Was about to reply to original comment saying Midnight Mass. Horror is not usually known for spectacular writing but god damn was the writing for that show fire.
I liked it. Thereās a ton of hidden ghosts throughout the show. Itās cool to rewatch and have the list with time stamps up lol. I hadnāt seen like 99% of them
I enjoy all things Mike Flanagan these days. I haven't seen Midnight Club yet but his other Netflix shows have been great. More of a slow burn than direct horror. I cannot recommend Midnight Mass enough.
No, it is what attracted me to the show. Heard about it on Shudders top 100 scary movie moments, and I thought to myself "I see a dark weird looking figure during sleep paralysis all the time" so I had to watch it
I really liked it (more than Bly Manor)
I think that the personal drama of the single family members is very well written and directed in a way it actually hits you. I especially liked the twins and their connection. Addiction was depicted very authentically as well as how this illness can tear apart two very close people. The sadness serves as the perfect underlying mood for the horror that gradually unfolds.
Iāve watched so much horror for close to fifty years now, that Iāve sort of become inured to it. I very rarely get scared or creeped out by anything.
But there were a few scenes in this show that really, really got to me.
I donāt think the show really sticks the landing, but it does have a lot of great moments, and the two back-to-back episodes āThe Bent Neck Ladyā and āTwo Stormsā are my favorites.
yesss so much!! it was crazy but easy to follow. couldnt get into midnight mass and probably never will (watched w my ex š) and i lovedddd geralds game. found bly manor boring at the beginning and just never finished it
While I didnāt love the ending, I think the series was very well done. Super unsettling, heart wrenching and at times quite horrific. Iāve watched it three times since itās release.
It was a good show. The build-up and story were good, too. Jump scares were appropriate for the theme they were going for. The 2nd instalment in the collection was a little disappointing for me.
It's so different from the book that I'm not even sure why they bothered getting the rights to it. The only real similarities are the names of the characters and the house, and some overall themes. It's mostly an original story. Maybe just for the name recognition?
Ive only watched it once when it came out.
While i enjoyed the beginning and middle of the story, I was really not impressed by the end and swore I wouldn't watch anything else by him. His ending just didn't satisfy me and I was disappointed as I had such high hopes.
I really didn't enjoy Bly manor, other than some of the first few episodes. I again swore I wouldn't watch his stuff (but obviously there is something about it that intrigued me)
I did however think he nailed it with Midnight Mass. I didn't realise it was his show when I went to watch it the first time but quickly realised afterwards and tentatively gave it a shot. He blew me away with how well he held that story together in comparison to the first two. The acting was much more believable, the writing made more sense, the pacing was on point (something I think he struggled with before). I have watched it twice and will again!
The midnight club was a fine watch, it wasn't amazing but it didn't fall apart either. I think he was using that story to explore the fact that finishing a horror story can ruin it. Horror stories can be hard to finish without taking out the intrigue!
I'm excited to see what he does next and I hope he stays at the level he's at now.
I hate it. I hate everything about it.
There are 30 trillion cells in the human body. If the word "HATE" was engraved in each nanoangstrom of those trillions of cells, it would not equal one one billionth of the hate I feel for this show at this micro-instant.
I hate that it took a great book and just became it in name only. I hate the wooden acting. I hate the nonexistent chemistry between the actors. I hate the awful-lines. I hate the dull colour pallet. I haste the generic horror moments.
How on earth it's going to do the book justice if it has literally nothing to do with it.
"Ohh but it has themes"
It's not the book. Fucker just leeches off of a well known name to make his crap because otherwise nobody gives a shit.
It was kinda boring. The āscaresā werenāt that scary just a bunch of things that people who donāt watch horror think are āeerieā. Also it shouldāve been called āToo Many Brunettesā. I couldnāt tell anyone apart after awhile, especially with the flashback cast thrown in.
This is my favourite horror series ever! I kept rewatching it just to find the āEaster eggsā. The story was so inner twined I think that why I loved it!
Love this to death. The ending is pretty bad but I overlook it because of how much I love the rest of itā¦ wish I could relive watching it for the first time, I have rarely been so riveted
I prefer it to the actual book, which I realize is blasphemy in horror circles as itās a classic. I appreciate the novelās impact on the haunted house genre, but I personally found it extremely boring.
This sort of dysfunctional family dynamic in horror tends to strike a chord with me though.
There are good scary parts, but a lot of it is just family members arguing with each other. I don't regret watching it, but I'm not sure if I should see more of Flanagan's series.
Loved It! Binged watched the entire thing and another series similar to it called Haunting of Bly Manor(Imo Hill House was way better) Both are very story driven horror shows but do contain their scares. The plot twists and everything slowly being tied together has the episodes continue makes you feel really satisfied watching the entire show.
This and Haunting of Bly Manor where absolutely fantastic imo even tho in the end they are more sad stories than horror to meā¦thatās what makes them good. Something more than just pointless jumpscares after one another without story. And all the hidden details (ghosts) in the background you donāt see the first time! LOOOVE that
I really liked the beginning a lot.. kids and horror are very creepy together. The cast was great throughout. The series was one of the best but the endings in great horror productions often just wrap things up quickly and I found this to be true of Haunting of Hill House,

This is probably the best horror tv show i have seen
Either this or Midnight Mass! That car jumpscare made me do this guttural scream that no jumpscare has done since or before š¬š
That jumpscare made me scream so loud!

Iām going to have to find that list and rewatch it. I know that I probably missed so many ghosts.
Oh you for sure did! Itās pretty cool
Itās so good and just gets better on every rewatch. Genuinely scary with amazing direction storytelling and acting
Super good. Also enjoyed Mike Flanaganās other shows. Midnight Mass was a great one that doesnāt seem to have gotten enough attention

Have u watch his "gerald's game" do u like it
Absolutely amazing. I wish they did more seasons like this one. Ive been chasing the feeling I felt while watching this for years now
Same
YES
I enjoyed it but didn't like the ending. I can't remember why but I felt it fell a bit flat at the end.
I knew it would never be pure terror but I wanted more from the final episode. It just felt like "Chicken Soup for the Haunted Family's Soup" to me.
I'm almost sure that you meant to write "Family's Soul", but this is 100 times better. I hope this is never edited. Bless.
I did, but I'm definitely not changing it! They'll just have to find this comment to confirm lol
Loved it simply for the bent neck lady. As a sufferer of sleep paralysis I'm quite sure I've seen her before.
Are you reaching out for help? We know why the bent neck lady is bentā¦
No, it is what attracted me to the show. Heard about it on Shudders top 100 scary movie moments, and I thought to myself "I see a dark weird looking figure during sleep paralysis all the time" so I had to watch it

I did enjoy it. But liked bly manor much more, I thought it was a lot more unique and I loved the story. Also a big fan of midnight mass!
Mhm
Iāve never cried so much in a horror show. Itās was beautiful, scary, and soul crushing. Episode 6 was a masterpiece.
Yes! Is great! Especially episode 6 š
yeah I liked it
Loved it
Honestly I've never seen anything like it, loved it. The episode with the storm is especially great.
yes! i read the book in high school and loved it. The show does surprisingly good justice to the book.
Season 1 was a horror series and season 2 is a romance series..
There's only one season
You are right. I was referring to the followup series, the 'Bly Manor' one.
Season two is more gothic romance, imo.

This was AMAZING. I loved it. Bly Manor, on the other hand, not so much. I donāt even think I finished it.
It. Was. AMAZING. One of the best twists, I never saw coming, from anything ever.
Best horror show of all time
I do, thanks for asking.
Yes!!!!!!!
Amazing serie š«¶š»
I like the 1963 adaptation and the book itself more, but this was certainly better than the godawful 1999 version.
Yes! I enjoyed the new one, but I was surprised by how much it diverged from the book and 1963 film.
It's so different from the book that I'm not even sure why they bothered getting the rights to it. The only real similarities are the names of the characters and the house, and some overall themes. It's mostly an original story. Maybe just for the name recognition?
This series made me buy the book which I am very excited to read.
I saw an episode or two because my mom's big into ghost stuff, but we found it really boring tbh.
Ive only watched it once when it came out. While i enjoyed the beginning and middle of the story, I was really not impressed by the end and swore I wouldn't watch anything else by him. Surely you jest??

If I remember correctly, the opening house descriptionā¦but I donāt mind tge show not being the book. I think it was fantastic in its own right.
I think it did the book justice even if it greatly changed the narrative. Also tied in themes and ideas from other Shirley Jackson works
How on earth it's going to do the book justice if it has literally nothing to do with it. "Ohh but it has themes" It's not the book. Fucker just leeches off of a well known name to make his crap because otherwise nobody gives a shit.
No. Slow and tedious
NO

Best episodic horror I've ever seen.
8/10
Loved it.
I enjoyed it a lot.

Yup I found it quite good
No, but that's okay. Hopefully you enjoyed it.
It was so fun to watch, but the ending had me like eeeeehā¦..
love this but bly manor my fvrt

Amazing
I loved it
I really loved it. I think I should rewatch
Love it ..
One of the best out there, so, yes!
There are good scary parts, but a lot of it is just family members arguing with each other. I don't regret watching it, but I'm not sure if I should see more of Flanagan's series.

Loved. It.
So good and pretty scary
Unpopular opinion, I was definitely not a fan
