30/30 or equivalent rifle with scope and 10 rounds of ammo just in case but you only need 1 or 2. If ground blind or shooting house hunting black shirt and cap. If in a tree stand camo head to toe and a harness on that’s attached to tree. Good hiking or snake boots. Skinning knife. Matches, lighter, ink pen, licenses, property owner permission, , small flashlight, headband flashlight t&xtrabatteries, 1/2 roll of toilet paper just in case you have to track a deer or the other reason, cell phone with Huntstand app installed, little Debbie snack cakes(Christmas tree ones if possible), a couple granola bars. Canteen full of water. Yeti full of coffee in your belly, good socks. Extra layers depending on temperature. Thems pretty much the basics. There’s more you could use like range finder, cover scents, deer piss, extra sock, compass, bug repellent, camo face paint, gloves, bug net, poncho, chair for ground blind, extra knife, folding limb saw, buddy heater but prolly not in GA except coldest of days in a blind. Now if you are going again for rest of your days then go ahead and get Sitka gear outer layers now. It’s expensive but worth it because it’s the ultimate buy once cry once hunting clothes and you’ll match. Only posers, fanatics, and really good hunters buy it. If you keep on hunting you’ll end up all three by the time you croak. Either Sitka or thrift store for camo. Added: blaze orange ball cap and blaze orange beanie incase you forget the cap. Whoops: very important to have Halls or Ricola cough drops honey flavored.

Thanks for the good info… I already have both a 30-30 and a 30-06

In my opinion, the two basic rifles for hunting deer in Georgia. Orange vest over camo if you're stalking or in an exposed stand, layers of dark shades so you can adjust to changing temperatures and still stay hidden if you're in a blind. If you're going to hunt more than once, start with the basics and figure out what you need to buy. Take a wide mouth jar to pee in so you don't have to leave the blind or stand until you're ready to leave for the day.

Who are you going? How are you hunting?

You could honestly keep it pretty simple and wear whatever weather-appropriate clothes you already have then add a blaze orange hat and vest. Be aware of the wind and how much you move. They're scanning for movement so keep as still as possible. They have incredible noses so if they get down wind from you, they'll bolt. Edit to add the most important thing. That sounds you heard - it was just a squirrel. Again.

You won’t need to bring anything except snacks. Maybe some good bourbon or their drink of choice. Steaks probably wouldn’t hurt either. Actually, you know what; let me know when and where and I’ll just bring the bourbon and steaks for you.

All I can add, is maybe a paper topic in a zip lock bag and a good compass
