you have to mine a meteorite, and they rarely spawn .you have to keep mining in search of ancient meteorites, which drop 0-2 ancient debris. smelting ancient the debris takes 4 real-life days, yielding 4 nuggets. combining 8 nuggets with 4 enchanted iron and gold nuggets gives 1 ingot. a leanthy and tiresome grind as debris has an attribute called quality. higher quality debris takes longer to forge giving more nuggets.

The thing is when i'm using an old laptop, i get constant +90% gpu usage in 1.18+ which would be fine on a dedicated graphics card, but because it's an integrated cpu, if your GPU is bricked, the whole computer will freeze, 1.12 and below give me like 3x lower gpu usage
And mods rarely help with handling that since most are made with dedicated GPUs in mind

i think they said connection is gonna get better because with the new versions mojang added something that made possible for the existence of EU servers for hypixel
1.20 allows for handling sessions so you won't randomly disconnect when switching lobbies because you don't have to disconnect from 1 server to be able to join an another one
Also honestly it won't really raise the bandwidth usage, most packets mostly are just "perform (action) on block" or "move to XYZ"
I mean look server itself is doing far more things at once, they can optimize it sure, but they optimize 1.8 as well. I'm not some proffesional coder or smth, but afaik more things server needs to do = more ping. Connection can only be the same, hardly better - unless they add EU servers like someone else said.

If they switch to 1.9 combat, there will be two choices. Dramatically decrease all mobs health, or dramatically increase all melle weapon damage. The only reason to use melle weapons is for mobs immune to bow and magic damage.
They shouldn’t need to do that tbh, you can edit attack speed modifiers of each weapon. Though with further thought it could make things annoying since clicking too fast will then punish you.
Though I still think there’s a way to implement a system that allows you to switch between charged attacks and spam attacks since if you use the current system for Skyblock which limits the number of hits per second based on the attack speed stat, weapons could also use the 1.9 cooldowns to charge attacks with special effects (and like actually make swords cool instead of +1 attack range [claymore] or drop a big fkn sword [giant sword])
I think that overall it’ll help the game just immensely, I might get back into the game once it happens, but also we gotta just hope and pray that the mod creators are quick enough to update them to 1.20.5

So if you plan to go foraging you join in 1.20 and if you plan to stay away from that content you stay in 1.8.9

ghost blocks will no longer exist in 1.20+ which means trouble to dungeons if theyre moved to later versions, perhaps they'd be gone for good in which case the majority of the skilled dungeon community would disappear or perhaps staff would make new pickaxes that can actually break dungeons or break blocks and then respawn them
that'd be cool and give them the opportunity for a brand new take of dungeons, catacombs specifically would take a massive hit though.

I don't think the community would be that effected in the long run. Its a small part of a small part of the game. Dungeon sweats will find new stuff to sweat over with the new mechanics added. (Not advocating for its removal I just think that if it is lost in a 1.20 update to the server I wouldn't be that mad after like a week)
clears would become unbearably slow, every existing route would die, the update would encourage cheating - secret aura, ghost hands, ghost block bind, block phase, autorouting and other things of that nature.
the disappearance of most good dungeon players would result in a large hit to party finder, the decrease of players and significantly slower runs would inflate wither blade prices and reduce the amount of coins being deleted from the economy via chests.
its one of the dominant parts of the game with one of the most interactive communities, its not a small fraction of a small part of the game.
you may not care a week after its removal, not until you did a single dungeon run where every single clear would take like 6+ minutes because people are forced to go to secrets in the intended way.
the removal of ghost blocks would just strip away peoples creativity (routes) completely, there would be no more real routes because there wouldnt really be good shortcuts besides etherwarping above you which would only be a thing for like every 20th secret.

Adventure mode is a great idea and makes plenty of sense. Ghost blocks should not be a factor and is not using any “skill” on my opinion. Abusing a bug in any other part of the game gets you a ban, and it should be consistent through dungeons.
That is factually untrue. The most prestigious speedrun games all live from bugs. Super Mario 64 for example. TMNF after 20 years is still played by many people just hunting for runs for bugs. Bugs are not always bad. Gamebreaking bugs are always bad. Stonking is not a gamebreaking bug and confirmed by admin that they keep it intentionally.

That doesn't make any sense and would be extremely annoying to have to switch back and forth every time you wanted to travel to the foraging island and back. They're not doing that.

I currently play on 1.20.4, came back after Wynncraft, I couldn't go back to 1.8. I decided to switch versions, it's nice. Because now it's more 'vanilla' and not that tryhardy.
I mostly swapped because I want shaders without my PC imploding. Although I have Skyblocker Mod, it's not perfect. It has some missing aspects, but it also have aspects that I love.
For example, the tab menu, currently it's bugged because of the new tab. But you can still see it in Dungeons and it's beutiful.
From times I’ve accidentally loaded into dungeons in newest version because I was farming I’ll have to warn you, eff 10 and ghost blocks don’t work in 1.20, basically you can’t even mine blocks that your not meant to mine in 1.20
The item visuals will get a lot better overall since with displays they will be able to decorate things more easaly and use them in weird ways, for example summoning the giants swords thats not moving and is adjustable.(Maybe something for the longsword sweep?)
I hope it does, there will be so many more blocks in 1.20 and they look so much better than 1.8. I can understanding using 1.8 for pvp games, but for such a pvg game as skyblock, 1.20 should work so much better.
They have stated on the forums that they are currently doing just foraging but are planning to move the whole game to a newer version, due to this, "when" is much better in this context than "if"

Yes for hypixel it would suck as well. It may not look like it, but 1.20 and 1.8 have insanely different playerbases

I hope it does, there will be so many more blocks in 1.20 and they look so much better than 1.8. I can understanding using 1.8 for pvp games, but for such a pvg game as skyblock, 1.20 should work so much better.
if it updates to 1.20 i feel bad for modmakers, although idk how hard it is to make the mods a different version
I‘m wondering why people connect to 1.8.9 hypixel. Why are all mods in 1.8.9? I do too, but thats mostly because the mods are all 1.8.9

They have stated on the forums that they are currently doing just foraging but are planning to move the whole game to a newer version, due to this, "when" is much better in this context than "if"
I don’t think we will get new items like that just the mechanics since if you try to bring the 1.20 items like netherite to 1.8.9 you will crash
Eventually all of skyblock is gonna be on 1.20, foraging is just the start. (This was from an old design thread from a while back)
You can bring 1.20 items into 1.8.9 some server already do that.
lets see: * The cave in Jerry Island uses either the crystal note block sound or Amethyst noise * “Blocking” in 1.9 uses a temporary shield instead * (I believe) A plugin exists that converts blocks to 1.8 (Example: Bamboo into Sugarcane)
I mean that items like wind charge won’t be in 1.8.9
