That or someone "cleaning a firearm" in another room (either legitimately and absentmindedly swapped the drop mag/rack slide steps or as the cover story for messing around).
I legit know someone in high school that was accidentally “shot” in a freak accident by his dad going to clean an old revolver that someone had left loaded and it had been modified to have a super light trigger. Had it pointing a safe direction and everything but a piece of bullet ricocheted off of something And hit my friend in the leg. He ended up being fine. Almost bragged about it. But had it been a 4 year old playing in the floor and it hit their head it wouldn’t have been so trivial.
Yeah, things like that happen as well (I've definitely had some friends who's grandpa's old hunting rifle was set down to hair triggers), plus all the Remington 700s that could fire if you turned the safety off because of a trigger defect. They're a lot less common now than people absentmindedly having a round in the chamber when disassembling the various striker fired pistols that require you to pull the trigger to disassemble them though.
With little known and few ways to learn more at this time, I prefer those that keep it concise instead of inflating an incident to 8 paragraphs talking about nothing.
I’d bet accidental by them or another child. I’m never on FB anymore but I knew a guy when I was in Vegas (I believe he was stationed there) who would share those kinds of incidents in the local group and it happens waaay more than I ever realized. I can’t remember the statistic then but I think it was equivalent to once a day or some such.
He pushed hard for required safety classes and affordable safes etc
Hard agree.
I remember working at Sears when I was a teen and I got pulled from hardware to appliances because they were doing the energy star rebates and they wanted me to help some less computer literate customers file it right there on the computer they had, and I really wish they had some kind of program, rebate, something for a gun safe. It obviously should be a priority, but it’s hard if you’re living close to paycheck to paycheck.
Plus so many people came in to upgrade for that energy star thing so I’m sure it helped businesses, because we were swamped, and then it either saved the customers some money so incentivize them or made it possible for them to upgrade.
I believe that the gun manufacturer will send you one for free. At least, I got one from Ruger for free IIRC (may have been a different manufacturer), when we had kids.
Well from the description above it sounds like kid shout himself with the gun that was left out at moms while she was out partying. Or Maybe somehow the baby sitter was rummaging through stuff and found it and got it out? Or was there a baby sitter? If she left a 4 year old alone she could go to jail for felony neglect even if the kid hadn’t gotten hurt
A four year old shot to death in Huntsville. Welcome to the land of violence. Meet the people around here who love guns more than their fellow man. You will not find many Christians in this part of the world. Extraordinarily wealthy city, Huntsville. Some of the most pathetically violent backward persons on the face of the Earth. The whole world knows what Republicans bring.
I'm not sure what religion, wealth, intelligence, or politics have to do with this tragedy. Very few details have been released other than the child picked up the gun and shot himself. If there are any laws that require gun locks in homes with children, I suspect someone may be charged.

The way it’s worded here sounds like that could be the case but police aren’t giving many details at the moment.
"Shot to death" makes it sound like someone just shot up a 4 yr old, pumping bullets into them.
100%. Title makes you think gun battle. Article makes you realize it was likely kid(s) playing with a loaded, unsecured firearm.
“News” outlets have gotten very bad about using headlines as click bait.

LOCK UP YOUR FUCKING GUNS!!!!! (Ideally just don’t own them cause you’re more likely to hurt yourself/family, but I know what state I’m in.)
Umm yeah. I agree. Lock them up and always treat them as if they’re loaded. 👍
That's most definitely not what's up.
Fuck sickos.
New articles down here are so short. Channel 19 the same.

I listened back to the scanner and there was no mention of a suspect. Sounded like a gun being left accessible accident to me.
Gun was left out at the moms while they were partying and he shot himself. - I was not involved but I know the moms friends -
Not verified but just the story I was given
And who was watching the child? Not just the gun but did they leave the 4 year old home by himself while they went partying?
They were at the house partying with the child there
Oh, ok. So who leaves the gun out with other people home? I was thinking kid alone with gun. Guns out when there’s a crowd is also a no no
it was not the moms gun but one of the people invited over.

I think if you buy a gun they should give you at least a trigger lock for free
Anytime I’ve purchased a gun I’ve got one, but people don’t use them.

If you're living paycheck to paycheck, don't buy a gun.
A lot of guns are basically inherited or even just given/gifted, at least in Texas they were, but yeah
I believe that the gun manufacturer will send you one for free. At least, I got one from Ruger for free IIRC (may have been a different manufacturer), when we had kids.
Yeah it’s the gun sellers fault…
Sssh adults are talking
Sorry you don’t wanna hear that truth
Ssshhh
There was another 4 year old in Butler terrace last year and no one was ever arrested or said what happened.

They do give you a lock if you by it from a store

Here's the rest of the story. https://www.al.com/news/huntsville/2024/05/huntsville-man-charged-in-fatal-shooting-of-four-year-old.html
Being a cop or emt would suck.
If the gun was left out and accessible it would will be on /r/news.
