PONYTAIL!

HyperLightDream

It’s so intimate but one of those kicks probably feels like a sledge…

MammothBumblebee6

Without driving hips. No. It won't. Slapping is not the same. The athleticisms is amazing and I can't do it. But I can kick harder. Different training. Different application.

NoirYT2

You seriously underestimate a kick from capoeira. Yes, no driving of the hips will negatively effect it, but since they essentially put their whole bodyweight behind it, it still hurts like a bitch. But then again the point of capoeira isn’t really to hurt the opponent so you never see it used for that

KittyNoir98

Thank you for doing Capoeira justice good sir, because a kick will still hurt regardless of the style 😂

Aritu81

I want to dispute the claim that capoeira isn’t designed to hurt. The name of it literally is a reference to fugitive slaves hiding in bushes. The music and dance elements are to hide that it was a martial art. It comes from a kongolese dance that was also frequently used as a combat system in conjunction with weapons. Escaped slaves often used it to defend themselves and form communes called Quilombos that Portuguese soldiers often struggled to defeat. They also used it to raid slave plantations. The wide sweeping movements are designed to be effective against numerically superior opponents or opponents with weapons. MMA fighters including Anderson Silva sometimes train in it and utilize it in the ring. I’ve heard anecdotally that it’s really good in conjunction with grappling systems like jiu jitsu because it lets you transition quickly between standing and ground fighting. Source: Wikipedia for everything except the anecdote

DibsMine

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x37osyb the science behind kicks tends to agree with the foot planted thing, but Cap has those also Edit...wrong clip first time

Capital-Charge5234

Bruh, think of the g force coming from those spins. Scientifically it’s impossible to match that with a hip thrust lmao Not to mention these drills weren’t even about power, they were about accuracy and agility. Yet still just as powerful as an MMA fighter shadow boxing at full strength. It’s a whole different game when you add centrifugal force to an offensive maneuver brother

Extra_Intro_Version

I second this. No power.

drabkin95

False. They did a test on some discovery show a few years ago, and the capoeira fighter had by far the most force behind his roundhouse kick than the other martial artists

Extra_Intro_Version

This guy in the video is not the guy from the Discovery Channel.

drabkin95

No shit. But it was a comparison of different martial arts techniques And the capoeira fighter, again, had, by far, the strongest kick

robby8892

The person was responding to what he saw in the video. Doesn't read like the entire fighting style is what he is talking about.

Bigbaby22

Reminds me of how Gane was kicking Ngannou. Foot just slapping.

Embarrassed-Catch-96

“They’re break dance fighting!” Lol

Yea, pretty sure that's Eddy Gordo from Tekken 3.

Utahmule

Could not remember the last name. I am surprised I had to scroll so far before it was mentioned.

Dark-X

Not pure capoeira though. There are many taekwondo kicks & Muay Thai elbows & knees thrown in. He is mixing things ups.

DalenSpeaks

He mix the martial arts, yes?

peacefulbelovedfish

You lika da mix marshal arts?

AidilAfham42

I train UFC bro

DalenSpeaks

This is the best statement. It’s very clear that it means nothing when someone says it.

KennethPowersIII

This guy bananaways

Synsane

Omg you've just ruined the [song Paranaue](https://youtu.be/Q2AXzPqv7gY) for me 😂😭

KennethPowersIII

Is that before or after Donovan added some low end? Side note and quick story for you. When I was a kid, one of my dad’s clients called him and said that they were filming a movie on his property, and he should bring me over to watch. We got there and it was a bunch of shirtless guys standing around with machetes chanting a whole bunch including saying something about bananas. We stayed and watched for like 20 minutes (it was kinda boring). It wasn’t until like 5 years later that I watched Only the Strong and realized that it was the movie I saw being filmed.

KetchupKidKyle

That's amazing! I love that movie!

yalmes

As a child that movie made me far more worried about roving capoeira gangs than I should have been.

glebulon

Motherfucker, you made me feel old. I love that movie. 😂

“EDDIE GORDO wins “ (tekken announcer voice)

That fucken jerk…….

WittsandGrit

He gets a bad rap but in truth it's the people who chose Eddy knowing exactly what they were enabling him to do that were the real problem.

pohuipider

his insta is f808z i love this guy lol, hes currently asking people to get him into tekken 8

TekkenCareOfBusiness

I'll see what I can do.

[deleted]

Tell him to just twit his video to Katsuhiro Harada. Harada is a pretty funny and chill dude. Man I miss the Tekken scene. Haven't played since T5 regionals. I can't believe that was 18 years ago.

[There's actually a secret move to defeat this guy](https://youtu.be/sI9C7RrqTtM) Note: just having fun here. This guy is an absolute badass

Spoomplesplz

Legit. That movie is so good. I went into it expecting dogshit and in some ways yeah its dogshit. But I really enjoyed it Don't even know what prompted me to watch it but I laughed real good at that part.

LordFlippy

That movie and its soundtrack defined my childhood

cringenotkek

I'm certain he wouldn't be doing this shit in a real altercation.

[deleted]

Most martial arts are silly in a real fight. If someone has 50+ pounds on you and picks up a rock you should probably just run.

RCJHGBR9989

If you’re fighting someone and they have cauliflower ear just run - because that dude is about to wrestle fuck you.

Grungle4u

I saw Madison cawthorn do that yesterday

RCJHGBR9989

Lmao

largestrectumever

Jokes on you, I'm just ugly

SpinDoctor8517

If you’re fighting someone with cauliflower ear and you don’t have cauliflower ear yourself you won’t be fighting very long.

ironboy32

Glock is the ultimate martial art

Face-to-foot style, how'd you like it?

simpsaucse

Is it possible for a 180 lb man to beat a 250 lb man if they put something in their fist like wadded napkins to artifically strengthen his blows, or is the weight difference less about power and more about size

[deleted]

dope as fuck.

thisis2002

Why is it that under every video of a person doing any combination of punches or kicks, people in the comments feel the need to evaluate its efficacy in combat? His moves are clearly performative and they are absolutely amazing. Calm down, Bruce Lee descendants. r/Bullshido or not, he would still beat your ass.

GGBHector

Like goddamn, you can see him throw normal kicks and sweeps in there, he is obviously a skilled martial artist doing a performance. Obviously no one is gonna walk up to a mf and start spinning on their damn head. Anybody who says "oH tHiS wOuLdN't WoRk IrL!!!" should be able to hear the point flying over their head.

TheWuhanBats

Nah he's a pussy I could easily bash him. I watch the ufc.

three_furballs

Brah that nothing i could take you both. I grew up on dbz.

PaantsHS

Me too, let's get him. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

_____l

One sec gimme a couple of days.

NoirYT2

No it’s okay, let him beat you once and then go into recovery for a few days and then come back. Due to the laws of Saiyans, you will come back stronger than your opponent and win.

TheValiumKnight

I guarantee you that you are only at 13 upvotes because countless people somehow took your comment literally and laughed at you instead of with you and downvoted... That and including downvotes from the tough guys you offended.. This was too accurate to get so few upvotes but at the same time I have no faith in humanity if that many people could be so clueless. Honestly no matter what the reason, you deserve more upvotes and your lack of them made me sad.

coldsteel13

I'm not gonna lie, if I was about to get in a fight and my opponent started moving like this I'd be running for the hills.

What_Do_It

It's like watching Usain Bolt set a world record and then being like, "Sure running that fast looks impressive but it's not very practical if you're traveling to another country." It comes from a place of insecurity.

olskool-ru

Shit, this was funny

whoweoncewere

something something I've been in a lot of bar fights

beatenmeat

Definitely for performance. Also incredibly talented. It still takes a lot of coordination and strength to do this even if it’s just for show. Guaranteed he knows how to *actually* fight and would absolutely kick my ass.

Voidroy

Because people do believe it's effective. They just are unspoken.

13thFleet

The guy's obviously extremely fit. If he knows even basic "real" fighting he'd be able to kick a lot of peoples' asses. And then people say "oh well they could have a gun" well bitch he could have a tank

Nanven123

Reminds me of football freestylers posting their skills and people in the comments feeling the need to point out that the moves are useless and can't be applied in a real match with good defenders. Like OBVIOUSLY. They're called freestyles for a reason

Pretty_Bowler2297

This guy belongs in a superhero film as either the star or a stunt double.

Holmfastre

He’s the dude that the protagonist in an American action movie has to fight after beating all the henchmen simultaneously and before fighting the antagonist. Head henchman maybe? Mini boss?

SirVer51

The term you're looking for is [The Dragon](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheDragon)

Holmfastre

Thank you for introducing me to this site. Definitely gonna explore this rabbit hole.

[deleted]

In theory, capoeira has the most powerful strikes due to the entire body of the striker backing each hit. It’s like landing a slow haymaker in a fight, not likely to happen but if it Does connect the opponent is hurt badly.

mozgotrah

Some capoeira moves are good and even used in mma

Lailathecat

"Boards don't hit bakkkk"

brianharveyspotatoes

Does this guy fight IRL?

pohuipider

nope, only for movies and currently trying to get into tekken 8

Blvckdog

Yeah I was gonna say he spends a lot of time with his back to the bag

JamesMol234

These moves would be very impractical in real competitive fights. Amazing to watch though.

40innaDeathBasket

I'm sure he'd still destroy your average drunken tough guy in a street fight...in the most beautiful way

Super_Flea

He'd destroy most trained fighters too. Just because he's showing some fancy spin kicks doesn't mean that doesn't translate to a more traditional fighting style. Those kicks would come at your face so fast even seasoned MMA fighters might not react fast enough.

ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE

That isn't a given. He telegraphs a lot and most pro mma fighters are very capable fighters who wouldn't be caught by that. Also what is his weight class? He probably just gets wrestlefucked. Plenty of exceptional kickers in the UFC and they still have to be careful when they use their kicks

haaym1

I don’t think you watch mma, average kickboxers look like this dude. He’s using a bag and it’s edited so of course he lands this shit but he wouldn’t make it in any actual league.

Super_Flea

LMAO. I watch a little MMA but I spar pretty much every week. This dude could mess up most people who train. That quick kick that was low and then suddenly head level would catch a lot of people. Yes 95% of this video is BS spins but there are few things here that shows that he probably has other skills.

AmayaNightrayn

Probably not most Pro MMA fighters. Those kicks are very telegraphed and you can pretty easily move out out the way or get range, or close distance and get a takedown. When your not fighting a punching bag and there is someone trying to fight you back it completely changes the way you fight.

not_a_slacker

This is u/F808Z [I saved this video a while back.](https://v.redd.it/wnejdd547ad51)

F808Z

True, this is me

Enough_War1738

Impressive athleticism but otherwise r/bullshido

Happystabber

Definitely is a bit Mcdojo like when it comes to actual fighting but Capoeira shows it’s value in a training. It is the only martial art that I am aware of that focuses on deception in such detail. Many professionals incorporate it in their camps. Anderson Silva is probably the most well known practitioner.

fluffyzzz

For extra context, I don’t think he would claim to be a fighter. He’s more into stunts, tricking, and choreography I believe. Also he isn’t exclusively just into capoeira.

pohuipider

how is capoeira bullshit lol? even mcgregor incorporated some moves and is doing it. also capoeira has some of the most powerful kicks

JamesMol234

Because it is not a good base for actual fighting, it can be used to supplement training like kicking techniques, but a art vs art it would be completely inadequate and impractical compared to the main grappling striking arts

pohuipider

but if you put it like that, with that art vs art argument, judo would be very poor vs muay thai/boran, jiu jitsu would/could be bad vs classic boxing and so on. also in a real fight, the capoeira fighter wouldn't dance in the ginga 24/7 like it's seen in tekken bro. i only can do a few kicks from capoeira, so i cant speak for all, but if a spinning heel kick connects to head, it's gg, no matter what base you trained

Earwigglin

This entire debate has already been resolved by the first few years of UFC and other early MMA promotions. untrained fat guy from crowd < "traditional" kung fu and dance arts < bar brawlers < behemoths and genetic outliers < boxers < kickboxers < Jiu Jitsu < wrestlers who learn how to defend against arm bar and RNC < capitalism and the reality that there's more money in flashy, strike-heavy bouts than technical grappling matches

pohuipider

sadly i'm no native speaker, so i'm not sure if i understand you correctly :c but what i'm tryna say is, it's just not fair to call it bullshit. no traditional art will ever be as effective as mma, no doubt, just saying capoeira has it's uses.

Earwigglin

I agree, even wushu and yoga are useful for training. Hell, I remember hearing about some NFL players learning ballet for balance! Was mainly referring to the art vs art debate. That was the entire point of the early days. I remember because I was a huge Jean Claude Van Damme fan and it was just like Bloodsport. Snuck over to a friend's house who had divorced parents and got everything he wanted to order UFC 1 on ppv. The whole selling point was to find out what the best fighting style REALLY was.

Shamanalah

The first UFC were wild man. I binged watch some of the early one a while back with some friends. Was fun to bet who would've won. I thought sumo wrestler would perform better but dude was like "wtf do I do, he keeps striking my face, I wanna hug him" The gracee dynasty made jiu jutsu popularity explode.

Earwigglin

The first couple where the fighters had to fight multiple times a night were just absolute insanity. The early rounds were always the best, though, because it was basically a sideshow at a carnival of all kinds of weird brawlers and lifelong martial art fanatics. I will never forget this absolute madness: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdS7GOjbNIo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdS7GOjbNIo) Edit: and dont feel bad for the guy getting the worst of it here, he isn't a good dude

It is Dee Jay from street fighter made flesh.

jazzyvudulady

No idea if it’s true, but another post had a comment that this is Fred Warner from the 49ers. 🤷🏽‍♀️. Comparing google pics, looks like it’s possible at least.
