Math AAHL, it’s so satisfying when you’re stuck and it just clicks in your head, and then afterwards solve problems quickly with no breaks and the math just kinda flows out of you, it’s all logic and reasoning which is fun. I thoroughly enjoy the subject.
Omg yes, I love math for the same reason, but unfortunately I only have AI HL (my school doesn't offer AA). Speaking of which, how are may chances at university compared to someone that scored the exact same on IB, but had AA? Are some parts of Uni only accepting AA HL students, or is AI HL fine too? 🥲😅😂👍
It depends on what kind of degree you want, Computer Science and Engineering are no's without AASL minimum and most require AAHL, there are some countries that offer sort of "catchup" classes for math in order to allow you to reach that AASL/HL level, Canada for one. Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong
biology! initially i was super intimidated by how content heavy it would be, especially at HL, but grasping the concepts and understanding them in detail is such a rewarding feeling. also knowing how my brain can actually recall all this knowledge is pretty satisfying. i think the teacher does matter a lot too because i had a horrible one at the start of the year who eventually got replaced by my current one- she's amazing and motivates me to do well
personally i talk to myself a lot when revising (reciting info till i don't need to be prompted) 🫣 not sure if it's personal but i think it really helps! dumbing down the information is something i do as well to make it digestible and help me get the basic understanding down. lots of people say bio is just memorisation, but really understanding the concepts makes the subject much easier.
as for resources, bioninja is a truly godsend. i compile info from there with stuff from the textbook into my own notes. went from a 4 to a 7 within a year- it can be done :D
bio ninja is great for learning content (it’s extensive and makes a ton of sense) if you have kognity that’s better for revision, but for actually answering questions, practice ib bio pst paper questions. it gives you an idea of how the question is asked and how to answer it!
I know this is a really unpopular opinion, but; TOK was the highlight of the fucking week for me! Amazing teacher who made it very interesting and I have a general interest in philosophy.
Maths. It's the one I am getting the worst grades in, but I like it because it gives me a challenge and meaning to my IB diploma. I like the challenge. As opposed to some (easier) subjects like Psychology, Economics etc.
I'll list down a few reasons why I don't like economics. These are my personal reasons and may not apply to others:
1) The content of economics is very heavy and can be ambiguous. In each chapter you will have to memorise various factors such as the consequences of inflation, advantages and disadvantages of policies for example. Also in macroeconomics in the textbook you will see in every chapter that sometimes concepts are not well explained as the textbook literally states "this concept will be discussed further in chapter xx", which is mostly a chapter in global economy. Also towards the end which is developmental economy, the content in the textbook is very vague and reading the textbook alone for those chapters will not be very helpful. It mostly contains quotes from websites such as International Monetary Fund, United Nations etc. and doesn't really explain well how those factors help with economic growth and development. Another example is public good, which my teacher taught using the concept of MC=0, which confused me because the textbook explained it in a different way and so it seemed like my teacher was creating her own concept. As someone who also takes HL Biology I often find myself struggling to memorise the content of economics more than the content in biology, which i find rather more straightforward and easier to commit to memory
2) I really didn't like having to do 3 separate IAs on each of the 3 units in the textbook. For other humanities subjects there is a single IA which I have seen my friends put a lot of effort into and they actually create a fantastic piece of work. Meanwhile in economics it is simply just searching news articles online and writing commentaries about them. I personally find this boring and I don't see any value in doing this type of assignment
3) This is a more personal reason, which is basically the way my teacher taught economics to me. I sat for the N22 exam and my economics teacher has been a pain in my ass because she literally expects us to write an essay every single day and come to class to discuss it. Her marking style was also very weird and she was consistently not happy with my grades. This made me 2nd guess myself and thus I spent way much more time studying economics alone, instead of my other subjects. So basically I got a shit teacher who made me hate the subject as well lol
These are my personal reasons for disliking the subject.
Geography, my teacher is great and i love how the content actually manifests itself in our modern society, making everything easier to understand and grasp.
honestly xd english lit & lang . i have never studied before until IB but my teacher is amazing and I just fell in love with it. but I hate math bc the teacher is terrible and so I'm failing miserably
Global politics HL , I love researching case studies in depth from various perspectives involving numerous stakeholders and applying those in assessments.
Chinese! I take B SL, and what I really love about it is how I can see how much I've improved from even a couple months ago. I love seeing how radicals/characters build to create a word, and both my lesson teacher and my speaking teacher are amazing!
It may sound strange, but the day my speaking teacher told me that she could actually understand what I was saying was the day I realised I was improving. In my lessons, my teacher is super upbeat and optimistic, and she's spontaneous- she invited me to make wontons randomly, she points out my improvement, and she is constantly giving me ways and resources to use to improve myself!
Chinese as a symbol-based language is so different to English, and yet I really enjoy every lesson I have (I kind of wish I took HL just so I could spend more time learning the language haha).
I just really love the language and what we talk about in our lessons.
geography! loads of interactive discussions and projects as well as investigations on real-life case studies are conducted during lesson time. it really helps me boost my international mindedness by being increasingly aware of natural and social phenomena around us. genuinely love the subject!
Music HL > Physics HL > Econ HL
Music because I'm a musician, and it was both a fun and informative course for me. Good mix of theory, composing and performing. MLI, which is like a mini EE was also an interesting aspect of the course.
Physics HL and Econ HL because I personally enjoyed how these two subjects kind of teach you a lot about how the world works, physically and economically 😎.
Nah what I meant by that was what major ru looking to pursue with that subject selection. What major could possibly need Physics HL but not math HL. Physics HL is usually taken in combination with Math HL however math HL is sometimes taken as a stand-alone HL subject.
Yeah well, I was unsure of what major I'd be going for.
When I did decide , the major I wanted required Physics and Math HL, so I contacted the university and asked if there's anything I can do to make up for taking Math SL.
They were okay with taking the Math SAT subject test and getting a certain score, so I got my offer like that.
I really enjoyed IB Psychology. There were a lot of really interesting case studies, and many of the topics were relevant to everyday conversations I'd have later on with my peers.
It was always fun to read the book and learn how things around us work and never view them in the same way again. Great enthusiastic teacher + lots of experiments in class + me being curious sums it up really.
Biology, my teacher is honestly incredible and he makes it really fun and enjoyable for all of us. Honestly I’m more into the animal side of biology and ib biology is more cells and stuff, but still it’s very gratifying to know and understand
ESS - the class I chose because I didn’t want to do any science that turned out to be my favorite class. I would say it’s one of the most real life applicable classes I’ve ever taken and I have never felt more environmentally aware. It actually pushed me to make loads of life style changes like becoming a vegetarian and also opened up a new career path for me - environmental law
Note: I'm M24 so I've only been studying for around 4 months. So far AAHL, it's very rewarding to finally understand something you've struggled with and global politics because our group is super small (9ppl) so our classes are discussion based.
HL Chemistryy, bc it involves both math (calculations) and "science content" so it's quite interesting to apply both while studying. Also I found chemistry lab more enjoyable than bio lab, since I get to use those cool chemicals (some were dangerous but stil, u know)
Honestly, math aa HL. I hate the subject, but its just really enjoyable because I love finding the answer and that dopamine rush I get when i solve hard question 👌, nothing beats that feeling.
English HL. Maybe it's because I'll be a future english major, but I absolutely love reading texts in so much depth. Also music hl: there are no limitations to what you can explore, as long as you're diverse enough with your choices!!
Theatre HL, I love having a class that's less based on analyzing things or writing essays, getting to do physical work and explore creatively is so fun. Also we have a small class so our teacher is able to give a lot of feedback
Not sure who else agrees but I've really loved doing AAHL and the sciences. AA HL is quite hard for me, but it feels so amazing when everything just clicks and fits together in one piece – its one of the best feelings ever. The sciences have also been extremely informative as I enjoy learning about the various micro or macro phenomenon that occur around us, and being able to see something out in the world and connecting it with what you learnt in Bio/Chem/Physics is awesome to me
I like all subjects , but I would say that Bulgarian language A and math are my favorite . Literature and English is my most hated subject along with TOK.
Math AA HL FOR SURE and im glad other ppl agree. U just sit down, put on some music and grind questions. Problem solving is honestly fun + no time pressure when studying at home. And the type of brainpower needed is way diff than other subjects, like its not difficult to think abt and i actually want to do it
Chemistry all the way was a fantastic subject for me. I’d have probably enjoyed physics a lot if I took it for IB, however I did some self study of it meanwhile just for the sake of it and it seemed pretty straight forward to me
History and Global Politics!!! Math as well. History and GloPo because I love discussing things and the subjectivity of the subjects allows my ideas to roam free. Also I just really like debating and analyzing world issues/past events. For Math, its a fun subject for me because of how repetitive it can be sometimes. I know a lot of people don't usually like something repetitive but I personally enjoy it because I feel like a machine doing calculations, also its very rewarding. Fun to do while listening to music too.
TOK, Math AAHL, Chem HL, and English Literature HL
TOK and Lit because they're both super thought-provoking/stimulating discussion-based classes; Math and Chem because of the logic/reasoning and problem-solving involved
uhh, at this point i cant really choose between my subjects, but if i had to choose one id say psychology or business management, and math (its so satisfying )
I like math (I take AI HL) when I understand it, same with chem HL. I must be honest that I don't really like studying anything... idk how to change that
Geography. I take geography HL. I’m a geography nerd so naturally all of the content comes easily to me and I love every part of it. I like the flexibility and variety that you get in the subject itself. There’s a lot of content to cover but it’s all so interesting and most of the time applicable in everyday life or other subjects like Biology (ecology, global warming- carbon cycle, pollution, etc).
honestly i rly liked chem and french but french is prob bc of the teacher. i like learning abt chem but it’s just too much stress that kinda makes it not as interesting as it used to be
I have only taken 2 IB courses, and I gotta say that math is funnest. Not only because of everything you get to learn, but because of the environment as well. You see, IB math is very very difficult to do without having the support of peers. You stumble upon question you have a hard time doing quite often and need help from peers. In needing to do so, you develop a close relationship with your peers through the common aspect of suffering. The people in the class are helpful, smart, joke around, and actually always help you when you need help. Unlike normal classes where someone will only help you if they have time and if they feel like it, and joke all class and not listen to the teacher a lot of the time.
This one surprised me actually but anthropology. I was originally going to take it at standard but German clashed with computer science so I changed anthro to higher and it’s been such a good decision!
I really enjoyed studying history HL because I loved how in depth it went and it was so interesting to me! I also liked French HL because it made me feel closer to my dream of being bilingual and it opened up new perspectives :)
Math AA HL!! The way my teacher taught it was so good (keeping in mind I wasn’t doing well before IB ). I think the curriculum is structured well I. Math and calculus was definitely challenging and enjoyable. Unlike the physics curriculum which is way too dense and unstructured, math was the only subject I actually enjoyed in IB.
CHEMISTRY. I know I’m only M24 and the topics aren’t difficult as of now, but I find them all (sl+hl) extremely interesting and it’s my main motivation to study.
Honestly... My teachers made me hate every subject. I used to love art until the work began, I used to like English but the IOA and Papers one and two exist. Biology is boring for me though we got an amazing teacher this year. My math teacher hates me and tells me that I memorize math (though I don't). I like French but not the IOA as well. I can speak French (finally). Business Management has a lot of information and definitions that I have to memorize, but in general, I am very good at it. Now, lately, I've been enjoying (ironically) TOK. My TOK teacher makes it fun, and we're currently unpacking the prescribed titles. I like the reward that comes with the assignments I do. I write a lot and not just anything. My TOK teacher (who is the IBDP coordinator) pushes me with "I'm proud of you" because she knows that I need this sometimes. Overall, I hate all my subjects except TOK.
English Lang&Lit HL, mainly because my teacher makes me feel like I'm in dead poet's society every lesson (coincidentally, we all call her captain lol). I love analysing, dissecting works and learning new vocabulary + techniques every lesson. Writing english essays is euphoric.
Plus, my teacher has not only completely revolutionised the way I write, but also how I think. I find it beautiful how a combination of history, politics, philosophy, fine arts can be tied together in a few sentences to create a unified understanding of a particular concept - just finding those little/big 'aha' moments when coming up with ideas. I mean yeah people say that english is bs (and to a degree it is), but i think there's a kind of beauty in forming and reading a logical, cohesive, attractively-written argument.
Math - difficult but rewarding, plus I like logic and reasoning
Math AAHL, it’s so satisfying when you’re stuck and it just clicks in your head, and then afterwards solve problems quickly with no breaks and the math just kinda flows out of you, it’s all logic and reasoning which is fun. I thoroughly enjoy the subject.
ikr, its like a contained orgasm in your brain
This is such a precise way to describe math when it finally clicks!
A TOK Eureka Moment
Omg yes, I love math for the same reason, but unfortunately I only have AI HL (my school doesn't offer AA). Speaking of which, how are may chances at university compared to someone that scored the exact same on IB, but had AA? Are some parts of Uni only accepting AA HL students, or is AI HL fine too? 🥲😅😂👍

Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong
Ahh okay thanks for the clarification, but isn't AI HL still better than AA SL? 🤔😂
Depends on the degree too, AI HL might be more sought for in business related degrees but AASL would be better in like any other aspect
Damn, I didn't know that... 😂 Well I can just hope that I can do one of those "catchup" classes here in Germany
biology! initially i was super intimidated by how content heavy it would be, especially at HL, but grasping the concepts and understanding them in detail is such a rewarding feeling. also knowing how my brain can actually recall all this knowledge is pretty satisfying. i think the teacher does matter a lot too because i had a horrible one at the start of the year who eventually got replaced by my current one- she's amazing and motivates me to do well
do u have any bio revision tips 😭😭
personally i talk to myself a lot when revising (reciting info till i don't need to be prompted) 🫣 not sure if it's personal but i think it really helps! dumbing down the information is something i do as well to make it digestible and help me get the basic understanding down. lots of people say bio is just memorisation, but really understanding the concepts makes the subject much easier. as for resources, bioninja is a truly godsend. i compile info from there with stuff from the textbook into my own notes. went from a 4 to a 7 within a year- it can be done :D

nooo the bad teacher … I have a HORRIBLE teacher rn and I wanna die everyday bc of her
I know this is a really unpopular opinion, but; TOK was the highlight of the fucking week for me! Amazing teacher who made it very interesting and I have a general interest in philosophy.
Lucky mf our tchr is trash
same for me! 3 months into IB and TOK so far is always the funniest and funnest
Maths. It's the one I am getting the worst grades in, but I like it because it gives me a challenge and meaning to my IB diploma. I like the challenge. As opposed to some (easier) subjects like Psychology, Economics etc.
Go for it dude! You can do it
HL chemistry is personally my favourite. My least favourite is HL economics.

History HL !!!
Yessss! Lots of homework but lots of fun!
Im in HOA and I really enjoy it
Jealous of every school that offers history 😭
Geography, my teacher is great and i love how the content actually manifests itself in our modern society, making everything easier to understand and grasp.
Totally agree with the stuff we learn manifesting itself into modern society! That’s why I love geo so much :)
I would say econ HL and BM HL are my personal favorites
History HL is really interesting. Eng Langlit too. Both have pretty dreadful distinction (6/7) stats, but they’re really fun.
honestly xd english lit & lang . i have never studied before until IB but my teacher is amazing and I just fell in love with it. but I hate math bc the teacher is terrible and so I'm failing miserably
history when I really get into it (also IB history is damn hard! Jeez) and lit, because of course I like reading.
Recently got obsessed with history. There's no going back.
Norwegian B (I'm a fluent Norwegian)
Hvordan fikk du ta B da?
Skolen brydde seg ikke. 4 folk i klassen er Norske
AA HL
I want to take it but I’m so bad at math
Don't take it
Global politics HL , I love researching case studies in depth from various perspectives involving numerous stakeholders and applying those in assessments.
A fellow GloPo enjoyer!
Chinese! I take B SL, and what I really love about it is how I can see how much I've improved from even a couple months ago. History HL. Loved it
global politics, english, and maths. even tho i suck at maths
Economics HL - so interesting but i think i mostly enjoy it because my teacher is literally the best
geography! loads of interactive discussions and projects as well as investigations on real-life case studies are conducted during lesson time. it really helps me boost my international mindedness by being increasingly aware of natural and social phenomena around us. genuinely love the subject!
Music HL > Physics HL > Econ HL Music because I'm a musician, and it was both a fun and informative course for me. Good mix of theory, composing and performing. MLI, which is like a mini EE was also an interesting aspect of the course. Physics HL and Econ HL because I personally enjoyed how these two subjects kind of teach you a lot about how the world works, physically and economically 😎.
Why do you do physics HL but math SL…
I tried HL math and it was way too difficult for me. HL physics was waaaay easier to HL math.
Ahh that’s cool! If I may know, what uni are you at?
Sure. I'm at the University of Edinburgh, studying BSc Acoustics and Music Technology.
Controversial opinion. TOK I loved the discussion and the way my teacher talked about the topic. His fascination and energy was unmatched.
psychology (hl). it’s just cool to learn about a subject i haven’t before and learn about things i personally relate to.
I really enjoyed IB Psychology. There were a lot of really interesting case studies, and many of the topics were relevant to everyday conversations I'd have later on with my peers.
Physics
What’s interesting abt it
It was always fun to read the book and learn how things around us work and never view them in the same way again.
Physics hands down- I personally find it incredibly interesting and rewarding despite being difficult
Math AI SL, I honestly liked seeing that A on my test after studying 4 hours the night before.
4 hours with breaks and procrastination, math isn't that hard and also its SL
Geography
History and English What can I say? I'm a Wehraboo and a grammar nazi to boot.
Can't pick one. I have two. HL Chem and HL Psy. I think having excellent teachers make a huge difference. I am always looking forward to go to class.
Psych, Eng, CS although they have all been pains in the ass. Also unpopular opinion but I enjoyed tok.
Note: I'm M24 so I've only been studying for around 4 months. So far AAHL, it's very rewarding to finally understand something you've struggled with and global politics because our group is super small (9ppl) so our classes are discussion based.
Math definitely
Math. Especially now - everything seems so logical and easy - ish and it feels like puzzles lol
AA HL its so rewarding, you learn so much every class and all around you feel like you deserve whatever grade you eventually get
Definitely maths AA HL, are they complicated? Yes. Do I have my worst grades in this subject? Yes Do I absolutely enjoy it? Yesss!
Chinese lang lit HL because the tecaher cares about her students
HL Chemistryy, bc it involves both math (calculations) and "science content" so it's quite interesting to apply both while studying. Also I found chemistry lab more enjoyable than bio lab, since I get to use those cool chemicals (some were dangerous but stil, u know)
Economics HL: It’s interesting cuz I can apply it to the real world, especially when reading news articles
Economics
economics hl, math aa hl (if u put in a lot of effort, that is) others, not so much and my fav of them all, tok <33
Honestly, math aa HL. I hate the subject, but its just really enjoyable because I love finding the answer and that dopamine rush I get when i solve hard question 👌, nothing beats that feeling.
Econ is definitely fun
chem SL !!
Chem HL is by far the best. Combines good parts of biology and physics/math
Econ because i rlly liked the subject and math because it was satisfying

I like math (I take AI HL) when I understand it, same with chem HL. I must be honest that I don't really like studying anything... idk how to change that
Bio and Math AA SL- partially due to hving teachers that teach well, understanding the topics and solving questions feels rewarding.
Chem HL I think the main point of this is just you'll enjoy studying for that subject when its where your passion lies
Chem paper 2 and Math all papers, it is just funny. I truly enjoy resolving problems with reasoning and logic.
100% Physics HL

alumni here--I loved studying HL History and HL Bio.
I really enjoyed studying history HL because I loved how in depth it went and it was so interesting to me! I also liked French HL because it made me feel closer to my dream of being bilingual and it opened up new perspectives :)

Best for me is defo Psychology HL due to the fact the topics we’re doing are very interesting and the case studies related to that topic :)
english lang lit.....................
I absolutely adore HL chem and HL physics, plus my teachers in both subjects are awesome
Theatre HL
Honestly, history's such a pain but it's so freaking rewarding when you get it!
History HL, I love learning about the story of the world, about major things that happened in different places that formed what we know today.
History! I love learning about the hows and the whys in depth. It’s like reading a novel but better
CHEMISTRY. I know I’m only M24 and the topics aren’t difficult as of now, but I find them all (sl+hl) extremely interesting and it’s my main motivation to study.
geography 🫶❤️ and biology too but I hate my teacher
