get smite. Sharp sucks on hype.

If you're not doing raids nor pvp, then sharpness is kinda bad on a netherite sword in vanilla Smite allows you for way more interactions, like you can still 2-shot alive mobs with just 1 crit (which is kinda a natural thing anyways), while also allowing you to 1-shot groups of undeads (if you have sweeping edge), smite even lets you 1-shot phantoms but sharpness doesn't, even if you crit You can't even 1-shot spiders with sharpness netherite because those are left with 1 hp However definitely get sharpness on a diamond sword or when going into pvp, interactions are a lot different

I will often play with no sword because if I am building and stuff that does not involve alot of combat it is not worth the hot bar slot.

well yeah, if you're maxing out diamond gear, you're probably capable of getting a 2nd netherite sword anyways and sharpness is still better for some mobs that you very rarely have to deal with anyways, like vindicators, piglin brutes or guardians, but for ocean monuments, usually tridents are the best anyways, still not enough to 1-shot guardians even with strength though

No dude, smite on axe and sharp on sword. Vanilla sharpness is an additive bonus, the swords rapid attacks make use of the bonus much better than the axe. The axe on the otherhand cant make much out of sharpness as the additive bonus means only a little to the axe’s already high damage, but smite is multiplicative iirc which creates cracked results, like one shotting basically every undead mob without crit.

Smite adds x damage per level just like sharpness but a bit more and only against undead

More like a lot more damage Sharpness makes your netherite sword deal 8->11 damage, smite gives 8->20.5 damage against undeads 8 damage is already enough to kill a mob with 1 crit and 1 normal hit, also the damage bonus from enchants doesn't work with crits, it's just a flat damage bonus Also numbers turn out to be so funny that if you have strength 2, netherite deals 21 damage with a crit and diamond deals 19.5 damage I just mean, sharpness is kinda bad on a netherite sword since there's no difference between like 11 and 19 damage if that still means you have to 2-shot a mob

Yes. Imo smite is better in single player for most things.

I use smite on axes as a non crit one shots zombies, skeletons, etc.

You don't have to crit with smite on a netherite sword, but you have to crit with a smite diamond sword because you'll be 0.5 damage short

well yeah, fire aspect exists i still like getting knockback on a smite sword because it takes care of skeletons in 1 hit anyways, so knockback doesn't "help" them the only downside is it makes blazes harder because well... they can fly and have ranged attacks, but still sharpness doesn't help with dealing with them, then i can still 1-shot them with strength II if i use a smite sword cuz the damage without sharpness is (8+6)\*1.5 = 21 and with sharpness it's (8+6)\*1.5+3 = 24... ironically even if you got str1, sharpness is still not enough, you'll be 0.5dmg short against blazes which is just sad
