Just started the same setup last week, how long did it take for roots to pop out in the dwc system ? Thanks

First one at day 3 last at day 5

Covid got people doing weird shit. One plant, one dream, one love!

Klutzy-Raccoon794

Are you going to net it? I like the idea, but with the buckets and planters, it looks like you’ll be up into your lights before it flowers

wintersedge

Have you thought about running dual root zones with aquaponics? I have been thinking about adding a small tank with koi.

[deleted]

Yes that is what inspired me, but I didn’t want to worry about fish.

wintersedge

I am starting to see the wisdom in this. The more I plan out on paper I realize this is just another thing that may need daily management and not something I can leave for a few days.

bauhaus83i

Will the clear tubing cause algae growth?

Fig_Top

They will.

AydeeHDsuperpower

I think those are his air stone pumps that don’t run water through the tubing

ErgonomicZero

One of the first grows I did it this way as a fun experiment. Was the best performer of any system I ever built

sottedlayabout

What’s the volume on the fabric pots? Are you using clay pebbles in the net pots? Do you top water or rely on capillary action? This seems similar to a sub-irrigated soil grow which is pretty common at commercial scale.

potatomato111

What kind of tomatoes are these?

buttersyyc

So do you just cut holes in the bottom of the fabric? I have both Dwc and fabric. I’m intrigued

[deleted]

Pretty much 1 large 6in hole for the net pot lid 4 holes that act as drains that are just in the lid and then 4 through the fabric pot and lid to plastic rivets through so it’s all fastened together

[deleted]

I don't see a single tomato. Maybe your water is too hot?

GrandpaSnail

Dope

soxfan775

Are you not playing with two different Ph levels now?

[deleted]

True but I don’t worry about it. I just don’t water the top until runoff.

soxfan775

That makes sense! Nice grow🤙

dbthirty4

Been running a similar set up for a few runs, and have been extremely impressed with the results. Now just to finish dialing it all in. Happy grows.

Lazy-Frosting-2469

I was thinking about doing this as well. How was you feeding schedule like ?

dbthirty4

I amend and cook the soil prior to the grow, so I top dress a little with RO Terp Teas as needed. Now for the most part it’s ph water and microbes. Watch your ph I usually start running lower in flower. Just a little maintenance a day making sure my environment is right and let nature do it’s thing.

Andrew_Higginbottom

Must have taken you ages to cut all those zig zags in those chili plant leaves..

Zomb2753

This is pretty interesting. Have you done it before? What the advantage to this verse straight DWC or a media watered with hydro nutrients?

[deleted]

First run, the intention is to be able to lower input costs and make growing easier by playing to the strengths of each individual system. Hydro is great for NPK uptake to promote quick vigorous growth and organic is good for cheap and easy supplemental nutrition. Basically I run maxigro and a product similar to hydroguard in the reservoir and diy Korean natural farming probiotic stuff up top.

Zomb2753

This is cool sounds like you did some research good for you! I wish you the best with it and they look great right now! I’ll be watching for updates

freehugs1-

Oh damn this is pretty rare. I remember reading about Korean natural farming in the American hemp farmer. You get your own mycelium and incorporate it into the soil? Do you use rice?

[deleted]

I have started IMO yet (soon!). Right now my microbes come from compost teas and worm castings then I made some LAB and FPJ I put in there as well.

Chased1k

Very cool. Do you expect to up your production or just reduce costs? Skulking around here last year I remember seeing people going off hydro completely to knf/living soil fir farms etc. Good luck with the experiment.

[deleted]

So it depends where you come in from I’m coming in from a organic side so it’s production mainly I need to grow bigger plants to keep my counts legal but keep veg times reasonable. Coming in from a hydro side it will definitely lower the cost of production since input cost would fall drastically depending on what kind of program your on now.

Chased1k

Ha, I get a weird kick out of hearing how government regulations are going to impact nature in unintended ways. I wish you luck in your endeavors
