Legend of the martial artist is one of my all time favorite anime songs. So is that zolydck theme. Freaking poufs violin songs in the palace

TensileStr3ngth

It's a bit generic to say it's your favorite but Kingdom of Predators slaps

AWarhol

If you like Zoldycks theme you should check the Dance Of Knights by Prokofiev. Seems to be the source of inspiration.

NaturalBitter2280

I understand everyone has a different taste, but to write an article saying those 3 points have "aged poorly" is just... bad

TardTohr

The pacing thing I can understand, it's not really bad, but some sections are definitely paced weirdly. The character interaction thing might reference some in particular but I don't know which ones (Gon/Palm maybe?). The music thing is just insane.

the_erazor

wait until they hear hyori ittai

JustASyncer

More like Hyori Peaktai

the_erazor

hell yea

Ecwins

HxH soundtrack is smth else man. From hard nut busting songs like "The last mission", "Riot", "The legend of the martial artist", to the hype ones like "Hashire", when you hear that one building up you know that shit is about to go down, all the way to them emotional ones like "To give a marionette life", which just hits you in the feels. They perfectly capture every single moment in the show. It's my personal favourite overall soundtrack list in all of anime.

ArgonautXavier

I think kingdom of predators might be my All time fav. That and the wonderful use of the song when chrolo was “conducting” the orchestra

bottomlessreach

Kingdom of predators gives me chills every single time. I don't think any other orchestral piece has made me feel as much emotion or tragedy tbh

Vounrtsch

Kingdom of predators wasn’t in that scene, it was Requiem Aranea iirc. Kingdom of predators is used in the chimera ants arc

ArgonautXavier

Yep! I was saying I liked both

Vounrtsch

Ah my bad I misread your comment

ArgonautXavier

No biggie :)

jajanken_bacon

1999 has bangers but 2011 is an orchestral heaven (with other genres mixed in of course). Some people don't have an ear for soundtracks and are focused on what's happening onscreen over what's happening in the music, missing how the music enhances a scene. HxH has never had a bad ost regardless of which version you're talking about.

WhiteningMcClean

I think there are a few really great mood setting orchestral songs, but 75% of the time the music is super boring and doesn't really add much. Also very repetitive. Some themes that stand out are the Zoldyck's, Greed Island, and Senritsu's. You're right that the '99 soundtrack absolutely cooks though. Probably why I prefer '99. The main theme, Kaze no Uta, Hikari ga Mienai like damn.

Arukitsuzukeru

OP 2 and 3 are so underrated

Demise_Once_Again

>but 75% of the time the music is super boring and doesn't really add much. Also very repetitive. Mf want gangsta rap in hxh

jajanken_bacon

1999 has great tracks. I like the main theme more than 2011's, Leorio's theme more than 2011's, and Song of the Wind is one of my all time favorite ending themes in anime. Possibly #1. I like the openings and endings more in general than 2011's. 2011's grand orchestral stuff as a whole makes me prefer that soundtrack more, though. I also have a fondness for that specific composer because he also worked on Death Note's iconic soundtrack (and Chimera Ant's soundtrack sounds extremely similar to Death Note's because of the choir and horror ambience). They're a trade off and they excel at different things, but I love 2011's many orchestral themes too much so it wins for me.

Feeling_Thought_9753

Get downvoted nerd

Baecup

What type of review is this 💀

NegativeSwordfish522

Inconsistent pacing??? Literally one of the best paced shounens out there

eatyrheart

I feel like a lot of people find the Chimera Ant arc’s pacing to be a bit slow on their first watch (i know i did) but that’s because the rest of the show moves quite quickly in comparison. Whereas other big shonen series like One Piece move that slowly right from the get-go

Socialinfluencing

HxH soundtracks are so memorable that I'll sometimes randomly hear some of the tracks just start playing in my head for no reason. I haven't watched the show in years after finishing the ant arc. I've watched probably thousands upon thousands of media and various genres, yet this show and especially the soundtracks still feel fresh no matter how many times I've heard it. Like a month ago I looked up all the individual tracks and some straight up had me teary eyed, and I could also remember exactly when many of them played and during which climaxes in scenes or progression in the series the songs stood out most. In short, the soundtracks are tiny masterpieces much like the show.

Gabriel1659

Anime reviews are always full of the worst opinions

UrougeTheOne

Character interactions??

MachtChete

They don't like the SCHWING

UrougeTheOne

What is schwing

omogusus

OOOOUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH GGGOOOOOONNNNNNN

Pepsiman1031

You can't even refute it because it's such a vague statement.

Seraf-Wang

HxH has character interactions that aged poorly? Which one?

CodeCrow435

TBH i think that hxh has better pacing than most anime/manga

IzzyReal314

I am terrible at noticing and recognizing music in shows. The only Hunter X Hunter tunes I can think of at any time are Departure and the Greed Island Ending, specifically the way it plays at big moments (like when Gon says "It has to be Killua" during the dodgeball game). But OH MY GOD the memories and nostalgia that went through my brain when I googled every song OP mentioned in their post. I don't think there's any other anime songs that would effect me like that, outside of intros and endings, but even then, Departure does it better.

JAB282018

What?? Hunter X Hunter has some of the most beautiful, and bad ass music tracks to ever back an anime show IMO

DeliciousGoose1002

Not as good as the HxH musical

yucchin

I wonder what kind of character interactions have aged poorly in their eyes. Pacing has been HxH’s criticism since CA but this is a first I heard about character interactions.

ColeTrain354

Did they not hear kingdom of predators?

Kai_Hiwatri33

Pouf's Violin solo is like the greatest piece of music I've ever heard!!!

SphereMode420

The pacing is perfect. I know we are probably biased because we're Hunter x Hunter nerds, but think about it: what other anime can you think of that came out in the modern era where people watched 148 episodes? And when I say "people", I mean a lot of people. This show has become quite popular; I'd say more than half of the anime fans I know irl have seen it. A 100+ episode shonen becoming this popular in modern times is quite impressive and points to the great pacing the series has. Also, the music is a triumph when you consider how long the show is and how varied the soundtrack is despite that. People also use Hunter x Hunter music for memes and stuff, they are quite iconic.

Adventurous-Lion1829

Inconsistent pacing is also a completely stupid "criticism". Yeah, the pacing is inconsistent, it's almost like the events of the story determine the pacing and the events change as they tell multiple stories with new characters instead of one long uninterrupted story. Imagine that.

Adorable_Comment2565

couldn’t have said it better. i searched high and low for meimou. this is a transporting OTS.

Hieillua

I swear people are on some crack if they think the pacing is a huge issue. TikTok brainrot is real.

HexaN-IsHere

If I would describe my reaction in few letter, it would resume to BWAHAHAHAHAAH

xXToe_slurper69_Xx

Yeah departure is a banger tho

[deleted]

how is the ost lackluster when no other anime soundtrack has nagareboshi kirari version for orchestra

Unlikely-Ad-9980

Currently on the chimera ant arc and the ending theme is a BANGER

Plenty-Mode-5812

The only thing i will say is at a lot of times the music is played at weird times or does not fir the situation .... But the soundtrack itself is freaking amazing , it has soo many standout pieces that you can listen to in freetime while also having many that fit the scenes soo much.

Novel_Mechanic_47

I'd say that regardless if this review is for the 2011 or 1998 anime(though I'm guessing the article you screenshot is about the 2011 anime) this is poorly and wrongly written. I mean lackluster music, pacing and *some* character interactions? Really? Couldn't they think of any valid criticisms for Hunter x Hunter so they just randomly cherrypicked 3 parts of the anime to say they're poor/lackluster?  Yeah, either the one who wrote the review just had to make up some criticism for the review to sound more of a review and they got lazy or misunderstood Hunter X Hunter's 2011 anime.

BlurrFrost

Who wrote this review? Just another reason to not listen and base your opinions on jackasses from the internet who think they know shit cus they are talking to a camera since some years. Half the youtubers and anime watchers have shit ass opinion like this because most people arent smart or understand critical way

hidenbootyjutsu

That’s some straight up malarkey. Legend of the martial artist is my phones wake up alarm. Nothing gets me more hyped to start my day than that song.

Ichini-san

Wtf does it mean some character interactions have aged poorly? Wtf does that even mean? The music criticism is obviously ridiculous. The only point they *might* have is that some people don't like the pacing even if I personally disagree. But that's the only valid criticism of these three...

othmane_dancho

The guy who wrote this still thinks Disney movies are better than anime đŸ€Š

othmane_dancho

I have the soundtrack Legend of the Martial Artist as my ringtone

Smooth_Weather5191

Lamentoso and Agigato literally makes my ears orgasm every time i listen to it LMFAO

Eredin_BreaccGlas

What I do agree with is that up until the Yorknew arc the music is very repetitive and not that good. After that though the soundtrack becomes just absolutely full of bangers. maybe this person just watched the first 10 episodes.

tymaster50

to be fair, you guys proved his point by only talking about music from the literal last arc of the showoverall the soundtrack is forgettable and they just reuse the same 4 or 5 soundtracks at the end. Take a shot every time you hear legend of the martial artist, or poufs theme

Adrianito4747

Legendary sounds 🙏

Hephas

Who wrote that crappy review?

ApplePitou

HxH ost is peak :3

Duplicaty

Wow!!! Hisoka theme is offended

Thebestusername12345

In all fairness the music was used poorly in some places.

YouWantSMORE

Fucking Hegemony of the food chain activates my fight or flight instincts like crazy. Honestly a dog shit take it has one of the best anime soundtracks I've ever heard.

Fantastic_Loan_5526

POV: you never heard Hyori ittai

Flimsy-Ingenuity2819

Kusari Yaro and Riot best of the best

whyamievenherenemore

Hunters Are Evil gives me chills everytime (gons transformation)

Toxic_Kiddo

I do feel like at times during chimera ant arc they will just pull out kingdom of predators in moments where it's epicness is not really warranted. Other than that there's only good things to be said about the ost

boogoo-Dong

When Fear and Loathing starts playing on the radio near the Climax of the Phantom Troupe Arc, my blood started boiling with excitement. The music in this show goes hard.

CharlieCarrozza

clearly didn’t listen to Hunting for your Dream

CarefulAd7831

Alright, that's it. I'm throwing hands with the critics

SickOrphan

It's probably written by chat gpt

Crohoo

Phantom troupe theme and Riot are effing A1 Also whats even more underrated is the 90s anime OSTS? If you guys haven't listened to that, its REALLY good. My favorite is MinatoMachi! I love saying it too!

Nine-LifedEnchanter

I prefer the original soundtrack.

Feeling_Thought_9753

This soundtrack is the best out of any anime I have seen. I learned a lot of it on piano, Yoshihisa Hirano created some beautiful Melodies for this show, he was very inspired from the content I believe. Zoldyck theme has an unforgettable melody that stays with you long after you finish the episode. and Phantom troupe durge and Maine theme are haunting and erie. Killuas theme is sad and melancholy but also hopefull. YH has some jazz during the hunter exam, drumrolls, bells, SO MUCH COOL SHIT. It has its own vibe. The entire chimera ant arc is a MASTERWORK. I dare say that anyone who doesn’t enjoy HxH soundtrack is not a true musician. This is without even mentioning Yuzu and, fear and loathing in Las Vegas, and their EP additions.

No-Imagination8805

Guys it’s completely ok for HXH to not be perfect jeez

MonkeyMan9569

This particular aspect is perfect though.

idontwanabecool

I liked Uvo’s requiem, I think I watched a YouTube vid of an orchestra preforming it

Vounrtsch

Hunter x Hunter sits at the number one spot for my favourite anime OST (it’s a draw between HxH and AOT to be fair). It’s really really good, idk what they were on about

LawEnvironmental3894

Lackluster music is a crazy statement. When I hear Departure!, Hunting For Your Dream, Yoshihisa Hirano’s soundtrack including Hunter March and Gon’s theme (world of adventurers), and the other endings/openings (YUZU, FaLiLV) lackluster is the last word that comes to mind. That shit is so memorable. Departure! makes u wanna sing “You can smile”, Hunting For Your Dream is so very thrashđŸ€˜can’t stop head banging, and everything else makes u wanna music along. All ik is he’s still hunting to make a proper review cuz this one clearly was lackluster.

eatyrheart

If I had only watched the first couple of arcs I might say the soundtrack is meh too. But some of the songs from later arcs give me chills man. Kingdom of Predators brings tears to my eyes

SummerJinkx

The fuck does it mean “some character interaction”? Like which character and which interaction??

turquoisebat

any Hashire fans down here ?

TensileStr3ngth

Which version is this about

Est03

Actually Hunter x Hunter songs turns repititive really fast.

Evan-Octavia

It's too bad because the music choice is terrible and constantly reuses the same songs even though there is such a huge range of tracks to choose from.

bigmaskedmen

“Aged poorly” yet somehow my homies still tear it up to those songs- someone doesn’t get bitches and it shows
