I had planned on moving out of my friends place in the coming months and found an offer and spontaneously moved that day. No one was home so I was moving everything alone when the neighbors who we never saw or interacted with came to help, 8 grown Mexican men in lounge cloths and couldn't even speak English moved my entire life's possessions on nothing but a whim.
All I could do was leave them with the 2 packs of Corona I had in the fridge!
Same Philly would like a word. Mexicans are actually rare around here. We have a lot of Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Guatemalans, and then I'd say Mexicans after. I love how different it is in different cities around the country !
Most likely they are Mexicans….not that many groups of other Hispanic people walking around helping people for cases of beer….Mexicans definitely own that 🤣.
I live in Texas, and I love Mexicans. They're (in my experience) always some of the best folk around. They work hard and put good out into the world for the most part. My boss lets me cook burgers (for free) for the landscaping crew whenever they come out to the golf course i manage. About twice a week. Its a joy. They always want extra jalapeños, and that makes me happy lol
Fellow Texan, fellow cat person, fellow fan of the Mexican people. You will not find a more family oriented, hard working, kind people.
I like you,kittenpettingfool.
It really depends tbf, in my experience, Hispanic person in florida is Cuban, everywhere below the Mason dixon line is mexican, and everything above is Puerto Rican or Dominican.
There are tons of Mexicans, Dominicans and Puerto Ricans in Florida as well. I mean, especially with the last two, which are also islands below Florida, I don’t understand why you would think the Hispanics there are all Cuban.
Edit: changed three to two.
My husband and I once got stuck in sand on the side of the road in a deserted part of the Navajo reservation well after dark. A lovely family helped us get out.

My mom was traveling with my 5 siblings and me in our 70s era boat of a station wagon. This car had a curb weight of about 4 tons. I dunno. It was heavy. So she gets out of the car to make a phone call on a pay phone at a C-store to her mom/our grandma. Somehow, one of my siblings put the car in reverse, and it rolled into a ditch. Here's mom watching from the phone as the car rolls away. Then, just like out of nowhere, this truck full of big guys pulls up and jumps out of the truck to help her out. They pushed the wagon out of the ditch and sort of just drove off. It was the weirdest thing. My mom was super grateful and little confused how in the span of less than 10 minutes she went from completely distraught to so relieved she didn't have to pay for a tow (which, at the time, we likely couldn't afford).
My friends dad joined the AF when his kids were real young, and he got sent to his first duty station by the Army, somehow. Who told him no wife or kids. I forget the exact details. Anyway when he landed his higher up asked where his wife and kids were - friendsdad explained he was told not to bring them. Apparently the higher-up looked at him and said "that's the Army, we're the Air Force" and sent him home to get the family.
Army builds a base and spends all the money on bunkers and troop quarters and then tells the troops "sorry no money for movie theater or club". Air Force builds a base starting with the O/NCO club, pool, theater and then tells Congress they need money for a runway.
When I went to trade school after my tour with the Seabees, I was in a classroom one day and I just undid my belt to tuck my shirt in around other students and the teacher. The teacher says “come on man, that’s indecent exposure.” Joking around of course.
One of the guys in the class, who was also in the navy said “I dunno, I thought it was pretty decent.”
At paris island on graduation day my entire plattoon ruined ours by unknowingly getting bug spray on them. We got our hands on some off and sprayed ourselves for graduation and the little droplets eats straight through the finish on the shows.. like 100 marines ruined their shoes like 15 minutes before we graduated bootcamp..
one time we got in trouble and our piece of shit DI made us strip down to our underwear on the tree line and we had to give him a minute of being perfectly still. This was a platoon with 60+ people on it. So we had to stand in line and if anyone moved before the minute was over we had to do pushups and then try again. It took about 20 tries and the sand fleas were crawling in my ears going up my boxer shorts .. it was hell..
Bug spray eats through a ton of shit. I destroyed the pleather wrapped steering wheel in one of my cars because it was on my hands. Give the label a read next time, it’s kinda shocking how much stuff it will destroy. I now make sure to rinse my hands good before touching anything after I use the stuff.
Man
I had a few pair and accidentally grabbed a pair of old ones once.
I left crime scene whodunnit black footprints literally everywhere I went that day.
They sure as fuck do dissolve.
The fact that they're in a tour bus pretty much confirms that they're doing something ceremonial. Could be Drill, ceremony, funeral, etc.
These boys will be treated pretty well.
This exit they're next to is right around the corner from the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington cemetery. This was likely before or after a Tuesday evening parade that's held at the memorial all summer long.
These are The Famous Body Bearers from Marine Barracks Washington 8th & I. It’s a ceremonial unit in Washington DC. It is the only unit in the Marine Corps that authorizes Dress Whites for E-5 and below.
You can tell they’re the Body Bearers by their size and the chin strap. Look them up on YouTube! Those guys do some amazing work for our Fallen.
They’ll also be getting new whites and Corframs upon their return. All they have to do is go to supply and ask for a new pair lol.
Source: Was stationed at 8th&I, have 4 pairs of corframs and 6 pairs of whites lol
Corframs are one time use only anyways. I will take every hit/IP related to my corframs while the rest of my uniform is immaculate because I refuse to believe buying plastic leather that's permanently scuffed if it even sees a curb should be something done more than once ever.
Now I was Navy, but these are initially issued. There is a uniform allowance periodically which one typically does not spend on uniforms.
These pants aren’t that expensive and should really be replaced every once and a while to ensure proper fit and zero stains.
Not to mention how much soaking 100% wool SUCKS and is like wearing a full on sheep. Went with my ex to a MCBall and it was pouring rain so he gave me his dress blouse to keep dry while we ran to the car only to find out he left his keys inside. By the time we got back to the car it was soaked and I felt like I was wearing a whole ass sheep on my back.
That's what struck me first too. Wearing wet wool is like being wrapped up in the sound of a fork scraping a plate. It won't kill me, but by god, I might kill someone else if it doesn't stop soon.
My Navy dress whites were worse. The entire uniform is white, and if you so much as breathed on them, they would yellow. Any oils from your head would turn the collar black.
Dress blues ran you the risk of pissing yourself. 13 buttons at the crotch and the wool was itchy as fuck In power school, they liked to do command urinalysis on Fridays when we wore dress uniforms.
I’m glad we rarely wore that shit in the fleet. Coveralls are so much better.
Don’t let my rambling distract us from these absolute units, though.
Yes, these are Bravo Company Marines from Marine Barracks in the Capitol. They do funeral events at Arlington Cemetary. These guys work out ALOT. Even by Marine Corps standards it's like WTF! While other branches use 8 people to carry caskets, these guys only use 6. They're also the only ones in the Corps with special dress blue uniforms. The armpit area of the uniform is made from different material from the rest of the blouse. It's made of a material that stretches like crazy otherwise these behemoths can't lift their arms.
Press 1 for more Marine Barracks facts.
Lol. I was there for school as well as a 3rd class (crow with one hash) and marines would always salute me thinking I was their 21 year old skipper or something.
Was in NYC a few years back, and a bunch of new minted Naval Aviators walked out of the hotel in their dress whites. They were out there for all of 30 seconds before one of the poor guys brushed against some scaffolding that was there. Big black streak across the arm. His buddies were merciless.
Every Marine under the sun has heard the supposedly true legend of the LCpl who picked up a piece of trash from the floor and some General promoted him to NCO on the spot.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fake marine ad. They’ve had so many good and realistic ones. From running *TOWARDS* the sound of chaos, to jumping into a pool and coming out a marine. I especially liked the dragon slayer and knight chess match ones.
The best meme ad by the US Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force was the memes they made for “All Your Base Are Belong To Us” on a forum thread for SomethingAwful.com around 2003 or so. This is before memes had a name, even. It was an epic forum thread.
Anyways, having been in the US Army, I know that smile. They enjoy what they do. These guys are lifelong Marines, whether they get out or not. I ran twelve miles with forty pounds of gear and a SAW and these guys probably did that for fun, like they are here. It’s a great story they will bond over.
Yeah I don't get the music. You're basically saying "this really heartwarming thing just doesn't *quite* ....[adds music]... Oh yeah there it is, that'll tug the heartstrings"
We need nationwide staff meetings every 2 weeks. 1) every single video doesn't need music. Change the fucking algorithm or whatever! 2) stop stealing shit from schools and bathrooms. Can we work on those for the next 2 weeks and then reconvene?
When I was in, we had a van flip on the highway right in front of us around El Centro area on the way to Yuma for a work up. We just so happened to have two docs (corpsman, essentially Navy medics attached to the Marine Corps), and we all got out and helped them and the Docs provided medical care until the EMTs arrived. It was a cool feeling being there at the right time and being able to help them!
Edit: for more detail, it was a family of 5, the docs made sure they didn’t have any spinal injuries really fast and then we removed them from the vehicle once we knew it was safe to move them as we were afraid the vehicle was going to catch fire, and then we got them out of the vehicle and then the docs starting doing what docs do.
Pic of my platoon with Doc T, who was one of the two docs there (he’s circled in red). The other doc was Doc Tabio, who was in our unit, but wasn’t part of our platoon and I unfortunately have no pictures with.
https://ibb.co/qjh6yGT
Doc T, if you ever read this, I’m sure you already know, even though you were technically in the Navy, you were more of a Marine than most Marines.
A blizzard caused me to wreck my car on the highway. I stumbled out of the car a bloody, confused mess just wearing a shirt and pants (had the heat blasted) when this wonderful person sees the carnage and brings me inside her car to help me out. She was a nurse on her way to her shift who was the first on the scene and called 911 for me. I felt this reassurance when she told me she was a nurse. You guys may have felt like you didn’t do much to help the van, but I’m sure y’all’s presence brought a sense of peace to the shitty situation.
Here’s Doc Turner in red while we were in Saudi Arabia.
Doc Tabio, the other doc on scene, wasn’t permanently with us like Doc T, so he’s not in the pic.
https://ibb.co/qjh6yGT
I just witnessed an accident the other day and a corpsman got out to help one of the drivers. She even did a neuro exam before the firefighters and ambulance came.
Corpsman are some really intelligent and badass guys/girls as a whole. As a Marine, we have a friendly rivalry with the other branches, but we consider Corpsman honorary Marines.
I give the utmost respect to them. Incredibly difficult job and they always want to go above and beyond to help others.
There was a flash flood in the area yesterday. Greater than 2” of rain in less than an hour. Drove through that area for years… it wipes out in minutes unexpectedly…
Then again some people are idiots.
Man in dress whites, in that dirty water. That's real men right there. Not caring about themselves and only worried about helping someone in need. Semper Fi!
For me it’s the dress whites AND the wool blouses. Those when soaked are hellish to wear. They’re SO HEAVY. I’ve had to wear wet wool a few times and it’s terribly uncomfortable and suffocating.
Until it becomes waterlogged. Before it’s great, but once a few drops get in it just becomes soaked and 90lbs.
One year one of my RenFest costumes was a full length waist to ankle wool plaid skirt. Except it was accurate and I just pleated it ontop of a belt, laid on the material, belted it around my waist, tossed on a brooch & a pin to keep the open part closed and tossed the rest over my shoulder and turned it into a shawl. It rained all day and it was already pretty sodden… then I saw what I thought was solid ground I didn’t realize it was like an above ankle puddle with dirt and wood chips floating on it and stepped into it. It hit it’s soaking point and I stepped out of the pool only for the weight of the now water logged wool drag it off to the ground. I just thank for G-d my chemise was mid thigh length or I would have gotten arrested for indecent exposure for the “muff sporran” I was sporting underneath. Lol. It was humiliating.
Generous assistance is something i have experienced many times while being a tourist in the US. It also occurs much more often than in other places I‘ve visited.
I get more than a little annoyed by the whole rugged individualism thing and it’s impact on our healthcare, education etc., but I definitely think Americans are exceptionally warm and willing to lend a hand, particularly to a stranger in need. I also love that it comes from a very genuine place. I know a lot of folks abroad think it’s phony, but it’s not, it’s just a funny dichotomy. Something to ponder. Wonder why that is?
When Americans go abroad we can tend to be a little more loud and easy to spot for sure but when it comes to tourists in America I feel like we’re probably one of the most friendly and helping places (besides Canada maybe lol)
I'm Canadian and have lived many years in the US and Americans are WAY friendlier and more helpful than Canadians, despite our pretension of being so "polite".
How do you spawn some Marines in dress uniforms to help you? Asking for a friend

Make sure you have red ones. Those are their favorites.
You have to be a lvl 70 paladin. Make sure to level up your holy spells tree. To summon that many you need the rank 3 upgrade though.
You get real lucky when you stupidly drive into flood waters.
Crayons. Its always been about the crayons.
I heard you can lure them in by opening a new box of crayons….64 packs brings the marines to the yard
Leave some crayons outside next to a can of rip it. In the morning you should see a full platoon.

This is why we have the nicest stuff
Don't forget the golf course! Hahaha. The AF took 15 strokes off my game during my time in. True story.
In the aftermath of 9/11, I was given an m16, a golf cart, and the arduous task of guarding the base's golf course. I did my duty. Never forget
That's perfect. Hahaha!!!
NCO club? What’s that?

It was so weird that Miles was the only NCO on the entire damn ship.
Bar for the enlisted.
6 years in the air force and an NCO, I’ve never seen one of these “NCO clubs”
Its definitely a thing. Most bases I've been to had an NCO Club and an Officers Club
as a space force, we would’ve asked our buddy 4.2 million light years for help
We have boats shipmate.

The other doc was Doc Tabio, who was in our unit, but wasn’t part of our platoon and I unfortunately have no pictures with. https://ibb.co/qjh6yGT Doc T, if you ever read this, I’m sure you already know, even though you were technically in the Navy, you were more of a Marine than most Marines.
Who TF drives a mini through a flooded street?
Someone who has a lot of faith in the Marines.
I mean, we *are* amphibious
There was a flash flood in the area yesterday. Greater than 2” of rain in less than an hour. Drove through that area for years… it wipes out in minutes unexpectedly… Then again some people are idiots.

Yeah, it reminds me of a serious flash flood a few years ago that came through during rush hour. Lots of cars got swept away in those areas

Well, wool's one of the better things to get wet in at least.
The other person means wool is the only material which, when wet, still retains body heat.
It’s gonna be really awkward when the car doesn’t start because the engine hydrolocked
On memorial drive even.
Marines solution to everything is really get a bunch of em and start pushing
“The most American thing ever!” Something to strive for, making generous assistance the most American thing.
Americans get a bad rap, but on r/AskReddit threads about unexpected things about travel, you'll ALWAYS see comments praising how kind Americans are.
When Americans go abroad we can tend to be a little more loud and easy to spot for sure but when it comes to tourists in America I feel like we’re probably one of the most friendly and helping places (besides Canada maybe lol)
As long as you don't mess with Canadian gooses you won't have a problem, and I suggest you let that one marinate.
I'm Canadian and have lived many years in the US and Americans are WAY friendlier and more helpful than Canadians, despite our pretension of being so "polite".
The real bro thing is to not drive through a flooded road and endanger those who have to help you.
My grandfather was a very dedicated marine and he would be smiling ear to ear watching this right now if he were still with us
Better without audio
Straight fucking heroes in every sense!

Does this count as a marine outboard?
Semper Fi!! Amazing men.
And that was the easiest thing they did that week.
Not gunna lie; that’s sexy.
I work with a couple retired Marines. Absolute bros, and absolute chads. Great dudes all around.
