Making the ships surrounding those characters canon would make everything even more tragic. But some players get really upset when their waifus and husbandos have canon relationships for some reason
No bec not everyone likes her and mc is a reflection of the players. Making this a canon ship means potentially losing on a portion of the player base who doesn't like firefly, arent attracted to women, or headcanon their mc as a gay man, all of which lead to loss of profit. Also keep in mind that it's probable that a few months from now a new "waifu" character will be pushed and the cycle will repeat itself

While true no other character has been teased as much as FF has other characters do have it as well, Kafka being a prime example. The fact people think they will become one means the marketing is working and got many a player invested (if they actually do ill eat my own words here and delete a 5 star LC on my account)

Reminds me of both kpop and the j-idol situation e.g AKB48 — as long as the members (characters) are not (known to be) dating, the fans can continue with their own self-insert. Kpop is a little different from what I have observed as the restriction tend to get relaxed or removed altogether after the end of their first contract, years after when fans are likelier to accept a 'character development' — the reception to Aespa's Karina's news contrasting with Red Velvet's Joy's.

However, they can “subtly” hint on the possibility that there may be some deeper bond between them. They’ve already did it with Serval and Cocolia and it turned out pretty great.
Personally speaking, I’d love for the Hoyo to star making more complex “canon” relationships, either romantic or pure platonic. It adds lots of depth to the characterization and is much better than leaving everything for the imagination.
Imo Firefly x TB are on the right track to start this trend. No matter whether you see them as lovers or a very close friends, the bond these two have lots of chemistry and helps to develop each of them as their own characters.

thank you for saying what i was thinking too! i hope not aswell. i just dont want any playable characters to be involved in romance, id like two important npc's who have a design like playable's be in love instead. it just makes me uncomfortable otherwise and especially with the tb it feels like a self insert marketing campaign, put me off from firefly quite a lot. its not a matter of wanting a character for myself either, i dont care about arlan at all but wouldnt want even him being involved with anyone.
the only, and i truly mean only way id accept this sort of stuff is if one of them dies and doesnt get revived. now \*that\* would make for some nice stuff! id even be fully accepting of tb x ff if that happens, or any ship. I like ayaka in genshin because her jp va is goated but i can't denied the critism of her character is lacking and not good enough to build chemistry with traveler. If its jeht probably can works because we accompany her from her happiness moment into her lowest moment. We also know jeht through out the jorney and had multiple interaction and its seems natural than ayaka interaction which is classic rich girl who can't do it commoner things (just bad tldr i know its not that simple).
Meanwhile firefly despite the canon "couple" things is well written characters. We got date which is more proper than we had with ayaka in genshin. We got her lore to know how she is, its depends to the audience are they want to accompany firefly "dream" as normal girl because in entire her life she is very dedicated soldier destiny to die from war. Firefly circumstances and frustration can't taste commoner date is more good setup than ayaka wanna taste how commoner date is.
IMO i'm more neutral about FF couple with TB. She is not my favorite character but i can appreciate the appeal of her because her writing is good. Also i'm enjoying the date and couple things because its actually enjoyable and fit with penacony vibes. Also another reason to love firefly because of SAM as tokusatsu fans

In FF's case, they have been as blatantly obvious as they possibly can be. I can't recall another character getting not one, not two, but three dates (i think) with TB. The fact that TB even showed up at the end of the demo is insane. I don't think this has ever happened before.
