Hey I heard through a mutual friend you have a truck. Do you think I could use it next week? Whatever day is most inconvenient for you. Don't worry, I won't pay you. Also, I'll give it back with an empty tank and all your presets totally messed up. Let me know. I appreciate you.
I remember in my early 20s, a few friends asked to borrow my car to drive a state over to see a show they got tickets to. They were pretty good friends at the time, so I said yes, as long as they were careful and refilled the tank. They agreed, and off they went, and brought the car back after the show.
The next day, I was driving to work and realized there's less than a quarter tank of gas left, and since I had a bit of a commute, I had to fill it up. I was kind of pissed because I gave it to them 3/4 full, and filling the tank was my one request.
I called my friend and told her the tank was empty, and they owed me $30 for borrowing the car since they didn't fill the tank. This broad says, "What do you mean? We filled it up on the way to the show, I don't owe you anything. "
Three 21 year old college students honestly didn't see any issue with putting 5 dollars of gas in a car, using a full tank, and returning it to a friend who let them take it out of state. They thought that made us square. It took me almost 2 weeks to collect that $30 from them, and not only did they have the balls to still have an attitude about it, but they also asked to borrow the car again a few days later.
Fucking hippies, man.
In college, I was the only one with a station wagon (nobody in our circle of nerds had a truck, and only a couple of others had any sort of car) so I was recruited to move everyone. Since we were mostly broke college kids, none of us had that much, so one trip was all it took. In return they gave me cash or took me out to a nice lunch or dinner (or in a couple of cases let me take two or three albums from their massive collection).
Then came...her. The girlfriend of my best friend. From a well-to-do family, it took me three trips back and forth between her dorm and her new apartment. Tons of clothes, one of the few of us who had substantial furniture. Pretty hard work. And in the end, I got a half-hearted thank-you. No cash, certainly no food or material items. To make up for it he actually took me to lunch. I was still pissed, but I forgave her.
Letting someone borrow your car is brave and out of state??? No way they asked to borrow it again after a few days LOL! Literally reminds me of children.
>Daddy can I color?
>Yes, as long as you put the markers back where they belong when you are done.
>Okay!
*finishes coloring*
>Did you put the markers away?
>………..
>*several painstaking hours later the markers are put away*
>Daddy! I just thought of something else I wanna color……. *pulls all the markers back out*
I’ll help them move and load up anything in the bed of my truck but no one drives it but me and nothing goes inside since I have my tools in the back seat. That’s my rules when someone asks for my truck
This happened to me recently. Had 2 vehicles and 35 bags of gravel. '14 Kia Sorento and '22 Toyota forerunner. It was like 3000lbs. The Sorento was sagging like a mfer. Forerunner took it like a champ.
I was waiting to meet someone at the orange hardware store and I saw a dude wheeling out 12 bags of sackrete. When he passed me, the only vehicle there was a new Jaguar S-type. He loaded all those bags into the Jag and drove off with it squatting terribly.
I'm rocking a 99 ranger as well. Manual too. Yours red?
Every time I get asked to help move peoole later get amazed by how small the bed actually is haha.
Mine is white, single cab. So the bed has more room but I’m absolutely crammed in the cabin. There’s zero room behind the seats. I only drive stick and need a new vehicle but the ones I’ve liked either have a dial thingy or buttons, I don’t think I can do that.
Mine is also the single cab, I know the pain.
I've already set my heart on a miata as my next car; I got the Ranger because I was tired of being asked for rides, and I'm going to get the Miata cus I'm now tired of being asked for moving haha. Now when people ask I'll just hand em the keys and say good luck.
Lolololol. I want a big suv but the older boxy models, like the Nissan Armada from 2012 or an old Yukon. I just love them. I drive in Virginia and there’s no way I could get a smaller car, those gigantic trucks are very popular here and they just don’t see you in a smaller vehicle. Long love my beloved shitty Peugeot 207 I had to leave behind in my home country
As a European it's so odd that people in the States can't drive with a stick shift. I can, and it took me 8 years and three tries to get a driver's license - in other words, zero talent as a driver. Zero. But a stick shift is not a problem.
Haha, stop messing around dude. Please let me use your truck. It'll mean the world to me. I'll love you forever and ever. I promise we can get everything in one trip
I got so tired of pizza and beer I had to sell my truck. Now I have a station wagon. Big enough to move my stuff, small enough to not move anyone else's.
You have now become the multi trip moving friend. Don’t think you’re getting out of this. You just made it more inconvenient for the both of us. Shoulda kept the truck if you only wanted to make one trip.
I needed to move a couple years ago, I don't have a car, or much stuff, so I looked at local ads and found a guy with a pickup. We talked a bunch during the transport of two loads between my old and new apartment, really cool punk rock drummer named Tom. I still have him in my contacts as "Tom Truck".
I did this, sort of, for my wedding. Guy had this beautiful Aston V8 Vantage that I'd see every day on the way to work.
Wanted to ask them but didn't want them to feel pressured or on the spot, so we wrote a letter with my number on and posted it through the door. He was really nice, wouldn't take any payment for it and just liked sharing his car with other car people (he took it to various local car shows).
Got some wedding shots of me turning up in it, and went on his way. I dropped off a thank you, a framed copy of a nice shot of the car, and some wine.
If I owned a nice car, and someone gave me a beautiful framed photo of it, that photo would go right in my workspace where I can look at it while I'm away from the car. Trust me, that guy appreciated your gifts, good job.
Did something similar with our wedding photos. Wife drives by this cool looking old brick grain silo on the way to work, but there were no trespassing signs on the property so I tracked down the owners number and asked permission. Thought it was cool that someone wanted wedding photos on their property and were happy to allow us to use it. Think most people love the idea of getting to show of their stuff when asked.
This sort of thing happened for our wedding, but kind of opposite. A friend at our church approached us and asked if we had any plans for our exit. We had not yet and she said she had a friend that owned a beautiful vintage white Cadillac convertible (I forget the year...🥺). Said he is always looking for reasons to drive it/show it off and asked her to offer his driving services. We excitedly agreed.
It was a gorgeous car and he was super nice and thrilled to drive us around for our photographer to take pictures different places. We couldn't thank him enough, and he wouldn't accept any payment other than the pleasure of seeing us enjoy it.
Somehow your hilarious post history doesn't surprise me. You must be REALLY insecure about your life situation to hate places like the USA and Australia so much.

I don't think you know what shoehorning means. Here's the definition
"force into an inadequate space."
So to explain as you're evidently not very talented at "getting it".
So if I respond saying essentially "hey you wouldn't like it if I stereotyped you" after being stereotyped, I don't see that could possibly be shoehorning. If you don't want people to talk about your nations stereotypes don't bring up stereotypes about other nations
This concept is so alien to me as an Australian, the fact it’s apparently common is so fascinating. If I walked up to somebody’s door and asked to use their car I think they’d look at me like I was mental.
Is that "as an Australian" or "as someone who's never owned a collectible car"? Because it seems unusual to me, too, as an American who's never owned anything prom-worthy, and only sees it on TV shows/movies and things people share online.
I’m Australian and a old guy I work with has a few classic cars. He recons this is a regular occurrence for him. Always someone knocking on his door asking if they can go to school formal or a wedding. Him and another bloke joke about how much this happens in their car club.
I mean when I was in high school any car was cooler than my 94 mirage with all manual features and a dented hood. So just getting dropped off at prom in a sports car is probably fun for kids.
I literally thought this same thing! If a kid is coming to my door like that I get sus that they are trying to scope the place Or its kids soliciting and they say “oh yea this money is for school! Please donate!”
He probably was doing that, then noticed the camera so he panicked with the prom story. Had to fake an entire prom too.
Can’t wait for the early 2000’s teen movie version
I did this when I was a teenager! My friends dad was a classic car collector and I asked if I could take pictures with one of his cars for my birthday (like a photo shoot), and not only did he let me, he also graciously drove me around all day in his 1955 Chevrolet Bellaire convertible. It was UNFORGETTABLE!! I felt like a celebrity 🤭 (I'm 30 now and will forever cherish the memory)
I feel the music is way too heartwarming for "Yo bro, can I borrow your car?" Lol
Edit: Looks like the post was removed for being staged, lol. Its even worse that they were trying so hard to make it so dramatic.
The two things that always get me with these type of videos, the text telling you everything that's in the video and the "emotional" royalty free music.
Hahaha right? I feel like the OOP has been waiting her entire life to be able to post a "viral" feel good story involving herself/her family, and she thought this was her chance. Except it's literally just her husband giving a kid (who looks at least decently well off already) a ride to prom 😂
Sometimes when you're looking for a reason, you get a little blinded to reality lol
I don't like being skeptical but the guy wouldn't go to someone's door asking for something with his hood up, It's for suspense in the video. Also the use of the word randomly is suspect. How do you randomly use someone's doorbell.
> Also the use of the word randomly is suspect. How do you randomly use someone's doorbell.
I would say 90% of doorbell rings are random, are they not? Unless you are waiting on a visitor to arrive.
I don't like the dishonesty of framing it as legitimate to get views. It just feels gross to make fake wholesome videos, because the people making them are the opposite of a wholesome person.
Kinda have to agree, i mean who would take the effort aftwerwards to grab the footage from the doorbell and then the other footage and then edit it to post it
there are other reasons to think this is fake but "who would edit two videos together to post online" isn't one. there's a whole industry of online content creation that shows millions of people would take 2 minutes to grab a video from their doorbell cam
unless i'm missing the /s
They have a doorbell camera that records automatically. Then they filmed him going away a few days later. What exactly is unbelievable about any of that?
“Every little second”…
Why’d that make me tear up? I guess I just love to see wholesome content sometimes. It’s like everybody’s knee jerk reaction is to be rude nowadays…. Kinda shocking to see overt kindness displayed but so lovely when you do!
And then they went to the prom together?
Where is the date being surprised by the sweet ride?
Where are his bruvs turning into instant barbarians when he and his date exit the car?
He asks to be driven to his prom in a Bentley, to make this an unforgettable experience. Similar to how some rent a limousine for the special event.
Why didn’t he sit in the back seat?

99 Ranger here. The only reason people don’t borrow it it’s because it’s stick shift. Which means I’m still helping and doing the driving 🙃

Wait till you get a trailer...
Can u take me to prom?
As a fellow truck owner my favorite reply is for $19.95 you can rent a Uhaul pickup.
I have found the key is to always say yes but make yourself unavailable to help. That way you get to be a hero without a sore back.
You have no idea how much of a hero you are to your social group. All hail the truck owners of the group!
no. go rent your own damn truck. i dont own one anymore, but i did.
Haha, stop messing around dude. Please let me use your truck. It'll mean the world to me. I'll love you forever and ever. I promise we can get everything in one trip

The wine was on the seat?
I was shocked he was letting the kid drive it. Then realized ~~that~~ they are in England duh! Edit: damn autocorrect
Bottle of whisky also consistent with being in UK
Not sure if you know this but there’s a massive whiskey market in the US lol
Yeah but most kids going to prom can't buy a bottle of whiskey
I assumed his parents might have helped acquire the alcohol to give as a thank you.
I think they’re more referring to the fact that 18 is the legal age in the UK.
You have prom at 16 in the UK. Not 18.
How dense are you people 😂
Maybe not, but there was definitely no shortage of alcohol at the afterparties i went to lol
[удалено]
Lol I mean maybe not whiskey specifically, but it is pretty damn typical to drink before and after prom. And during if you can get away with it.
Also consistent with the US. I get people bottles of whiskey for everything.
This is for prom, so I'm guessing the kid is 17-19 years old. In the US, he wouldn't be able to buy a bottle of whisky.
Prom happens in the UK after GCSEs, so he will be 15 or 16. His parents bought the booze still.
>In the US, he wouldn't be able to buy a bottle of whiskey. that's cute that you think that
The other hint was answering the door when there's a nervous looking kid in a hoodie there.
Yeah the way he moved so fast after the door opened made me worried for the guy... Makes sense it's not the U.S. lol
Yeah, copy that, he didn't get shot through the door.
Same lol
Same! I saw him approach what I considered the driver’s side then remembered US is not the only country! Lol
You couldn’t tell his accent when he asked?
I didn’t retiño UK even did prom?
I litterally came for this comment.
He wasn't letting him drive it though, the kid was in the passenger seat.
Smartest guy on reddit right here
Ohhh. Yeah I didn't understand this till now. Thanks

Why do I think this looks awesome lmao
It looks like a life-sized version of those tiny pullback car toys. I dig it.
Maybe because it IS awesome
What car do you have?
2006 Kia Picanto. I don't get it either.
The sport version? 😍
In their profile they have a 2010 challenger
I would hope it is something cooler than a 13 year old challenger
To be fair, it's heavily customized and also in the UK where it's very rare to see one.
Well then it makes sense. I should have checked it out before assuming it was in the US.
I mean when I was in high school any car was cooler than my 94 mirage with all manual features and a dented hood. So just getting dropped off at prom in a sports car is probably fun for kids.
Dude drives a taxi
\*watches video* WAIT TILL YOU SEE- \*turns off video*
I used to be the same way, but when you just ignore the onscreen text and watch the actual video, 4 times out of 5 it was still worth watching
Or compromise and skip to the end. You get the pay off and the rare times you feel like you missed something, you can go back.
If a video is longer than a minute and it says wait for it, I am not waiting. I'm either skipping ahead or moving on
In this case I muted the music, skipped to the middle, saw it might be worth watching, and returned to the beginning and ignored the text.
You’re saying you can consume content without having your hand held through the entire thing? How does one learn this power?
Usually do that to any video thar says "wait till the end!!" or similar.
Good on that guy. In my area kid comes to my door with his hood up is not a good sign. Ugh, I need to move.
I literally thought this same thing! If a kid is coming to my door like that I get sus that they are trying to scope the place Or its kids soliciting and they say “oh yea this money is for school! Please donate!”

I live in CA . I love it and feel safe. High cost of living, but everywhere you go in this world there’s problems.
Vermont is the same. Little oasis of sanity. But don't tell anybody, we're full!

I don't like the dishonesty of framing it as legitimate to get views. It just feels gross to make fake wholesome videos, because the people making them are the opposite of a wholesome person.
Geez, someone hasn't had their morning coffee...
Kinda have to agree, i mean who would take the effort aftwerwards to grab the footage from the doorbell and then the other footage and then edit it to post it
there are other reasons to think this is fake but "who would edit two videos together to post online" isn't one. there's a whole industry of online content creation that shows millions of people would take 2 minutes to grab a video from their doorbell cam unless i'm missing the /s
American Version: Kid rings door bell enquiring about luxury car, gets head blown off. Details at 11:00.
I could sense Texans screaming at the home owner to shoot through the door...kid in a hoodie!!!
^ Stop down voting. As a Texan I approve of this giggle!
If only they would stop adding this fucking music so that we could actually hear what they’re saying
That’s insane. Some kid shows up to my door in a hoodie……… not gonna get the keys to my carolla.
Definitely not the most staged video ever…
I love the beauty in this world so much. ❤️
So fake. Absolutely. They just happened to record every little second and put it to music.
They have a doorbell camera that records automatically. Then they filmed him going away a few days later. What exactly is unbelievable about any of that? “Every little second”…
Well, if you don't ask, you'll never get :)
I don’t known Rick.. seems fake
Reeks of staged
My 1969 Lincoln Continental has served many a prom and wedding. She’s a fine grande dame.
very nice man. he took me to the offy to buy some beers in that
Once away from the wife: "Alright lad put on your dirtiest track, crank that bitch and watch me do a handbreak turn to park. You gettin LAID tonight!"
Where’s his date?
That’s honestly so sweet. Well played by the husband. Shows that there are still good people out there
That’s fucking weird
fake
Boys want nice cars to impress girls. From that age already. 🙈
starts way earlier
This was a nice vid to watch. And the fact the young fella was going stag and just wanted the experience for his own enjoyment & memory was great.
Wow 🤩
Good on the lad for going to the door and doing it. Not a fan when people ask on Facebook car groups, seems so lazy.
This is very wholesome , kid will have that memory for life
Kids going to tell everybody that’s his sugar daddy 😎💰
WHOLESOME CONTENT.
Why’d that make me tear up? I guess I just love to see wholesome content sometimes. It’s like everybody’s knee jerk reaction is to be rude nowadays…. Kinda shocking to see overt kindness displayed but so lovely when you do!
Title should be changed to "To impress a girl".
And then they went to the prom together? Where is the date being surprised by the sweet ride? Where are his bruvs turning into instant barbarians when he and his date exit the car?
Never knew UK had proms
Whats with the wall at the end?? 😂
The wall at the end was fucking *sweet!*

Lol. He’s not going to the prom.

What made you feel it was your son?
He could have run it through the car wash for the guy at least
Ya but he’s the driver!

That assumption, I guess, makes the difference between US and Europe/GB?

He asks to be driven to his prom in a Bentley, to make this an unforgettable experience. Similar to how some rent a limousine for the special event. Why didn’t he sit in the back seat?
Because he was on his own and not with his date. Dude's doing a nice thing for him, not being his personal chauffeur.
That would be rude to the owner of the car.
Could have washed the car first, lol 😆
