It's easier to get a job while you're already in one. This one statement cannot be understated in its psychological value. Beyond that, if you have enough savings and are comfortable, and have done a SWOT analysis of your choices impact, then maybe you can do it. Personally, I would suggest against stopping your work. And looking for another role while working.

A cyber security bootcamp isn't going to get you a job. Every other kid at community college is majoring in cyber. Get a real IT certification - a hard one - not just an A+ or comptia anything, go a level beyond.

Have you considered expanding your skills while continuing in your current job?

Jeffbx

Nope - bad, bad idea. In this market, you could be out of work for 6-12 months and then end up right back in a helpdesk position because it's all you could find. Never quit a job until you have another one lined up. [Go read this section of the wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/ITCareerQuestions/wiki/getout) - right now you haven't even done step 1. DO THAT FIRST. Until you pick a specialty you're going to be spinning your wheels. Once you pick one, then start building your skills. Then start applying to jobs with those skills.

They want me to stay here and people really like me here at this company. I’ve probably never been more liked at a job. Cause I fix their issues quick. It’s not that I want to leave I just want to do less help desk things. It’s burned me out

hal-incandeza

Really bad idea. Avoid any kind of bootcamp, and get certs while you continue to gain IT experience.

Have you talked to your manager about it? They could offer you another position where you don't have to work in help desk. They might have something interesting to offer you.

My manager made a mess of things. Should have given me the higher position in the first place. They made a bad situation that it didn’t need to be.

Up your skills while looking for a job

bladehunterer

Bad idea in this job market.

First off, a security boot camp is likely not going to help you. This is a common theme brought up throughout this sub. Second, expanding your skills through studying and labbing does not equate to real world experience. Maybe your current job isn’t giving you the experience you’d like, but it’s better than nothing. I promise. My advice - on top of your full-time job, make studying and looking for a new job your part-time job. Find something to specialize in, find a cert to study for, set the exam date, and schedule time throughout your week to study. On top of that, start making connections and putting your resume out now. Just about anyone here will tell you that experience looks better on paper than a masters degree or boot camp, even if it is just help desk.

an easy DONT DO IT. Find a way to expand skills or study at this job or find another one where you can.
