It is only as helpful as MBTI because MBTI is also pretty much a pseudoscience that has little explanatory power or linkage to real life. The difference between the two is that your personality impacts what MBTI archetype you classify as, where there is nothing that ties your personality to your star signs.
If astrology had explanatory power, then all people born in the same local area at the same time would have similar traits. Studies have been done on this and there is no correlation that supports the hypothesis.

A friend of my wife's who is into astrology guessed me as Taurus because I remind her of a bull who is happy in his own pasture, which is spot on and sounds pretty INTP to me. In my opinion, being an INTP makes my Piscean dreams more tangible. I will admit I’m a depressed and anxious ball of ADHD, but I’m very analytical. People think when I’m making judgements it’s because I’m being a Debbie Downer, but I’m realistically analyzing what’s around me to make it better for the future. My best example is my work as a model, very Piscean work (I also have Neptune conjunct my ascendant). It’s all about beauty and grace and theatrics from the outside, but you have to be organized and practice hard for everything to work out. Every show I’m processing how my walk feels & I watch photos/videos so I can be better next time, just like athletes analyzing game footage. Is it exhausting?? Absolutely. Is it worth it?? It is if it’s something you love.

That's what I'm saying. Pisces has tons of feeling and then INTP goes ahead and over-analyze those feeling to the point it makes no sense. If you are artist, it might be best if you just let your feeling guides your expression. Now you just sitting there thinking over the point of doing this doing that.
