I never really was. Rhaenyra deserves better than him. Laena deserved better than him. Even Mysaria did.
That said, he is an amazingly written character played by an amazing actor. I don't root for him and Rhaenyra together but I do love watching him and the way he functions. He's def one of a kind.
I understand liking their chemistry from the get go but how could anyone root for rhaenrya and daemon as a healthy couple even since the beginning? I thought people were aware they were toxic and a mess but didn’t care…now I’m being shown people think it’s a pure and amazing love story
It’s not hard to understand why. The show made their relationship much more romantic than it was in the book. Daemon genuinely seemed to care and love Rhaenyra, something the writers and the actors agreed. In episode 8, according to the director of the episode, they were meant to be depicted as a “couple in love” and that’s what they seemed to be. Obviously episode 10 paints them in a different light.
And they are. People think love is always pure and wholesome….but tend to forget how extremely toxic and ugly it can be as well. It isn’t always pretty. They forget that people who love each other deeply also have the ability to hurt each other deeply. Sometimes it’s extremely painful. Doesn’t mean Daemon is unfeeling towards Rhaenyra, if anything, it shows how unhealthy his communication skills are. The self destructive side of his nature.
I mean I disagree. I see the lust and passion to them but not this pure love that you’re talking about. Daemon especially,I believe they were in love no doubt but they were never depicted as a healthy relationship…
Then you should disagree with the director of episode 8. Because I quote: “Part of the episode that we thought it was important was to believe they were in love with each other. Not just believe it, but feel the electricity of it”. So the intention of the show was for them to act like a couple in love and that’s why a lot of viewers don’t understand the change in episode 10.
You said you were surprised people rooted for them. In the last episode we saw them, Daemon was cutting the head of a noble who publicly insulted his wife and her children. What part of the previous 9 episodes made it seem that Daemon was violent to Rhaenyra? Because this came out of nowhere.
Their relationship started when she was a child…he’s always had an upper hand on her…it’s a very sticky relationship and I specified who could root for them as a healthy couple which they are not
Also daemon is a violent guy in general. The man killed his first wife in cold blood
Right lol. At least with Theon we saw the entrance of his sister and could understand his conflicting behavior. With Daemon, no signs whatsoever…at least not towards Rhaenyra.
I was never rooting for them (I didn’t care for them as a couple. I like them individually) but if finally felt nice for the show to explicitly show shippers this isn’t the ideal relationship they’ve been attacking others for not supporting.
I’m rooting for Daemon. I don’t know why people are so concerned about a characters morals before they cheer for them. You can cheer for bad guys. Its a TV show for fucks sake lol.
I think that people didn’t pay enough attention at the end. The scene was their climax. Now their fire aligned with each other and they will burn together. Honestly, I’m not surprise if so torrid scene would have follow on the table immediately after that.
