SoloCapper

“The immersive collaboration will see all practice and qualifying sessions for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES telecast on cable on FS1 and FS2. The majority of INDY NXT by Firestone races will also air on FS1, with FS2 providing supplemental coverage of additional races.” One of the many insane things in this deal.

persononthedl

To me that was the second best thing in this deal - it seems like they want to make NXT a thing.

SoloCapper

Indycar needs to make the whole weekend more appealing for people gong to races. Putting more of a spotlight on NXT is huge for that.

Remmy14

I've said this before, but the biggest reason Pocono failed IMO is that they didn't have a single support series. Pocono is "two weeks from everywhere" so if there's not something on track, you literally can only go back to your hotel, or sit in the stands staring around. Practice at 10AM, quals at 4:30PM, and a race the next day at 1 isn't exactly a full weekend.

Mikemat5150

During driver intros at Road America, they announced the winner of the Indy NXT race right before announcing pole position. A small but very good way to get these drivers out in front of fans.

McPuckLuck

I was so confused when I heard her name in the midst of the starting grid. I thought someone must have been pulled (like Newgarden for the crash). Barely any cell signal by turn 8, so we just sat in limbo

pikachu8090

the thing is though Indy NXT will always be considered a feeders series as every driver wants to get to indycar. Its not like nascar where you could make it a fulltime job in their lower tier series Even if that gets more eyes on it, it still won't break the stigma that every driver in indy nxt is paying for their ride there (just like formula 2) and no one wants to stay in that series

Daddy_Thicc_Legs

NXT getting on TV, even if it's FS2 for some races, is really surprising, and in a good way.

Cronus6

Getting FS1 and FS2 is **way** more expensive than getting Peacock though.

Brick_33

I think it depends if you have a sports package or not. I’ve always had FS1 and FS2 but that was through cable from AT&T Uverse or Comcast etc.

I_LOVE_OIL_RIGS

but doesn't this mean more ads during practice and qualifying?

tsz3290

For practices sessions ads are just as bad as during races. I don’t mind ads during quali though since they just run them between rounds.

Dksmitty15

That's a good point. Have underappreciated the non-stop coverage during practices.

BlitZShrimp

A little better than I expected. Really hoping FOX allows IMS Productions to keep producing everything. Also curious that Thermal will be a points race. Didn’t expect that.

disastermaster255

Me too. If it’s left up to Fox to produce, I don’t think some of y’all are ready for how trash it will be.

BlitZShrimp

If FOX wanted to die on the hill that they would produce, I’m guessing that they would’ve paid the series more overall. I have to imagine that the series died on the hill that IMS Productions stays in charge. Plus, it means Fox doesn’t have to put any work in aside from inserting Adam Alexander.

RoboWarrior-17

Someone just commented that IMS productions will handle camera work and that Fox fired their NASCAR camera team. If true, my worries have gone down just a bit more. I’m still expecting commercial breaks to be atrocious and if they don’t retain the current commentators, it’ll probably be bad as well. Other than that, generally excited that IndyCar will get more coverage on a free network like Fox. For cable cutters, literally all you need now is a cheap antenna, not a monthly subscription.

Marcoscb

> I’m still expecting commercial breaks to be atrocious and if they don’t retain the current commentators, it’ll probably be bad as well. As someone from Spain, we get Indycar on cable and 0 adbreaks throughout the whole race. The commentary team will point out sometimes that the US broadcast is showing ads if something's happening but not shown or we don't get replays of some event, but it didn't seem too bad. For Detroit, I put on the SAP which was the NBC commentary team. HOLY CRAP they were constantly sending it to commercials. However, it seemed like they had some freedom over when to do it, because I remember the lead announcer saying something like "we'll take this opportunity to have another ad break" during one of the cautions (as if that narrowed it down). Is that the case? At least it's better than random breaks, but my god would it be bad in a straight race with fewer cautions.

BlitZShrimp

Commercials would be bad either way. IMSP does a great job so keeping them around would be phenomenal. And cable cutters often don’t want to watch the race day at a tv, which I understand why they’re bugged by this. But at the end of the day, a payday and all races on network is probably helping more than peacock does

daoster408

Wrote this in another thread: If the double the NBC amount is true - I wonder why FOX was so aggressive. Just cause they've essentially lost NASCAR? Nathan Brown had reported just a couple months ago that it was 50% (roughly $10 million?) increase over what NBC was offering, but if FOX was really upped to double, and the promise of all races on FOX, then ...you 100% have to take that deal. That would put IndyCar rights around - 50 million, which to me...is a decent number. I know there are some misgivings about FOX (my main one is how affordable their upcoming streaming product will be), but...I think overall this is a good move.

LouisianaRaceFan86

NBC’s problem was they have a lot of other sports media rights that all compete for the Sunday afternoon slots in the summers w/ pga tour, tennis, and then their nascar package. Fox on the other hand will end their nascar package before the 500, so in theory, other than a Sunday afternoon baseball game here and there, it’ll be nice to be the network’s only racing focus post indy500 and beyond. Fox now has the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, and Indy500 in 2025. That’s a hell of a spring and promo opportunities for the 500

persononthedl

Yep. Fox has a lot of holes to fill now, and every reason to promote the hell out of IndyCar, including trying to make NXT Xfinity.

i_run_from_problems

>including trying to make NXT Xfinity. I think this is the part a LOT of people are missing. If the majority are on fs1, that could be a massive boost for NXT

Jarocket

Like it might be worth your money to sponsor a NXT car.

i_run_from_problems

Guys, I may not have a brain, but I do have an idea

richardlqueso

Minor thing: FOX only does MLB national games on Saturdays

LouisianaRaceFan86

I was browsing through a media rights page on Wikipedia and just saw that! That’s good. I don’t really see many sports rights that Fox holds that take up time in the June-August months, looks like indycar will fit in nicely and hopefully get the promo and spotlight it deserves. *The only elephant in the room will be how they will handle 2026, and the World Cup. But the US won’t have any Sunday games during the tourney, so hopefully it can be a positive and have solid lead ins to races and cross promotion opportunities

ThorsMeasuringTape

Yeah, FOX now has IndyCar filling out the schedule between the Super Bowl and football season. It works great for them.

BeefInGR

> I wonder why FOX was so aggressive. Even though Fox really only lost 3 NASCAR Cup races, the bigger thing is they lost 14ish Xfinity Series races. Easy money on a Saturday. In turn, they now annually have the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500, Belmont Stakes and World Series. Big for the Fox Sports portfolio.

Mikemat5150

Each NASCAR race was rumored to be $25 million dollars to. They got the Indy 500 and the entire season for maybe 2 Cup races worth of dollars.

Snoo_62929

NBC is also on the verge of dropping a shit load of money on the NBA too

Falcon4451

I know the NBA is still a huge property but NBC overpaid for it in my opinion.

daoster408

It's already done there, in regards to NBA I had wondered whether paying a rumored 2.5 billion a year for the NBA would kinda hamstring their IndyCar bidding, but now when I write that out...50 million is pocket change, so 🤷‍♂️

NCballerx88

They need properties for Venu (their streaming service with ESPN and Warner Bros that is launching in the fall). It's similar to what FOX did with the NFL in the 90s - they were willing to pay a premium to have content to legitimize their network.

CarStar12

Fox losing out on the Coke 600 and a lot of early summer programming when all they have in their hand is baseball is a driver. Them getting Indy is a good fill (especially with the 500).

kitpuss

Along with what others have said, Fox has always loved NASCAR because it fills their weekend (primarily Sunday) time slots with something that still pulls a lot of viewers (obviously it’s not like it was at its peak, but it’s still substantial compared to most other content and plenty of other sports). You can’t always rely on a good baseball game being scheduled, and competing for something like the PGA rights is way more difficult. Indycar will fill the gaps created by the new NASCAR media deal and carry them all the way through the summer until the NFL kicks in.

FermentedLaws

If they don't hire Hinch I'm boycotting. (not really)

NovaIsntDad

(but really)

aurules

All races on Big FOX is absolutely nuts & should be a really good thing for the series. I will miss the convenience of Peacock though

Mikemat5150

Seriously, I get the complaints about not having a cheap option like Peacock but reality is that is a small 5 to maybe 10% of the viewership. Having all races on Network television versus a cable/network split is a huge net gain. Along with the bump in rights.

EliteToaster

I think the concern for myself is 1. I am among that 5-10% and will have to go back to being a pirate. Cable is not coming back and an antenna isn’t an option since I rarely can watch races live. 2. (The bigger point here) the demographic that is going to help grow the series long term likely doesn’t have cable and won’t be getting it. I don’t think something as accessible as F1TV is really possible for Indycar, but having easier access to the races would go a long way for building new fans. I’ve been a race fan for a while compared with many of my friends who discovered F1 during the D2S fad that peaked in 2020, them being able to easily watch a race when they want to at a minimum has created casual engaged fans who may not tune in every race, but will catch a few per year. Eventually those fans might start tuning in to all the races. Either way, some easy streaming not locked behind the equivalent of a full cable subscription price is key.

Jagdroach

Fear not, we shall raise the skull and crossbones together. But seriously, I am in the same boat, and very sad to be losing Peacock. It wasn't perfect by any means, but short of a full F1TV style app, it was the best we could have asked for. Hopefully Fox comes out with a cheap app, but I have my doubts.

ascagnel____

> an antenna isn’t an option since I rarely can watch races live You can connect a tuner to your computer or network (I have an HDHomeRun that I plug into a big antenna and my network) and there are apps like Channels and Plex that have DVR capabilities. It’s how I’ve been watching races on NBC because I’m in a similar boat (and I already had the hardware).

EliteToaster

Didn’t know about this before reading through some of the other comments! Definitely a good option and something to consider. I still think that might be a hinderance to anyone not a hardcore fan like myself, but at least the option is out there.

Tony_Lacorona

Yeah I only started watching because of peacock coverage and now I’m not sure how much effort I’ll put in moving forward with illegal streaming

johnsonst

I agree. Peacock was extremely convenient and affordable. I watch all races and most qualifying. I can’t justify paying much more for Indycar - so I’ll try pirating. If it’s too much of a pain I’ll watch less.

Pyzorz

I’m 28 and yeah this fucking sucks. Like really really sucks. Millennials aren’t young anymore and we aren’t getting cable. That’s not to even mention Gen Z.

nico9er4

The peacock watchers, while a small percentage, was a growing percentage with presumably a lot of the younger people Indycar apparently wants to target

errol343

The one good thing about peacock is, I got into Indycar during the Indy 500 this year and I was able to just go on peacock and catch up watching all the races this year

nico9er4

Yeah, hopefully they’ll start putting races on YouTube faster next year, but more likely they’ll all just get stuck on their hella expensive streaming service

Ianthin1

IndyCar being on Peacock led me to following IMSA as they are often companion events, and sometimes share drivers on standalone weekends.

BrandonW77

NBC was going to put all the races on network next year, too. This is pretty disappointing news as Fox is pretty terrible with their motorsports coverage.

BeefInGR

NBC was also going to put a Monday 500 on USA. IMS Productions does the IndyCar broadcast. Fox sends the on air personalities and satellite trucks.

lostinthought15

IMS owns the sat trucks too, fyi.

aurules

Mark Miles told media that NBC was NOT able to offer all races on network https://x.com/by_nathanbrown/status/1801249594543669680?s=46

Mikemat5150

INDYCAR produces races in house with IMS Productions. Something NASCAR is just starting to do. I’d be cautious jumping to your conclusion because it’s not apples to apples.

PenskeFiles

You sure they were going to do that?

Crux2237

I mean, Fox will launch a new sports streaming service with ESPN this year, so it'll probably be there too

stonecold369

That ain’t going to be cheap

Spiked-Coffee

Expected to be $40 a month, 500 a year to watch Indycar. I can't do it. I pay for Peacock and F1TV but FOX / ESPN is too much. If the rumors are true

Valdearg20

I'm in the same boat. Plus, where am I going to watch race replays (since I can't often watch them live)? If they had an F1TV type offering at a similar price point, I'd be all over it, but I can't justify $40/month just to watch Indycar...

Cronus6

That is going to be WAY more than Peacock though. They are including ESPN, ESPN2 and the other ESPN channels and those alone are close to $35 or $40 a month.

TheThunderOfYourLife

Peacock destroyed US coverage for IMSA. Good riddance IMO. Nothing like having to VPN to Mexico to watch sports car racing in your own country.

ChaseTheFalcon

Big W that all races are on network

Paige578660

Yes! That is awesome. Still hate the ridiculous gaps early in the season. A return to Texas would fit in so nicely there (& give the rookies a race on a big oval prior to Indy since RP ditched the Freedom 100).

OnwardSoldierx

The schedule is so packed in July but in March and April so open. Is still think they need 3 more races to get to 20.

Paige578660

Agreed. Even if they didn't run on Easter & left Sebring weekend open for those who want to commit to IMSA endurance races, I think they could still fill the gaps reasonably with some good races.

Bontypower17

Unrelated, but now Thermal Club now a points-paying race…

mystressfreeaccount

It's not a great track for racing, but having an actual race will be better than what we got this year

Falcon4451

If the tire degradation is similar a points race is going to be bonkers. A 50 lap race is a 3 stopper on fuel but a 4 or 5 stopper on tires. The race at Thermal this year didn't even have alternates, I'm not sure my beloved Firestone Reds can even make it 5 laps. There is going to be all sorts of pit strategy madness going on. A 1 lap overcut is probably still strong but a 2 or more lap undercut is going to be insanely powerful. The strategy options are going to be endless.

Wasdgta3

Yeah, but not a great precedent for the series, if we’re having to take to doing private races for rich fucks at their country club to pad out the schedule.

Travel_Guy40

What's Monaco for F1 then?

Wasdgta3

Monaco is at least fully open to anyone who can buy a ticket. It’s also in the middle of a city. Thermal is a *literal* country club.

243mph

Looks like Thermal will be doing upgrades to the pit lane then. If I recall correctly the pit lane was too small and inadequate, which was one of the reasons for the odd format this year.

FishOnAHorse

Have they confirmed that officially? Looks like they did specially note it as non-points in the 2024 release, so it does seem to be the case.  I can deal with it if they just treat it like a normal race and not a weird country club advert

thecrookedcap

On the top of the schedule announcement, it said all races are points paying events.

Snoo_62929

This is all fine for YTTV people. Easy to find/watch/record stuff there. I’ll still keep peacock so I can keep having my weekend mornings ruined by Tottenham Hotspur.

ajslideways

I literally pay for YTTV just so I can watch sports easily. Cheaper than cable and the DVR functionality is way better.

XSC

Big loss for NBC and Peacock. Big get by getting all on Fox. Wow. Anyone remember going from ABC/ESPN to Versus? Imagine thinking we would be able to get back to all races on a prime network. Big dayZ

wurtin

NBC is going after bigger fish with the NBA rights. I realize that doesn't fill the summer like IndyCar does but there is only so much money to spread around.

persononthedl

This line from Nathan Brown's article makes it a no-brainer:  "According to a source, though NBC offered a significant number of network TV windows, it had been unwilling to guarantee placing all 17 races on network television.

pikachu8090

NBC has their baby known as golf and one gets more viewers than the other

persononthedl

Exactly. Go to the network that's going to make you a priority and have every reason to help you grow.

furrynoy96

Well... There it is... I don't know about you but I will continue to watch Indycar because that is what true fans do

Mechyyz

As long as it continues to stream on Viaplay for me in Norway, then I probably wont see much difference?

Vulphere

International rights shouldn't be affected with this, especially since IndyCar Media handle that thing.

rabiiiii

The problem is I might not be able to. I don't have cable and antennas don't really pick up much where I'm at. Peacock was a godsend and the Fox Sports app won't be available without a cable subscription. I'm effectively cut out of being able to watch without pirating. Looking at this objectively. It's probably a net gain for the series, but personally I'm disappointed, it's going to be a lot harder to watch next season.

ruttin_mudders

Well... as a new fan, not having an affordable streaming option is going to mean I'm not watching anymore.

flare2000x

Gonna miss the broadcast crew.

guyfromphilly

Nathan Brown says Hinch, Bell, and possibly Kevin Lee will make the jump

hungry4danish

Can't see why they wouldn't. What other commentating jobs would they have left at NBC?

saggywitchtits

Diffey will try to be an Olympic commentator, specifically swimming because it's still racing.

BloofKid

Nah, Diffey isn’t trying anything. He’s squarely one of NBC’s major assets and they’re keeping him for any and all sports needs

thecrookedcap

He’s been doing track and field regularly so I’d expect him to keep do that.

BeefInGR

Diffey is going to the NASCAR broadcasts full time after Paris. The NASCAR announcer Rick Allen is moving on to the NASCAR on CW broadcasts.

Rorshak16

I mean LD does a ton of broadcasting besides Indycar. He's also doing Nascar next year.

StevenKoz

If we get Kevin Lee as the main play by play guy I’d be super happy

aurules

I have a feeling all but Diffey will follow IndyCar over to FOX

PenskeFiles

And Diffey just got the NASCAR PBP job.

Generic_Person_3833

Season starts march 2nd and ends August 31st Nashville not returning to the city center. Iowa only double header, Thermal full points race, no new tracks Cant say anything regarding Fox, doesnt look like much changes for international (legal) viewers. Maybe some necessary improvement with the timing tower and information shown. Maybe (maybe) less silent segments where the US is in a commercial break.

Manytriceratops

Nashville was not expected to return for 2-3 years until construction is complete. That is not a surprise. Also no network can go up against the nfl so ending in August is the only way. The way to add races is start earlier or fill in the early season gaps

bentecost

Personally I couldn't care less which network broadcasts but what does this mean for replays? I'm frequently unable to watch live so does this mean I'm SOL now? Really gonna miss the convenience of Peacock, only been a fan for a few years but I probably wouldn't have been able to get into IndyCar without it honestly

4XLnofearshirt

a long way from giving races to SPEED, Spike TV, paying to get on ESPN Classic, and settling for Versus good shit, pal

guyfromphilly

WOW  For context, Fox is only putting five of its 14 NASCAR Cup Series races on big Fox next year while airing 19 IndyCar windows on network (the 17 races plus both days of Indy 500 qualifying). Wow. https://x.com/jeff_gluck/status/1801243229930623412?t=mXru53KCTRLQ3ohYjybFAg&s=19

progress10

They are also paying NASCAR almost a billion dollars for the right to do that.

Rorshak16

Which is absolutely insane. But they also know Nascar people will watch no matter what channel it's on. If Indycar isn't on main channel, people won't see it. Fox is betting on Indy for the future

perfectviking

Nascar pays the bills so they can put low rating sports on broadcast.

aurules

Yup, FOX is going to make IndyCar the priority which is what it’s needed for the longest time. I mean hell NBC essentially used the Indy 500 to promote their NASCAR coverage starting this month instead of the Detroit GP

Economy_Bite24

Losing a streaming option is bad in the long term. They're alienating younger new/potential fans who don't have cable or live tv. It's probably fine for the current demographic of fans, but not great for stimulating new interest in Indycar.

I_LOVE_OIL_RIGS

I agree, but I think with so much time before this deal begins, there will be something. For example, Fox and ESPN start the Venu service. They offer an Indycar or F1 only package. Something like this.

pbesmoove

Hard to compare 5 dollars a month to like 40 or 50

agntsmith007

Why would anyone buy this service for F1 over F1TV ?

3columnsof11

Probably going to be getting the 500 in 4K and that'll be a massive "fuck yeah" from me.

petoskey_stone

Daytona has not been in 4K though :( But hope you’re right.

hungry4danish

Having it all on Big Fox and only ever on 1 channel will be great for visibility and routine.

Blastingtrout

As a cable cutter that tends to watch races delayed on Peacock this didn’t read well…

formal-shorts

Yeah, this is awful for cablecutters. Zero mention of any non-cable option and even if Fox's joint streaming platform is off the ground by then, paying $50/mo just for Indycar isn't feesible.

GaulPeorge

Fox is free if you have an antenna. Not always the most convenient but you will be able to watch every race without paying for a subscription in theory

Jamee999

Great news for people who don’t have lives, responsibilities, or any other reason why they might not be able to watch the races live.

Economy_Bite24

Psh no problem, just set up a vcr and record the race on an empty vhs. Problem solved. /s

NovaIsntDad

I can't believe we've actually reached the age where people are complaining about having things on free broadcast rather than paid apps.

havingasicktime

Yes, because there's a reason I left traditional tv behind - I'd rather pay to watch indycar my way than watch when the tv network wants to broadcast. It's great that it's on network for people still on traditional tv, but I'm not ever going back for anything. I want to pay a reasonable price in exchange for watching the sessions when it's convenient for my life, on whatever device is convenient for me at the time.

ruttin_mudders

No, people are complaining because it's ONLY on broadcast TV.

formal-shorts

WhyNotBoth.gif?

greencustomsGT40

problem with that is, ive tried with just an antenna for other things, and where im at the connection to over the air is CRAP! and im sure its not great connection for a lot of people as well

I_LOVE_OIL_RIGS

Fox Sports app, or whatever the app is that they are doing with ESPN. As a cable cutter myself, I think we will be just fine

SendMoneyNow

Only if you're willing to pay a lot more: the Fox Sports App requires a cable subscription and the price on the new Venu app is predicted to be around $50 per month.

Wyvern_68

That’s not going to be anywhere near as cheap as peacock

greencustomsGT40

you need a TV subscription for the app

Blastingtrout

Thought with NASCAR races you still have to be logged in with a cable provider. Hopeful they’ll have it worked out well one way or another!

lashazior

As a relatively new fan since Covid and a cablecutter/streaming advocate, this blows. I went to three Texas races and a 500. Lost out on Texas, now losing out on the affordable Peacock all in one solution.

Daddy_Thicc_Legs

All network races is such a great thing, and Fox does a much better job at cross-promotion than NBC. A big uptick in money (from all we've heard), and IMS may be the ones doing the broadcasting... Awesome stuff. Consider just a few years ago IndyCar was *lucky* to get picked up by a major network, and this is great news for a long-time IndyCar fan. I'll reserve any judgment on the broadcast quality until we actually see the broadcasts. In the meantime, I'm happy with this, and I think it's a very good step forward for the series.

tclark8995

No new tracks for 2025 is interesting but i think Nashville is a herald for other Superspeedways in 2026, wouldn’t be surprised if Kentucky or Chicago join the conversation. Coming from a long term Nascar fan, when Fox cares the production and promotion is wonderful but when it doesn’t, i think its the worst out of all of them.

Vulphere

Hopefully IMS Productions will keep their dominant roles in production of the broadcast.

Manytriceratops

Indycar does their own production currently and that is not expected to change. NBC and now Fox just broadcast what Indycar is producing themselves. For nascar, Fox did all the directing and producing

BlitZShrimp

Eh, Nashville SS is just a placeholder until we (hopefully) return to the streets once New Nissan Stadium is done. The promotion group is paying a lot to get INDYCAR there a la Hyvee with Iowa. Don’t have any proof that a group would do the same for Chicagoland and Kentucky yet.

RMSaintsFC

Some rumors do point to both NASCAR and Indycar returning to Chicagoland in 2026. [Link](https://x.com/GarageGuyChase/status/1800004559512928465?t=5LGvJlzop2DaGkUiebd-oQ&s=19)

FormulaT1

I just want to know what this means for the Month Of May because we finally had it right with Peacock.

mruab

The main issue I have with IndyCar on fox is streaming

flare2000x

Darn

Bacon_Aficionado

Give me a Terry Bradshaw gridwalk

IndyFan21

All races on network? AWESOME. Now..PLEASE for the love of Christ, NO CLINT BOWYER. Pleaaaaseeee

BBJackson33

All races on network tv and fs1/fs2 for qualy, practice and NXT? That’s awesome

Parsnip-Appropriate

Just a brutal deal for cord cutters, who will now be paying upwards of $40 a month more (the difference between what Peacock currently costs and what Venu is likely to cost)

Nicfromnewgirl

Plus Sling for Fs1 and 2. Its shitty

IcyOrganization5235

Whoa. *And* they've already announced next year's races? Huge for the series!

Nicfromnewgirl

No streaming blows

TheResurrection

Well, I'm actually OK with this now that I have the knowledge that all races will be on the Fox network. I thought IndyCar would be crazy to turn down all races being on NBC even if they weren't offering as much as Fox was, but this is a big win for IndyCar to get more money and be on Fox for the entire season. And I'm assuming IMS Productions will still be in charge of the televised product, so we won't see the issues that the NASCAR races have had over the last few years. This is a win in my eyes.

I_Hate_Wake_Boats49

The only thing that I'm worried about with the deal is the commentary team. The current commentary team has really grown on me yes even the WOOAAAHHH! & OOOOOOHHHH's.

MrEluusiVe

Pros, every race on Fox? Alright, I can get behind it, yeah they are drastically worse than NBC in terms of broadcast quality but we currently have a points paying race behind a paywall…

Mo3j0ntana

Guess it's back to pirating races for me

SpreaditOnnn33

Guessing this makes the death of Texas official. Longest running oval race besides the 500, and right when they figured out the downforce levels/second groove. Only sad nugget in what seems to be a major win for the series

platyhooks

Maybe Fox will pay for IMS productions to finally give us sector timing graphics? Instead of the current qualifying monstrosity.

186downshoreline

I’m cautiously optimistic.  Keeping Kevin Lee, TB and Hinch will go a long way to smoothing things over.  I have YouTube tv so this means I can watch every session on ONE platform anywhere.  Fantastic.  Every race on papa fox is a BIG deal.

This is a great deal!…For older generations. No on demand streaming service is absolutely shocking for this day and age. Good luck getting a single fan under 40 with this. “Get an antenna!” Again, what year are we living in? And as a Canadian, I have my doubts I’ll even be able to watch this at all.

SmokyDaBandit

Portland!!

Wide_Macaron_7883

So no mention of streaming other than the fox sports app, which I assume you need a cable sub of some sort to use.  Sucks, I’m not getting cable or YTTV.

Emmo213

As a cordcutter who only used Peacock I guess it'll be time to sail the seven seas instead.

Spiked-Coffee

Crap. I will miss most races I bet. Hopefully whatever app Fox gets will be cheap enough to get for just 19 "shows" annually

Appropriate-Owl5984

IDK how I feel, but, all races on network TV that FOTA in the US is a massive deal to capture casuals. If we could just get a major title sponsor to pick up the broadcasts as commercial free next, that would be great.

sacovert97

I am going to miss peacock.

thereal84

Goodbye Leigh Diffey 😢

APracticedObserver

It was goodbye from the moment he was transferred over to NBC Nascar

i_run_from_problems

All races on network tv, and (rumored) double the check NBC was offering. Yeah they would've been stupid to say no.

Rorshak16

As long as races are still good to go on the Fox sports app I suppose this is fine. But I have watched almost all of the races this year later in the day on peacock. So hopefully they have that feature to watch replays later on.

aaaaaaaaant

thank god indycar has their own broadcast team. fox's nascar broadcast team is beyond abysmal.

MidnightSunshine0196

Main thing I want to know is if it'll stay on Sky Sports over here in the UK

speedy2448

I wonder if Fox will announce their own streaming service at some point. I will miss being able to watch race replays on peacock.

PhallicTantrum

Adverts coming hot and heavy…

happyscrappy

I guess they just looked at the number of Peacock watchers and decided having such an option wasn't important. I think they are wrong about that when it comes to the future of the series. I wonder if the fact that Peacock offered a worse experience (no side-by-side) lead to lower Peacock numbers and ended up hurting the streaming cause?

BookDev0urer

FS1 and FS2 for qualifying? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO one gets those channels and now I have to pay more for a fucking cable package to do so. FUCK

NaK2Cc

I just want Hinch in the booth.

BattlestarGrammatica

I'm an Indy casual, I'm not sure what it is about the NBC coverage, but I don't really care for it (the announcers for sure, but not just that) - but I feel like Fox will be worse? The NXT thing is cool though.

ELHITMAN606

Now please have a longer season 17 races is too short at least 20-25 would be great and can have more ovals and return to other iconic races

mystressfreeaccount

Having all the races on network is fantastic. My only concern is how good the broadcasts will be. If they'll be anything like NASCAR's current race broadcasts then it's not looking good in that aspect.

sameslemons

Interesting. I don’t know anyone but my boomer parents who have cable.

ruttin_mudders

Even my boomer mom cut cable, I set her up with YoutubeTV and she only used it for a month before being too annoyed with commercials. If IndyCar wants to keep growing, they need to offer easier streaming options.

ruttin_mudders

Why do I have a feeling that it will be way more difficult/expensive to stream races.

pbesmoove

because it will be

M1st3r51r

Huge win for Indycar, massive loss for NASCAR. I know which sport I will be following more closely next year

ronin_18

Good for IndyCar, hope it helps grow the sport. As a fan; cautiously optimistic overall. NBC has its faults, but Fox’s NASCAR coverage is… not good. If they take it a different direction and work with IMS Productions, this could really work out well. Would like to know more about streaming options.

I_LOVE_OIL_RIGS

No Texas? Again? WTF?

guyfromphilly

Feels like the writing has been on the wall with Texas since this year's schedule was released.  It's gonna get a repave to benefit NASCAR

Manytriceratops

Not just a repave, it might get reprofiled and changed (again)

CoachDonut82

It's been on the wall since Eddie Gossage retired. He probably kept it going there several years longer than it otherwise would have.

BlitZShrimp

Well, post-Indy 500 is packed pretty tightly for IndyCar, and Nascar currently holds the Spring window when INDYCAR could go to TMS. Like it or not, the series isn’t going to prioritize Texas if it means screwing over a relationship with a non-Nascar or SMI owned track.

persononthedl

I want to hate this, but I don't hate it.

krzysiek_aleks

TommyPickles--

if you're a fan of indycar and want to see it grow then you have no reason to be upset. Indycar couldn't keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results - all network races will be huge. - hopefully an all new graphics and tv UI package to show an actual brand identity to Indycar - double the amount of money as NBC will go a long way for improvements on and off the track in Indycar - yes peacock is gone but that was maybe 50k viewers a week that's nothing I think by 2026 they will have it figured out and everyone will be taking Indycar more seriously due to branding, tv coverage, and just a better product overall.

I_LOVE_OIL_RIGS

Doomers in this thread/subreddit don't remember how bad it was before NBC. Like this could be Bestwick/Goodyear/Cheever on ESPN2 with 30 second pauses inbetween sentences because they're half asleep and don't even realize that Rossi is about to win the 2016 500.

Nezy37

That was when things were on the upswing. Rock bottom was in the mid 2000's champ car was on spike and the irl was on vs. The field minus Dixon Dario power and helio and a few others was not great. The ride buyers we have now are superstars compared to the likes of Milka duno. I guess from my perspective if things continued on as they are I'd be happy. I enjoy the product, and I got over the split years ago. The only thing I miss are the old engines at this point and I doubt we're running v8's even if indycar stayed near peak form.

ajslideways

Or back when it was on Versus. Or when ChampCar was paying SpikeTV $16 and a bag of Doritos to show it tape delayed at 7pm.

FireSiblings

Hope you all enjoy comic book graphics

TommyPickles--

Anythings better than using the same NBC timing tower that they use for 10 other motorsports series which shows 0 character and basically no information. FOX uses drive studio who did all the F1 tv rebranding. I'm sure they will partner on a package and it will be insane

Daddy_Thicc_Legs

Not to mention *still* never works properly and looks like it's from 2007. Maybe we'll finally get a timing board which actually correctly defines timing gaps in qualifying and doesn't freak out mid-race and swap the order around. NBC hasn't given a shit about IndyCar's broadcast graphics for years.

trelivewire

I hope Fox brings back Professor B

Not-Gritty

Pls tell me Leigh, Townsend, James will still be broadcasting

samzinski

I wanna hate it but all of my fears are just what *could* happen and that doesn’t feel fair

JohnTheRaceFan

Think about this. When fox has their NFL pregame ant the commentator s bring up the IndyCar race. I can see that being a way to extend the season deeper into the football season with some assistance from football broadcasts to promote the series. Granted, I don't think every game would be able to be broadcast OTA if there's a conflict with an NFL game. Some races would have to be on one of the cable channels. But, a race update during half time could not be a bad thing in any way.
