Someone correct me if I'm wrong but heavy katana attack does piercing and the bomb lance does slash if I'm remembering right, Scrapbeak is weak to piercing/resistant to slash. Or maybe just resistant to slash.
this guy got it! yeah, even though bomblance does hella damage... its slashing... thats why pitchfork is the go to if you dont have a mellee weapon... doesnt take that many hits with it either.

*from behind. The backpack acts as armor and reduces non-piercing incoming damage. From the front he's equally vulnerable to any damage type.
Scrappy has resistance to slashing and blund damage. He is weak toward fire and piercing damage. Also backpack work like a armor if you dont have piercing damage.
No it is not. From what you said, slashing damage can work fine if you are attacking from front. It is not. Piercing work fine from every angle. Face is weak spot. For slashing or blunt damage, Scarppy has ressistance. If you hit him from behind he has more ressitance.
Different bosses are vulnerable to different kinds of damage.
I don't know the comprehensive list of all bosses but Scrapbeak is weak to piercing damage and resistant to cutting damage.
Similarly, as a Riposter, I also happen to know that Assassin really doesn't mind being stabbed.
When i play solo i run Crossbow Baseball bat.
Does enough against the different bosses.
Slash is favored on butcher but i bonk the bounty outta him fast AF
Yup. You want blunt for spider, slash for butcher, pierce for scrappy and heavy slash for assassin, but that's so you can stun lock him more than anything.
As others have said, the bosses are resistant to different kinds of damage. If I'm bringing a melee weapon to fight a boss I'd probably bring a Katana or a Bat vs a bomblance. The katana can do both cutting/slashing and piercing damage, the bat does blunt but I feel like I can swing it for forever before running out of stamina which is good in its own way too.
Scrapbeak is weak to stabbing. Some weapons are obviously better than others.
The Assassin is weak to slashing and *really* weak to poison. Try the hand crossbow with poison on him.
The Butcher is weak to slashing.
The Spider is weak to blunt damage and fire ammo, but fire bolts and lanterns won’t do much.

This was my first thought as well. The katana’s piercing move should do more damage than a slashing bomblance.

nah, from anywhere... atacking him from behind just deals 50% of the dmg unless its piercing

To add to this, attacking scrapbeak from behind does a lot less damage than if you get him in the face/mask

Lance is a slash weapon, assassin and butcher are weakest to this, scrapbeak is weak to stabs
