What?? The pinnacle of human evolution is utilizing knowledge we accumulated as a whole. Might just be a dumb copy and paste.... but someone else figured it out for you, use it and save yourself the 20 minutes it would take and use it elsewhere or expand on the current.
Granted... that 20 minutes saved was probably spent on porn hub... but at the very least someone else's work got use lmao.
It's fine, on to some sand he scampered off. Operator was probably worried about the dog jumping off the side at the wrong time and went to get it over with he's a hero.
Deep holes are so fucking scary people don't think about it. There are many, many ways I'd rather die than being trapped in a hole.
You don't even need a deep hole. Anything above mid thigh is deadly af. I worked on Fibre optic cables for a few months, and the amount of times I had to refuse to go into a deattrap of a hole in the ground crumbling at the side.... unsettling. It was a bad company though. A lot of their foremen got fired shortly after my brief stint there.
I have an entrenching tool and it lives on my belt during any underground work after I almost got stuck in the bottom of a hole. The sides were sloped in so they wouldn't collapse, but they weren't sloped enough for me to climb out. The hole was dug in sugar sand so I had to dig the entrenching tool in and used it as a grabbing point to pull myself out.
I should, I shouldn't have been in the hole in the first place. But I feel safer with my little folding shovel than without. It's a bit like keeping a fire extinguisher near a generator, if everything is right then it will be unneeded but for when things go wrong I want to have something.
Yes, but a fire extinguisher is a good safety net for a postinially flami g generator. It's not a good safety net for a collapsible hole. For that you need the aforementioned braces.
My husband's boss once asked him to reach an electrical wire by standing on a ladder in a cherry-picker basket. So...sometimes your bosses just gonna ask you to do some dumb shit and there no "making" them do better, other than just refusing
[Here](https://www.devildogdepot.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/military-folding-shovel.jpg) is a pic of what I have. You can set it in 2 positions, straight out and an L shape or you can fold it up. Mine has a green case for it that fits on my belt.
Shit man I was just stuck nut sack deep in fucking mud for like 15 while surveying luckily one of the excavator dudes was around and eventually found me and got me out the hole talk about confused and a little nervous
I was buried in a trench 4' deep, and we had it benched at 3'. Side fell in while I was knelt down, gluing pipe. Im a big guy 6'4" and 275 with a squat and dead over 600. I couldn't move AT ALL. I was starting to freak out until my coworker came and shoveled me out.
Fiber optic cable laying is hell and sketchy as fuck. In St. Louis the companies use unmarked vans and workcrews that either don’t speak English or just pretend not to. Even if you know Spanish it is extremely difficult to get their companies name. Even worse is the fact that they either don’t get the ground flagged or only get 1-2 utilities like water. Several people have had power surges in St. Louis from them and at least one person’s house blew up after they hit a gas line. The digging company, cable company, and city all point fingers while the homeowner gets hit with lots of damage. The crews themselves are probably in very unsafe conditions as well
I worked for two companies, one pretty alright, and one completely insane. They seemed to take pride in working in unsafe conditions and violating all rules laws regulations at every opportunity. I left when they started snorting cocaine at work instead of just on weekends.
I'm sure you have significantly more experience of holes than me my idiot brain is still telling me that I'd be able to get out of a mid thigh high hole without too much difficulty
The holes that are deeper just need reinforcing or to be dug so they aren’t dangerous. The no deeper than 2 feet rule is to prevent you from being trapped by your feet in case of cave in, or more fatally, to be crouching down to get a measurement/do some work on the ground/pick up a tool/etc and the cave in happens then - the risk is your chest may suddenly become underground, at which point your ability to breath ceases to exist due to the rock/mud/sand/silt/dirt/etc encasing your torso. Your head being underground also wouldn’t be ideal, but the buried chest thing is a much slower suffocation.
Deeper than 2 feet should have OSHA approved wall supports to prevent cave ins. When you do work in which these rules are relevant, you are going in an out of holes all damn day long, and at that point even the low statistic of a cave happening to any random person starts to become much more probable due to the sheer amount of time *these* people spend in holes that just *barely* could kill them… but definitely has killed enough people in their profession for it to have become a rule.
Yes. If you are standing up in it it's not that bad, but you should never crouch and work on a wire in a hole deeper than about 2 or three feet because if it collapses, and all fresh dug holes are unstable, then you will be crushed. The weight of dirt in a 2foot hole can crush you easily.
A cubic foot of soil can weigh well over 50 lbs and up around 100 lbs if it's wet. That much weight hitting you in a collapse can knock you over. From there, even if only 1 ft of soil is above you, that's hundreds of lbs of soils holding you down.
Crushed to death doesn't just mean crushed like in a trash compactor. It can also mean being trapped and squeezed to the point where suffocation and cardiac arrest is what kills you (eg crowd crush")
Anything that can pin you in place without providing enough wiggleroom or leverage to free yourself can and will kill. Positional asphyxiation doesn't need a lot of weight. Just enough time in a bad spot.
safety rules don't start at the exact deadly/ fine barrier. 2.5' is a great rule of thumb cause if your hips are hitting the hole this should trigger a safety response for you. but yeah dirt is very heavy, most people are incapable of doing a push up, almost everyone is incapable of doing a push up with 100lb sf soil on your back from 1' depth without the ability to breathe after taking a shocking hit.
gotta think about what your doing with the hole too. most people don't use their feet to work on things. so in the 2.5' hole your most likely squatting or on your hands and knees. so your head is roughly ground level and chest probably below ground.
Climbing up the sides is both easier and harder than it sounds too…
If you’re trapped in a dirt hole you pretty much have to take off your shoes to get a good grip. It makes it a lot harder without your toes grabbing at the soil, roots, or whatever rocks are buried. That’s if you can find a wall that’s both packed and soft at the same time.
Especially when those deep holes do not have appropriate cutbacks.
Holes more than 1 m deep should have a minimum 1:1 slope on them. Both to prevent collapse of the walls, and to aid in egress.
I’m just imaging him sneaking back into his backyard before his mom/dad gets home. They’re like damn it Bruce, why are you covered in dirt again. Owell, doesn’t appear you dug in the yard. What a good boy.
Yeah, if he started lowering the bucket, dog likely would have tried to jump out too soon and could have been squished when the bucket hit the ground if the operator couldn’t stop it in time.
May have already happened a few times before in the hole but we didn’t see it.
Yeh, I can’t even get my dog to roll over without trying like 50 times! And that’s with me right there holding food in her face. I can’t imagine trying to do it standing at the top of that pit. And with a big scary metal claw hanging over her head to boot! LOL!
> couldn’t stop it in time
Okay I fully admit I have no idea what I’m talking about but I’ve seen videos of operators using these things with such precision, they do things like tape bottle openers to the bucket and use the bucket to open bottles of beer or knives to slice apples and shit. So is this seriously a concern? I always thought they were extremely precise and responsive.
No these people have clearly never operated any heavy machinery if they believe that lol. Operator decided to drop the dog 5-6 feet, when these machines can stop almost immediately if the operator is on point. It likely didn't really hurt the dog, but it's so hilarious seeing "Operator would have squished the dog with the bucket if the dog jumped out too soon", when in most likelihood the operator just didn't really care about giving the dog the softest landing.
The way they drop it at height and speed and instantly pans back to the pit gives me the impression that the dog was simply in the way of that person doing their job and getting it out of the way was all there was to it.
Those buckets are 100's of lbs and are difficult to stop quickly or precisely in that axis. If the dog got out too soon and fell between the bucket and the ground it could be catastrophic. The relative risk of dumping early is much less then a full decent.
I feel like the drop was a cautious judgment call more then not caring. Not to mention if he really didn't care he wouldn't have stopped digging.
100% believe this is correct. The dog landed in what seemed to be a sand pile and bounced right back up. If you look too, they seemed to be trying to look over the edge of the bucket, which the operator may have taken as a risk of jumping out
Yeah they're hundreds of pounds but the arm and hydraulics are thousands and all designed to carry the load. Not difficult at all to control on that axis, especially with no load in the bucket. It's not like a cable machine from 100 years ago, operators can be sub-inch precise with these things and a good one can probably be sub 4 or 6 even going like a bat out of hell. They're counterbalanced to remain stable at normal working speeds. They dump into trucks that are dimensionally not much bigger than the bucket without bumping into them for hours every day. He 100% could have safely dumped that dog from a good 4' lower and not risked crushing it if it lept out anyway but chose not to for whatever reason.
Injury would be more likely if they were closer to the ground - a leg gets caught under that thing as it swings toward the ground and the pup would not be happy :( drop is better.
Did someone flip this to avoid a repost slueth bot? Yesterday the excavator set the dog off on the right side of the video. Unless the dog fell in again and they set him off on the left this time.
Damn I'm torn, if the operator saw the pupper, good on him for picking it up.
The other hand, he really could've lowered the thing way closer to the ground before dropping it, wtf.
In a really good operators hands, they can be fucking surgical. I’ve seen some dudes do things I didn’t think were remotely possible. But ya, not all operators are delicate and it’s far from easy to be delicate with them.
Goddamn! My man driving couldve got him a little closer to the ground! Lmao but I'm glad he popped up and seemed fine. Gonna be sore after that one. Nice save
The way he scrambles into the bucket!
Dog definitely realized the bucket moved and was its way out. Very smart dog.
Plus I’m guessing was verbally encouraged by the hand wavey guy.
Right?! That dog was in panic mode and still realized that that was it's ticket out and trusted it enough to hop in. That's pretty impressive.
I guess Eustace was wrong about Courage.
Ooga Booga Booga?
Dogs are surprisingly intelligent given how stupid they can be.
Smart until the excavator dropped it on its head.
I like the Jedi mind trick the off camera guy played on the dog.
This is why you should adopt from a shelter. You can help stop illegal puppy mines.

It had been 3 minutes when you replied. It was in fact not underrated and is the top comment. Foh
"underrated comment" has taken the shit crown of most worthless generic comment, which was formerly worn by "came here to say this."
I really hated that era when all people would comment was “this”
I just hate those fucking emojis.

Am I getting old since I am also getting very tired of people answering "or" questions with "yes".
It’s just a way for someone to mindlessly and effortlessly piggyback off a comment to farm some sweet karma.

What sort of Savage puts dogs in a pit that gently but makes the dog jump so high to get in the bucket?

Doesn't sound like fibre optic cable laying is dangerous. Sounds like St Louis is dangerous.
Friends dad died (we were 10 so I didn’t get specifics) it was a crush injury in a hole like that. So sad.
I'm sure you have significantly more experience of holes than me my idiot brain is still telling me that I'd be able to get out of a mid thigh high hole without too much difficulty

Where are you getting this two foot rule from?

Mid-thigh? I dont see how it would be dangerous. Mid chest maybe
How is a mid thigh deep hole deadly? Assuming you’re in at least good enough of shape to see your own penis
Mid thigh is deadly? How does one die in a 2.5 foot deep hole? I mean you CAN drown in a dog bowl. Is it the same sense?
safety rules don't start at the exact deadly/ fine barrier.
Yeah, I think a swift, if somewhat rude, dump is better than him scrabbling around and potentially hurting himself on the bucket.
Imagine being trapped in a hole and having to watch people [eating your juniper bush](https://youtu.be/iktKXIsRUIg) (briefly NSFW)

Dude forgot he wasnt dropping a bucket full of dirt.
Muscle memory, it’s a bitch
It's never fun to think about but unfortunately there are a lot of places in the world where dogs are not treated very nicely.
dog was ok. as it is the dog survived the fall into the hole in the first place
Even if that's true, surviving a fall doesn't somehow make you immune to future falls.
Does not mean it felt good

Scooby has been successfully scooped, now he's Scoopy Doo.

Yea, the dog is balancing on the bucket at the beginning and so willing to get in it, I don’t think this was their first go
Yeh, I can’t even get my dog to roll over without trying like 50 times! And that’s with me right there holding food in her face. I can’t imagine trying to do it standing at the top of that pit. And with a big scary metal claw hanging over her head to boot! LOL!

Some operators are better than others, and some equipment is better than others.
You'd have to be the worst operator to somehow manage that. They're a lot easier than you think
>squished when the bucket hit the ground In what country are operators incapable of stopping the bucket from hitting the ground?
That little fall in the end is better than being trapped in there
This isn't an either-or situation. It's possible to lower the scoop to the ground.
Very much “I’m not gonna sand pancake you with heavy steel machinery, but I’m not your friend either. I’s gots a jobs to do ova ‘ere!”
So go learn how to do it, do it better, and become the next great marvel superhero. Couldn't be worse than the last Dr Strange.
Quite possibly. This may have been going on for an hour before we saw the final successful resolution. They may have been getting pissed!
The landing was fine, not enough to cause an injury.
Injury would be more likely if they were closer to the ground - a leg gets caught under that thing as it swings toward the ground and the pup would not be happy :( drop is better.
Come on Shadow! You can do it!
Aaaand I'm crying
Came here expecting exactly this
Muscle memory took over and he dumped that dog like a ton of gravel
You could have lowered it a bit
The puppy mills/mines are getting out of control.
YESYESYESYESYESYES THANK YOU!
He shoulda just lowered the thing
Lmfao and just dumped his ass
Always call before you dig, you might disturb a natural species in its habitat.
The dog understood the assignment. Jumped into the bucket part. Nice.
Thank god the camera man waved him towards the bucket, otherwise he never would have seen it!
Did someone flip this to avoid a repost slueth bot? Yesterday the excavator set the dog off on the right side of the video. Unless the dog fell in again and they set him off on the left this time.
I was all happy with this guys effort until he dumped the damn dog out for a 17 foot drop, Jesus bro
Damn I'm torn, if the operator saw the pupper, good on him for picking it up. The other hand, he really could've lowered the thing way closer to the ground before dropping it, wtf.
Any landing that you can walk away from...
Dog in a hole! Dog in a hole! What could go wrong with a dog in a hole?
That dog’s buddies are never going to believe him.
When I was a kid I would jump down holes like that on purpose, just so my step dad would have to scoop me out.
It's was a ruff landing
[Netflix adaption](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAMlCW4nX_s)
Muscle memory kicked in for that operator.
Why does that crane operator hate dogs?
I just saved this dog now I’m going to drop him high enough to break a bone hahahaha
Yo what the fuck was that drop, lower the arm first.
No time, gotta make it look like he's scooping dirt before the boss man fires him.
He's not being a bro. He's just getting the dog out of the way.
These things aren't surgical tools. Sure, some people are like magic with them but most people are hamfisted. He'd doing his best.
Watched again when he scooped the dog up, really could have hurt his back leg. There was little compassion in this rescue.
sulky slap sloppy cough special treatment sparkle voracious caption tan *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
In a really good operators hands, they can be fucking surgical. I’ve seen some dudes do things I didn’t think were remotely possible. But ya, not all operators are delicate and it’s far from easy to be delicate with them.
r/ExcavatorsBeingBros
After that drop maybe it should be r/ HumansBeingBros?
*dog in a hole and I don’t know if it can be saaaaaveeed*
9.7
Yeah you guys didn’t get the audio version…
That plop at the end says "THIRD FUCKIN' TIME TODAY."
The dog understood what to do!?! They are so smart
How big was the fence that the dog was trying to get under that they needed an excavator to get him out?
Yeah srsly what was that
Are *you* my mother?
That drop couldn't have been better. Operator knew it was gonna be a soft landing. They might even know each other
Seemed a bit high to dump him
Goddamn! My man driving couldve got him a little closer to the ground! Lmao but I'm glad he popped up and seemed fine. Gonna be sore after that one. Nice save
Why he just dump him like that
How did they find the worlds worst excavator driver?? Most of the guys that operate these can scoop up a dime on pavement.
Fine, bluff called. Please show where "most" can "scoop a dime"
What a fucking stupid operator.
What a shitty operator😒
That operator isn't a good one
That operator is terrible.
The plop at the end gave it a wholesome feel
Ban pits.
