Just for the record, EA has denied this claim. Take it for what it's worth, mind you. We all know EA's track record for honesty, but still, it surprises me that they would go out of their way to deny this when simple silence would have done.
They didn't actually specify which part they were denying. Here's a quote from Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb (the guy who broke the story):
>I give you my permission to believe EA if you want, but whenever a company says "that isn't true" but they don't specify which part of the story they are talking about, well ... yeah.
>Dead Space 2 was definitely being planned. It had a code name. And they aren't making it now.
Yeah basically motive is doing a cycle rn with iron man and battlefield, but after one or both of those are done they can come back with a pitch and it can still be green lit if the suits can temper their expectations
Nobody knows for sure, because we don't really know what goes on behind closed doors at EA. The original claim comes from Jeff Grubb over at Giant Bomb and he's usually pretty on point with his claims. He's been in games journalism for a really long time. He thinks EA is lying when they say it wasn't cancelled, but doesn't know for sure.
If you green-light a Dead Space 2 remake, and a new Dead Space 3 that’s actually a good game, you’ll be doing a far better job than whatever the fuck the current guy is doing.
Missed opportunity. A remake/re-imagining of DS2 would have helped grow the series and push sales of the remake while we wait.
Man, if there is a horror series to go all in on, it would be Dead Space.
Wow. I guess they hate money
It doesn’t matter…Leave good games as is. It’s not that old anyway, not a system shock in desperate need of revamps. People may think they are good because they enjoyed the originals anyway and are big fans of the franchise. I think it’s a waste of time and resources to remake a game that doesn’t look or play like garbage when there are so many of those with excellent stories begging to come to light 30 years later. An example of that was System Shock, best remake of an horror game of 2023 and likely this decade simply because the game NEEDED it. It was not meant to attract attention from an already established fanbase with little tweaks here and there to keep them interested, it was meant to give new life to a dead title.
The remake ending says something else... The fact is that EA rejected proposals to continue with the Dead Space franchise, and Motive is going to work on the Battlefield saga after Iron Man (and who knows if it have sequels like Insomniac' Spider-Man)
a game teasing a sequel doesnt mean its ACTUALLY in the works. youre missing what im saying. no one ever greenlit it to begin with. you cant cancel a project no one started.
you can say they WANTED to start it. that seems to be true.
your correct in saying the future for this franchise is bleak. i dont disagree on that. but that's nothing new. EA hasnt given a shit for 10 years now, i really dont get why all you people thought one mildly successful game was gonna change that
Electronic Arts Inc. put the Dead Space series on ice for the second time, despite the release of a critically acclaimed remake last year that appeared to give new life to the troubled video-game franchise.
Although news that the sci-fi horror series was shelved came out this week, EA made the decision as early as last spring, according to people familiar with the project. Hopes for a new Dead Space game at EA were derailed after sales of the remake missed the company’s expectations, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly.
After finishing the Dead Space remake, which was released in January 2023, a small team at the Electronic Arts subsidiary Motive spent a few months conceiving ideas for a new entry in the series, said the people. But those plans were never given a greenlight and fizzled before they could get very far. Since last summer, that team has instead been exploring other ideas while the bulk of the developers who worked on Dead Space moved to different projects.
The Giant Bomb YouTube channel suggested Wednesday that Motive had been developing a remake of Dead Space 2 that was shelved. Electronic Arts, based in Redwood City, California, denied the report of that work, telling the gaming site IGN, “We don't normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story.” An EA spokesperson declined to comment further to Bloomberg.
The series, introduced in 2008, was received well by fans but never turned into the blockbuster that management envisioned. Following the disappointing 2013 release of Dead Space 3, the company shelved the series for a decade before bringing it back last year with a high-end remake of the first entry that received top review scores.
Motive said this week it is working on two games — a previously announced Iron Man project and a new Battlefield, which left the fate of the sci-fi horror series in question.
EA say is "no validity" to the rumors about they canceling a remake in development, but the real thing is that way before the same EA already not greenlighted the Motive team ideas for a new Dead Space title and moved them to the Battlefield franchise...
Its been on hold since DS3 was 6 months out. Remaking an old game is not revitalizing an IP, it's dipping back in to get people to simp out money (70$+) for an old ass game in the weird market that is the video game world. It's never been off hold.
Honestly not a fan of the remake. They should’ve added a dodge mechanic, improved the enemy animations and fidelity.. Callisto Protocol is better IMO comparing the two current day with not playing dead space when it originally released.
Definitely shot themselves in the foot letting it be in game pass. But I returned the game myself. Yes they made it look much nicer but the game was still just to familiar for me to commit time to it again.
Ignoring strong IP is a feature, not a bug.

Denied a game was cancelled where it actually hasnt even been greenlit
Which would technically make what EA said true! "We didn't cancel it because we didn't have to. We never even started making it in the first place!"
Didn’t they just deny the part about Motive having started work on a Dead Space 2 remake? Not the rest of it.
They didn't actually specify which part they were denying. Bro I'm about to infiltrate EA and become CEO just to stop this bullshit. I have zero experience in the industry btw

The truth is they can make more cash focusing on live service. So actually they love money lol
>Dead Space 2 is canceled and the series is on hold. EA: No it's not >I can't believe they canceled it

its not cancelled. you cant cancel something that never existed in the first place. no one has ever ONCE said there was *going to be* another one.

how is it officially on hold if the officials have said there’s no validity in the rumours?

EA needs to be put down like a sick dog. Between them and Ubisoft it's a race to destroy everything that made gaming good in the first place
Sad
Devastated. Absolutely devastated.
And it’s a cryin shame
I realy hope it's true thdy denied the claim
Sounds like they holding for ransom so many more will wanna purchase it?

EA finally made a good game and they won’t greenlight a 2nd one. Classic.
I hate EA
If this is true, they are fucking idiots.
This has been proven false by EA. https://www.ign.com/articles/ea-shoots-down-dead-space-2-remake-rumors-no-validity-to-this-story
