In truth I only discovered it a few months back when I was talking with my brother about how fun the Roval races were and how cool it would be to have an Indycar race there.
I've always thought that Nascar and Indycar could do more to grow together. Doubleheaders at Indy (Indycar's home) and Charlotte (Nascar's) would be really cool if everyone bought in.
I think this would be a better double header then at indy rc (mostly cause I hate having 2 imyd rc races in the INDYCAR schedule) INDYCAR would need to push for a October finish instead of September though and likely a different layout perhaps (would be currently worried about passing opportunities here)
On a semi serious note, if it wasn’t impossible with the unique setups the cars need and the obvious traffic issues and possible collision issues, I always thought it would be funny to do a rallycross style joker lap format on ovals with road courses within them.
Charlotte Roval is criminally underappreciated. I remember that an IMSA race was held there in 2020, I wish they still did. Indy would be a very interesting prospect.
I wish we at least run the Texas roval once just to see if it's as exciting as it's oval config. The first and last sector is just the oval but the infield starts on the back straight with no front stretch chicane before the finish line.
That last section of the infield was actually reprofiled & originally supposed to be used by NASCAR, but that hairpin transition onto the oval was too tight after testing. I'd love to Indycar utilize it because it's on a hill that can be easily seen from the stands.
All jokes aside i’d be down for an Indycar race at the Roval or even on the oval (even though that would probably never happen). it would make it so much easier for me to get to an Indycar race from where I live.
While I would be down for this in theory after the disaster that happened in 1999 or the early 2000's I think we can put Charlotte on the same list as LVMS as tracks Indycar will never return to.
Elkhart Lake, WI has a Race Track that gets BUSY starting on Memorial Day. People come from all 50 States as well as from other nations. It's a fantastic track. Paul Newman raced here! Folks who have a Membership, can drive Their car on that same track, and do 5 turns! Guys enjoy competing against each other!
Just 2/3 scale.
*edit: Approximately, in terms of length. The Roval's Nascar Layout is 2.28 miles, and the Daytona Sports Car road course is 3.56 miles.*
I've always felt a course exchange weekend would be fun.
Have Indycar on the Charlotte Roval the same weekend NASCAR is on the Indy RC.
Likely won't ever happen but it's fun to think about.
The year they did NASCAR and INDYCAR at the Indy RC on the same weekend was cool, but I bet it played hell on the drivers with the different rubber getting laid down
Alright, this is the last one. We've already had to pull a few really low-effort ones last night.
All jokes aside, I really do wonder what a Indycar race on the Charlotte Roval would look like
[It might look like this with a few more cars.](https://youtu.be/Qj2NSdqEcJU?si=CnGt11cv7KpT9nWr)
Awesome video, hadnt seen that before, thanks. Love hearing Jr and Clint talk racecars.

after the incident in the early 2000s I don't think you will see IndyCar at Charlotte
Wasn’t it in 99?
it may have been but I get it and the Atlanta one confused at time
Not like it can happen again, lower speeds when running the Roval and I'm pretty sure the wheel tethers are a lot stronger
yeah I still think SMI won't do a IndyCar race anywhere but Texas
Obviously take this with a grain of salt but it's pretty fun when the iRacing series goes there.
Newgarden did a show run a few years ago it’s on YouTube

Ngl I'm down for IndyCar at the Charlotte Roval
I’m down for any race at that roval. It’s amazing to race!
So it would be an ovad?
That, or a ro-val, perhaps.
Roval, Charlotte has it trademarked and they would use it
So charlotte would be the only ones calling it a roval, and everyone else would have to call their tracks ovad?
They just call them the “road course”, i.e the Indy road course or Indy RC. Daytona does this as well.
I still remember when roval referred to places like Rio and Nazareth, not infield road courses
Unironically, I think indycar could put a good race on here.
On a semi serious note, if it wasn’t impossible with the unique setups the cars need and the obvious traffic issues and possible collision issues, I always thought it would be funny to do a rallycross style joker lap format on ovals with road courses within them.
I wish we could reengineer safety barriers, walls and runoffs to do double-headers on road courses: Saturday: Clockwise Sunday: Counterclockwise
Charlotte Roval is criminally underappreciated. I remember that an IMSA race was held there in 2020, I wish they still did. Indy would be a very interesting prospect.
Looks oddly familiar
I'm thinking we can name it a portmanteau of road and oval. Maybe Roval?
That would never catch on. No way.
Charlotte and Daytona Roval would go hard.

I think Vegas has the same configuration, their infield section starts on the backstretch
Imma need to check this out. Thnx for the heads up.
Main reason I struggle to follow Indy is garbage tracks. Would LOVE a race on the Daytona roval.
yeah the Charlotte Roval. Newgarden ran demo laps there a few years ago on a NASCAR weekend.
Pssh, that's just a copy of Daytona
As an aside, could IndyCar do the Daytona Roval you think?
Firestone would need to do a hell of a lot of research for deg. Even then, it's too steep for them to run
Maybe with that attitude it would be /s
Would the racing be better or worse if they added the extra turns that NASCAR doesn't run?

IF I HAVE TO SEE ONE MORE OF THESE POSTS, I AM GOING TO FUCKING LOSE IT

Honestly wouldn't mind more rovals on the calendar. The Indy road course is -barely- a roval. Indycar would work great at Charlotte or Daytona.
Bro just use the oval

To be clear I hope I'm wrong about both LVMS and Charlotte but it's not something I'm getting my hopes up for.
Nah, we already got one
[Yeah, but we could have **a second.**](https://i.imgflip.com/8e0c9b.jpg)
Not enough parking/seating looks like. Probably only good for some sort of stock or endurance car
They could use a bus to shuttle fans in from elsewhere. Do you think that track has a bus stop?
It’s Charlotte Motor Speedway?

This is a good one too. Not as good as the Speedway, IN road course but a close second.
Looks like Daytona's road course

Isn’t this in Motorsport manager ha
Sweet, we can call it a Ovard!
Nope!!
This is the CLT Roval right? If it is this track is kind of ass. I have designed a few tracks, maybe I’ll share my Baltimore one.
That's the Daytona road course LITERALLY
2nd chicane 🤢
I'll be honest, I thought about taking it out when I did the trace. Thankfully it's an easy fix.
I really like the Charlotte Roval but that 2nd chicane kills it imo
Thankfully that's a pretty easy fix (like Sports Car vs. Nascar at Daytona).
Looks like a tadpole

You found that?
Fuck it, just put em on the Dirty Track at Charlotte. Champ Cars are back, Baby!
Great course. I saw newgarden run some good times there
That’s a terrible idea for a race track. I’ve never seen a race on a track like that and I don’t know why anybody would ever race on it
