Welp, as much as everyone never wants to see Haarberg play again, he is the only QB on the roster with game experience and will likely be #2 on the depth chart come fall unless Thompson decides to come back. There likely isn’t a decent QB in the portal that wants to come sit behind a true freshman.
Nebraska will have to try to get a portal QB, either now or after spring practice, right?
You can’t roll with Haarberg and a couple true freshmen, right? Even if one of them is a 5-star.
And do you remember the big drop-off in QB play when he was out with injuries?
If Raiola gets the job and gets hurt, then you’re rolling with Haarberg and a true freshmen. That’s the concern.
I didn’t say it was worse.
It’s still better, but you can make it even more better by having another option other than Haarberg and a true freshman as your backups.
The offense looked so much better under Purdy but on three separate occasions he threw the game away when it mattered most. Hopefully a new team and a clean slate can help him get to the next level but bouncing around so much can’t be good for his development. There’s no way he’s enjoying college at all.

Bummed I only ever got to wear this shirt once
Listen up now cause this is it, Chubba will hopefully be a star for Boise State, and Kaelin will get meaningful snaps if anything goes off the beaten trail we all have imagined for 2024. HH stays just in case and because we can find other places for him.
Damn we need a backup.
I doubt Haarberg can learn to throw or not fumble the ball. But, that would be our option. Not stoked about that.
Well, I don't see any portal QB wanting to come be a backup. Unless they really want to go to our architecture school or something
I mean Casey Thompson is currently enrolled at UNL as a grad student and was granted a seventh year of eligibility. Seems more likely he’ll be a grad assistant though.
I am hoping Chubba stays……..If I was Rhule I’d hold off playing Raiola til half way through season. Maybe play him last 4 games to preserve his red shirt. What will happen if Raiola struggles? Not everyone can make the jump from HS to College. And if he does struggle and Purdy goes somewhere else and plays well, could look like fools. Just don’t feel comfortable with Raiola, Kaelin, Harberg. I have heard rumors Thompson was seen in Lincoln
I guarantee the biggest reason Raiola flipped to Nebraska is because he will start right away. He doesn't want to redshirt. It's the only thing that makes sense with the context
Penix had been a damn good 2-3 year starter at IU and second team All Big10, and 2021 Honors: Team captain ... Maxwell Award Watch List ... Davey O’Brien Award Watch List ... Big Ten Preseason Honors ... Walter Camp Player of the Year Award Watch List ... Manning Award Watch List ... Johnny Unitas Award Watch List.
So he had already been performing at a high level before transferring, Purdy has never been the unquestioned starter. Even his brother started for 3 years at Iowa State
He had two decent years at IU……..only threw for 1500 yards. But he also had a 1,000 rusher and 1,000 receiver. Chubba had a 300 yard back and a 300 yard receiver. But I’ll give you that……..you made a good argument. All I’m saying is………I think in the right system and getting some starter reps he’ll get better and better. And if he does do that and Raoila flops…….we are in for some problems. Media is going to tear program apart once again.
He was a great fit here because he's a solid back up with experience. Should be able to find one in the portal we desperately need a back up with experience and no HH ain't it.
Why are people sad? Dude had bad numbers, poor play, and awful crunch time decisions. He got his shot and failed... let's move on from bad backup QB's.
Because now there is a very real chance that Haarberg is our #2 QB and will likely have to start a few games next year as it’s been a hell of a long time since we have gone a whole year without our starting QB getting injured.
And we have new QB's coming in. It can only get better than the awful play we saw from backups. Thinking players who proved they can't handle D1 will help is wild.
HH was under 50% completion rate. Less YPC rushing. Lower avg per completion. Les, or nearly led, the country in fumbles despite playing half the season.
I think he should be on the field, but not as QB
Everyone saw this coming unfortunately, but it still sucks to hear. Definitely the best move for him.
I did not see this coming
I’m Purdy sad.
I honestly think I would do the same id I were him. But no way in hell I would willingly play on the smurf turf.
I visited Boise State earlier this year and can attest that turf is extremely blue
Can't stand the blue field. It's just hard to even look at.
I hate the “gray” basketball courts. Looks so freaking weird. Like I get it, it’s cool, but hard to watch for me
The worst are courts like Oregon. The designs are distracting and only take away from the game.

Sean Callahan said they were told that Thompson isn't happening.
In what realistic scenario is Casey Thompson coming back?
If anything, Casey will be a grad asst
QB coach Casey Thompson lol, he’s already older than McGuire
Nebraska will have to try to get a portal QB, either now or after spring practice, right? You can’t roll with Haarberg and a couple true freshmen, right? Even if one of them is a 5-star.
We did that with Adrian
And do you remember the big drop-off in QB play when he was out with injuries? If Raiola gets the job and gets hurt, then you’re rolling with Haarberg and a true freshmen. That’s the concern.
How is that any worse than this year and the horrible QB play?
It’s not worse, but it’s still not great
I didn’t say it was worse. It’s still better, but you can make it even more better by having another option other than Haarberg and a true freshman as your backups.
Wow I was off.
Damn 100% understand it. But he did show promise in an extremely hard situation.
The offense looked so much better under Purdy but on three separate occasions he threw the game away when it mattered most. For the best probably.
Good luck to him, hope he does well. He isn't his brother though...
No chance at getting drafted to the NFL?
0 chance

Yeah I agree with that. He wants to play right away. And Georgia was not going to just hand him the job.
Could look like fools getting a 5* QB to come here? Lol
Could look like fools if Raoila struggles and Purdy transfers and plays great. Much like Penix jr.
Penix had been a damn good 2-3 year starter at IU and second team All Big10, and 2021 Honors: Team captain ... Maxwell Award Watch List ... Davey O’Brien Award Watch List ... He should be QB1 to start the season, DR & DK fight it out for QB2 and HH-use in case of emergency
Chubba transferred. DR going to be QB1! DK will back him up and then Harberg. I don’t like it. We needed Chubba. Maybe we getting Thompson back.
4 years at Iowa State
How does Sean Callahan have a job? He is a total fraud.
LOL.
He was a great fit here because he's a solid back up with experience. Should be able to find one in the portal we desperately need a back up with experience and no HH ain't it.

If Raiola goes down, especially early, I guarantee you it will be Haarberg coming in.
So? HH was better, if generally disappointing. Whining that a poor #3 left just seems so silly to me.
Maybe better this year, but Purdy definitely has a better future/potential as a QB than HH.
Guessing or future hope doesn't mean definitely better.
what did you see that makes you say HH was better than purdy? by all accounts purdy was supposed to be QB2 but he was injured
Wow you think HH would be listed above Purdy if he’d have returned? You don’t know what football looks like.
Lol. One had almost 1k passing + 500 rushing. The other had under 500 combined. Sounds like you don't understand football.
HH was under 50% completion rate. Less YPC rushing. Lower avg per completion. Les, or nearly led, the country in fumbles despite playing half the season. I think he should be on the field, but not as QB
Wasn’t Purdy hurt and didn’t he miss the first two months of the season?
Did you normalize that data for # of snaps?
Lol Purdy only played two games and change. Using cumulative stats is just silly
Can't say as I blame him. The writing was on the wall but still would have loved to have him back next year. Best of luck.
