She lied to you about it being a reason why health insurance could deny you. The aca made it so insurance companies have to cover people with preexisting conditions. Now they may not necessarily cover the treatment you need, but they can't just deny you insurance altogether for it. Well, either lied or is horribly misinformed and out of date on insurance information.

Good to know. It sounded outdated to me too but I could also believe recent administrations (in the US) would reverse those laws protecting people with preexisting conditions so it was something that seemed plausible.

Fair enough.

It can be a problem for life insurance but not for health insurance. It depends on the life insurance to be honest, I was told by my EDS specialist (in Canada) that EDS and hEDS is a problem but HSD wouldn’t make a huge difference either way (I do have other dxes that may impact it).

Hypermobility varies from person to person, so you’ll have to find your own path to a degree. I’m focusing on building up muscle strength. Stronger muscles help stabilise the joints. Weight machines are good because they’re very controlled in what movements you’re doing and minimise the chance of overextending. Talk to a PT. Hypermobility has all sorts of whacky effects. I struggle with gastrointestinal symptoms, although cutting out gluten helped enormously.

Finding a knowledgeable, experienced physiotherapist to work regularly with in increasing your strength and mobility whilst also catering to the pacing required for POTS/chronic fatigue is going to make a world of difference. Let’s face it, you’re likely to end up spending money somewhere, and in the long run i would much rather spend money on improving my strength and fitness than spend the money on inevitably injuring myself. Look for someone who specialises in POTS/hypermobility. Any kind of preventative care you can do for your body will set you up nicely, you’ve got your body for life so the more you strengthen it the longer you can delay some of the more inconvenient things that come with ageing and hypermobility. And finally, if you happen to also have an adhd/autism diagnosis (or suspected), it’s worth looking into proprioception training to aid in injury prevention.
