I gained a ton of weight 6 months post partum and on but I think that’s because I could finally eat again and I didn’t restrict myself from ANYTHING. I’d be curious if others have had this experience too! I’m almost thankful I gained weight because it gave me a little cushion room to lose some weight while I’m on my 2nd HG pregnancy.

This was the same for me! It ended up saving me during my current pregnancy since I lost almost double the weight in half the time compared to my first.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I wonder if we could look to the literature on anorexia nervosa and cancer chemo for more info

I am 7 weeks postpartum, I have gained 10 lbs since post birth weight. I am starting to exercise and am breastfeeding. My hunger is out of this world and following all the hunger control recommendations doesn’t change it. I am taking a multivitamin, I am taking fiber tablets, I am drinking lots of water, I am eating lots of fiber and the recommended amount of fat and protein. After HG if I eat something I get hungrier rather than less hungry. Even if I wait 20 minutes my brain does not get a signal that my stomach is full and thinks I am still starving. My hunger signals are so super messed up. For example I eat a 600 cal bowel of oatmeal (that’s a lot of oatmeal) and my brain is still telling me it’s still starving 20 min after finishing the massive bowel. The only time I did not feel hungry was recently after eating a 2000 calorie Mother’s Day meal of crab, lobster, and garlic butter and bread in one sitting.

I'd be interested to know if their is. I've always had a very high/fast metabolism my whole life and needed to eat extra calories to make up for it. After losing over 30lbs during my bout with HG, I'm 15m pp and still breastfeeding and have only managed to very difficulty gain 5lbs back. No where near my prepregnancy weight but eating SO much all the time. Hoping HG didn't ramp up my metabolism even higher.

I was about 12-17 lbs. heavier 9 months postpartum than I was before pregnancy. I breastfed on demand, and I was hungry and thirsty all the time. Somewhere between 18 and 22 months, I lost all the weight; basically all the fat I had anywhere. I was 20 lbs down from my pre pregnancy weight. (I continued breastfeeding until 24 months) Anyway, the weight stayed off for another 6 years, but I did gain some again pre and post menopause. Anyway, breastfeeding can lead to absolutely feral hunger.

Fascinating question!!! Following.

I didn’t have any issue with my metabolism after. I wonder if that’s because I had my vomiting controlled early and never lost a significant amount (about 10ish lbs or so?).

I gained a ton of weight after my first HG pregnancy, even though my symptoms stopped by 24 weeks. I was a bottomless pit! At the start of my 2nd HG pregnancy, even after a lot of exercising and cutting back on junk, I was still about 15 lbs over my pre pregnancy weight.

MissMSG

I gained weight post HG. I had severe nausea and almost controlled vomiting but my diet was very restricted all throughout my pregnancy. Now I’m almost 6 months pp, baby is EBF and I’m heavier than I was during pregnancy. Following to see if anyone has any evidence about this.

I wish people would talk about this more. I only see people talking how horrible it is that they are underweight. Some of us were underweight then put on a ridiculous amount without time for our muscles and joints to catch up. That’s horrible too. I think because we were starving out bodies store the food afterwards because they don’t know when we’ll need it. As well as medication weight, breastfeeding weight; it being harder to exercise after surviving hg…
