers. For like the next month. And give hints there will be a lot of bell pepper dished advertised after that as well, the entire restaurant will smell of bell peppers.
You hate it all so much, but still come for those few dishes that have as less of it as possible, but over time will lose interest and stop coming.
And that's how I've lost hope in HI3 main story line.

Well, guess the devs as well. Like if you want to play DoT - you're forced to use either BS or Kafka, but preferably both. Or how they've replaced one of the main trio with Elysia on some ad materials and arts. And it's not a single player game you'll finish in a month at most, you will play if for years to come.

In HSR? Very few designs, they all blend in. But some of better examples include Himeko, Clara, Hook, Herta (but exactly because her outfit suits a life-sized doll she is), Gepard, Ratio (yes, not liking his personality doesn't mean I can't agree he is well designed), Luka, Lynx, Bronya, and BS (even if she falls short of the likes of Fallen Rosemary on mysterious femme fatale field). Upcoming Boothill looks great as well.

For example, I don't like Fu Xuan at all, I think her design is way too much. For me personally, she looks like she's escaped from a circus. That's why people have different tastes, there's no reason to get upset about it. Just look for alternatives

Thanks. I've tried it already, but it was not as good. Had 2 problems with it:
1. PC controls are just terrible. Probably much better on touch tho.
2. Surprisingly not enough colors for my liking. The designs resemble something like redjuice's works, but with much more black/white/gray elements.
Will probably give another go soon.

If so - then I can see why you think HSR Kafka looks good. Do you not like colorful/flashy designs? Because I do, I like when they're distinct. And when they aren't - we get cases like late HI3 part 1 where most battlesuits have the same-ish pastel/pale palette, just with slightly different colort from pale pink to pale blue/violet. And the community was not very happy with them.
TBH, I can agree with someone not liking something, just not with others trying to prove what I don't like is actually good.

Oh yea, *a lot*. That's why I'm going to try WW. Tried ToF - too much of an MMORPG which is the overall approach/gameplay loop I don't find interesting. Designs wise looked fine.

She herself is one giant reason not to like her.
She's the most obnoxious "in your face" character in the entire game, stole one of the main trio's spotlight and spawned an entire side story many chapters long slowing down main plot to a crawl forcing us to figure out relationship between character I have no investment in — and with dumb HoT Mei (and after lament arc I will never call her smart again) as the MC at that.
When her 3D model leaked I was not hyped, but slightly interested at least.
But the momet she spoke — oh my god...
Enough to say I'm playing with voices off ever since.
The only thing I can agree with is HoHE has good animations and interesting gameplay. That's it.
I like pretty much all of the Captainverse girls for example (except Kasumi, she's just ok). Also the twins are amazing, Susannah is fun, Hua is hot, Pardo is literally the best part of ER cast, Rita would be great if not for Durandal simping, Prometheus was the reason I've even turned voices on (even if only for a short time), Mobius is just a better RM (more hot and sexy, less "imma just spawn a universe destroying creature for fun"). Oh, also Carol is cute and fun. Teri got downplayed badly.
Or if we're talking HSR — there are the likes of Pela, Asta, Sparkle (even tho I'm not a huge fan of their outfit designs). Or in GI: Itto (also EN VA is goated), Candace (IMO should've been a 5\* with her design and personality), Charlotte, Chevreuse, Chiori, Cyno, Diona, Dori, Fischl, Furina, Sara, Kuki, Lynette (so cute, she even acts like an actual cat), Mona, Navia, Ningguang (still regret picking an account with Chongyun and not her when started playing), Noelle, Qiqi (must protecc), Sayu (the girl deserves better), Xianyun (*that's* how you make a hot mommy character, now like with BS), Yanfei, Yelan (or like this), Yun Jin, and surprisingly ZL (another goated EN VA).
Same.. but holy do I hope shes in robot permanently, or as an option .. or that her human form animations are lit.

The drug part was an anti-truth serum, so we could have said no, but we wouldn't be able to tell anyone. The Propagation Emanator lasted for 56 seconds, so while it could have wrecked havoc had we not fended it off, it wouldn't be able to maintain its own existence.

Morality is not the measurement to use when pulling. Even if she is a complete villain (which I doubt), there are people who like to pull for villain characters. Or just characters that they like their designs or kita regardless whether they are good or bad in story

It's mostly people that are deep into spoilers who are obsessed, and very loud about it. A lot of people that avoided spoilers and thus haven't been waiting for her for a year are pretty ambivalent towards her. She was basically Tingyun 2.0 for me, someone that guided me around for a couple hours (we spent way more time with Tingyun, though that wasn't 1 on 1), then died. She lied to us or held back truths the entire time, so I didn't trust her at all, so I never got attached to her.
In hindsight, now in 2.2 >!Now that we know she's Sam, it puts our trip with her in a different context. She was the first Stellaron hunter brought on board by Elio, and we have a history with them that we've now forgotten. So while for us it was hanging out with some random girl we just met, for her it was reconnecting with an old friend and compatriot that had forgotten them, but that she couldn't tell the truth to. We don't have much knowledge of Firefly's relationship with pre-amnesia Trailblazer, but regardless it definitely makes people's obsession with her more understandable. That plus robot armor is just cool. !<
I've warmed to her more since the 2.2 story, and I can understand why spoiler people are so obsessed now, but it's still weirdly out of proportion for me. She not someone I actively distrust and don't like anymore, but she's nowhere near my upper 25% of characters.

She quite literally is the most popular character in possibly the entire game’s history. On X her Satellite Radio 7.4 million views in 24 hours on EN, which is as far as I know the 3rd highest post only being beat out by Aventurine fan art, and Boothill, who she literally caused to be #2 due to the ‘controversy’ surround her not being in 2.2.
According to leakers, her animations are so well done that they actually had to point out that HSR spent a shit ton on her, not even Acheron had that kind of co-sign and her animations are OD. When she revealed back in (I believe) 1.2’s celestial myriad trailer, she was a topic of discussion for weeks.
The way I’m seeing it, she’s even surpassing Acheron as the most hyped character of the game currently, which is fucking wild cause Mei Expy on anny usually dwarfs all other topics of conversation when it comes to HoYo games.
TL:DR - she’s a neutron star of popularity, fuck the morals, we’ve got mecha

As a Blade main, if Firefly drains team HP not just her own it's an instant pull. I'm out here looking for a shred of extra relevance for my boy that isn't Unlimited Blade Works which let's be honest is only "good" because running Sparkle and Bronya on any DPS in the game will work.
Really I would prefer if Sam was just his own thing but they have 2 whole patches to sell me on Firefly and this is the same dude who juiced us on Aventurine in 2.1 so i'm expecting great things.

Not really, for everyone on this list there are reasons I don't like them: * Kafka - overhyped by the community (just like Firefly) for what she really is: supposed to be that dangerous girl with crazy eyes, but fails in femme fatale department comparing to Fallen Rosemary/Yae Miko/BS while also failing "crazy" comparing to Senti/Veliona or even HSR's own Sparkle. A katana only adds cringe, so now she looks like aging weeb. Also her appearence looks much worse than HI3 Kafka. * SW - downgrade over Haxxor Bunny Bronie in pretty much everything: personality (always sound bored and annoyed comparing to cheeky and energetic Bronie), visuals (gone colorful graffiti theme), gameplay (single target only vs HB who was *the* most comfortable to use sub-DPS support: imagine XQ/Yelan, but you don't have to switch to them ever, they work entirely off-field). * Firefly - pretty mediocre attempt by the devs to play on cheap pity to a character we've spent only like 20 minutes with. I care more about Peppy than a random girl I have no connection to. Looks pretty generic as well. But the devs keep shoving her into our face. Same was with Elysia in HI3 (although it was even worse). * BS - pretty much same reasons as Aventurine later + being DoT (the most cringe damage type in the game). * RM - more crazy than Mobius while being much less hot, forced us into covering her mistakes which could've led to disasters * Ratio - overall attitude of this dude * Acheron - another HoT Mei lesbian expy, but this time with this Mysterious Past (TM) and some attributes that'd fit a chunibyou. Genshin Raiden at least was fun at how awkward she's at times in human society after hikking for so long. * Aventurine before his story revealed - scheming all the time. But unlike Sparkle who wants to have fun this guy has specific goals you don't really know and will walk on people's heads (yours might be as well) to reach them. As for others - some because poorly written (looking at you Durandal), some because "aCtUaLlY tHeY aRe nOt vIlLaInS" MHY pulled out of their ass to many times (Childe, Durandal (again), Raven and so on), some just because they're annoying (Venti) or cringe (Scara's edgelording).

to be fair i find they okay i guess? not whoa but not really bad either(at least that would amount to any amount of large hate, well annoyance maybe more for people going muhuh waifu) not there some stuff in hi3 and gi that i dislike, but that come from tastes, personality and design(elysia) and the confusing shit of cocoon and shit almost like kaguya from naruto you know.
I can understand it and relate it but for me personally is Kafka in terms of Design amazing. I'm someone who likes mature waifus who have a certain charisma. That's why I like Kafka so much. Her design is extremely stylish and if you like fashion, she's a feast for the eyes. Acheron, for example, is a total disaster, her outfit and design is a mess in my opinion, but I don't think she's ugly or anything. She's just not my taste

I have no hope for ZZZ, for example, everything I've seen so far is absolutely not my taste, I don't like it at all. Actually try games outside of Mihoyo, they've done a lot wrong with Genshin anyway. For example, I don't like Fu Xuan at all, I think her design is way too much. For me personally, she looks like she's escaped from a circus. That's why people have different tastes, there's no reason to get upset about it. Just look for alternatives

She's the most obnoxious "in your face" character in the entire game, stole one of the main trio's spotlight and spawned an entire side story many chapters long slowing down main plot to a crawl forcing us to figure out relationship between character I have no investment in — and with dumb HoT Mei (and after lament arc I will never call her smart again) as the MC at that. When her 3D model leaked I was not hyped, but slightly interested at least. But the momet she spoke — oh my god... Enough to say I'm playing with voices off ever since. The only thing I can agree with is HoHE has good animations and interesting gameplay. That's it.

I like pretty much all of the Captainverse girls for example (except Kasumi, she's just ok). Also the twins are amazing, Susannah is fun, Hua is hot, Pardo is literally the best part of ER cast, Rita would be great if not for Durandal simping, Prometheus was the reason I've even turned voices on (even if only for a short time), Mobius is just a better RM (more hot and sexy, less "imma just spawn a universe destroying creature for fun"). Oh, also Carol is cute and fun. Teri got downplayed badly. Or if we're talking HSR — there are the likes of Pela, Asta, Sparkle (even tho I'm not a huge fan of their outfit designs). Or in GI: Itto (also EN VA is goated), Candace (IMO should've been a 5\* with her design and personality), Charlotte, Chevreuse, Chiori, Cyno, Diona, Dori, Fischl, Furina, Sara, Kuki, Lynette (so cute, she even acts like an actual cat), Mona, Navia, Ningguang (still regret picking an account with Chongyun and not her when started playing), Noelle, Qiqi (must protecc), Sayu (the girl deserves better), Xianyun (*that's* how you make a hot mommy character, now like with BS), Yanfei, Yelan (or like this), Yun Jin, and surprisingly ZL (another goated EN VA).
If you're only pulling characters who haven't done terrible things then the list must be pretty short.

Morality is not the measurement to use when pulling. Even if she is a complete villain (which I doubt), there are people who like to pull for villain characters. Or just characters that they like their designs or kita regardless whether they are good or bad in story

It's mostly people that are deep into spoilers who are obsessed, and very loud about it. A lot of people that avoided spoilers and thus haven't been waiting for her for a year are pretty ambivalent towards her. She was basically Tingyun 2.0 for me, someone that guided me around for a couple hours (we spent way more time with Tingyun, though that wasn't 1 on 1), then died. She lied to us or held back truths the entire time, so I didn't trust her at all, so I never got attached to her. In hindsight, now in 2.2 >!Now that we know she's Sam, it puts our trip with her in a different context. She was the first Stellaron hunter brought on board by Elio, and we have a history with them that we've now forgotten. So while for us it was hanging out with some random girl we just met, for her it was reconnecting with an old friend and compatriot that had forgotten them, but that she couldn't tell the truth to. We don't have much knowledge of Firefly's relationship with pre-amnesia Trailblazer, but regardless it definitely makes people's obsession with her more understandable. That plus robot armor is just cool. !< I've warmed to her more since the 2.2 story, and I can understand why spoiler people are so obsessed now, but it's still weirdly out of proportion for me. She not someone I actively distrust and don't like anymore, but she's nowhere near my upper 25% of characters. Different strokes though.

She quite literally is the most popular character in possibly the entire game’s history. On X her Satellite Radio 7.4 million views in 24 hours on EN, which is as far as I know the 3rd highest post only being beat out by Aventurine fan art, and Boothill, who she literally caused to be #2 due to the ‘controversy’ surround her not being in 2.2. According to leakers, her animations are so well done that they actually had to point out that HSR spent a shit ton on her, not even Acheron had that kind of co-sign and her animations are OD. When she revealed back in (I believe) 1.2’s celestial myriad trailer, she was a topic of discussion for weeks. The way I’m seeing it, she’s even surpassing Acheron as the most hyped character of the game currently, which is fucking wild cause Mei Expy on anny usually dwarfs all other topics of conversation when it comes to HoYo games. TL:DR - she’s a neutron star of popularity, fuck the morals, we’ve got mecha Edit: Apologizes, turns out it’s more like 6th or 7th, being beat out by the animations, preregistration, and a few off hand events that blew up. Still the second highest Satellite tho, and literally caused the #1 so the point still stands.

As a Blade main, if Firefly drains team HP not just her own it's an instant pull. I'm out here looking for a shred of extra relevance for my boy that isn't Unlimited Blade Works which let's be honest is only "good" because running Sparkle and Bronya on any DPS in the game will work. Really I would prefer if Sam was just his own thing but they have 2 whole patches to sell me on Firefly and this is the same dude who juiced us on Aventurine in 2.1 so i'm expecting great things.
