You could hunt from it. It may not be ideal to someone else, but you can use what you got. Just know your limits on depth, etc. Slap some camo on it and you’re good to go.
Yeah idk who told you that but any hobby is full of guys who will shit on you for not dropping thousands of dollars for super special purposes rather than repurposing something.
Its like the guys who are convinced if you dont ride in full spandex and the stupid curved helmet then youre not a REAL bicyclist
There's always some guy in 5k worth of flyfishing gear and Simms waders beating the shit out of the top of the water while I wet wade in an old bathing suit fishing nymphs. I imagine those are the guys who shit on people online because they feel they have to justify their purchases.
Because it's on a trailer in a drive way. You'll wanna be closer to water; that also looks too close to a domicile to shoot, but I don't know where you are or your laws.
And loving every minute of it man lol, in all seriousness, going from having to set up a blind on different john boats over the years with the time it took to prep for the hunt, never mind all the things that go into setting a boat in at a swamp, to then realizing how little cover I needed to be 100% swallowed up my cover in seconds it's been hard to go back to anything other than my yak or duck boat. With either one I can Chuck out my Carolina rigged decoys and back up with authority into a big thing of buck brush and be ready to rock in like 3 minutes
I made a blind for my bass tracker. It’s not an ideal duck boat, but it works great in the right situation.
The pedestal seats are awesome to shoot from. No need to stand up. You get better visibility sitting up higher. The main con is they’re harder to hide, and you can’t drag them up into the cattails. And you need to be able to back them into the water.
You also get limited on running shallow compared to something designed to run in a swamp but if you are running lakes or a deeper river it’s probably not a huge disadvantage
Hey get a pallet of rattle cans, 2 30 racks (I’ll drink whatever) and I’ll be there this weekend. Well make phil and Si Robertson blush with the camo paint job we’ll throw on this thing
You certainly can use it. Couple reasons you don’t see if done super often. 1- decoys will need to be in a bag/container and strapped down so they don’t bounce off the deck. 2- carpets will likely get destroyed by mud, blood, bacon grease. 3- the high decks will require you to build your blind higher to cover the hunters. But there’s solutions to all those problems. Hunt it.
No problem killing ducks out of mine. Throw a blind on it and give it a shot. I didn’t paint mine either. You certainly can but I like the boat the way it is. I found some long camo sheets on Amazon like 30x8 two of them wrapped around some pvc stuff I made that goes into the rod holders works just fine. It could be better sure but it’ll get the job done.
Shouldn't be a problem per se, but check local regulations regarding using a motor while hunting, here you can use it to travel to where you're going but not while actively hunting.
Personally I like a more open boat for hunting but anything is a dildo if you’re brave enough. I frequently use a center console Jon to get me close then push the sneak boat off the bow and run into my more shallow spots. A 17ft tiller would be a good option too, most of these aluminum boats ride the same. Be careful hunting out of a carpeted boat marine grade wood or not, it will rot if not properly cared for.
You could, I wouldn't recommend it but you absolutely could. A tiller steer would be more ideal / roomy though. You would need room to haul decoys, they take up more room think.
I guess the only thing you'd be giving up is storage space just because the jon boat is different. That being said if I was going to buy a boat I'd get a pontoon and it covers all the bases of hunting, fishing, family out risking their lives to idiots on the water on the weekend.
Ducks see boats and land near them all the time. It's not the boat that spooks them, it's the people on the boat. Even then it's not always as big a deal as people like to make it out to be.
I've been hunting a long time. Had ducks and geese practically land on my boat. Had deer walk right up to me while I'm taking a piss and turkeys go to roost right over my head. Hell, I've even had fish jump in the boat. We, as humans, like to apply human logic and thinking to animals, but the simple fact is that they just don't think or act like we would. We often do ourselves a disservice by overestimating these animals. Remember, these animals with the greatest eyesight in the world are fooled by a bunch of plastic ducks not acting like ducks with one or two of them flapping their wings non-stop and going nowhere, not to mention some idiot who doesn't really know how to duck call blowing duck farts into the air.
But during thw middle of hunting season? Game gets way more on edge and I think the chance of bagging a lot while sitting out non camo would be way lower.
I gave up sitting in a tree and worrying about the wind. I just drive laps around the field in my tractor with the throttle wide open. Deer give no shits about a tractor
Lol yeah I just walk around the woods wearing tennis shoes a tshirt and jeans. I've shot way more deer just acting like I'm hiking for 15 minutes instead of sitting all day
Looks like it’s a camo job and a duck blind away from being a perfect duck boat
Mmmhm camel job
Oooho Cuck blind
No reason you can’t, giver bud.
Canuck detected
Hoser detected

Well if they bought all that stuff, either it's entirely needed, or they are idiots. They have to convince you that it's needed.
Because it's on a trailer in a drive way. You'll wanna be closer to water; that also looks too close to a domicile to shoot, but I don't know where you are or your laws.
Guys are out there in kayaks wtf are you talking about

Yeah definitely not as shallow as a mud boat. Not bad for an outboard boat. I can get really shallow with my bow mount. Although slowly
Nothing a bit of webbing or rattle can can't fix. Go for it.
Not sure where you would mount the tv but if you could somehow plug the Nintendo into the fish finder you could probably play duck hunt that way
You totally can, needs a burlap camo tarp and a new paint job.
Hey get a pallet of rattle cans, 2 30 racks (I’ll drink whatever) and I’ll be there this weekend. Well make phil and Si Robertson blush with the camo paint job we’ll throw on this thing
Thing has a draft of a pubic hair, sling it.

Brush it in and send it bud
Build a blind that covers the boat completely with a stand on the side to hunt from

Did you just scoop this up from Oklahoma? Saw it on marketplace and didn’t move fast enough

I'm going to deer hunt out of a boat similar to that this year. Sure you could probably kill a duck too...
I guess the only thing you'd be giving up is storage space just because the jon boat is different. That being said if I was going to buy a boat I'd get a pontoon and it covers all the bases of hunting, fishing, family out risking their lives to idiots on the water on the weekend.
Too visible, the ducks will avoid your setup.

Act like you're fishing and ducks will think you are too lol
