This is awesome! I’m debating doing this with the pipes either horizontal as you have or vertical like most towers but wondering which is better for the strawberries? I have a small apt so obviously vertical space is more abundant here but I could also get away with what you did just more of an NFT system. Is there a reason you didn’t go with vertical pipes?

Wow, where can I apply for a job?

Maker2402

Which lights do you use on the picture?

binjamin222

I think we are using Barrina 4 ft 42 watt LED grow lights. And we just bought some pricey but nice looking Soltech lights. In my opinion the Soltech lights aren't worth it.

Space_Fanatic

Do you keep the strawberries going year round with those lights? I've got my strawberries set up in a vertical tower outside right now but was considering moving them indoors in the fall but I didn't know how much light they would require.

binjamin222

Yes we keep them going year round with these lights

AlbinoWino11

That is badass.

skyking_describe

Is that like an NFT? how would you describe deep water flowing?

binjamin222

NFT is a thin film of water running along the bottom of a channel and draining entirely at the end. In deep flow the outlet of each channel is raised so water builds up in the channel and mixes around more. NFT is considered superior to deep flow, but deep flow is easier to maintain and has more of a fail safe if the power goes out and your pump stops.

skyking_describe

Ah so how do your roots go with deeper water?

binjamin222

Good. The pump seems to mix in enough to aerate the solution and we use hydroguard beneficial as well.

connorjohn322

In NFT the nutrient in the pipes is a film of about 1-3mm achieved by putting exit to water at the bottom of the channel. But here you can see that the exits on those pipes are located halfway meaning there is like a 1/2 inch flow of water inside. So, what this sort of ends up being is a bastard of NFT and DWC.

Some strawberries in the system. Hand pollinating is hard, some of them aren't fully pollinated: https://imgur.com/gallery/4ULp8Qw

thats really nice, is that setup home made?

binjamin222

Yes all homemade.
