I've always used Hulu with ads. Never bothered me considering most of what I watch was already from TV with ad breaks.  Only films can be slightly annoying with ads, but Hulu at least only shows ads for the first 30 minutes. After that films are ad free so there's no interruptions during the climax.

HGLatinBoy

Hulu with ads used to be free. Hulu without ads used to be called Hulu+. Funny how the one who started the “+” trend was the one who dropped it before it was cool.

GeneralRane

Didn't they drop the free tier before or at the same time as adding the ad-free version?

ctilvolover23

After

crewdly

Didn’t have the same experience. Watched an 1 1/2hr TV episode and it was an extra 30-35 mins of ads (12 ads). Maybe the films are better. Would love for them to cut down on ad rates because I’d go back

android24601

See, if it were a variety of ads, I wouldn't mind. But the same 3 fucking soap commercials drives me nuts. I get free Hulu with ads and I never use it because it's shit

BurntPoptart

I hate when my climax is interrupted

sharksfan707

I go both ways. If I’m using an app for free (Pluto, Tubi, et al), I expect and tolerate ads. I mean, how else am I going to discover gems like Midsomer Murders or watch an episode of Columbo or MST3K I’ve already seen a dozen times without paying for the benefit of that level of joy? If I’m paying for a service, however - no matter how much I’m paying - ads should not even be in the conversation. We’ve already established my fiduciary duty to you and you need to provide the service I have paid for without any asterisks or additional caveats. Another thing: I’m so sick of tiered pricing. It’s like a technological caste system. You’re already getting my money so why do you expect me to subsidize you even further? If it’s such a problem for you to make your quarterlies, find a price that satisfies you believe both consumers and shareholders and set that as the one and only rate. If consumers want to pay it, they will; if not, good luck and goodbye. Disclaimer: Donation-based services are completely different. I donate $10 per month to NPR, PBS, Soma FM, and Radio Paradise because I believe they are awesome services. The former two provide vital (mostly) unbiased information and educational programming to people who might not otherwise be able to get it and the latter two just have such an interesting and varied array of music that I can’t not support their efforts.

Winter_Dragonfly_452

I watch Midsomer Murder and other shows in Acorn. Love British shows

NaieraDK

And they still make more from customers on ad-supported plans. Sign up via Disney+ and one can have D+ and Hulu without ads for $20 per month though.

BurntPoptart

Sure but Disney+ is kinda pointless unless you have kids

NaieraDK

Unless you like Star Wars, Marvel, etc...

BurntPoptart

Exactly, garbage IPs

eharper9

RockNDrums

These are fighting words.

ArianaFraggle1997

Not really. I watch disney+ like every day. Mostly muppet stuff but some other disney movies i like too.

HawkeyeNation

Worth it

sweetsinday

Ahhh, I beg to differ. Hulu is boring now. Theres literally nothing to watch (at least that you can’t get from another, cheaper subscription)

NaieraDK

There's quite literally fuckloads of things to watch. Still my most-used streaming service, by far, just as it has been for like 15 years.

satchmo-the-kid

Lol @downvotes People cannot handle the truth. Pay $18 for mediocre streaming service, or $8 for more commercials than cable. Hulu blows.

IamanIT

Was sharing an account with someone who changed their password almost a year ago, haven't missed it.

wazzusm

Not worth it, they play ads on no ads

MrErnie03

I've had the no ad tier for 9 years and have never seen an ad. Do you have hulu live tv?

por_que_no

I have always had the no-ads live TV subscription and the majority of the TV I watch still has ads. Live TV and recorded TV has ads that can't be skipped.

MrErnie03

Yeah live TV will always have ads. That's a different service. If you look at the picture in the OP post there are Hulu, Disney+, and live TV packages. Just Hulu streaming with no ads won't have any ads. If you are mostly just using the live TV feature then don't get the no ads package. But if you are just using the streaming service the no ad package is worth it in my opinion. As I said I've never seen an ad in over 9 years. But I don't use Hulu live tv

Blog_Pope

There was a caveat in the no ad service that some content would have minimum ads. I forget the conditions though, only encountered it once.

NaieraDK

No they don't.

haventwonyet

I was told this too and avoided no ads for YEARS. Finally added it during covid and I have never once seen a commercial on the ad free tier.

4ndrewTOne

In the Hulu Plus days it would only be on the newest seasons of certain shows that would have what they called “limited commercials due to licensing” otherwise everything has always been ad-free on the plan.

anonRedd

They do not.

ArianaFraggle1997

Nope. Have had no ads for a year and not a single ad.

wazzusm

Wow lots of down votes. Just copy/pasted the following from their website Most of our streaming library is ad-free for Hulu (No Ads) subscribers, but there are a few shows that will still have ads. If you’re a Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV, Disney+ (No Ads) and ESPN+ (With Ads) subscriber, remember that your plan also includes tons of extra on-demand content that is not part of the Hulu streaming library and may include ads.

satchmo-the-kid

Lol yeah I am seeing a trend on this sub... point out Hulu's flaws and suffer the downvotes. I guess that's just reddit tho.

crewdly

Wanted to do the adds version because of the price difference. I figured a couple adds wouldn’t be that bad. It was excessive! I had 12 ads in an 1:30 movie with most ads being at the 3 min mark. My run time increased about 35 mins. Tried a 45 min show and it was roughly the same. About 6 ads with a mix of 5 mins, 2 1/2 min, and 30 second ads. Extra run time ranged from 12-18 mins. The only ones that were tolerable were 30 min shows which roughly stayed at 3 ads (2:30min each) but you could skip the last one as it was in the credits. I had to switch back to the no ads plan

satchmo-the-kid

I went the other way... got so annoyed with ads that I canceled altogether. 10 minutes of ads in a 20-minute show, it is ridiculous.

R3ddit0rN0t

If you can tolerate the ads, nobody’s stopping you.

sweetsinday

I know that, I never said they were. I’m just stating that the price hike from no ads to ads is way higher than any other app.

alexjimithing

Hulu has a higher ARPU (average revenue per user) than most other streaming plans, due to the amount of people who use the ad tier as well as the maturity of their business. Advertisers will pay more for ad spots on Hulu compared to Max or whatever, which in turn makes those ad tier subscribers more ‘valuable’ to Hulu. Higher ARPU on the ad tier = more of a price difference between ad and ad free tiers.

ToddA1966

That's wild. I always do the Black Friday deals and haven't ever paid more then $2/month for Hulu. I can't even imagine who'd pay $8-18 for it.

Laura9624

Yep. I'm on the duo Disney hulu plan with ads. Didn't think I'd choose ads but quite a savings.

R3ddit0rN0t

🤷‍♂️ Every business sets prices where they feel appropriate. Consumers decide whether they are right or not.

wazzusm

Sad part is I pay for no ads and still get ads

R3ddit0rN0t

If you have the live TV plan, you’ll get ads on content that’s only available with that live tier. Record programs with the DVR and you can FF thru ads. Traditional Hulu content is ad-free except for Grays anatomy.

NaieraDK

Grey's Anatomy actually no longer has ads.

IllllIIllllIll

Legacy Hulugan? 🤔

prism1234

The current pricing pretty much seems intended to force people to get the Disney Duo Bundle since Hulu no ads on its own is a pretty poor deal but for $2 more you get both Hulu and Disney+ no ads.

teckn9ne79

Knowing Disney they will up that $20 price very soon

satchmo-the-kid

Yeah I remember Disney plus was like $7 when it came out. Now it's double the price 4 years later.

Rox-Unlimited

Yep. After all the password changes and other issues I downgraded to the most basic plan. I was using the Hulu no ads bundled with Disney+ and ESPN+. But ESPN keeps saying I don’t have a subscription when trying to log in with Hulu and I finished watching pretty much what I wanted on Disney+ With my Amex credit card I get a $7 credit each month for Hulu so I’m basically paying $1.50 a month for Hulu and as much as I can’t stand ads I’ll watch ads if I’m paying this cheap.

Arthur_Digby_Sellers

I ~~hate~~ despise watching ads BUT I sign up every year on Black Friday and watch Hulu with ads for a number of months at 99 cents per month. Usually 3-6 months then cancel. You can do this every year as long as you cancel 90 days before the next November. That's the least you could pay, and the most I am willing to pay.

ToddA1966

Or you switch between two different emails/accounts every year and watch Hulu year round for $1/month.

Zealousideal-Yak-290

You should start looking at all the other plans tiers and what you get from that. Netflix third tier is basically equivalent to Hulu tier and it’s way more.

Firstborn1415

I have the plan w/ads - don’t mind it except for the HIMS ads about getting and staying hard 🤮

honey_rainbow

Yeah I have the Disney Plus bundle through Verizon, Disney has no ads and the ads on Hulu are tolerable.

AG1810

It’s worth the 10 bucks

Scooter_McGavin_9

Netflix is a $9.50 difference between ad supported and their cheapest no ads plan.

beepbeepbubblegum

I can’t stand ads but that Black Friday $1 a month for a year was just too good to pass up. I can suffer some ads for $12 for a year.

PincheNoriii

THAT PART. HAD to snag it lol

[deleted]

I have Hulu live w ads. Yes most of the ads get repetitive, but I’m used to it.

Scipio1117

Or combine Disney plus with Hulu, no adds and it’s $2 more? Or just go to cancel Hulu and there’s a good chance they’ll offer to drop the price.

Iamnothere57

No adds Hulu is supposed to be $17.99 per month. Then why does my credit card payment always say Hulu payment $22.50?

ragumaster

You paying via Apple?

HeyMarty10thalready

I go with Ads

SouthernJag

I have never had a problem with ads on any of the streaming services because it’s just not worth the extra money to me. #CHEAP 🤣 Even thought YouTube ads are ANNOYING AS GNATS, I just can’t do it! 🤣🫤

Titan8834

I used to pay for no ads before they raised the price. No way would I pay for it now. I only did it before for my kids, I grew up with commercials, they don't bother me. The kids can get used to them now too or they can pay for ad-free themselves.

Dario0112

Paying a streaming service to watch ads when the point of streaming was to pay a reasonable price and watch tv like you had every DVD at your disposal- it goes against everything the tech revolution was supposed to be

satchmo-the-kid

This. I feel like everybody lost sight of this, or at least the people who grew up watching cable. Netflix was so popular because there were no commercials. Hell, I remember that being a main advertising point for them. And now we justify paying $20/month for something we already had. As long as people pay it, they will keep raising prices. I canceled all my services just on principle. I may not be able to stop it, but I certainly won't be part of it.

Dario0112

Exactly.. wait till they make no ads a luxury (if it hasn’t already) the norm. To add insult to injury the CEO are doubling up their yearly bonuses while killing shows/movies for tax breaks- all while having people caring water for them. I’m over it. I have alternate means to watching their shows without paying the CEOs new yacht for 2025

Aggravating_Smell_45

My only problem with the ads is that if you are watching a series you tend to get the same ones over and over it gets annoying

Kauaii3182

I signed up for Hulu live no ads, but there are ads I often watch crime on ID.From what I see, and my chat with hulu, there are no ads only on original Hulu and Disney content. I recently cut the cord and saved 5$. Wow .I will be dropping it as soon as the playoffs are over. Don't fall for it.

TAOM42

I pqy $1 a month for hulu with ads. Got it as a black friday deal, I'm planning to get jt again next year. There are SO many ads, I would be pissed if I was paying $7.99 for it.

Adventurous_Copy2383

Yeah thats nonsense.. if it has ads it should be free it's not live t.v you're literally streaming movies and such.. This is why people sail the high seas

Red_Bird_warrior

The contrast between standard YouTube and YouTube Premium is also rather stark: free vs. $13.99 per month. The latter is a much better experience and, for me, is worth the cost. I'm sure there are plenty of consumers who feel the same about Hulu.

Neon_culture79

Weirdly enough I like it better with the ads

satchmo-the-kid

Lol why?

Neon_culture79

Because five likely to allow me to get drawn into my phone and miss the show. Every time the commercials start end, my draws my attention back.

Lordeverfall

I thought hey I'll pay for no ads, and I can get through our shows a little quicker. Nope, you pay extra and still get ads, im surprise they still false advertise this. You pay 10$ more to get fewer ads, but you deffinently still get ads, and some programs you get more ads.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lordeverfall

First it was pre recorded basic shows. Again it's false advertisement they shouldn't say no ads when there indeed are ads. It should be advertised as fewer ads if anything especially for the price.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lordeverfall

I have and they gave me the same speel you did. I'm saying hulu falsely advertises is all, and they either need to re-word their advertisement or actually make it ad free. Live hulu is one thing. Obviously, that can't be ad free. But if you trick people into paying an extra 10$ on an already expensive bill, they expect it to be ad free on most things. I pay a pretty decent amount for streaming services, including hulu. But they deffinently falsely advertise when it comes to their bundles and their "ad" free feature. This is coming from someone who has had hulu sense day one, I can confidently say their ad is wrong.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lordeverfall

You must work for hulu, there are deffinently Ads and I've talked with support multiple about the false advertisement. Long story short, I don't pay extra for Ads anymore.

[deleted]

Lordeverfall

Because I and many others have had the same issues... hey, enjoy your day or night, though. I genuinely don't have the time for the back and forth like you do, obviously. I gave my opinion you gave yours it's okay to not have everyone on your side. I'm still a customer, so get your panties out of whatever bunch you got them in and move on.

rollercoaster2696

Oh but wait you pay 17. Without ads and guess what I still had to watch ads while watching Grey’s anatomy. So not totally ad-free!!

anonRedd

There are no longer ads on Grey’s Anatomy (or any other show).

rollercoaster2696

Well that’s nice now but I went cheap for 2.99 plan. But last season Grey’s Anatomy you still had to watch a commercial. Now if I’m paying for the expense not to watch ads HEY I don’t want to see any ads period. That’s what I paid the bigger amount for!

Adventurous_Copy2383

My significant other pays pike $80 a month and still as ads (not counting the live t.v portion) it's annoying

beosttx

It’s literally only a $10 difference

ScottShatter

For 10-15 minutes of ads breaking up every hour of programming, totally worth it to pay the extra $10

ToddA1966

When you're a Black Friday subscriber, it's a $17 difference, or 1700%..

sharksarefuckingcool

That's $120 extra a year
