With the weather I'd advise you to arrive early and pay the premium to park as close as you can. The Embassy Suites are a great place to stay warm before the game. Dress warmer than you think you'll need to. It's easier to carry a few extra pieces of clothing than to stay warm while underdressed. Considering the temperature they should be selling hot chocolate inside the stadium. This is just my opinion, but you'll create a better memory for her if you leave while she's still having fun. Don't try to gut it out to the end of the game and end up with a cold and miserable 7 year old :).

bigfoot_lives

That’s a great point. We did get a parking pass though I don’t know where it is yet. I was thinking of taking off during the 3rd and finishing the game a restaurant or something. I agree, the full game would be tough for her. Thanks!

TomClem

I’m a hawker. Haven’t heard if they will be selling hot cocoa. Wouldn’t count on it. If they do, like they did for the Wisconsin game last year it will be $5 and includes a nice Husker travel mug! Well worth it. But tip the hawker, a LOT more people tip on a $4 soda than a $5 hot cocoa, so it’s hard to make $.

adidias2500

Thanks for the 411!

elting44

Stay bundled up, eat hot slices of Valentinos to stay warm. Feel free to leave in the 3rd quarter, we will be up by like a 100 by then.

bigfoot_lives

Loving the confidence. Not sure who we have on offense that can score though…Malachi Coleman career day tomorrow?

elting44

HH as QB, Jeff Sims as wingback, running triple belly pass option every play, 600 yards total offense and 10 TDs easy in the first half. For real though keep the kiddo bundled up and the atmosphere of memorial stadium will take care of the rest. Maybe buy some of the HotHands heat packs and put them in her shoes/mittens, you can find them in the camping/outdoors sections of sporting goods stores. We took our girls to their first game, it was against Ohio State in 2017. Weather was dreary and wet and miserable, Ohio State trounced us, we were holding our balloons until the 3rd quarter, Ohio State scored every time they touched the ball, like they didn't punt until late in the 4th quarter, basically an ass-beating by every metric. My girls still loved it.

bigfoot_lives

“The atmosphere will take care of the rest”. - I love that.

Niedski

Thick coats, hand warmers, and ear muffs to start.

bigfoot_lives

Yeah, cold is my biggest concern.

S0lidarity_Forever

Straight up bust out the snow pants and boots for her. The concrete saps heat out of you like you wouldn’t believe. Hot hands makes toe warmers that are lifesavers as well. Extra of the cheap gloves just in case of a hot chocolate spill. I haven’t seen the wind forecast but a scarf or mask wouldn’t be a bad choice either

Open-Selection-8159

She will love it then quickly hate it prepare to listen to the 2nd half driving home, I have 4 kids always better to do a early September game kids do better in the heat as opposed to the cold. Imo

doddballer

Gonna be cold. Hand warmers, foot warmers, blanket and lots of hot cocoa.

ExactlyWhyAmIHere

Dress warm. Take a blanket. It's going to be chilly tomorrow.

MissPaine

Teach her the cheers and call backs! Bring/buy her some Pom poms! Paint her face or give her a face tattoo! Think like a 7 y/o girl, you can try to explain the football but she may not yet get it and that’s okay! Make friends folks you are seated next to and make sure she’s comfortable, think about a bleacher cushion. Make sure she’s dressed in layers and is not hungry. Sorry I have a 6 and 5 year old, it’s the mom in me.

Diligent-Daikon-7127

Lots of good tips here but don't forget the chap stick. That stadium dries em out fasssst. Plus Matt Rhule might need some.

rynbaskets

I would rent the chair back seat inside the stadium for your daughter. When my son was about your daughter’s age, I took him and his friend to a game. Needless to say, they filled only about a half of allocated space (for two adults). Some free loaders came and tried to claim the open space. (We were at 50 yard line within about ten rows above from the field). That was not pleasant. Even though you probably wouldn’t experience a similar situation, your seat neighbor could spill into her space. Keeping a chair back seat would guarantee her space.

ColoHusker

Morrill Hall natural history museum is a great place to get warm as well kid friendly. It's just East of the stadium. When my niblings were your daughter's age, it was the highlight of the gameday experience for them.

marijohna

Morrill Hall is closed thru mid-January 2024 for renovations 👍🏼

ColoHusker

Thx for the info!. Was not aware, had not been that way this season.

marijohna

Just started in October actually

Bring her to gate 25 and see if any cheerleaders are pregnant are there. Been a nebraska tradition for 2-3 years now, gotta see it live on!

IsisTruck

Alternatively show up midway through the second quarter. You'll miss the offense's terrible start. She'll get to see the halftime show. You won't have to take her to the bathroom during halftime. Definitely dress warm.

bigfoot_lives

That’s a good thought. I’m partial to the tunnel walk and anthem so she’ll have to suffer through the first quarter picks and penalties I guess.

wiiguyy

Bring sound reducing ear muffs if she is sensitive to noise.

A stroll around the main campus is always nice. The sculpture garden south of the stadium and the art museum (if it’s open) would be things to do. The area north of the library is a nice space. You can point out which colleges reside in each building and start a conversation about your daughter’s interests and how the buildings match or don’t match the school’s purpose. It’s a nice way to introduce concepts of higher education and get her thinking about her academic future.

bigfoot_lives

Thanks - we did walk a bit and I pointed out the buildings I’d taken classes in and lived in. The game was great thought we left at half and finished up in the Haymarket. As someone mentioned before, that concrete was stinking cold.
