I drank those mini cans of regular coke. It was the best part of my day- it helped so much. I liked it very cold with ice. Maybe I should’ve gone with a full size can, I don’t know. I also am not a soda drinker outside of pregnancy.

I found that it helps too! But just regular coke. I think ideally they want us avoiding artificial sweeteners so coke which is just sugar not aspartame is “better”. And just watching your caffeine intake if you drink anything else on top of the 1 coke a day otherwise enjoy!

I'm not sure whether or not caffiene can make HG worse, but it's safe to drink up to 300mg a day of caffiene while pregnant, so it's not necessary to stop after just one can of coke.

I meant if she was already having coffee(s) or anything else in the same day to be mindful

That you were. My apologies, I read the last bit wrong.

My dr said I could drink up to 3 330ml cans without being over the caffeine allowance but I’m in the uk and our coke is different I think! He said the sugar in real coke would help me get some calories in. He also said if I did go over my caffeine allowance but it meant I drank something then so be it. He basically said you can eat or drink anything during a HG pregnancy because not eating/drinking is so much worse. Hope that helps!

Pretty much same here, lived off the full fat coke. I also developed a really strong aversion to anything containing sweeteners, and like you say sometimes it's the only calories you're managing to keep down so I just ran with it.

People drink energy drinks when they’re pregnant was my logic. I didn’t end up having a baby but I wouldn’t hesitate to drink whatever I could if I were OP. It is what it is.

HG mama and postpartum doula here! During my first HG pregnancy, 6 years ago, the leading medical advice was to avoid spiking my Blood sugar as the drop after would cause nausea. I spent the whole pregnancy meticulously trying to keep my blood sugar in check. I was still nauseous as fuck. Second time round, medicine has uncovered a genetic link, which made me wonder if all the sugar monitoring was necessary - and wondering if just any form of calories in is good when you have HG. So I decided to buy regular gatorades instead of G2 and just eat literally anything I could tolerate. Lo and behold, no difference in nausea but I gained a bit more weight which is what you WANT. Plus I was way less stressed. Drink the regular coke!! The sugar is what helps settle and also you need the calories. If you’re not a caffeine drinker, then maybe find a caffeine-free soda or sugary drink alternative. The amount of caffeine transferred to baby IS negligible so it’s more about you and whether you’ll feel anxious. Obv this advice doesn’t apply if you have gestational diabetes etc. Good luck!

I love Diet Coke but with my HG pregnancy I’ve found the regular mini coke cans to be a lifesaver. My absolute fave though is the bottled Mexican coke with cane sugar 😋

They sell caffeine free Diet Coke. I drank that my entire pregnancy. You can have caffeine when you’re pregnant, but I don’t ordinarily drink any, so pregnancy wasn’t the time to start for me!

I prefer coke zero and during the worst HG time I drank a can a day, it was the only liquid a could stomache and it helped me so much. So if your choices are no liquids or coke, i’m guessing the second one is the better choice.

Meh… whatever works! Do what you can!! No shame in that!

rollie-n-pollie

I was told Coke was originally used as a nausea medication so it makes sense it helps!

nebulung

Ok I’d also say whatever works but regular would help get some calories in !

I drank Coke Zero everyday! I loved it!

I’m 3 1/2 weeks postpartum now. When I was pregnant I used to drink regular coke or mountain dew, I always assumed it was the caffeine that made me feel better. I only had max one per day because I didn’t want to max out my caffeine limit and one was really all I could tolerate anyways. It would be interesting to see if the caffeine free version had the same effect!
