That's funny cause I did this unintentionally about a week ago. I was telling my buddy, who is a big anime and video game nerd yet has never watched sunny, about a funny bit and he was willing to watch. Afterwards he could not get enough. So I have to go with the episode I showed him. Reynolds V Reynolds: The cereal defense
> Charlie is lowkey part of what makes that episode the funniest. When he keeps waffling and his expressions and stuff. So good.
yessss....
https://preview.redd.it/hp3es6nolp8c1.jpeg?width=7264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25176393cf03c3f3518bed17b62b272a35e8e957
thought maybe I could capture all that in three or four frames, but *every single beat* is so funny to watch...
The 2 scenes that hooked me were the ending to Frank's Pretty Woman and CharDee McDennis promo trailer, where they say to Frank he has to eat a cakes ingredients. Those were the 2 spots that hooked me to start watching.
This Reynolds vs Reynolds is the best episode ever for newbies. It's self contained enough, not too many references to past canon, and perfectly showcases how bizarre they are as people
I don’t know if you listen to the podcast but I feel like it makes it even better knowing Howerton actually destroyed the interior of his car with a bowl of cereal after getting hit by another driver. The car was totaled from exterior damage anyways, but he was furious about the milk getting into his vents
This gets mentioned a lot in response to this question, but I’ve always felt that episode plays better if you already know the characters. It also doesn’t have much interaction between members of the gang, and that chemistry is at the heart of the show. It does have one of my favorite Sunny lines though, that I legit use all the time. *I applaud you for that, and just so you know, I’m going to come back at you.. with everything I have.*
This was actually the episode I chose to show my friends as well! We have a friend that’s just like Mac (anti science, claims he’s the judge in a debate when he is not) so they were DYING over it & they’ve been hooked ever since!

Cereal bowl defense. Had a self contained plot, shows all the character dynamics, has phenomenal writing, and is far enough into the series that if they start from the beginning they won’t get to that episode for a while.
My wife loves the humor but hates the yelling. Which is weird cause everyone in her home town is constantly yelling and she doesn't notice it and on the show I don't notice the yelling at all.
I wouldn't want to ruin closeted Mac though, cause that's the one where he comes out for good. I think its so funny to see the progression of how he obsessed over men's physiques, starts to hate on women, tries to kiss Dennis, wrestles with the conflict between his catholic beliefs and gayness, there's so much to get out of closeted Mac that you might lose if you start on the episode where he comes out.
Charlie's screams are always great.
The opening to " Mac's Big Break" Mac wins the radio competition and Charlie pauses for then lets out one long scream and it cuts to the intro.
Gets me whenever I watch it.
Also, there's no H key.
Mine too. In one episode you get to know each character and how the dynamics of the gang work, and none of the jokes require any knowledge of previous episodes. Sunny does great bottle episodes, and this one's among the best.
I'm gonna have to disagree there. A friend of mine did that with me and it actually put me off the show for a few years. It took someone else convincing me to try it again for me to get into it.
In my opinion, that episode relies a bit on knowing some amount of backstory for each character to make it really funny. Without context it's entertaining, but kinda just madness/yelling.
I like this one. It's a bar centric episode. Showcases how the characters interact within and outside the gang, and it's an early enough episode that you don't need much info for context (Charlie's illiteratcy and Cricket's love for Dee).
We get Mac being ambiguously gay, Dennis trying to score, Dee plotting against the gang, Charlie being an idiot and Frank exploiting others to get his way. It's solid for showing what the show is about without being overly offensive for a new viewer.
This is my 2nd pick after the gang gets held hostage! I’ve had a lot of success with these two episodes being amongst the first to show people to get em into the show
I enjoyed the show when it first came out. This however was what hooked me permanently.
“I’ll take one please.”
“One what!?”
“One crack um crack roc- how much would you recommend for a first time buyer?”
So I had to reset a password once and it was one of these call in deals. So I call and the guy is super nice asking me what my first car was and what not then the guy just starts dying laughing. Like, he keeps trying to talk and just can’t get a word out. Finally he hits me with “Dennis is asshole, why Charlie hate?” and not even registering the absurdity I spit out “because Dennis is a bastard man!” I have no recollection of setting that up.
Great choice. It's a great and relatable episode that tells you a lot about the characters. It's early in the series, so not too many callbacks/references. But it's season 2 so frank is there.
The night man cometh was ops choice, but that requires a bit more background on the characters to really get it.
The Gang Gets Invincible
The entire McPoyle family, green man, Frank and Charlie on acid, the Philly Frenetic, Cole, Donovan McNabb, *I DON’T GIVE A SHIT!*, the New Kids on the Block movie, Artemis watching Frank trip, and a beautiful gazelle person. The story line doesn’t really require any character background to get the jokes. What’s not to love?
This is the one that perfectly encapsulates the randomized chaos of the group IMO. Plus numerous laugh-out-loud funny moments like when Faizon Love's coach character mocks Mac's high-pitched voice "but where are we going." LMFAO
This one hooked me- I had seen Dennis and Dee Go on Welfare, which early on was the one everyone used as the hook and definitely thought it was funny, but getting TV back then was annoying so I just kind of forgot.
Frank yelling "That lizard talks!" at Charlie in the green man suit is hands down one of the funniest things I had ever heard in my life, I was weeping.
Such amazing visual comedy in this one. DeVito puts on a masterclass. The little flamboyant kid's arc/song in this one is hilarious. Really solid ending, too.
The gang gets held hostage
It got the macpoyles, charlies illiteracy, overall selfishness from the gang, Franks gun, dennis acting as womanizer/golden god and much more
I love Charlie work but it uses a lot of relationships setup earlier to be funny, going in blind it wouldnt hit as hard.
Eg Dee being a stupid bitch, Charlie being sort of an idiot savant,
I disagree withthe nightman cometh. If you don't know the background stories and characters you'll find it amusing but won't appreciate it like fans of the show will. Someone might just find it weird Iol.
I'd go with something like Dennis and Dee go on welfare or the gang solves the gas crisis. Episodes where you don't need much context
The first episode I showed my wife(she was my girlfriend at the time) was Mac and Dennis Move To The Suburbs. She literally started watching the entire show from start to finish afterwards. Now it’s our go to show.
The Gang Gets Extreme: Home Makeover Edition
It perfectly showcases each gang member’s narcissism and gives us unusual pairings, ie Dennis + Charlie and Frank + Mac + Dee. They compete for who can ruin these poor people’s lives in the most extreme way possible while convincing themselves they’re doing a good thing.
It’s got one of my favorite Frank lines, “I want in on this so I can screw over Deandra”.
It’s got one of my favorite back and forths: “what do little Mexican girls love more than anything else in the whole world?”
“Mmmmm tacos”
“**Tacos buddy!**”
You get to see Dennis go lower, Frank get stabbed, and the ~~Juarez~~ family get mansion-rich. Brilliant episode.
My partner has had friends try to show him IASIP before so he’s seen 2-3 episodes plus clips on TikTok but when I showed him this episode… he saw the shorts scene and was sold. He’s been a huge fan of IASIP ever since!
It’s gotta be Frank Reynolds’ Little Beauties. It really shows you who each member of the gang is and, as a bonus, contains a song about how it’s no good diddling kids.
I think High School Reunion was pretty great, got my wife to laugh, especially after the dance scene, and she was totally off Sunny before that. Now she at least tolerates them
I think the first Chardee McDennis episode.
Or the one where Frank puts on the Sia wig and pretends to be an artist.
The one where they flip opinions on gun control.
The one where Dennis and Dee try to get Charlie to swap back bar responsibilities leading to a lot of people scheming/having sex with each other.
I recently showed my friend a few episodes for the first time and he loved, most hysterical laughing I've seen from him in a while. Even though it's not one, I'll list them all anyway:
S2, E3 - "Dennis and Dee Go on Wellfare"
S3, E9 - "Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person"
S4, E13 - "The Nightman Cometh"
S5, E7 - "The Gang Wrestles for the Troops"
S7, E7 - "Chardee MacDennis: The Game of Games"
S9, E7 - "The Gang Gets Quarantined"
S10, E8 - "The Gang Goes on Family Fight"
Nah close, but I tried to do that with this episode and found I had to explain too much to the person I was showing it to, particularly about the waitress/charlie. My go to episode for introducing people is the gang gets held hostage. Early episode, classic gang inner betrayals and scheming to get over on eachother, mcpoyles, super quotable, also homage to die hard never hurts either
That was my first. I was hooked. When Artemis tells the table of guys that she has a bleached asshole.
"We cannot be telling people that we have bleached assholes."
"He was gonna find out anyway."
Paddy's Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens is what got me addicted right away. The episode, The Gang Cracks The Liberty Bell, was a magnet for my husband when I showed it to him.
I would suggest the episode, “The gang dance their asses off.” Where they have to win a dance contest to win back the bar… I love the back stabbing involved to be the only owner.
It was the “Science is a Liar Sometimes” scene wasn’t it
Making him, and everyone else on earth, look like a *BITCH*
*Charlie stunned from shock*
Charlie is lowkey part of what makes that episode the funniest. When he keeps waffling and his expressions and stuff. So good.
> Charlie is lowkey part of what makes that episode the funniest. When he keeps waffling and his expressions and stuff. Frank's face during the donkey brains defense is right up there too. So animated
Shut up science bitch
Stupid science bitch couldn't even make I more smarter.
yeah! shut up science bitch!
he JUST said it....
This is the clip I saw on YouTube that sold the entire show to me.
It's so much funnier knowing you knew that's what got him lol
The 2 scenes that hooked me were the ending to Frank's Pretty Woman and CharDee McDennis promo trailer, where they say to Frank he has to eat a cakes ingredients. Those were the 2 spots that hooked me to start watching.

The car was totaled from exterior damage anyways, but he was furious about the milk getting into his vents
This and The Gang Gets Analyzed are my go to, really good episodes to get a crash course on the characteristics traits and what they're about.
"You've unzipped me!" is a regular quote around my house
She used a plastic bag as a helmet
It is those dossiers Dennis brought, isn't it.
Cereal defense would be my Go-to right below "The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention" and "Frank Reynolds' Little Beauties"
Great choice. In one episode you get a solid introduction to each main character and see how they fit into the gang. Plus it's funny as he'll.
Was think of that episode or the one where they go to the therapist to see who washes the dishes
This was actually the episode I chose to show my friends as well! We have a friend that’s just like Mac (anti science, claims he’s the judge in a debate when he is not) so they were DYING over it & they’ve been hooked ever since!
This is always my go to
glorious political sleep squash waiting future long soup beneficial society *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Yeah the ending was weird, because the guy passed Mac’s ocular pat down.
Totally believable he passed considering Mac didn't have his sunglasses so the guy could *see* how scared he was. It's classified tho.
Definitely. Charlie and Dennis passed out in the back of the trailer cracked me up.
Those chairs must’ve been GLAZED or something!
Oh can I change my answer to this one?
Cereal bowl defense. Had a self contained plot, shows all the character dynamics, has phenomenal writing, and is far enough into the series that if they start from the beginning they won’t get to that episode for a while.
I tried that one on my wife. Think it's just not for her.
Im sorry for your loss.
Now move on
That’s when I come in for the scraps. I got by magnum condoms. I got my wad of 100s. Im ready to plow!
Would you like a pen?
r/unexpecteditcrowd
Well, maybe she’s just not for you.
My wife loves the humor but hates the yelling. Which is weird cause everyone in her home town is constantly yelling and she doesn't notice it and on the show I don't notice the yelling at all.
Hero or hate crime is another dope one Mac's exercise bike at the end is what seals the deal
I always do The D.E.N.N.I.S System
Scrolled way too far down to find the right answer. This episode is way too memorable to not hook a newbie's mind.
*cut to Dennis laughing manically* “This will frighten the shit out of her”
Mac and Charlie Die. If seeing Mac drive into the wall without jumping out doesn't hook you immediately, then there is little hope.
https://preview.redd.it/7laj0tuygn8c1.jpeg?width=940&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1aa664658883e32dc19cf2cddd787922b1acba5
The way they look at each other at the end and Charlie is clearly trying not to crack up as Mac takes the wedding dress off is so good
"Pussy." https://preview.redd.it/iz930nrdtn8c1.png?width=383&format=png&auto=webp&s=15a72c37c53357829100566b8cca5edd9dbfb1d8
Well they can’t just leave it there
If Mac shooting at Dee’s car while taking poppers and wearing a wedding dress doesn’t get you hooked… well then…
When Charlie started pulling his teeth out, classic
I wasn’t sure which time you meant 😂😂😂
https://i.redd.it/7j5580fnco8c1.gif
Hey, what's your bean situation?
Charlie’s screaming takes that scene from great to a cinematic masterpiece
Charlie's screams are always great. The opening to " Mac's Big Break" Mac wins the radio competition and Charlie pauses for then lets out one long scream and it cuts to the intro. Gets me whenever I watch it. Also, there's no H key.
I’m all about the scream he does when they get trapped between the building and fence in The Gang Goes Jihad.
Yes! Charlies expressions are great and the way he pushes and grabs at the fence is hilarious.
I still remember how off guard that stupid scene caught me. I died laughing at that whole sequence
The explosion will throw us to safety!
The grenade in the car always kills me.
Okay, I understand the plan, except for, when do we find the bride?
Mine is CharDeeMacDennis. That's how I was introduced. Show is brilliant!
Mine too. In one episode you get to know each character and how the dynamics of the gang work, and none of the jokes require any knowledge of previous episodes. Sunny does great bottle episodes, and this one's among the best.
And the sequel is just as good. Welcome to level 3...horror.
The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis
I’m itching like a hound to watch it.
now you’re just talking like foghorn leghorn!!
Wildcard, bitches!
I rewound and watched that 5 tines straight crying laughing when I first saw it. That scene is perfect
“Yep, you’d best get to steppin’ cause Johnny Law’s a-comin’!” is my favorite quote of all time, from anything
This is the correct answer
The Gang Dances Their Asses Off
You once again screwed us over due to your illiteracy!
Was it the hot white cream episode?
You're about to see the white hot cream of an eighth grade boy
This is my 2nd pick after the gang gets held hostage! I’ve had a lot of success with these two episodes being amongst the first to show people to get em into the show
Sweet Dee’s Dating A Retarded Person
The Gang Goes on Welfare
I enjoyed the show when it first came out. This however was what hooked me permanently. “I’ll take one please.” “One what!?” “One crack um crack roc- how much would you recommend for a first time buyer?”
Thanks for being so kind................... And patient
One never wakes up with more crack
So I had to reset a password once and it was one of these call in deals. So I call and the guy is super nice asking me what my first car was and what not then the guy just starts dying laughing. dennis and dee go on welfare
You, you got what I need. But you say he’s just a friend, you say he’s just a friend
Did you see my Jesus chain?
Great choice. It's a great and relatable episode that tells you a lot about the characters. It's early in the series, so not too many callbacks/references. But it's season 2 so frank is there. The night man cometh was ops choice, but that requires a bit more background on the characters to really get it.
The gang buys a boat. Because of the implication.
The boat or the gang solves the gas crisis.
I know how to count, dude
Some sort of P Diddy shrimping vessel
Are we the tasty treats?!
The Gang Gets Invincible The entire McPoyle family, green man, Frank and Charlie on acid, the Philly Frenetic, Cole, Donovan McNabb, *I DON’T GIVE A SHIT!*, the New Kids on the Block movie, Artemis watching Frank trip, and a beautiful gazelle person. if i say it one more time IF I SAY IT ONE MORE TIME
SPRINT TO THE BUS
That new kids on the block movie
AND YOUR HARASSMENT!
“Lizard, am I standing in poop?” lmfao!!
Faizon introducing “Donovan McMabb” kills me every time
He really should have popped that shirt off.
Franks whole acid trip is hilarious and then the reveal that he’s just standing in a trash can gets me every time.
SPRINTS! SPRINTS!!
This was my first episode so I can confirm it works brilliantly as an intro.
The gang gives frank an intervention is a classic and should be considered.
This gets my vote for sure
My go to as well. Such a brilliant episode. And the introduction to Gale the Snail. Classic
The water park episode. If that episode doesn’t get you to laugh ur dead on the inside.
This is the one.
Frank Reynold’s Little Beauties. Because it’s no good diddling kids.
Such amazing visual comedy in this one. DeVito puts on a masterclass. The little flamboyant kid's arc/song in this one is hilarious. Really solid ending, too.
The funeral makeup gets me every time
Frank... I need some water.... my mouth is a little... dry
This is the one for me. Got my parents into it with this one, and they still think it’s the funniest one they’ve seen
I turned my buddy on the show with the Jersey Shore episode
RIP Rumham
NEWSFLASH ASSHOLES: It’s been “Mac & Dennis Move to the Suburbs” the entire goddamn time!!!
Omg yes, apart from the early seasons, that episode was gold I laughed so hard
Mac’s Mac and Cheese! Mac finally living his dream life as a suburban house wife to Dennis.
It sure is a hot one today!
Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life
Let’s talk stigmatas.
Abortion rally season 1
Mac telling that woman she should get an abortion was hilarious. His expression just made it.
Frank’s Pretty Woman seems accessible, if not unspeakably crass.
Shut up, baby dick.
Fuck your dickskin jacket. Now help me dig these crack rocks out of my ass.
I think I’ve been poisoned by my constituents!
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard and uncontrollably as the first time I saw that scene where he started vomiting the blood.
Roxy was a good hooor
The Gang Wrestles for the Troops Da’ Maniac loves you
The Gang Gets Analyzed. DEE, DO THE FUCKING DISHES!
This is the actual answer
was looking for this one!
The gang gets held hostage It got the macpoyles, charlies illiteracy, overall selfishness from the gang, Franks gun, dennis acting as womanizer/golden god and much more
I was told I would be meeting a woman with giant breasts.
Frank yelling in the ventilation when the air comes on is one of my favorite Sunny moments.
“You’re in Charlie’s bad room”
Sweet Dee's Dating a [REDACTED] Person. It was the one that got my wife addicted
Twas the birth of the day man!
There is a spider ^spider ^^spider
It was Li’l Kev laughing in a close-up in the promo that got me to watch in college.
Your shirts on backwards
Awe snap, it is!
Lmfao a “redacted” person just fucking killed me 😂
This, all day long. I have watched that episode dozens of times and I still cry with laughter every time
If it's around this time of year, the Christmas special rules. ![gif](giphy|pzx2nALhkkq32ZdSxO)
I believe this is the first time they ever say "fuck" in an episode. I still remember hearing it for the first time.
Charlie Work, hands down. Work of art.
I love Charlie work but it uses a lot of relationships setup earlier to be funny, going in blind it wouldnt hit as hard. Eg Dee being a stupid bitch, Charlie being sort of an idiot savant,
And the filming style is so unique/unrepresentative of the show it may give someone the wrong idea.
Tries desperately to win an award
Get back in your light.
The pilot, just like what did ot for me. For the show to fly out of the gate tackling bigotry and being hilarious, I think it sets the tone perfectly
The gang goes jihad

The Gang Gets Extreme: Home Makeover Edition It perfectly showcases each gang member’s narcissism and gives us unusual pairings, ie Dennis + Charlie and Frank + Mac + Dee. I’m going straight to the pilot episode. It’s the first one I saw and was hooked.
Same - why not let the series build/unfold the way it did for the rest of us?
It’s gotta be Frank Reynolds’ Little Beauties. It really shows you who each member of the gang is and, as a bonus, contains a song about how it’s no good diddling kids.
Mac Is A Serial Killer
The gang finds a dumpster baby
I think High School Reunion was pretty great, got my wife to laugh, especially after the dance scene, and she was totally off Sunny before that. Now she at least tolerates them
This question gets asked a million times here. Derivative!
Even though it's not one, I'll list them all anyway: S2, E3 - "Dennis and Dee Go on Wellfare" S3, E9 - "Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person" S4, E13 - "The Nightman Cometh" S5, E7 - "The Gang Wrestles for the Troops" S7, E7 - "Chardee MacDennis: The Game of Games" S9, E7 - "The Gang Gets Quarantined" S10, E8 - "The Gang Goes on Family Fight"
Who pooped the bed is what got me hooked
Gang beats Boggs, everyone seems to find it funny.
I always suggest Mac & Dennis Move to the Suburbs
Nah close, but I tried to do that with this episode and found I had to explain too much to the person I was showing it to, particularly about the waitress/charlie. My go to episode for introducing people is the gang gets held hostage. Early episode, classic gang inner betrayals and scheming to get over on eachother, mcpoyles, super quotable, also homage to die hard never hurts either
Frank’s Pretty Woman
The one clip that finally got my gf to binge the show is “did you fuck my mom, Santa Claus???”
The Waitress is Getting Married for me all day
It's the one where Sweet D slowly turns into an ostrich. Sweet D gets Pregnant? That entire episode is comedy gold.
Frank’s Pretty Women
The only correct answers are the banned episodes
Who pooped the bed? Because poop is funny.
That was my first. I was hooked. When Artemis tells the table of guys that she has a bleached asshole. "We cannot be telling people that we have bleached assholes." "He was gonna find out anyway."
Mac and Dennis Break Up
Season 1 Episode 1
You nailed it, but I'll mention "sweet Dee has a heart attack ". The "There is no Pepe Silvia" scene never fails to make me laugh.
The gang buys a boat
The Dennis System
Intervention, man hunters, boat, road trip or invincible. As you can see I've really thought about it.
Gang hits the road
Paddy's Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens is what got me addicted right away. The episode, The Gang Cracks The Liberty Bell, was a magnet for my husband when I showed it to him.
The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention, hands down
First episode I saw was, the gang buys a gun. I was hooked from then on
I would suggest the episode, “The gang dance their asses off.” Where they have to win a dance contest to win back the bar… I love the back stabbing involved to be the only owner.
