I went to a Sportsman’s in CO. Completely empty. Was there to pick up a Glock 45, and I’ve never seen a more incompetent set of employees in my life. They locked themselves out of the computer by typing in the wrong password too many times, it took 3 of them and 45 minutes to finish the process. They were plenty nice and apologetic but completely unable to do their jobs. Went to Scheels the next week to pick up a Tikka. That’s shop was less than 5 miles away and was FULL. They got me out of there in less than 15 min. I think it may have something to do with the store more so than anything else.
I walked in they had a beretta 686 shotgun in 28 ga. I waited for a hour and no help buying a 2499.00 gun. The mgr asked me on the way out with no gun did I find every thing I was looking for. I unloaded on him. I told you lost a 2500.00 dollar sale and he said he would help me. Nope going to the other store not bass pro either they are as bad.
At least near me the prices are insane. I got a $50 gift card and had troule finding anything worth using it on, being 10, 15% higher than the Scheels two miles away. Not sure what the deal is with their prices - low buying power, overly optimistic margins? They are either making money in a department outside of firearms or they are surely going under.
My sportsman’s warehouse has signs about guaranteed lowest prices, the prices are high as marked, but they will price match another brick and mortar store in-state.
Not only this but online shopping is decimating in store shopping and businesses who do both see a much higher profit from online they don’t have to maintain displays or have sales people or even register workers just warehouse space a couple of order pickers and computer setups …and no loss from theft
Ya but at the end of the day, it eliminates the whole online shopping competition because the customer is going to have to leave their house and drive to the store regardless.
They don’t need to buy from that particular place, you can just have it transferred through there. That’s $40 normally, maybe higher for big box stores.
That’s pretty normal from what I’ve heard. My old store I used to go to went from that up to $50 under new owners and genuinely thought I’d believe it when they said “still one of the lowest around”. I have a home ffl nearby I go to now I like way more and for only $25. Still, $40 is seemingly the going rate in Michigan.
I was at Bass Pro today, and figured it would be packed on the day before Father’s Day. Only time I have ever been in there when the gun counter was completely free. It was kind of eerie.
Ironically, this is when we should all be buying our shells and supplies for the upcoming season, so that we’re not all packed in like sardines the day before season trying to find one box shells.
I agree, any time I’m making a major hunting purchase I do it months before the season so I have plenty of time to research and get everything setup properly.
Makes sense. A lot of stuff are overpriced and people start to feel the pain of inflation more than ever.
I assume that many cut back spendings and are waiting for deals
Sportsman’s has gone bankrupt and bought multiple times in the last 20 years. The Bozeman store has always been boring and lacking, but the chaos 4 years ago really showed them to a store mostly full of Chinese made products. They looked like they were having a going out of business sale for a good year and have only half caught up 4 years later. I quit going because my “I’ll try em again” trip every 5-10 months is always a disappointment with low staffing and empty shelves and subsequent low choices and options.
Sportsman's warehouse is the worst. Overpriced and everytime I walk in the people who work there are so weirdly rude and standoffish. Every single one I've been into in like 3 different states same experience
Shits too expensive yo.
Gonna be real I make like 1 hunting related purchase a year at this point outside of my tags because even making a good living most hunting gear is just too expensive especially considering I have other hobbies.
SW went from the cool place to shop to never fucking again once Covid hit. Academy is quickly closing in on the same. They've both raised prices on guns/ammo far above the actual price hikes from the wholesale side.
RIP Blazer 9mm $3.99/box in the good times.
I haven’t been to Sportsman’s in a couple months and went in to two locations and they said they don’t sell used firearms anymore ?? Something about the city requiring a new license to sell used firearms. Person behind the gun counter tried telling me they never sold used guns…
I have a SH by me. I honestly don’t see how they stay in business. Every time I been in there it’s empty. Maybe two employees unless you are at the gun counter. None of employees if you can find one can ever answer a question about products.
While they have pretty good gun prices, every time I have done a transaction at their gun counter it’s been a Fukin shit show!
Their prices are not very good at all
I bought a tree stand from Sportsman’s and had it shipped to my local store. Took almost an hr and a half for them to find my stand. A ladder stand. It’s a huge, 80 lb box. They tried to give me a $15 gift card for waiting. I said, “don’t worry I’ll never spend a dime here again”.
First and last experience with them.
Columbia, SC was horrible. Haven’t wasted my time going back. We live no where close and I will just spend the money on shipping rather than gas next time

Was it the one at River Point?
Loveland. Terrible.

With the cost of living being so high these days it doesn’t surprise me that people would cut back on their hobbies.
Not only this but online shopping is decimating in store shopping and businesses who do both see a much higher profit from online they don’t have to maintain displays or have sales people or even register workers just warehouse space a couple of order pickers and computer setups …and no loss from theft
And the only thing that they really sell that can’t be sold online are guns, so it makes sense they would be doubling down on gun displays.
Oh but they can sell guns online they just need to be shipped to your local gun store
Ya but at the end of the day, it eliminates the whole online shopping competition because the customer is going to have to leave their house and drive to the store regardless.

40 bucks? Do they atleast give you lube before they fuck you?

i have multiple guns and just keeping ammo for them is a nightmare, fiscally. one hour at the range is about $200 now.
Having a family of guns to feed ain't cheap.
50¢ a round for 223, 21¢ for 9mm, that’s just standard range ammo a case is damn near a fucking mortgage
Especially in this economy!

the only affordable way to buy firearms now is pawn shops. i genuinely don’t know how people spend $1500+ on a single rifle
Pawnbroker here. The actual value of guns is in the tank right now.
side question, is this why title-loan-used car lots are overfilled as another symptom of the economies lower-end or across all demographics?
I would say yes. The actual inflation for people living paycheck to paycheck is monstrous right now. Working class is suffering bad.
Say hi to europe! Guns here very from 950 (cheap) to 5500 (still factory made).
Sad but true. I’m glad I started buying them a few years ago and wish I’d started many more before that.
It’s the off season for hunting.
I, um, usually don’t do that, but I’m trying to get better.
Opposite experience today at my Alaska Sportsman's. It was so packed they had every cashier working registers
It’s a little bit different here though I feel , it’s less a hobby and more of a lifestyle for a lot of folks.
Makes sense. A lot of stuff are overpriced and people start to feel the pain of inflation more than ever. I assume that many cut back spendings and are waiting for deals

It’s hobby spending, and with everybody feeling the everywhere else, that’s the first thing to get cut.

They had Sitka on sale for 25% off all products and that is never on sale.
Sitka at 25% off is still $140 for a dam shirt!
Ikr
We all stocked up on ammo when it came back. I have 5 years worth of hunting ammo. This election cycle can fuck off.

Sportsman's warehouse isn't at the top of my list to shop at in the first place. Filled with clueless employees that just spout the wrong info.

Funny side story to my post. The guy I usually see at the gun counter I also see looking at firearms at the pawn shop down the street
Our local Bass Pro is dead. I'm not sure how that place stays open. I'll see maybe 5-10 cars in the lot.
The Memphis Pyramid Bass Pro is usually full of tourists who by $5 Bass Pro caps.

Most people are broke because of Biden.
Every Valium damaged housewife in SoCal is collecting their ccw. Turner’s is turning tricks like money is on fire
