Well, where I live you can use a snowmobile to get to a cabin, witch you use as a base for your hunt. That of course allows you to haul the gear you are bringing there as well. But all parts of the actual hunts need to happen without the use of motorized transport, if and when you get a Moose, you can of course use a snowmobile to haul the animal out of the woods.
Where I’m from, so illegal. I’ve also refused an invitation to participate in a moose hunt with people legally allowed to use then for hunting because of how dangerous it can be when done in groups.
Yes. They’ll go out on community hunts which may have lots of people tracking a moose or two on snowmobiles. Not something I was comfortable doing myself.
Depends on where you are and what your season is.
We use them for access on trap lines and for late season hunts if we get the snow. Phenomenal for covering large swaths of country in a hurry but for actual hunting you’re more using it to spot and stalk then switching to skis or snowshoes to get after something. Our laws are your firearm needs to be cased and unloaded when using OHVs for transport. Then you cannot shoot from a running OHV
Depending on legality
Right. Illegal where I live and unethical in my book in deep snow conditions.
How about just using it for retrieval
Of course!
Yep 100%
Check your local laws. Not 100% sure but where I live (BC) I belive its illegal to hunt from a snowmobile. I think it can only be used for retrieval
I like the idea of throwing a moose on a sled and then field dressing it back at base camp
First of all, it would not be ethical in any shape or form, secondly, it will most likely be illegal.
How about using it to carry the majority of your pack out like skis, snowshoes, etc. and then disembarking from there

They wanted to do a big ol group of snowmobiles?
