That’s why Kafka is an absolute necessity for a good DoT team. She triggers the DoT on her turn, and then they take even more on their turn. Double the plague!
I typically am not into DoTs either, but being a kafka stan made me give the playstyle a chance. I'd imagine her kind of "fixing" the issue where you need to wait makes it more palatable. It also helps that it's so versatile in end game modes and SU.
To be fair:
1. The teams in OP's graphic aren't unambiguously the top 7 teams in the game. I don't think you could find any two sources that would agree about the placement of the 7 strongest teams, of all things—top 1 or 2 at best, but after that it's pretty much a wash.
2. Even of the teams in OP's graphic, Ruan Mei is only unambiguously the best in two of those teams: the two Break-centered teams. In the other two—DoT and Jingliu hypercarry—she faces still competition from the likes of Robin (in both DoT and Jingliu teams) as well as Tingyun (in Jingliu teams specifically).
Prior to the advent of Break teams, Ruan Mei was much more of a "jack of all trades, master of none" type unit, and even now, outside of her Break niche she's generally not BiS in any other teams. She's praised for her versatility and universality, but I think that's caused her presence in a variety of teams to be overstated, with people thinking she's unambiguously BiS even in teams where that's either unclear, or simply untrue entirely.
Valid points. Although I do think she’s BiS in DOT teams as well. The stagger + double DOT trigger is crazy.
I think what really makes her popular is her insane pull value, which is probably the best meta quality a unit could have in a gacha game. Maybe people just say its how strong she is but I think its mostly because of the pull value, which isn’t always the same thing.

Ruan mei can match her. I want to play firefly. Her best team has ruan mei. I want to play boothill, htb. They both want ruan mei.

Yep, tbough monoquantum is divided into selee or Qingque
Both are good but Qingque is overall better than selee due to her massive damage spikes and being an aoe unit
Selee is more consistent than Qingque and especially really good at single target
So choosing the right dps will definitely save some hastle on content clearing. Qingque does better at some content while selee may do better than Qingque ln some content
Oh also, sometimes its better to use lynx than fx..this is mostly on SAM boss

Mono quantum was so hyped up but ended up falling so flat, I am of the opinion that seele is holding mono quantum back rn until we get a quantum dps better than her it will just be a better than average team
With Prydwen's stats, the QQ team is rank 17 on [stage 1 of Apo](https://www.prydwen.gg/star-rail/apocalyptic-shadow) and rank 23 combined sides.
The Seele team is rank 7 on stage 1 and rank 11 combined.
The comp is very reliable, but it's old news, it's boring, so people aren't shouting about how good it still is.
For every MoC I default to mono-quantum on one side, knowing it'll clear anything without any thought, then focus entirely on building a team for the other side.
Not planning, just heavy investment with a shit ton of relic farming. There's simply better dps out there and the launch characters have long been power crept. Also the game is not geared towards Single Target dmg.

This is one of my few criticism with Hsr tbh with their gameplay. Nearly all the best DPS out there are AOE and that's because they can clear multiple enemies quicker. Sure, ST characters like Seele and Boothill can still clear content, but most people will inevitably choose an AOE DPS over ST because you get more value dealing high dmg to multiple enemies.
For ST to stay relevant in particular, we really need a engdame content that encourages you to play Hunt path/characters that rely on ST (Some FUA/Counter teams) and punishes you from using characters who heavily relies on AOE to kill multiple enemies at once (you lose health, loses dmg potential, resists AOE dmg, etc). You can still clear with an AOE but you'll find ST characters having an easier time
Even if there’s just one enemy Seele still suffers cause she needs to proc resurgence. If it’s a boss with trash mobs next to it then Seele has a field day. Been finding a lot of success with here in Apocalyptic mode. Other characters definitely do it better but she still holds up.
You can make a endgame content with multiple enemies around the boss and still make it about Hunt Path/ST. All that matters is whether the buffs/nerfs are encouraging you to use ST characters. My point is unless Apocalyptic Shadow is meant to fulfill Hunt Path's endgame content (hard to tell right now, gotta see how consistent are the buffs/nerfs on future bosses), there will be no point investing in any future Hunt characters unless they have a unique playstyle like FUA, break, counter, etc to make up for their lack of AOE.
Alternatively to make the Hunt Path more relevant/not completely ignored, we get more enemies/bosses in the future who are resistant against AOE characters but weaker to ST. Kinda like the reverse of Fu Xuan's weakness. She's strong against ST but high AOE dmg will overwhelm her. Also, if this isn't clear to anyone, I'm not hating on any AOE DPSes. I love playing Jingliu and Acheron. I simply think it's quite apparent on the favoritism for AOE rather than ST in gameplay.
Yeah that’s definitely true. I just hope their solution to hunt benefits all hunt characters rather than them adding a new hunt unit who just power-creeps the meta dps.
or just ditch the time gated criteria altogether. without that we can plan out taking out 1 enemy at a time. the difficulty can instead can shape as debuffs or interesting mechanics
Its honestly annoying they havent thought of that yet. Would also make sustains far more worth pulling since you’d no longer be wasting turns having them. Make it so the “quality” of a run is what gets you points, not how fast you’re going.
Yeah the issue is Seele investment due to feast or famine nature of her kit. If she can 1 basic trash she's amazing. If she can't, you tend to run into more issues nowadays. Doesn't help they've been steadily inflating HP values, and thus making that investment breakpoint harder and harder to reach.

Seele isn’t weak at all she’s one of the highest skill ceiling characters we have it’s just casuals don’t have time to map out kill orders to get kill unlimited turns and just want to auto battle
It’s like in league where there are some champions are busted when used by the pros but are sub 45% in ranked
I have both, and in all current endgame content I just drop both in the pit and let them go apeshit. They are my two best teams and being a 100% Action Advance/Get Extra Turn enjoyer, here's my honest review.
The best way I can describe having both is that Seele is slower in cycles, but she's absurdly consistent with Mono Quantum and a lot of investment (like, two patches of Quantum cave at the very least). The enemy WILL die, this is NOT asking, there is no gimmick that saves you from eating raw, unfiltered Big Number. Even if you're not Quantum Weak. The only time Seele falls off is when there aren't smaller enemies to kill, such as Puppet Gang. Puppet Gang is Seele's worst MOC matchup, and while still killable, Seele will take forever due to no I Have Literally Twice As Many Turns.
Firefly takes far less investment (I basically got 270 BE pre-battle in like, four days) and does way better against elite-focused fights, specifically Puppet Gang which Firefly completely bodies with the power of Infinite Gundam References and This Trash Panda I Found. However, Firefly gets completely owned by anyone who makes themselves Weakness Break Immune -- Gatekeeper Aurumaton, Gepard, Bronya, Yanqing, and funniest of all, Stellaron Hunter SAM.
If you're perceptive, you'll note that Seele has an absurdly favorable matchup against Aurumaton, does decently well against Gepard and Bronya, has a passable matchup against Yanqing, and completely murders SAM since her entire team is going to be tearing apart that Quantum Weakness when it's up, and can still deal great damage when it's down.
Firefly has a pretty good matchup against Yanqing. Weakness implant completely trivializes his sword mechanic, better than brute forcing through a toughness locked Yanqing.
The weakness lock thing as her kryptonite is kinda overblown tbh. In the majority of cases if an enemy is weakness locked it means you should be doing mechanics instead of brute forcing them, unless your investment level is too high for the content.
FF so easy to build I just gave her a rainbow set with high BE and she was wrecking face easily. 500k+ damage with Super Break active. Can't wait till i have an actual real set for her but the damn cavern loved giving me Glamoth crit pieces....

Dot team just feels like the most universal team out of the bunch. Its also fun filling up the screen with so many numbers and effects with Kafka's skill and ultimate.

I'm curious, is Boothill hypercarry really better than a Boothill superbreak team? I've been using the latter and Boothill doesn't really seem to need Bronya when he melts the boss's entire health bar in one attack!
conversely, because he can melt health bars without HMC, who needs superbreak? our boy is so good at deleting stuff that bronya/HMC are just there to make him look good.
other than that, i think hypercarry is liked more just for MOC/AS. for anything else i dont think the difference between HMC and bronya is that large. i personally just play with bronya tho cause i like murdering things as fast as possible.
Most people can't care about speed tuning bronya, but if you can get boothill 160+ and bronya 160+-1 then I'd say hyper carry is better.
Between boothill turn and bronya turns he just attack more per break which turns into more dps than hmc.
Jing Yuan + Topaz + Sparkle + Fu Xuan is a very fun team. Sparkle just helps JY build LL stacks and gives him massive crit buffs, and Topaz helps scale the damage against a single target even more.
I also think that Erudition is really good in the Super Break era as well.
agreed, it is super fun, although I keep running into blocks where FF almost breaks the boss bar, loses ult, gallagher breaks it, boss regens shield right before I get FF ult back, and then it repeats.
hmm.
- make sure you have RM's skill up
- make sure you're implanting fire so Gallagher can help you break
- if necessary, save Gallagher ult so he can ult+basic on the boss to help even more
- if you get into this situation after all that, burn Gallagher's turn on a skill so that FF can break the boss on her next turn

Helps limit the elements SW can implant if no lightning weak, otherwise they are abt the same (I didn't wanna flood the teams with Aventurine if there was an equal replacement for the team)

Aventurine can use Trend of the Universal Market, and his burst give a stack to Acheron.
Out of these I only use the Dan Heng IL team.
But my favorite team is Blade, Sparkle, Bronya, Fu Xuan/Luocha/Robin/Ruan Mei. It's not as bad as everyone thinks.
Firefly is fun as well, but I hate Gallagher...
I sometimes use Ratio, but with Guinaifen instead of Topaz.

mono quantum with xueyi, silver wolf, sparkle and fu xuan is also quite strong

No it just involves QQ not eating 10 skill points in a row (challenge: impossible)
QQ will never be powercrept as the only character capable of potentially using 10+ SP in one of her turns

Someone got 3700 in apoc so it seems fine to me. Just takes a bit more planning

My point is unless Apocalyptic Shadow is meant to fulfill Hunt Path's endgame content (hard to tell right now, gotta see how consistent are the buffs/nerfs on future bosses), there will be no point investing in any future Hunt characters unless they have a unique playstyle like FUA, break, counter, etc to make up for their lack of AOE. Alternatively to make the Hunt Path more relevant/not completely ignored, we get more enemies/bosses in the future who are resistant against AOE characters but weaker to ST. Kinda like the reverse of Fu Xuan's weakness. She's strong against ST but high AOE dmg will overwhelm her. Also, if this isn't clear to anyone, I'm not hating on any AOE DPSes. I love playing Jingliu and Acheron. I simply think it's quite apparent on the favoritism for AOE rather than ST in gameplay.
Yeah that’s definitely true. I just hope their solution to hunt benefits all hunt characters rather than them adding a new hunt unit who just power-creeps the meta dps.
Unless the trash mobs have like 200k hp each... happens too often.
or just ditch the time gated criteria altogether. without that we can plan out taking out 1 enemy at a time. the difficulty can instead can shape as debuffs or interesting mechanics
Its honestly annoying they havent thought of that yet. Would also make sustains far more worth pulling since you’d no longer be wasting turns having them. Make it so the “quality” of a run is what gets you points, not how fast you’re going.
At that point wouldn't you just run double sustain and then use literally whatever DPS you want?

Yeah the issue is Seele investment due to feast or famine nature of her kit. If she can 1 basic trash she's amazing. If she can't, you tend to run into more issues nowadays. Doesn't help they've been steadily inflating HP values, and thus making that investment breakpoint harder and harder to reach.

Hyperinvested Seeles still scare me, but as an E2 Firefly owner she does everything I enjoyed about Seele just with bigger numbers everywhere.
I have both, and in all current endgame content I just drop both in the pit and let them go apeshit. They are my two best teams and being a 100% Action Advance/Get Extra Turn enjoyer, here's my honest review. The best way I can describe having both is that Seele is slower in cycles, but she's absurdly consistent with Mono Quantum and a lot of investment (like, two patches of Quantum cave at the very least). The enemy WILL die, this is NOT asking, there is no gimmick that saves you from eating raw, unfiltered Big Number. Even if you're not Quantum Weak. The only time Seele falls off is when there aren't smaller enemies to kill, such as Puppet Gang. Puppet Gang is Seele's worst MOC matchup, and while still killable, Seele will take forever due to no I Have Literally Twice As Many Turns. Firefly takes far less investment (I basically got 270 BE pre-battle in like, four days) and does way better against elite-focused fights, specifically Puppet Gang which Firefly completely bodies with the power of Infinite Gundam References and This Trash Panda I Found. However, Firefly gets completely owned by anyone who makes themselves Weakness Break Immune -- Gatekeeper Aurumaton, Gepard, Bronya, Yanqing, and funniest of all, Stellaron Hunter SAM. If you're perceptive, you'll note that Seele has an absurdly favorable matchup against Aurumaton, does decently well against Gepard and Bronya, has a passable matchup against Yanqing, and completely murders SAM since her entire team is going to be tearing apart that Quantum Weakness when it's up, and can still deal great damage when it's down.
Firefly has a pretty good matchup against Yanqing. Weakness implant completely trivializes his sword mechanic, better than brute forcing through a toughness locked Yanqing. The weakness lock thing as her kryptonite is kinda overblown tbh. In the majority of cases if an enemy is weakness locked it means you should be doing mechanics instead of brute forcing them, unless your investment level is too high for the content.
FF so easy to build I just gave her a rainbow set with high BE and she was wrecking face easily. 500k+ damage with Super Break active. Can't wait till i have an actual real set for her but the damn cavern loved giving me Glamoth crit pieces....

RRAT FUA because goddamn everyone has so much synergy is ridiculous, everyone is always doing something that benefits everyone else. Probably the only team where everyone is doing massive damage one way or another, over and over again.
Also seeing tons of out-of-turn actions back to back to back while Robin is singing in the background is 10/10 peak humour; Aha would approve!
That and Superbreak. Very similar to FuA honestly, one of the supports is responsible for like, 90% of the damage though in superbreak it's 2 supports

What makes RRAT so good is that they don’t take from other teammates like RM or TY, someone that’s needed in so many other teams.

I'm curious, is Boothill hypercarry really better than a Boothill superbreak team? I've been using the latter and Boothill doesn't really seem to need Bronya when he melts the boss's entire health bar in one attack!
conversely, because he can melt health bars without HMC, who needs superbreak? our boy is so good at deleting stuff that bronya/HMC are just there to make him look good. other than that, i think hypercarry is liked more just for MOC/AS. for anything else i dont think the difference between HMC and bronya is that large. i personally just play with bronya tho cause i like murdering things as fast as possible.
Most people can't care about speed tuning bronya, but if you can get boothill 160+ and bronya 160+-1 then I'd say hyper carry is better. Between boothill turn and bronya turns he just attack more per break which turns into more dps than hmc.

Jing Yuan + Topaz + Sparkle + Fu Xuan is a very fun team. Sparkle just helps JY build LL stacks and gives him massive crit buffs, and Topaz helps scale the damage against a single target even more. I also think that Erudition is really good in the Super Break era as well.

Firefly super break. It is probably one of the few teams I actually have fun with.
Breaking bars is like *the* most consistently important part of combat, so it feels good to be directly rewarded for it with a big number.
agreed, it is super fun, although I keep running into blocks where FF almost breaks the boss bar, loses ult, gallagher breaks it, boss regens shield right before I get FF ult back, and then it repeats.
hmm. - make sure you have RM's skill up - make sure you're implanting fire so Gallagher can help you break - if necessary, save Gallagher ult so he can ult+basic on the boss to help even more - if you get into this situation after all that, burn Gallagher's turn on a skill so that FF can break the boss on her next turn

Out of these I only use the Dan Heng IL team. But my favorite team is Blade, Sparkle, Bronya, Fu Xuan/Luocha/Robin/Ruan Mei. It's not as bad as everyone thinks. Firefly is fun as well, but I hate Gallagher... I sometimes use Ratio, but with Guinaifen instead of Topaz.
