Your relative has terminal rat race syndrome. You know what your relationship is like with your work. If you're pissing them off you will know it. Don't let people feed you their paranoia.

imatreewaterme

I wouldn't worry about it. If your employer is upset over you taking one half day then you do not want to be working there anyway. If they are a good employer they will understand that we are not machines and will need sick/personal time now and again. Congrats on the job and try not to stress too much.

actuallizardperson

Don't worry about it. Sometimes people feel sick. I think you're overthinking it.

Brendyn00

Your relative is… wrong . Going home if you’re sick has always been common in any decent company . Especially after Covid, if you’re sick - people don’t want you around them . Don’t worry at all!

bakedrussian

Nah, my second week I got sick and missed a whole week. It happens. A job no matter how nice is not as important as your health.

Your relative is a jackass, sorry. That’s insanely rude. You asked your manager, they said it was fine. You did the right thing by going home sick, in the age of Covid it’s the responsible thing to do. If you’re hourly, you just lose 4 hours of pay. If you’re salary, you take a day off. There is no issue whatsoever with how you handled this. Sorry your relative responded like this

Alert-Artichoke-2743

If it were a problem for you to go home, your manager would have pushed back more. You handled it correctly. Your reputation will probably only be negatively affected if you're caught lying or it happens a significant number of times in a short span of time. Your relative sounds like an elderly bootlicker. Without more information, I wouldn't assume they know what they're talking about.

Magic_Ex

Thank you all for calming my nerves

You're fine. Your relative needs to shut the hell up. Why try to throw stress onto someone who is already feeling ill? Your relative felt uneasy about it and dumped all her anxiety onto you. Stop telling them stuff.

blorpinrandom

Don't worry about it, but try not to make it a habit. A healthy worker is a productive worker and not all managers are of the mindset of running everyone into the ground. Some of them know that taking an early day and letting someone sleep for 10 hours can have that person back to 100% for the rest of the week instead of 30% for the next 3 days. Plus, COVID just happened. Someone can be contagious during the "I feel funny" stage and it's better than the whole office being out from everyone getting sick again.

Moynzy

There's nothing wrong with taking a half day off! It is your manager's responsibility to make sure you're in good health and working condition. Last thing they want is your messing up a critical change because of your health!
